Help with PC associating to a far away access point

We have an issue in a training room where 4 Dell all in one PC's sometimes have wireless issues.  We relocated the AP to directly above the 4 PC's instead of the hallway outside of the training room because off that hallway there is also a lunch room with two microwaves, so we thought that was interfering.
Anyway sometimes one or two of the PC's in this training room fall off the wireless or they must be associating with the AP on the 3rd floor causing the latency to go in upwards of 1900ms in ping times to the machine.  Rebooting the PC will usually bring it back to the AP directly above it, resulting in ping times of 1-3 ms.
I drew up a very summarized diagram and what I am thinking is happening is that the wireless signal is bouncing around an emergency stairwell located in the back of the building that has direct access to the 3rd floor, and also that AP on the 3rd floor is at that end of the building near that stairwell.  Employees don't use this stairwell, there's two others and also an elevator in the building.
We have a 5508 WLC running on 7.4.121.0 and 6 AP's in this building.  Just curious if there is anything I should be checking on the WLC, or do you think this is a PC network card problem where I should be checking drivers, etc...
We could throw a small switch in there and hard wire them, but we got all in ones with wireless because the desks are on castors and being that it is a training room, sometimes they like to move things around in there.

Ok, I checked for both 802.11a/n and 802.11b/g/n,
TPCv1 checked.

Interference Profile Updated to Pass for Base Radio MAC: 50:1c:bf:80:5f:d0 and slotNo: 0
And also a bunch of Rouge AP detected or removed from Base Radio MAC.
Hope some of this information helps.  It seems that the training room computers have more difficulty when there are people next door with 4 laptops.  Still that would only be 8 clients on one AP.  That AP has a 1 gig connection to a 3750 switch port.

  • Help with advanced 'Adjust' settings; how far to go, what to do first, etc.

Although my camera is fairly rubbish, I'm trying to make my digital photos look the best they can in iPhoto.
I'm tweaking the Adjust settings; Brightness, Contrast, Saturation, Sharpness, Exposure etc. but at the moment I'm more or less tweaking randomly until I get something I think is better.
More guidance would be appreciated; is there more of a science involved? - What order is it best to do the things in? How do the controls differ from each other?
Also, I'm always wary of going too far with the sliders. How far is too far? I know that it is possible for a photo to look instantly better without objectively being so; for example, always brighter, sharper images with more contrast tend to look better at first, until the novelty wears off of course.
Should I be using the Histogram at the bottom? How does that work? What should I be looking for? What would the ideal histogram look like?
Any tips you can tell me to make my pictures better would be gratefully appreciated.

This is in iPhoto 7, yes? I ask as you've posted in the v5 forum.
This is all "rule of thumb" stuff - general guidelines rather than hard and fast rules.
    1. Work from top to bottom in the Panel: The lower options depend on the upper ones...
Get the Light right (Exposure then contrast), then fix the highlights and shadows (which are dependant on the light...) then your colours and finally the sharpness (and because that can introduce visible 'noise') and the noise reduction.
    2. The Histogram will tend to a bell-shaped curve.
    3. Some very crude definitions:
Exposure is the amount of light in the picture - this can be too little, too much or just right
Contrast is the difference between the different colour and light states, this can be increased or decreased and can help the definition of the photo and the objects in it
Highlights: bits of the pic that might still be over-exposed even though you've fixed the exposure and they can be toned down
Shadows: The bits that are under-exposed...
Saturation: How red is that red? How blue is that blue?
Temperature: How white is that white? Blue white? Yellowy white?
    Tint: Overall warmth and cold

  • I need some help - Can't get response from refurbished AP1232AG access points -

We purchased 4 Cisco-refurb AP1232AG access points, intending to use one as a router and the others as repeaters. We have ran AC power to locations for all of the routers, mounted them in outdoor NEMA boxes, added the lightning arrestors and attached 12db omni antennas. All of that process went well.
I'm trying to access the routers per instructions by cisco, which state that all refurbs are set to 10.0.0.1 and must be accessed using a console cable from computer com port to the unit's console port. We have the cable and have it set up in that manner. We have tried using telnet, serial and web sessions within the Indigo software and it  states the unit is not responding. I've tried using the Cisco IPSU and get the same message that the unit won't respond. I can't ping it from the C drive as well. All of the routers respond similarly so I'm certain that it's my fault and not the APs.
Is there anyone who can take a minute to walk me through what I may or may not be doing correctly to access the APs and get them configured? I lack the requisite background to determine the problem on my own. I feel confident that I can configure them if I can get to them.
    Any would be appreciated.
    thanks

  • Problem with PowerBook (but NOT MacBook) and two access points on network

I recently installed a wall-plugged ethernet adapter system (Netgear XE104 and XE103) and plugged a wireless access point (Netgear WPN802) into one of the adapters (in the part of our house where we lacked a wireless signal) in order to extend the range of our (DSL) wireless network. I configured this new access point--disabled DHCP, assigned an IP address to the access point that does not fall into the wireless router's IP adress range, put the wireless router and access point on different channels (6 and 11), and made sure the router and access point had the same SSID.
I have had no problems using the resulting setup with our new MacBook--everything goes as planned. BUT I am having a terrible time with my PowerBook G4. It has a really strong signal everywhere, but when I open my browser it says that I am not connected to the internet. The problem seems to be that my PowerBook refuses to change channels once it connects to one. I installed iStumbler to see if I could manually control which access point/channel the PowerBook uses, and, while I can track the signal strengths for both access points, I can't get my PowerBook to switch from one access point to the other.
I've tried just about everything I can think of. I suppose I could try giving a different SSID to the access point (and then try to switch with the airport menu in the toolbar), but I would like to avoid this if possible.
I would really appreciate any advice you have. Thank you!

Can you connect if you temporarily turn off WEP or WPA?
This will determine if it is a WEP or WPA issue.
Does your PC support WPA, from both a hardware and a software perspective?
The problem you are having probably lies with the encryption key.

  • PREMIRE EL, 11. NEED HELP WITH DROPPING CLIP. SO FAR 3 1/2 HOURS.  :(

i HAVE A LARGE VIDEO CLIP THAT IS IN VIDEO/AUDIO #2.  I CAN NOT DRAG AND DROP IT INTO VIDEO/AUDIO #1 IN BETWEEN CLIPS. I HAVE TRIED EVERYTHING. PLEASE HELP ME.  BARB

Without seeing your Timeline structure, I offer this thought for now. If you want to post a screenshot of the track situation, that would be helpful.
Why can you not drag and drop the large clip from Video/Audio 2 Video/Audio 1 - messes up the existing Timeline or just will not move or something else?
Select the group of clips that are now in the place where you want the Video/Audio 2 material to be. Then drag the selection as a group out of the way.
Drag in the Video/Audio 2 material to Video/Audio 1. Move the previously moved group back to wherever you want it.
What is the duration of this large Video/Audio 2 clip?
We will be watching for your follow up in the morning.
    Thanks.

Add On...Typically as you hold down the Alt key of the computer main keyboard as you add a clip to an existing Timeline to avoid disturbing it.

  • Lost referenced photos in Aperture -- need help with re-associating them

When I first started using Aperture 3, I elected to have my existing iPhoto pics as referenced, rather than managed files.
I recently replaced my hard drive (for a bigger one to hold all those photos...). Now I find that whenever I click on a referenced photo, I get the error message:
Versions with unavailable master files cannot be exported. The selected master image is either offline or not found. Please reconnect it and try again.
I understand I can go do File>Locate Referenced Files.
Given that they haven't been moved from their original location (I assume within the iPhoto library), is there a way to automatically re-associate all of them? I've got about 10,000 photos like this now and can't possibly track them down one by one.
In the dialog window that pops up, the lower box is where you point to the original files. I can select "iphoto library" but don't see any way to do this easily for a lot of photos. Am I missing something?
    Thanks.

Oh, man -- THANK YOU!  That last bit of info did it for me.
So to summarize for others that may be struggling with this:
[1] Create a smart album to locate all the  referenced photos (I used the keyword "iphoto original" which Aperture applied to all my iphoto pics when I starting using Aperture).
[2]Select all photos in the album (cmd-A)
    [3] File>Locate Referenced Files
[4] In the upper panel highlight one photo.
[5] Use spotlight to locate where that photo is on your hard drive.
[6] In the lower panel navigate to the location of the photo
[7] Click on the "reconnect all button at the bottom.
Aperture then took about 5 minutes reconnecting all my referenced photos.
    Excellent. Thanks!

  • Need help with my iTunes-new computer-can't access my music

We just got a new computer and I transferred all of my songs from the old to the new and now when I try to access them in iTunes I get an error message that "it cannot be used because the original file cannot be located" Do I have to put in the DVD with all of the files on it in order to use any of my song? I thought that I saved them to my hard drive, but who knows....HELP!!! pLEase!!!

You haven't told us enough about what you did.
You need to explain exactly how you did your transfer.
If you don't care about your ratings and play counts and your really did copy your files across, there is a simple way of getting going again.
With iTunes closed drag iTunes Library.itl and iTunes Music Library.itl out of the iTunes folder to the desk top.
Start iTunes and you will have an empty library. Now simply add the folder with your music files in it - normally iTunes Music - to iTunes with File>Add folder to library.
If you didn't copy your files across, try putting the DVD in the drive and opening iTunes - can iTunes find your files now. If so it is a sign you added the files to your library without copying them to your internal HD.

    Hi,
Have you install Oracle XE as an Administrator or member of Administrators group?
Have you ever started the Oracle home page?
Do you have any other Oracle installation?
What kind of OS do you use? I can see Windows 2000.
Those two services OracleServiceXE and OracleXETNSListener are enough to run XE.
You could check by the Task Manager:
    - OracleServiceXE should be about 50K
    - OracleXETNSListener – 6K
Turn those services to Manual. Restart the computer and Start Oracle database.
You can check the LISTENER.ORA. Host should be your host name. Same into TNSNAMES.ORA. If the HOST = YourComputerName there are OK.
Then you should check for any firewall. For instance, Zone Alarm could prevent to access your database.
    I hope that would help.

  • Help with queries in a JSP to MS Access DB

I'm trying to use a JSP to query an MS Access database:
If I create the following query in MS Access it works no problem:
    SELECT * FROM EMPLOYEE_VACATION WHERE Department="Laboratory";
If I try to duplicate the query in my JSP as shown below:
    ResultSet rs = stmt.executeQuery("SELECT * FROM EMPLOYEE_VACATION WHERE Department = \"Laboratory\"");
I get an exception as follows:
javax.servlet.ServletException: [Microsoft][ODBC Microsoft Access Driver] Too few parameters. Expected 1.
What am I doing wrong here?? Thanks in advance for any assistance.

one of these should fix it
    1. change double quotes to single quotes in your query:ResultSet rs = stmt.executeQuery("SELECT * FROM EMPLOYEE_VACATION WHERE Department = 'Laboratory' ");2. ensure the correct spelling of all tables and column names ( I know the message doesn't portray this problem, but this error message appears if you've mispelled a table name or column )

