Help with Question: What is 4G

I have a presentation that I am giving where I have to discuss what the difference between 3G and 4G is. I need to simplify this idea down to the basics and I need to first know what 3G and 4G are in the first place. I have a very vague knowledge about this area and would love some help from people who know what they are talking about. Any Help would be appreciated.

Go to www.speedtest.net, and measure your connection speed.    The unit of measure is Mbps MegaBits per Second. What does it mean in the real world?   One mgbps is barely adiquate to watch a YouTube or Hulu without interminable BUFFERING breaks.
My current 3G just measured .83 download, .58 upload.    (that'sPOINT 83! Not even a whole ONE) Thank You Verizon for this very SUBSTANDARD rate.
The 4G is in the realm of 18 whole mbps. or more.    It's like magic. I download enormous files in seconds - minutes at the most, that would take hours (if not days    - even if we could stay connected, at 3G. )
If you're not in an established 4G area, don't waste your money.   Wait for 4G to come to you.

Need help with question about upgrading phone

Okay, so, here's what's going on:
I currently have a Samsung Galaxy Nexus on Verizon.
It's dying/freezing/battery life is terrible. Looking to upgrade.
I don't have an upgrade available for my line, but my wife does.
She's giving me permission to use hers, which a Verizon rep told me is fine.
I want to use her upgrade to get a Samsung Galaxy Note II.
The best price (subsidized) right now is on Dell's site ($169.99), which I could price-match at Best Buy (employee confirmed this). However, it's still a little high for me.
I could get a better price by adding a line with this device - shave off $40 ($129.99).
So here's my question: is there any way to add a line, get some immediate savings on the purchase, then immediately cancel the line (maybe only taking a little bit of a hit, getting most of the cost reimbursed for not using it)? In other words, how can I get this phone as cheap as possible?

If you add a line as you suggest, that new line will come with a 2 year (24 month) contract for service that will have a $350 Early Termination Fee (ETF) if you cancel the line immediately like you indicated. There goes the thought of getting the Note II for the cheaper than the upgrade price.
I recommend going with the price match upgrade @ $169.99 at Best Buy. I can confirm they do the price match. I bought my last phone from Best Buy and they matched the Radio Shack price I brought them and I had a good experience.

Need help with question about Microsoft Excel?

I have recently begun using Microsoft Office for Mac. My question is related to the Excel program. I have used this for years on a PC where when the program opens, it shows a Workbook with a single page. However, on the Mac, when it opens, it shows many pages, the first going from column A to G, the second going from H to N, etc. and each page with the text "Click to add data". This continues forever. I would like to have just one sheet as on the PC. I have not found a way to limit this view to a single page. I have looked in the Preferences and in "View", but nothing seems to change the configuration. Any suggestions?

My zoom only shows the magnification and does not give a "one page" option. However, I did find an icon that I loaded into the menu bar which gives the one page view. This may be due to the version 2004 that I am using.
I also find that if I want to change the number of columns and rows, I change the size of each. I assume this is correct.

Help with itunes "whats on this ipad" not showing up - help

Hi! When I plug in my ipad or ipod to my computer and open itunes, itunes recognizes them, BUT the "what's on this ipad/ipod" doesn't show up so I cannot manage my music...thoughts? Everything is updated, my cords are good? Help!

It should be able to copy any photos that you have in the Photos app - it sees all the albums and the photos that I've synced from my computer, as well as the photos that I've taken with the iPad and copied to via the camera kit and saved from emails.
When you open the app you should be given a URL to type in on a browser on your computer - that should then allow you to select an album, and then one or more photos within that album to copy to your computer

My question is: Do I need to re-install Snow Leopard?
Here is what happened:
I downloaded a program "Monolingual" to remove other languages (mine is English) which I began removing and discovered I should have un-checke "Enlgish - United States" but had only un-checked English so I cancelled the "Remove" after it had run for a period of time. I received the message that some files had not been erased.
A tab at the top showed I could removed unused "Architectures" so I began removing PC powe-point architectures etc - and begarn removing them when I suddenly remember some programs I use have that achitecture and stopped the program.
To be able to use those programs, and I am not sure how far the removal program had progressed,
Do I need to re-install Snow Leopard.
I would appreciate your help.

If you have a full backup (clone or Time Machine) restore from that. It's always a good idea to have some form of reliable backup. Otherwise, yes I would reinstall (not erase and install) Snow. Just choose the install option. This will give you new system files while preserving your user and network settings as well as all apps. When finished, update to 10.6.8 using the Combo Update.

Monolingual is very bad news and it will hardly save you any disk space.
PPC means PowerPC, not powerpoint.

Yes. Your documents will be unaffected by any new versions you install unless you open them in the new version and save them with the same name, then you will lose the ability to open them again in the old version.

