  • Unique issue with PDF to WORD .doc conversion with Acrobat Pro - any ideas?

I have been unable to solve the following issue when converting (save as...) PDF documents to Microsoft Word .doc using numerous methods. This could either be an issue that would be fixed in Acrobat Pro itself, or in MS Word - posting to the Adobe forums first.
PREFACE: I am attempting to use the converted .doc file with translation applications/software. Google Translator Toolkit is what I use the most, but ALL other translators are having this very same issue with the .doc file. --The source PDFs are product information from drug manufacturers in various countries that I need to have translated to English. I do not have access to their source documents, as they do not provide their own source docs for obvious reasons.
ALSO: I cannot use Google Translator toolkit to translate from PDFs directly - if you do that, it will attempt to translate a PDF and then export in an .html file, but it does not get the exact spacing of the sentences correctly, which leads to errors in translating - key things such as "can take with alcohol" and "do not take with alcohol". So that's out!
I am not having any problems with the resultant .doc file in MS Word itself. It looks right, the spacing matches the original PDF source perfectly, prints correctly, etc... Reference here on a product info sheet from Austria in German:
The problem: This is a screenshot from Google Translator Toolkit - the right side of the image - the spacing in the lettering from the .doc file I am uploading is not being read correctly, resulting in untranslated gibberish. (Note: this isn't a problem with the translation applications or software -- all are having this issue with .doc files converted from .pdf - this issue isn't present with any old .doc file that wasn't converted from a .pdf) -- It's definitely got something to do with some kind of embedded data in the .doc file that I cannot isolate!!)
My settings in Adobe Pro (convert from PDF to .doc):
Page layout: Flowing Text (this prevents the resultant .doc from having all of those text boxes, which also don't then work in translators)
    Include comments: True
    Include images: True
    Run OCR if needed: True
    Notes:
-I have run OCR text recognition on the source PDF files in it's specific language.
-I have edited the accessibilty of the PDF and have run the tag recognition and quick checks (to see if they solved the issue, which it did not - tagged or untagged, same problems!)
-I have exported the .doc BACK to PDF using MS Word's function, which results in a great looking tagged PDF. THEN I re-saved this new PDF back as a .doc - same issue.
-I have tried saving the PDF in all of the other formats that the translators accept. All have different issues. The only one that works consistently is saving to a .txt (plain)... The best is a .doc to .doc conversion, with all the original spacing. (I am not spending hours reformatting a .txt translation in word)...
I can't seem to find where this spacing data is in the .doc file!!!! (Changing the fonts, sizes, margins -- doesnt fix this either). I have tried so many methods...
Any thoughts on other things to try in Adobe Pro (or Word)?
EDIT: Here's an additional tidbit of info that may be the key to this... There's some kind of coding that is in the .doc that Adobe Pro converted from the source PDF that doesnt display in Word, but that is being seen by the translation programs....... I have no idea what these are, but I want to remove them!

I would suggest you look at the fonts that are being used. It may be a font issue that is not properly being read by the translation program.

  • New to Dreamweaver and need help with PDF and Word

I'm trying to put forms on my web page http://www.troop4084.org and I cannot get them to show up on the internet. I have them in the folder. If there is a step-by-step process to do this?

I think so, that may be the issue. I'm still looking at that one to figure it out.  My pictures work fine
and I followed the same procedure for the Word/PDF documents...
Your images are in the 'images' folder:
    http://www.troop4084.org/Images/Anacortes%20Sign.jpg
The pdfs are neither in the images folder or where the links says they are in the site folder itself.
See the link below - It says the FOS.pdf is in the site folder itself. Not in any other folders.
    http://www.troop4084.org/FOS.pdf
If you upload the FOS.pdf to the site folder on your server the link will be correct.
or you can put the FOS.pdf in the 'images' folder and change the link to as below:
    http://www.troop4084.org/images/FOS.pdf
or you may want to create a 'pdf' folder on your server and upload the 'pdfs' into that with the link below:

    Hi Cowandmoon,
From within Adobe Reader, could you try opening Adobe Reader XI and choosing Edit > Preferences (Windows) or Adobe Reader > Preferences (Mac), then select 'Adobe Online Services' from the left-hand side.  Click 'Sign Out...', then sign back in with your Adobe ID and password.
After this is completed, try choosing the Tools pane again from within Reader to see if you can access your subscription.
Please let us know how it goes!
    Thanks,

    Hi lorrelaws,
Do you receive that error when you try to sign in via Reader? If so, try signing in via the web interface. Did that do the trick?
Let us know how it goes.

