i am going to have them printed at a professional print place who do lots of Architecture plans, so  I am assuming they have the ability and machines to
print it the way i would need it printed, if I need to ask them about this, what questions should i ask?
ah good! then the answer is, ask the printer!   (always ask the printer when using a pro service, that's part of what you're paying them for!) they should be able to tell you precisely how to set up your file for best output on their machines.

  • Need help with Page Layout and Background Scaling

    hello, everyone.
    I am in the process of designing a new website for myself,
    and while I was researching nicely designed pages to use as
    inspiration, I stumbled upon this site:
    http://www.jeffsarmiento.com/
    obviously, the design is very impressive, but it also
    incorporates a lot of web mechanics that I have been trying to
    figure out, so I will use this page as an example.
    one thing I need help with is backgrounds. as you can see in
    the posted website, the creator used a seamlessly tiled paper
    texture to display the bulk of his content on. also make not of the
    pattern that is located to the left of the paper texture. how do I
    create seamless backgrounds like this that will scale to fit any
    amount of content or any resolution? I can't imagine that the guy
    that made that site created a new size background every time he
    made an update, so there has to be an easier way.
    the second thing that I am having trouble with is general
    site layout. I have read that most sites used series of invisible
    tables to organize there content, but when I open the source of
    this page in dreamweaver, he was using something different. div
    tags? should I be using these? who do I use them? are there any
    general layout tips that someone could pass on to me? perhaps a
    link to a good tutorial?
    please help me. i am very confused.
    thanks so much.

    IMO not a good site to emulate. To wit:
    Top background image:
    http://www.jeffsarmiento.com/images/bg-top.jpg;
    745px
    x 350px 137K
    Main background image:
    http://www.jeffsarmiento.com/images/bg-tile.jpg;
    745px x 950px 130K
    Total page size: 454K (Check here:
    www.websiteoptimization.com)
    Website usability experts routinely recommend a maximum page
    size of ~80K
    Check out the We We Scale @ www.FutureNowInc.com/wewe/ where
    they suggest,
    "You speak about yourself approximately 0,003 times as often
    as you speak
    about your customers. Might that have an impact on your
    effectiveness?"
    That is 100% consistent with the #1 Web Design mistake:
    "Believing people
    care about you and your web site." or to phrase more
    expansively, "Our site
    tries to tell you how wonderful we are as a company, but not
    how we're going
    to solve your problems."
    www.sitepoint.com has some excellent books on making a
    website actually
    attractive and usable at the same time.

  • Writers - please help with page layout and headers/footers in Pages

    Hello
    Apologies if this is a stupid question, but I have fiddled around with my page layout and can't figure this out for myself!
    When I type a manuscript, I like to have a header and footer giving the book title, chapter, my name, etc. I'm finding that the header and footer is set to a wider range than I have set the main body of the page. Would you leave it that way, so that it is easily differentiated from the actual text, or would you align the left and right margins on the header and footer to match the body of the text? And if so, how do you do this please?
    Secondly, I can't figure out how to increase the top and bottom gap so that there is a good space between the header and the first line of text.
    Any advice would be gratefully received!
    Thank you!

    I don't understand what you did.
    When we use the normal tools:
    Inspector > Document > Margins, the widths of header, body and footer are the same.
    Secondly, I can't figure out how to increase the top and bottom gap so that there is a good space between the header and the first line of text.
    With the already named tools, we may adjust top & bottom margins with no change on the header & footer.
    As I often wrote, looking in the PDF User Guide which is delivered with every copy of iWork is an efficient way to spare time.

  • Need help with page sizes for EBay

    Sorry as this is a beginners question but how do i set a layout so i can produce a product page that fits 4:3 and 16:9 at the same time when viewing on EBay with diffarent moniters. My friend has managed it but he does not know how he did it. Is there any material i could read to help me start with a shallower learning curve using Dreamweaver CS3. Many thanks

    EBay is a whole different animal with some very strange code & other challenges.  I recommend using their pre-built TEMPLATES. Download TurboLister2 software for setting up auctions.  Templates are in the left hand column.

