Help with PC CD Burning
When I attempt to put a CD from my PC (Windows XP) in my Mac, the Mac doesn't seem to be able to read it.
What formatting options do I need to use with my PC to ensure a CD is Mac OS X 10.4.7 readable? I saw a reply to another question that the Mac would read "standard" CDs - what's "standard"?
I guess it would be nice to know the reverse also if there are any tricks to burning a CD on the Mac and having it XP-friendly. I haven't tried to burn a CD on my new Mac yet - haven't figured out how yet and I'm sure it's simple.

The standard you're reading about is ISO 9660, which is what your Mac will use by default when you burn a CD. Windows XP also uses this when using it to burn a CD, which means your disks should be cross-platform.
On your Mac or Windows XP system (with built-in burner) or your Mac, simply insert the blank CD. You should be prompted with a list of choice for what you can do (audio CD, data CD, do nothing, etc.). Drag your files to the blank CD's window and then "eject". You'll be prompted to burn and your CD should be ISO 9660 compliant.

Help with Blu Ray burning requested
I've been using PRE for many years now very succesfully with no significant problems until I entered the world of HD and Blu Ray. My system specs are at the bottom of this post. I've been recording HD for some years now on my Sony HDV camcorder and rewriting the final production back onto HDV tapes. I recently decided to move up and get myself a blu ray writer now that burners and media have become affordable (well relatively) . . . and the beginning of all my problems.
Normally I create 10 minute final productions from about an hour of footage; however, after a 3-week trip to China, I've created a 50 minute production from which I want to create a Blu Ray disk. The production contains quite a lot of transitions, titles and still images (taken with 10 Megapixel camera).
I can render the project OK although it does take quite a few hours. However, my system crashes (Blue Screen) at about 85% of the way through the Blu Ray encoding process. I've split the project into 2 seperate projects - one of 20 minutes and one of 30 minutes. The 20 minute one burns to Bly Ray ok but the 30 minute project still crashes (Blue Screen again) towards the end. One obvious solution would be to split the project down in to 3 seperate projects and burn to 3 Blu Ray disks but this kind of ruins the point of having a Blu Ray writer as I could have created 3 AVCHD DVD disks instead.
The problem seems to be lack of memory. The encoding process seems to work in the 1 - 2 GB space until very near the end when the memory requirement seems to soar up to 4 GB limit. My suspicion is that Premiere is trying to use all the system memory and tramples over the system needs hence causing the whole system to Blue Screen.
I've scoured through the various forums and have found that lots of other users have had similar problems but not found any solutions. Has anyone managed to create a decent sized Blu Ray disk from Premiere Elements - and, does anyone know the minimum configuration for doing this.
System:

Sony Viao VPCCW1S1E - Intel Core 2 Duo P7450 running Windows 7, 4 GB memory with everything running on the system c: drive.with 150 GB free.

First a question: what is the size of your still images in pixel x pixel dimensions?
Now, a BSOD is almost always a hardware issue. The most common causes are:
1.) Heat build up, especially with regard to the CPU
2.) RAM - usually a block going bad
3.) Powersupply either under powered for the load, going bad or perhaps a rail not being up to the necessary voltage.
3.) MoBo - often a soldered connection (could be almost anywhere in the bus) heating up and separating.
First thing that I would do would be to turn OFF Reboot on Error, in hopes that there will be something useful on the BSOD. Next, I would download and install SpeedFan, which will monitor every sensor on your computer. Along the way, I would check the operations of all fans, and clean out any dust. Run the system under the same load, but with SpeedFan's GUI up. Watch the temps everywhere.
This ARTICLE's links will point you to several great utilities, including SpeedFan.
There are also RAM testing utilities, and I would run those.
Check the output of your power supply and check that against what is needed for each rail. Do not forget to add the load of your new BD burner.
In case the BSOD screen does not offer any help (often it's just bunches of code, that no one can gather any info from), this ARTICLE will give you tips on finding out clues as to what is happening on your computer, when the BSOD happens.
Though it will likely not help, as a BSOD is most often hardware related, but this ARTICLE will help you get your system ready (once the BSOD issue is solved) for Video editing.
Last, having only one HDD is a big handicap when editing Video, and doubly so with HD. One needs an absolute minimum of 2x 7200 RPM (min.) HDD's, and my recommended minimum is 3x. For HD playback, Adobe recommends at least a RAID 0 for the media drive, for PrPro. PrE is not that much different, regarding real-world system requirements for HD.

