Help with QuickTime

I am a newbie with MPEG and would like to know what type or kind of file is necessary to make a QuickTime movie for the Internet. The producer of the files gave me a DVD which was not mountable on my computer, so I could not even see what kind of files he was providing. Now he's asking me to tell him what I want but I do not know!
HELP!

I am having this problem too. Just paid the subscription for an online Craft magazine in UK but when I click to open it, I just get that annoying Q with the ? in the middle. Someone said the site was supposed to run on Flash Media, so I unchecked everything in Quicktime but it still came up with the same page, even after restarting the pc. Any help or advice please?

  • Need Help with QuickTime to Apple TV Export Weirdness

I am having a problem using QuickTime Player 7 Pro to convert a movie file in its original 1280x720 size for use with Apple TV. (iMovie creates a 960x540 file for Apple TV by default and the only way to get a 1280x720 file is to have iMovie use QuickTime to export it as a .mov file in that size and convert it to a .m4v file for Apple TV separately, with QuickTime Player 7 Pro. Unfortunately, I haven't been able to produce the 1280x720 file that is compatible with Apple TV.
To demonstrate my issue, I exported two projects from iMovie, both using the Export via QuickTime menu option, set at Movie to QuickTIme Movie, 1280x720, H.264, 24fps:
    - Movie 1 is an 8:20 video. (All library video taken by the same camera and imported into iMovie at the same time).
    - Movie 2 is a :15 test video using a clip from the same source as Movie 1.
Next, I used QuickTime Player 7 Pro to export Movie 2, the short test clip, using the Movie to Apple TV setting. It  yielded a 1280x720 .m4v file, just as I wanted. With that test completed, I moved on to the full video.
When I exported Movie 1, the full 8:20 movie, using exactly the same setting in QuickTime Player 7 Pro, it produced a 960x540 .m4v file! Repeated exports yielded the same results.
How can this happen? How do I get the1280x720p Apple TV-compatible file that I want?

Thanks for the detailed reply. I have exported movies from iMovie many times with the "Export using QuickTime/Movie to QuickTime Movie" Share menu option. Despite the fact that Apple literature states that TV1 will play an H.264/AAC 1280x720, 24fps MOV file, I have never been able to get one to play. It won't even sync. (I get an error message stating the sync didn't work because the file is incompatible with TV.)
Sorry for the delay in responding. Wanted to check a couple of files on the TV1. Don't have many files encoded at 720p24 and have re-converted most for better AC3 DD5.1 quality at 640 Kbps for the TV2 units.. In any case, wanted to make a quick check to see if they still played with increased specs after the last update. Files play but only for a few seconds before freezing. Thought it might be to to wireless streaming to the TV1 so I tried synching a test file but it played the same way. Only files that still play are 540p30 files. Not sure if they have really "killed" 720p or not as a couple of trailers (Thor and Captain America) play at 1280x544 (i.e. 2720 macro-blocks) which is significantly more than my 960x540 (2040 macro-block) files. Might be interesting to see if a 960x720 PAR encoded file will still play on the TV1. (Not that it would help you but it is a matter of some curiosity for me.)
I spent much time at my Apple retail store trying to see what I may have done wrong. The Apple Geniuses there confirmed with me that TV1 will not play this type of file. (I have no experience with TV 2, but I would be surprised if the results were different.
Then be prepared to be surprised. The TV2 plays the 720p files just fine even with the increased audio data rate for the secondary AC3 DD5.1 surround sound. In fact, I am seriously considering the retirement of the TV2 so I can watch all files without having to worry about frame rates. (Besides, my wife keeps complaining that the bedroom TV (the TV1 unit) doesn't play her Netflix "chick flicks."
I just tried renaming the MOV file to M4V. It now syncs with my TV. Unfortunately, it still won't play. The error message on the screen states "The format was not recognized."
Strange, my files are recognized, stream, sync, and play (albeit with frozen video as sound continues) whether I use a real M4V or MOV file container. (Don't have an MP4 720p file to test at the moment.)
So, I am forced to export and then convert. That said, I am embarrassed (but happy) to admit that I found the solution to my QT 7 Pro problem. As I experimented further today,I found that my test file (Movie 2) was exported by iMovie at 24 fps and the full movie was exported at 30 (29.97) fps. QT 7 Pro must have forced the conversion to 960x540, which would be the only way a 30fps file would play on TV. Once I corrected the setting and exported again at 24fps, the QT 7 Pro conversion to 1280x720 worked as it should.
Glad you were able to settle that issue.
If you or anyone knows of a way to export from iMovie into a 1280x720, 24 fps format guaranteed to be compatible with TV1, please post instructions. Until then, I will have to keep using an intermediate export first and then Handbrake or QT 7 Pro to convert.
It's not really possible to guarantee that every file will be playable since the content actually drives the encoder and may require changes to user settings on occasions. However, having said that, I take it you did not try the "Export using QuickTime.../Movie to MPEG-4 Movie" Share menu option previously suggested. It will allow you to create an H.264/AAC 720p24 TV1 compatible MP4 file directly from iMovie. Here is a "quickie" file I exported from iMovie moments ago which plays on my TV1.