  • How to set the page size and the margins programatically

    Hello,
      I am working with crystal report XI Release2 and asp.net.
    One of my report is having 4 graphs in a single report.In order to display all the graphs in one page i have set  the paper size as A3.(Via Crysta report ->File->Page set up)
    But the page size A3 is not provided by all printers.So problem comes when the application is diployed on a machine which does not support A3 Printer.All the graphs will not be shown on a single page.
    Also Each and Every time ,when the application is diployed on a machine,user has to open the crystal report and adjust the page size accordingly to get all the reports on a single page.
    This is a kind of usability issue also.
    Is it possible to set the page size and the margins programatically say for eg 11 X 17.so that with out doing anything all the 4 graphs will get displayed on a single page ?
    Please let me know if you require more information regarding this issue.
    Thanks in advance.
    smitha.

    Hi Ludek,
    i could solve the issue by using the follwing code.
    report = new ReportDocument();
    PageMargins customPageMargin = report.PrintOptions.PageMargins;
    report.PrintOptions.PaperOrientation = PaperOrientation.Portrait;
    report.PrintOptions.PaperSize = PaperSize.Paper10x14;
    customPageMargin.rightMargin = 1;
    customPageMargin.topMargin = 0;
    customPageMargin.bottomMargin = 0;
    report.PrintOptions.ApplyPageMargins(customPageMargin);
    Thanks for you help.
    Regards,
    smitha.

  • Help with page

    I have created a site for a language schools tours, which a
    member of staff here will update.
    The site contains boxes of information in single tables.
    here it is
    http://tours.elanguest.com
    (under construction)
    I'm trying to make it easy to arrange the site for the guy
    inputing the data.At the moment the boxes containing the tour
    pictures and text
    are stuck in a table row.
    I would like to find a way to be able to automatically create
    these box's perhaps with a repeating region, with fixed size.
    and also basically make it very easy to move the boxes
    around,
    like a windows desktop where the icons are locked to a grid
    and you arange by name so on.
    Thankyou for youre time.

    Search DW's F1 Help for a far better explanation than can be
    given here.
    Looking at your page, though, there are other problems -
    <style type="text/css">
    a {display: block}
    a:link, a:visited {text-decoration: none;}
    a:hover {text-decoration: none; color: yellow}
    a {text-decoration: none;}
    .style92 {font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif}
    -->
    <!--
    .style87 {color: #FFFFFF}
    .style92 {color: #0073B2}
    body {
    background-color: #FFFFFF;
    background-image: url();
    .style115 {font-size: 18px}
    .style132 {
    font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;
    font-size: 14px;
    font-weight: bold;
    color: #003399;
    .style151 {color: #FFFF00}
    .style161 {color: #FFFFFF; font-family: Arial, Helvetica,
    sans-serif;
    font-weight: bold; font-size: 16px; }
    .style163 {color: #003399; font-family: Arial, Helvetica,
    sans-serif;
    font-weight: bold; }
    .style168 {
    color: #FFFFFF;
    font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;
    font-weight: bold;
    font-size: 14px;
    .style169 {font-size: 14px}
    .style170 {color: #003399}
    -->
    </style>
    The HTML comments in your stylesheet are going to be a
    problem for you.
    Also, your page is not using a template and you would need to
    have a
    template/child structure to use Template repeating tables.
    Finally, what is it you want to repeat? A new row of
    features? Or add more
    features to a single row?

  • Image size and dpi for iDVD menu custom background?

    I created a custom background for my iDVD menu. When showing
    on my TV, part of the words and image is cut off on each side, even after adjusting my tv picture between wide screen and standard screen.
    What is the correct size and dpi to make a photograph to use as a background
    image in the menus? This may have been answered before, so I apologize for posting the same question, if so.

    iDVD will try to downsize the image to work, but your TV often will overscan with the result being edges clipped off. The amount of clipping can vary, so the "TV Safe" settings will typically be the center 80-90% of the image. So, if you add a border that makes the image 10-15% larger, that should display the whole image. For example, if you had a 150 dpi image that was 640x480, you could put a 10% border on it so the final image was 704x528.