i have a hp dv6 laptop.. it would not play any discs or burn them.. i replaced it with a TSST corp CDDVDW TS-L633M 0200.... so now i can play movies, cd's, ect.. but it will not burn cds... i ran a check on it.. and it said theres a write error.. then i did it again and it said it was fine... can anyone help please!

Burning: Help with unwanted gaps
Can someone please help with a problem that's only recently occured when burning CDs. When burning playlists that feature linked tracks, I have found that gaps are still being included, despite the fact that I have selected 'none' in preferences. I have checked and double-checked this, but the same thing keeps happening - unwanted gaps between tracks! Any ideas?
Thanks!iTunes has a preference to set the gap between tracks to "none," which I gather you have already done. However, it does not have the ability to detect and remove silence from the beginning and end of tracks. Is that what you are hearing? If so, you may wish to try a more competent burning program, such as Nero, which can automatically remove silence.

I have uninstalled and reinstalled iTunes several times, but keep getting an error message that "the registry settings for importing and burning CD's and DVD's is missing". Can anyone help with this?
It keeps telling me to reinstall iTunes, but it continues to come back with the same error message.

Help with iPhoto '08 - Slideshow & Ken Burns
I need help with creating a slideshow using Ken Burns effects. The basic problem is that some photos are getting cut off. I know I can modify each photo for start/end place, but each time I run the show, the effects are different (one run, slide 1 goes left to right, next run it zooms out, etc.), so I can't tell which photos need to be individually modified. The show is 100+ photos, so I'd rather not modify each one. I was at the Genius Bar yesterday and the guy told me the effect would be consistent once I made the slideshow, so that I could tell which ones to fix manually, but that's not the case. Please help!!

Thanks!You can adjust the start and end boxes. You can move them, and you can adjust the size by dragging the corners. However, the box will always be in the same shape as your aspect ratio, (e.g. 16:9 or 4:3)
To do this, click on the Gear icon in your photo to open the Inspector. Go to the Rotate, Crop, Ken Burns Tab of the Inspector.

Help with sequence settings in final cut for project with 2 different frame rates.
I really need help with this one! I finished editing a wedding video and realized after exporting that it was filmed in two different frame rates. This has happened before but I converted the footage to match and fixed the problem. In this case, the footage is part 30fps and part 60fps. The majority of it was filmed in 30fps. I cannot convert the 60 to 30 without the slow motion effect which I do not need so I have to find a way to burn this to a DVD without it looking messed up! The video was shot with two Canon 7ds if that helps anything. The first sequence I set at 29.97 and exported as a quicktime movie and all the footage filmed in 60 looked perfect and the footage in 30 looked jittery. Then I tried the sequence at 59.97 and it switched. The footage filmed at 30 looked good and the 60 was cropped in. I am so confused! Any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!
Thanks for your help Michael! The frame rates are 29.97 1920 x 1080 and 59.94 1280 x 720. I did a control click on the clips in final cut and viewed the item properties/format to find this info. The Canon 7d is a DSLR but we use it for video. As for my workflow, the first thing I do is import the footage onto my computer and then drag the clips into mpeg streamclip. I choose apple prores 422 and uncheck the interlaced box. Once this is done I import the .mov files into final cut. The sequence automatically sets itself to whatever clip I drag in first so it originally set as 29.97. When I finished editing wedding video, I export it to a quicktime movie and choose whatever settings match the sequence, in this case apple prores 422 1920 x 1080 30p. Once that is done I use iDVD to burn the discs.
I knew something was wrong when I watched the quicktime movie and all the 30fps footage was jittery and most of the cross dissolves looked strange. That's when I figured out the footage was at two different frame rates. What I don't understand is why whatever the sequence is set at in final cut, the clips of the opposite frame rate look right but the clips set at the matching frame rate don't??? -

Hello i need help with my G4, i havent been useing it for a while and i started using it again. As i was trying to burn a DVD it didnt read my cd at all even if i put a DVD in there it dont read it just come right back out.. on my mac it shows that is there but not reading . what can i do????!!! i need help with this..