  • Help with Quicktime. (very annoying problem)

    Hello,
I am a newbie to this forum. I searched the forum and couldn't find the answer I was looking for so here is my question. When I try to open either iTunes or the Quicktime player I get a error message that reads "iTunes has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience." (it is one of those 'send error report' messages. Anyone who has windows has probably seen them before) Since it is happening with both Quicktime player and iTunes I can only assume that this is a problem with Quicktime. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling many times. Every time I try to uninstall Quicktime it tells me "a fatal error has occurred during installation" and never uninstalls. The only way I can uninstall is to just remove all the program files. Has anyone ever experienced this before? I need help.
    Thank you.
P.S. Also when I try to just uninstall Quicktime buy hitting the "uninstall quicktime message" it starts to uninstall and then says "The installer encountered errors before the requested operations for quicktime could be completed."

if you are having issues uninstalling quicktime on XP, follow this guide:
    Open the Program Files folder.
Right-click the QuickTime folder and select Delete and choose Yes when asked to confirm the deletion. Note: This folder may have already been deleted if QuickTime was successfully removed in steps 1-7.
Delete the QuickTime and QuicktimeVR files located in the C:\Windows\system32\ folder. Click Continue if Windows needs confirmation or permission to continue.
Right-click on the Recycle Bin and on the shortcut menu, click Empty Recycle Bin.
    Restart your computer.
    (from http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1925)
You may also want to use a registry cleaner to get rid of any quicktime references (or Use Regedit (ONLY IF YOU KNOW WHAT YOU ARE DOING))

Unfortunately, these sorts of msi-related troubles have gotten more complicated to deal with ever since Microsoft pulled the Windows Installer CleanUp utility from their Download Center on June 25. First we have to find a copy of the utility.
Let's try Googling. (Best not to use Bing, I think.) Look for a working download site for at least version 3.0 of the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. After downloading the utility installer file (msicuu2.exe), scan the file for malware, just in case. (I use the free version of Malwarebytes AntiMalware to do single-file scans for that.)
If the file is clean, to install the utility, doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file you've downloaded.
Now run the utility ("Start > All Programs > Windows Install Clean Up"). In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any QuickTime entries and click "Remove".
Quit out of CleanUp, restart the PC and try installing QuickTime again. Does the install go through properly this time?
(If you do find a clean download site for the correct version of CleanUp, please don't tell me where it is. Without wishing to sound paranoid (although I grant it does sound paranoid), there is a non-zero chance that posting links to download locations for the utility here at Discussions leads to that download location being shut down.)

  • Help with Quicktime for Windows 7 64-bit

I am having a problem with the latest version of Quicktime for Windows. When I launch Quicktime and then 'click' on any icon for download I can see the sentence, "Connecting to iTunes" and then I am redirected to download iTunes... Problem is that I already have iTunes.
Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit SP1 and up to date.
    iTunes version 11.1.3.8
    Quicktime version 7.74.80.86
I Unibstalled both products, using the guide provided from Apple. I, then downloaded and installed iTunes first, then I downloaded Quicktime and installed it. I had the same issue. Next, I went to Control Panel/ "programs and Features, used the "change" option and clicked "repair". I did this for both iTunes and Quicktime. They ran fine. No error messages, nothing in event logs, no trace of an install log to try to diagnose this myself. Does anyone have this problem, or can anyone help me to start the diagnosis necessary to solve this?
Second issue came to light after all of the steps I performed; Before, I would conect my iPhone to a USB port and iTunes would launch automatically. Now, it does not. I see my 4s in devices and I see a normal state using device manager. So, I went to "Default Programs" and selected my 4s and the dropdown window no longer has an option for iTunes. However, when I go to choose a default program for audeo, etc. the dropdown mwnu has an option for iTunes.
Thanks for reading and I would like some help.