  • Problems with AirPort and WPA access point

Okay, I have done quite a bit of research and I still cannot resolve my problem because of this, I am turning to this user community.
Here is what I know as of right now:
I am running Windows OS X 10.4.4 with AirPort Update 2005-001. My Access Point is a 3COM 8250.
The AP is setup not to broadcast its SSID, to use WPA-TKIP (or in Apple terminology, WPA Personal) and the password is set to use alphanumeric.
When I try to connect my PowerBook with the SSID name, WPA Personal and the correct password, I get the following error:
The password you entered is not correct for the Airport network *******.
To troubleshoot here are the test I have run and their outcomes:
    Test
    - Result
Set the AP to completely open
    - Connected
Set the AP to open, didn't broadcast the SSID
    - Connected
Set the AP to WEP, broadcast the SSID
    - Connected
Set the AP to WEP, didn't broadcast the SSID
    - Connected
Set the AP to WPA & WEP, broadcast the SSID
    - WEP : Connected
    - WPA : Not Connected
Set the AP to WPA & WEP, didn't broadcast SSID
    - WEP:Connected
    - WPA:Not Connected
Set the AP to WPA only
    - Not Connected.
Now, I should mention that when I was running 10.3.3 I could not connect either. The AP is running the newest firmware and I have three Windows XP SP2 laptops / workstations that can connect with no problems.
I have tried to find a compatibility matrix on both 3COM's and Apple's websites to see if it might be a compatibility issue but I have not been able to find one on either site.
Any help that anyone could provide would be greatly appreciate.
    Thanks in advance.

Hello MisssAsh. Welcome to the Apple Discussions!
It's always a good idea to do a complete power recycle when changing network configurations.
Try the following, in order, checking for Internet access after each step, until resolved:
    1. If the modem has a reset switch, use it to reset the modem. Wait at least 5-10 minutes for the modem to initialize.
    2. Remove power from the modem. If it has a backup battery, remove this as well. Wait 5-10 minutes. Replace the battery, and add power back to the modem.
    3. Perform a complete power recycle of your network components as follows:
    Modem/Router Power Recycling - Quick
o Power-off the modem, AirPort Express Base Station (AX), & computer(s); Wait at least 5 minutes.
o Power-on the modem; Wait at least 5 minutes.
o Power-on the AX; Wait at least 5 minutes.
    o Power-on the computer(s)
If this fails to get the modem to "recognize" the Internet router, then try the "Full" version.
    Modem/Router Power ReCycling - Full
o Power-off the modem, AX, & computer(s). (Wait at least 30 minutes. If possible, leave the modem off overnight.)
o Power-on the modem; Wait at least 15 minutes.
o Power-on the AX; Wait at least 5 minutes.
    o Power-on the computer(s)
    4. Contact your ISP to have them perform a "modem reset."

  • Access Points keep associating and disassociating from WLC

I have numerous access points, both 3502 and 3602's that are connected to Cisco 2960s POE switches that will disassociate and then reassociate themselves with the WLC.  The WLC and access points are running 7.4.110.0.  The particaular Cisco 2960s POE switch in this case is running 12.2(55)SE3, RELEASE SOFTWARE (fc1).   This is becoming a widespread issue.

When the AP recovers, what is the physical up time and WLC association time.
Now if your AP(s) regularly reboots then I'd consider you test the cable runs using the on-board TDR feature of your switch.

  • AP Extreme (WiFi Access Point)... LAN... Web Proxy Server help.

    Hello...
I need a little help configuring this Airport Extreme as a Wireless Access point, serving a bunch of iPads via the schools LAN connection for which traffic is routed through a Web Proxy Server. I've been told to set it up as a bridge as the PC LAN and Proxy are providing NAT but can't seem to crack it.
The WiFi side of things is up and running, we can all see and connect to the AP.
I'm told that it was working fine before the school break in the summer, then something was changed and the position of the AP altered.
The Web Proxy Server is normally accesses from the PC's via the following address... IP > 10.12.14.122  //  PORT > 3128
I'm not certain where the Proxy settings need to go in the new 'simple' Airport Utility, can't see a place for Port at all?!?
(I've taken the AP home, tried it on my home network and it works fine, so we know its all OK and its down to config).
Here are some screen images of the settings as they are, that do not work.
(I was trying a few different settings hence the screens like Static/DHCP etc.)
    Any help is greatly appreciated.

    Hi Daniel,
    >>Now when I go on a client site my internet access on the host laptop is via a web proxy on a LAN connection.
"LAN connection" means physical NIC (Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller) ?
" web proxy " means adding a proxy server IP in IE ?
Bounding the NIC (Realtek PCIe ) to external virtual switch then connect all VMs to that external virtual switch ,still can not access ?