Help with questions about upgrading iLife'08 onto an older PowerBook G4

I am seeking help/advice for a very low tech guy. I upgraded my PowerBook G4 (ancient I know but I have trouble with our thow away society), to Leopard 10.5.2. However, my iDVD no longer works. I plan on upgrading to iLife'08, but based on the system requirements, I am not certain all of the features (i.e. iMovie'08) will work on my older processor. Before I upgrade to iLife, can anyone tell me if I should do it and if they will work on my all the features will work on my PowerBook G4?

You can upgrade to iLife 08. All the apps should install except iMovie.
However, if you have iMovie 06, it will still work. And if you don't have iMovie 06, you can get it as a free download on the iMovie 08 Support Page.

ANd exactly sorry, this is useless. You have not provided any details about your export settings, version of AI, system info, how you are trying to view and so on. Just saying that it doesn't work is simply not good enough.

Help with HashMap - what am I doing wrong?!?!

I'm hoping to create multiple instances of an object and identify each one differently. On an earlier thread, someone recommended I use a hashmap to do this. I'm trying but failing. The following code is intended to allow me to ask for 1 and get apple and ask for 2 and get banana. Instead, when I ask for either I get banana, which is making me think that I'm just rewriting over my object and putting two of the same instances in the hashmap.

Heres the description
These cruises have a name, a duration of 2,3 days and a cost that varies between 600 and 1000. The cruises are repeatedly run along various standard routes starting at four different ports. The start date of each voyage, its starting location and its ships are recorded.
Customer book the cruises and SeadCruise need to record the customer name, gender telephone number, and address. Each time a customer name, gender, telephone number, and address. Each time a customer takes a cruise their cabin number and class (1st, 2nd) is recorded. Customer will also give an evaluation of the cruise (0, 5) SeadCruise need to recored the evaluation from each customer each time they take a cruise. It is not a requirement that that all voyages have passengers registered on them, and it is also not required that every customer has to have participated in a cruise. Each ship has a name, a port of registration and gross tonnage.

Find the voyages of cruises that have an occupany below a the average occupancy for voyage of that course.
I am come to the conclusion that the below tables are require. Would I be right in thinking this.

I really need some help with rendering

I am creating a video for a client, and he is going to stream it through his own player. He requires the video to play using dimentions of 430 x 242.
He wants to keep the file sizes as small as possible.
I am currently creating his videos using a 1280 x 720 composition, as this is the same aspect ratio as his specific dimentions.
I am unsure of the best settings to use for the best quality. I've tried MOV but am getting files that are 600+ MB, and I'm also trying MPEG4 but getting blurry, washed out results that look nothing like the preview in AE. I've tried Flash and it stutters.
My questions:
1. Should I render in 1280 x 720 and just ask him to re-size them through his player? (I assume most players can do this?) or should I render to the dimensions of 430 x 242? He doesn't have too much knowledge of video.
2. What is the best file format and settings?
3. Is it possible to re-set the render option defaults? I've played around with all of the setting so much that I can't remember how each file format was set before I started this project. I've tried re-starting AE but it still leaves me with the same settings as when I closed it.
Every time I post a question like this I get people telling me to 'read the basics' or 'we get asked this time and time again etc'. Please note that I have a disability and am finding this very tough - if it isn't too much trouble I'd just appriciate someone giving the information so that I can learn in from here. It will need to be explained simply as yes I am fairly new to AE.

First question: What player is your client going to be using to play this? Everything depends on that. For example, if he's going to be playing the file using QuickTime Player, then the answer is pretty easy: create a QuickTime movie (.mov).

No, not if you've been told that he wants a 430x242 file. If you make a big movie (in terms of frame dimensions) and have him resize it, then you're going to create much larger files than necessary.

The QuickTime movie (.mov) format is just a container format. It can contain video encoded using any of a large number of codecs, with any of a range of quality settings. The default is a lossless compression (using the Animation codec) that creates perfect images at the expense of larger files.
After you've added your composition to the render queue, choose QuickTime as your format in the Output Module Settings dialog box and then click the Format Options button in the Output Module Settings dialog box. You can choose a compression type, set quality, et cetera. People seem to like the H.264 codec for a good balance of size and quality.

Need help with lost iMovie project.

I was creating an iMovie project for school and needed to save it on a USB, so I clicked on 'Export Movie' from the 'Share' options menu in iMovie. I chose the type I wanted it saved in (viewing for computers) and then a smaller screen in iMovie popped up saying it was exporting the movie, or something like that. It took about a good 30 minutes and my project was a 7 minute movie with film clips, music, transitions, ect. I exported this project to my USB but when it finished it wasn't on there and when I finally found it on the Mac somewhere, I went to drag it into my USB but it said it was full. I then dragged the project onto my desktop and tried to open it to see if it worked. When I did the iMovie icon jumped once and stopped. I clicked on iMovie and it was still there in the projects screen. I then decided to close iMovie and open the project again from my desktop to see if it would play like a normal movie but once I clicked it the iMovie icon jumped again, opened but my project that I was trying to open was not there anymore and wouldn't open from my desktop file. I cannot open it at all and view it, it has been lost from my iMovie. Is there a way that I can get it back? Really need some help with this.

What version of iMovie are you using?