  • Air 15 known issues - wrong screen size and dpi

    Will the next update of Air 15 solve the issues below..
    the dpi problem with iPhone 6 plus is a show stopper,  i cant get away with delivering a reduced dpi
    ... under pressure to update 20+ applications  ...
    Known Issues AIR  15.0.0.183
    [ iPhone 6 Plus] [Launch image] A blank screen observed in apps when Default-568h@2x is packaged.
    [ iPhone 6 Plus] Wrong screen size and dpi is returned through the runtime APIs .
    [ iPad 3 and later] iPhone Launch image(Default@2x. png ) appears on iPad if iPhone launch images are packaged along with iPad launch images
    Well done to the Air team for the good work done so far, not easy keeping up with Apple on IOS8  at the moment...

    I am having simliar issue where I can get the iphone 6 launch image to work but not the iphone 6+ when using [email protected], 2208x1242.  Also the stage.fullScreenWidth/Height give 1472x828, which is 2/3 the expected dimensions or 736x414 at scale factor 2, not 3.  I hope adobe fixes this soon or we won't be able to launch new games with Apple as it is a requirement to have your apps Iphone 6/6+ optimized.  If this isn't fixed soon were pretty much forced to abandon adobe and move onto another software solution that will allow us to build for Apple.

  • HTML-DB 1.6 (Apex) Page size and Page Model and monitor size

    Hi everyone,
    We developed our application based on 17 inches monitor. But, today one user told us that she has a 15 inches monitor. Thus, she don't see full page, she has to use the scroll.
    Is it in our model that you can reduce the page size for example 80% size in the page model to fit with 15 inches monitor ?
    Or to define a variable in the page model and have two different buttons one for 15 inches monitor (80% page size) and an other related to 17 inches monitor and more (100% page size) this pourcent should be the value of a variable in the page model ?
    Thanks. Bye.

    Hi Timiche,
    The easiest thing to do would be to make sure that the width of items on the page (especially tables) are set to a percentage and not a fixed px value. This way, the items will spread out to fill the available screen width.
    You should also bear in mind that users can change the resolution of the screens - 640x400, 800x600, 1024x768 etc. It would become a nightmare to try and cater for all possible resolutions and screen sizes by dynamically changing the fixed width dimensions of all objects on a page! I would check what items need to be of fixed width and change all the rest to percentages.
    We tend to inform our users that pages have been designed for a particular resolution - currently 1024x768.
    Regards
    Andy

  • Can you help me with Page Layout and/or Design ideas for a software manual?

    Greetings,
    I am a new InDesign user, and am converting a software manual that I created in MS Word into InDesign. It will be converted to a pdf to view online. I have the basics (3 master pages, page numbers, running headers, 2column pages with text boxes on the left and screenshots on the right), but I want to make it look prettier. Could you please give me some ideas on page layout and/or design to make it look better or more creative?
    A few things that I am considering: borders around screenshots, a watermark, a logo next to the page numbers, different size/type of fonts, etc.
    I am open to any suggestions to make this look better. However, please understand that I am new to InDesign. With that being said, please tell me a few steps when you mention your tips. Thank you!

    Take a look at a few websites on Cannons of Page Construction.
    I think the best idea for you is to look at a few software manuals and take tips from how they accomplished the layouts.
    I'm not saying to copy them - but rather see what works and doesn't work, what worked for them might not necessarily work for you - research some layouts.
    Fonts/type/sizes etc. are pretty much ambigious without context - is this a software manual for kids (soft cuddly big fonts easy to read), technical (small, tight spacing etc), Adult friendly (smooth, crisp clear, well spaced), elderly (large elegant fonts).
    It all really depends on your demographic audience.
    Being new to InDesign I suggest you take up Sandy Cohens Quickstart Visual Guide.
    I think you should look at Michael Murphys Book on Styles
    And you should definitely get your printer (the guys bulk printing) the booklet for you on board from the start to work out optimal sizes to suit their printing presses and workflow etc. And to ensure that you are setup correctly in page sizes, margins, safe type areas, colour profiles and a few other things that your printers prepress can help you with.