I would try reconnecting the data ribbon. It is cramped and difficult to get to, but it may be some corrosion or a poor connection causing the issue.
It's worth a try, as the DVR-115 is a good drive. They don't make them any more........

Hi guys, been reading your forums, blogposts, etc and am getting more confused. I'm just a video girl trying to produce meaningful content through web videos for small to mid sized businesses and want to come over from the dark side.
Good news,, I dont need a super giant system, I do simple editing for web videos, minimal graphics, no motion graphics, no animation etc. currently using CS4, will probably end up with 5.5.
I want to get imac 21.5 or 27 if i have to.. So here's the question we all have,,, what do I really need besides an Apple fairy godmother to figure this crazy stuff out?????
I want to be able to have firewire add on, but the rest is what I need help with. So i've been looking at cs6 specs, even though im not there yet, eventually will be,, so just need to run cs4 now and build from there. I also want to eventually move to final cut down the road so I want imac able to upgrade to final cut.

Any responses would be great. I know you guys are busy answering the really high end tech questionsAll the current iMac models (both 21.5" and 27" with OS X Mt. Lion 10.8) will run CS4, 5.5 and 6 just fine. They will also run Final Cut Pro X just fine. Ditto for most any application you may want to use.
Below are some notes (specific to your apparent requirements) that may help you with your purchase decision:
Notes on purchasing a 21.5" iMac
All 21.5" iMacs come with 8GB RAM but you cannot add more later. I strongly suggest getting the maximum RAM (16GB) when you order the iMac.
The basic hard drive is a 1TB 5400rpm drive. It will work fine with Adobe CS but you will probably want the added speed of the optional 1TB Fusion drive for better performance. Some people will recommend/argue for one of the optional SSD drives instead, but they are very expensive and still only come in relatively small capacities - I don't recommend the SSD drives. Get the Fusion drive and spend any extra money on a good external hard drive for backup and/or extra storage instead of an SSD.
Notes on purchasing a 27" iMac
All 27" iMacs come with 8GB RAM and you can add more later, up to 32GB
The basic hard drive is a 1TB 7200rpm drive - it will be fine with Adobe CS. There are upgrade options to a 3TB 7200rpm drive or a 1TB or 3TB fusion drive - these will be fine also. There are also SSD drive options, but I do not recommend them. (Same comments as above.)
Notes on all the current iMacs
iMacs no longer come with built-in CD/DVD drives. If you need one, you will need to purchase the Apple Superdrive accessory drive ($79)
All of the iMac graphic processors (GPU's) are compatible with Adobe CS 4, 5.5, 6
It is very difficult to impossible to change or upgrade the hard drive later on, so don't buy low-end thinking you can add a better internal hard drive later.
Be aware that Macs always come with the latest (most recent) version of OS X. And OS X Mavericks (10.9) is due to be released soon (in the next month or two). There is no guarantee that the older Adobe CS 4 or 5.5 versions will run on OS X Mavericks. If you cannot upgrade to CS 6 in the near future, you may want to purchase now rather than after OS X Mavericks is released.
For what it's worth, I'd recommend the 27" iMac if your budget can afford it. You will appreciate the larger screen size and added capabilities over the years you will use the computer. -

My problem is, when my burn a slideshow, prop process ever before burning.
Box show: Multiflexing and burning: write Lead-in, then the process stops and ejects the disc.

As a general comment try following this workflow to separate the encoding and burning processes:
Once you have the project as you want it save it as a disk image via the File ➙ Save as Disk Image menu option. This will separate the encoding process from the burn process.
To check the encoding mount the disk image and launch DVD Player and play it. If it plays OK with DVD Player the encoding was good.
Then burn to disk with Disk Utility or Toast at the slowest speed available (2x-4x) to assure the best burn quality. Always use top quality media: Verbatim, Maxell or Taiyo Yuden DVD-R are the most recommended in these forums.