  • Save as pdf or word doc with password

I can't seem to create a pdf or a word .doc from my (applework) document which has a password.
That is I want the pdf or word doc to have a password - the same one hopefully as my original but I can't find how to do it!
    Any tips please?
    Gordon

You may be able to set a password for the file at the system level.
Open the Disk Utility in the /Applications/Utilities/ folder and create an encrypted disk image without putting the password in your keychain. Move the file to the mounted image, and then throw away the copy directly on the hard disk followed by choosing Secure Empty Trash in the Finder.

  • When I converted a file from PDF to WORD.DOC it opened as Read Only and I'm unable to alter any of the text.  How can I solve this problem?

When I tried to convert a file from PDF to WORD.DOC it opened as Read Only and I'm unable to alter any of the text.  How do I solve this problem?  I don't know how to change it from Read Only.

    Dear Sara
Thank you very much for sending the converted file.  Yes, I am able to edit it - that will be very useful to me and I appreciate your help.
Referring to your previous message when you said you'd converted via Acrobat and not Acrobat.com, I'm converting via Acrobat.com because that's the only option that is shown (how do I convert via Acrobat? - perhaps that would be more successful).  I'm using the Export PDF website, and the OCR is enabled to "Recognize text in English UK".  However, I've just tried converting a different LPA pdf form, this time for Health & Welfare https://www.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/245571/LPA114_He alth_welfare_LPA.pdf and again I have the same problem as before.  I've altered it from "Read only" and thought I'd then be able to enter text, but "Drawing Tools" is shown in the pane and I'm unable to enter anything onto the form - everything appears to be in images.  Also, the lettering on the heading of' page 1 has become jumbled, with the word "Public" overlaying the word "Guardian."  Any suggestions as to what it is I'm doing wrong would be welcome - I don't like to be beaten!
    Regards,
    Judith.

  • Adobe form submit button to pdf or word doc

Hey I was wondering if it was possible to create an adobe form with a submit button that generates a pdf or word doc letter with the information.

    Hi Prasanna,
in any clien machine where you want to get the Adobe output displayed you need to have
    1.  Adobe Reader Version 6.0.2+
    2.  IE 5.5+ or Netscape 7+
    3.  ACF (Active Control Framework) installed
    4.  ActiveX controls enabled in the Client Browser.
Please try these, it should work.
    Hope it helps

  • Can i convert pdf to word doc for free?

With Adobe XI, it appears that i can convert a pdf to word doc for free, at least that is what the help page shows. However, when i try to convert the document i am led to a subscription page for this to function to be available. It's not expensive, but it is very misleading.

There is a 30-day trial for Acrobat, but not sure it can convert to WORD (though I think it can). The full product can. However, be aware that conversion from PDF to DOCX varys depending on the way the PDF was created. If properly created, the conversion may be almost exact, but more commonly there format issues and such to deal with. There are also different conversion selections that give options to retain text flow versus layout. If you are looking for perfection, then don't be surprised when you don't get it.

  • Hyperlinks in PDF'd word doc

hyeperlinks aren't happening after I PDF a Word doc. I'd be soooo grateful for right answer on this - the hyperlink feature is the whole point for me to have Pro.
    thanks so much.

    There is a PDF Creator
    from Code-Poetry http://www.codepoetry.net/projects/cups-pdf-for-mosx
That will do it.  install. install it and if word has any hyperlinks when you go to Printer:
The will Transfer over with no problem :
Note the two email adresses show in this png one is mine that now goes to a spam dump email address for me.
the other belonged to a cousin but she changed providers so this email address doesn't exist. Plus this a PNG representation and is not clickable
this was a copy of an email that was  was converted to a word document  to be used in a family tree item on my website.
In or to do this in acrobat I actually have to go to advanced menu then choose create to a url, or a  mailto
This Utility actually proves a point, MS has been making about needed information to create URLs and Mailtos are in word Mac and have been all along.