Hi guys, im a newbie to this forum, so im hoping u can all lend a hand. I have some video files in mpeg2 format which when i play in quicktime (after the addition of the mpeg2 add on) the first 3 seconds seems to play not quite at 25 fps, it seems to skip a few frames (but the audio is fine) and once it gets to the three second mark it plays brilliantly. Try this
    Go to Control Panel
    Double Click on quick time

If I remember correctly it had something to do with Outdated Direct X Drivers but not 100% sure

I DO USE A HD SD CARD BUT I DON'T THINK THATS THE PROBLEM...PLEASE IF SOMEONE KNOW'S WHAT TO DO PLEASE HELP ME OUT ASAP...THANK YOU.

PLEASE IF SOMEONE KNOW'S WHAT TO DO PLEASE HELP ME OUT ASAP
AVI is a file container -- not a compression format. To know what codec you need, you have to check the Finder "Information", QT "Inspector", QT 7 Pro "Properties", or similar multimedia window that will tell you what audio and/or video codec was used to encode your file. If the codec is available for the Mac, you would then download and install the specif component or component package providing the needed support. Most common AVI components are supported by the Perian component package... but not all. If you simply ant to try a "hit or miss" installation approach, then you should propably start here if you have not already installed the latest version. However, be sure to read the warnings regarding known conflicts with certain other components which now may have to be removed.

Here are the steps to fixing your Quicktime..
    1) restart your computer
    2) when the computer boots press the f12 key
    3) there will be a few options choose "safe mode" and press enter

5)go to "my computer" and go to "program files"
6)scroll down to the quicktime folder and delete from your computer that way. (dont forget to empty your recycle bin before you restart)
7)restart the computer and reinstall Quicktime
There you have it you fixed quicktime!
But that didnt work either so now im still stuck, ive tried over and over to delete it out of my computer(the addd and remove programs thing) but every thime i did that and reinstalled it then tried to use it the program gave me an error report! You know the kind that says the whole "send or "don't send" thing. Big problem please help!

  • Help With Quicktime Update Download Issue?....No DMG format? Only Windows?

I just got the new Final Cut Studio updates, but when I tried to install them for FCS 2, it asks for the 7.3 Quicktime? When I went to the Support section for downloads and tried to download for OS X, its only gave me the option to download for Windows XP? or Vista? I need a link to one of the proper pages to download the QT DMG 7.3, please help? Thank You Tim C.

Apple uses a "browser detect" to determine what type of OS is being used and redirects to that version download page. If you're using Windows to visit you'll only see the Windows download.

  • Help with Quicktime installation

Hello. I am having problems installing Quicktime. The problem began when I tried to update my I-tunes. After the installation was finished this message appeared: Quicktime failed to install Error: -3. Now I cannot use my I-tunes at all. I've tried everything I can think of at this point. I've uninstalled everything and reinstalled and I always get the same error. I've tried reinstalling my i-pod software and that works but I can't access the hundreds of songs I've already purchased from I-tunes because it tells me I need the newest version to authorize them which I can't upgrade to because I can't install Quicktime 7. This is very frustrating and I don't know what else to do. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thank you

  • Can anyone help with Quicktime Pro audio prob?

I've been trying to compress an audio/video file shot on my Cybershot so that I can upload on a contest website. Every time I copy into I-Movie, I have no audio (although it plays fine on my desktop). I was told I-Movie does not support muxed streaming. At Apple's recommendation, I upgraded to Quicktime Pro.
The audio and video both work fine when I play it in Quicktime Pro; but when I export it from Quicktime to either MPEG4 or Quicktime Movie, I get no audio. (Also, the audio setting area is grayed out.) Any suggestions? I need to send the file 320X240 around 15 mb by midnight tonight.
    Thanks for the help...

Use the "Export to DV" option. (Any of the sub options will work.) Split into segments if needed for older versions of iMovie.

  • Help with quicktime in iMovie 9

In imovie 9 i use quick time to export my videos ready for uploading to Youtube and i noticed that the dark areas in my videos look grainy and not in HD like the video should be..is there something i should be doing to the setting to make this work? I did read on youtube this see link https://support.google.com/youtube/bin/answer.py?hl=en-GB&answer=1297408&hl= en-US
I have done all this accept for "Select Size and choose the original size of the video." I'm unsure which option i should choose? my video is 1080p but i have no idea what size the video is when i right click my video files it gives me some information, yet I'd have to type that in the setting box which then dosent allow me to make it HD :/ or maybe thats not were i should be looking? So please help and tell me what i need to do in order to export using quicktime and be able to upload in HD to Youtube.
Also is there a way to make the file size smaller to reduce uploading time yet at the same time not make it a super small video and reduce the quality as i want to keep it in HD to Youtube sometimes my videos take a full day to upload

I'm not sure about the problem of graininess. I assume your video was already in 1080p quality before you tried uploading. If it is originally less than that, you can't mae it any better. Ther is no way to make uploading to YouTube faster without losing quality...