Re: Help with Nomad Jukebox 3 and Creative Softw
Okay I need help with the following...(bare with me!)
First, I have a Nomad Jukebox 3. I record shows with it at concerts that allow me to record via the optical input. I currently use Creative Media Source but I don't have the pluggins to "Burn CD". I am wondering how I can go about getting these?
Currently I can not burn these "line recordings" onto CD, and when I right click on the line recording in the Creative Media Source to find the file name there is no Properties icon that I can go to, to see the file name so I can just do a search in my computer to pull these up in my current CD burning software.
Also, "the line recording" is one big file. What program/software do I use to splice up the individual tracks so that it won't be one long "line recording"?
Now when I bring my music from CD or my computer to my Nomad, I've been using Creative Play Center. Do I have to use this all the time or can I use Creative Media Source? I'd rather use one or the other and not have both to deal with... I don't see any icon of my Nomad Jukebox 3 on the Media Source but there is one on the Creative Play Center.
Okay now one more thing just to inform you that from my Creative Play Center I am converting a concert that I downloaded and it's currently in wav format. I am converting it to MP3. Now when I do that in the Play Center window it now shows me the wav and MP3 format for each individual song. That's cool that it doesn't completely erase the wav format, however when I want to download each song in MP3 format I have to go to each individual MP3 which is fine but everytime the Transfer Options Box opens which asks me the Title, Artist and Genre each time.
Is there a way that I can just fill out the information once, so I don't have to do that for each MP3?
Thank you for helping me understand the Creative software and helping me know what I can and can't do!I found the CD burning module for MediaSource hidden in the download for the Audigy soundcards, at least in the European downloads area. Take a look and if you can't find I'll have another look for it.
To edit the file you need a WAV editor. I'm guessing Creative might bundle something with their soundcards, or you can look on the Internet and take your pick from the cheap to the mega expensi've. Audacity might do it, and it's free http://audacity.sourceforge.net/ so worth checking.
MediaSource is the replacement for PlayCentre, but I think it just comes down to which you prefer (but they are very very similar). Note that you have to download the Nomad pack for MediaSource to get it to work with MediaSource.
When you transfer your converted MP3 to the player it's asking you for tag data, which is vital for the Music Library on the player. You can of course edit this tag information either in MediaSource direct, or probably more optimally in a dedicated tagging program. 3. No. DVD players can't play BluRay discs -- even if they are burned to a DVD disc.
4. 1080p50 is a perfectly legitimate mode for shooting, particularly if you're shooting video with a lot of action, since it has double the actual frames of 1080i50. However, your output video may or may not actually have 50p frames (or even be 1920x1080), depending on what form of media you're publishing as. The BluRay files that Premiere Elements outputs, for instance are 50i. -
I just want to get some help using itunes. I have downladed music - paid for music, and can't get it into itunes. When I used th e'support' thing it just wanted to know my Mac serial numbers!! I don't have a Mac I hace a standard non Mac PC. So why can't I get help with itunes? Its taken me half an hour to get into this support thing because every single name I chose was taken!!!! Its just a nightmare. I hate it!
And now it tells me I must 'choose a community' and itunes isn;t listed! It gets worse! So I chose any community because this is just a never ending nightmare. 40 minutes ago now I clicked on support for itunes and I ended up here!Thanks again. I bought two albums. I've no idea what I use to open a zip file. I just tell it to open and it ususally does but this time Windows media player won't do it!
I am in the UK and its 23.43 so I have to give up and go to bed now. As I said I have had no probes with Amazon downloads. I did email CD baby for help but they just sent the links that you offered earlier.
I have tried to burn to CD so I can listen that way but though I go through all the motions I can't add the tracks to the burn list by copying and pasting, and I can't 'drag the tracks here' beacuse the tracks aren't showing, just the whole album folder. It looks like this:
