Help with Oracle 10g and ODBC

Hello,
I dont use ODBC much. Been awhile since I have had to use it.
I have Oracle 10.2.0.3 installed on a win2k workstation and installed 10203 patch, which consisted of copying over 3 dll's and some notes. Oddly enough, the notes wanted to go to an ODBC folder, which did not exist.
I go to admin tools/odbc and no new oracle odbc option under system dns.
Whats the trick here? What do I need to do to an existing 10.2.0.3 install to get the new odbc options available in the odbc data source admin?
I think I am missing a simple step. Unfortunately there is nothing I can find in searching here.

I am assuming that when you say "I have Oracle 10.2.0.3 installed on a win2k workstation", you are referring to having the 10.2.0.3 Oracle client on your machine, right? Did you install the Oracle ODBC driver when you first installed the 10.2 Oracle client (under the Oracle Windows Interfaces option when doing the install)?
When you go to Control Panel | Administrative Tools | Data Sources (ODBC) | Drivers, you should see an entry for the Oracle ODBC driver. You can use that driver to create new DSN's that would appear under the System DSN tab, but installing the driver won't create any new DSN's.

  • CCX7.0 Database Integration with Oracle 10g through ODBC

    Good Day…
We are up to integrate CCX7.0 with Oracle 10g, CCX7.0 documents show the way to integrate the CCX7.0 with SQL server, but mention nothing about Oracle 10g, anyway...
I tried to check the ODBC options, there were many options, I tried to select any Oracle related choice, just to find out Oracle should supply the driver for it. In the forums, people say it’s an Oracle Client, but what will this client do? Am I going to connect though it to the oracle database server or is it going to query the database to my CCX server? What am I going to use in this case, user DSN or system DSN?
If there any tips or recommendations I will be grateful, as it is my first database integration.
    Thanks

    Hi Aaron
Thanks Aaron for the information, and yes you are right, I am not a database person.
I have here some questions, sorry if some of them sounds silly
    1)       Is there a certain Oracle Client version? or and Oracle Client will work for me?
    2)       Do you recommend system DSN on user DSN?
    3)       “…. available to any device on the system” as you said in your reply, what do you mean by "device" and "system"? Sorry, but this will help to clear the picture to me
    4)       What will this Oracle Client exactly do? Is it going to build an SQL table on my CCX server that query the information from the Oracle Server?
    5)       My customer has already implemented database integration with IPCC3.5, how can I check the current configuration of the Oracle Client, and what things else should I check before proceeding with the integration?
The reason I want to understand this because there is a lot of database integration is requested from us, the CCX scripts can be used to query data from SQL tables, I read a lot about this –waiting for the implementation phase- the lucky me, the first integration I faces is with Oracle.
Anyway, who said learning is easy.
Thanks Aaron for your time, waiting your answers.

  • Oracle 11g compatibility with oracle 10g and 9i?

    Hi All
I have some queries on 11g compatibility.
Is oracle 11g client compatible with oracle 10g client which is already installed on desktop?
If yes any changes to be done and where?
Is oracle 11g compatible with oracle 10g/9i on the same server where 10g/9i are installed?
    Regards

    Thanks Justin Thats right ...
    Problem elaboration is as follows
We currently have an application which requires oracle 10g(10.2.0.3) client to connect to database from user desktops. As
part of new application development the oracle 11g clients need to be installed on all the user deskotps.
The complete application software along with oracle client 11g has to be roled out on these desktop as part of
implementaion of new application besides the existing application(The application software is packaged along with oracle
    10g client).
We would like to understand if there is any software provided by oracle using which we can switch between different oracle
versions while accessing the respective applications simultaneously. Also are there any known bugs/issues in running
oracle 10g client and oracle 11g client together on the same user desktops with different oracle homes?

  • Help with Oracle 10G on Solaris 9

This is a question that belongs to Oracle forum since I am only a Unix Administrator but work closely with some DBA's. I am installing Oracle Companion CD 10G on Solaris 9. The Oracle 10G software, I was able to install successfully in the past. The DBA's asked me to also install the companion CD for some added features.
Currently, the system is running Oracle 9i on Solaris 9. I installed Oracle 10G on this test environment. I have ensured to change the .profile entries in Oracle 9i and use the Oracle 10G profile so they dont overwrite one another. I have also made sure not to overwrite any files such as "oraenv" etc during the install. The install of Oracle 10G was successful. The dba's that I am trying to help out asked me if I could also install Oracle 10G companion CD 64 bit version.
I tried to install it by placing the path to Oracle 10G
But when the prerequisites started, I got the following:
"Oracle OHS Standalone can not be installed into an existing Oracle RDBMS 9.2.0.1.0 or higher Oracle home."
Now I know that at that time, I had all the Oracle instances down on 9i so it wont interfere with 10G but why is it still seeing 9.2.??? What can I do to bypass this message so I can install the Companion CD? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

  • ODAC with Oracle 10g and Visual Studio 2008

    Hello-
Is the an ODAC version supporting Oracle 10g with tools for Visual Studio 2008? I've installed the ODAC 11.2 version for VS 2008, however the Oracle data source connection does not display for the Data Entity Model, only the usual SQL Server connections.
    Thank you in advance!

    Hello again-
First off, thank you for prompt reply. After poring over some of the postings, I'm gaining an understanding of when ODAC and the Entity Designer marriage came together and your answer solidified it.
My situation is I've developed an ODATA service with VS2010, Oracle 11g and ODTwithODAC112030 and everything works fine. I then deploy the service to the company's Windows 2003 server using Oracle 10g. I've also went ahead an installed the ODTwithODAC112030 on the server and copied the tnsnames.ora file into the oracle client's directory associated with the ODAC installation. When I query the Oracle database's metadata in IE, e.g. http://localhost:8050/DataMgmt/$metadata, a listing is displayed as expected; however, when I query a particlar database table listed in the metadata, an error is returned that the request could not be processed. Any ideas?
    Thank you.

  • Help with Oracle 10g--SYSDBA password

    Hi,
I installed oracle 10g on my machine ( WIN XP Pro, 512 RAM ) . Installation was Ok and then I created a database which was created successfully.
But now I am trying to SQL PLUS to logon to database to run some scripts . I ma trying to login as SYS but it says I can only login in as SYSDBA or SYSOPR .
Problem is that while creating database it never asked for SYSDBA or SYSOPR passwords and I am just thinking may be there is a default password for these?
Please let me know how can I connect to database to run some scripts?
    Any help will be appreciated.

Hi Khushhal Mahajan, Oracle Corporation has upgraded the database creation procedure from version 9i, that if database is created that prompts for a password. At that time we cannot use the default password & more over SYSDBA & SYSOPR are not user logins they are psudeo roles. So you must remember the admin password which will be prompted at the end of the installation. Try the following
    sqlplus /nolog
    SQL> connect / as sysdba
Before this set the environment variable to your database instance.
If you are connected alter the sys and system user and change the password.

  • Help with Oracle 10g Client Connectivity from Linux to IBM SAN storage

    Hello Oracle Experts,
This is my first post. My client is having oracle 10g database up and running in IBM SAN storage.
We have some NMS tools running in Red Hat Linux version 5. So, these tools require connectivity to Oracle database which is residing in SAN storage connected with the Fibre cables.
How do I establish the connectivity from Linux to SAN storage. If would be glad if you can explain me the steps and also if there is any pre-installation/post-installation, patches and procedures involved.
If it is IP based network we normally give the IP address of the host running the database server. I have no idea about SAN storage connected with Fibre cable.
Please guide me to establish the connectivity from linux 5 to SAN.
    Thanks.

    RaviShankar.

    Hi Rajesh,
Actually I will not be touching the Oracle instance SAN box directly. I will only access the database from another machine. I my case it is Linux box.
So, my question is how do you make the Oracle Client in Linux box to connect to Oracle instance running in another non ip based machine SAN storage.Install Oracle client on this Linux machine ..
Make sure you have network connectivity from linux machine to database server. You need to connect to server where db instance is running and you need not to bother about SAN storage.
make tns entry into client $ORACLE_HOME/network/admin/tnsnames.ora file.
Use sqlplus to connect to database using client.

  • Multiple Charsets with Oracle 9i and ODBC

I am using the latest Oracle ODBC driver to connect my C++ COM application running under IIS 5.0 to a multilingual Oracle 9i database running on a Win2K server.
Currently, all characters are displayed correctly except for a few special accented characters in the Czech alphabet. The erratic Czech characters are displayed as upside down question marks.
These characters display correctly when I connect to Oracle with JDBC, but not with ODBC. These characters also display correctly when I query them out of a MSSQL 2000 database using ODBC or OLEDB. NOTE: These characters are also displayed as upside down question marks when I query Oracle from SQL Plus directly on the server.
I have read the FAQ's on multilingual applications and Oracle/ODBC, but I don't see what I am missing. Force W_CHAR Support is set to true in my ODBC configuration settings.
I've spent many hours trying to work out a solution to this problem with no luck. My customer would like to fix this problem ASAP, and would also like to be certain that we can go ahead with data using other character sets - Han, Cyrillic, Greek, etc.
Another question - is it possible to set up an Oracle 9i database to not support Unicode / UTF8, and if our databased is configured in such a manner, should we expect problems with the data coming out of it when connecting via ODBC?

Also, I realize now that I got some terminology mixed up in my first post. Obviously "Unicode" encompasses both UTF8 and UTF16 encoding, but I understand that one usually means UTF16 when one says Unicode.
My client is so far unwilling to set this database up to use UTF16 encoding, so I am trying to find another solution that allows me to display special characters from an Oracle database using UTF8 encoding. As I mentioned before, JDBC corrects the erratic data, and I have come across information about a rather expensive third party ODBC driver that supposedly corrects the data, as well. I would like to know if it's possible for me to correct the data without converting the DB to use UTF16.

  • Help with oracle 10g install on solaris x86

hi, i downloaded solaris 10 from oracle site (sol-10-u8-ga-x86-dvd.iso) and i have installed it on vmware. i was going through the installation guide for oracle 10 for solaris x86 and while on the pre-installation steps, i issued this command
    # /bin/isainfo -kv
    and it gave me
    # 64-bit amd64 kernel modules
    instead of
    # 32-bit i386 kernel modules
    as the guide expected.
please what can i do, cos the guide says if i dont see the later, the installation cannot complete.
    thnx

First check you Operating System Bit information whether it is 64 or 32 bit , for this first check any of the command path
    Example ls command
    $ which ls
    /usr/sbin/ls
    $ file /usr/sbin/ls
It will show you whether your OS is 64 bit or 32 bit and accordingly download the software from below link ,if it is showing 64 bit os then you have to download 64 bit database software .

  • External table in Oracle 10g and Windows server 2003 problem

I'm having a problem accessing an external table in an Oracle 10g and Windows 2003 server environment. The disk is remote (mapped) to the server. It's the usual access errors, kup-04001 or kup-04063.
I have the [seemingly] exact same setup in an Oracle 9i and Windows 2000 server environment which works perfectly. Services run as local SYSTEM and SYSTEM has full permissions on the disk. Directories exist and so do the permissions to the directories.

This obviously effects mappings, deployments, etc.
Does anyone know if something changed in either the db or the os?
    Thank you,

    Thank you for your reply.
Your proposal is the standard solution. As a matter of fact, that's how it is on my "old" system. Server "A" Oracle services are started by SYSTEM. Server "B" Oracle services are started by SYSTEM and is where the flat files reside. SYSTEM has full permissions on a disk local to Server "B". Database directoriies defined on Server "A" point to Server "B" remote disk. External Tables on Server "A" are defined with directories that point to Server "B" remote (mapped) disk. I have no problems with this configuration.
I'm having a problem acheiving the same configuration with Oracle 10g and Windows 2003. I guess I'm baffled over the fact it isn't working the same way as my "old" environment. Why shouldn't it? Oracle (and you) want me to start services as a specific user. It shouldn't have to be that way unless something changed in the way the database makes calls to the os or if Microsoft slipped something in with one of it's numerous security patches.

after clicking it download jinitiator from server and after installing jinitiator my forms are loaded and start functioning...
what i feel is as i said this machine where oc4j and database is running is one of the client machine so some other clients do not have acess to this machine, so this might be the reason why those clints are not able to run the said forms on the internet explorer.... can it be so... kindly tell..
