Help with Resolution/Document Raster Effects

I am wanting to upload my logo to my credit card company to put on the face of my new card.
obviously this will be small in size (1.5"x3") but the cc company requires the upload be at least 400pixels x 400pixels.
I don't want to upload a 13"x6" because they shrink it down and it loses quality.
I have tried changing the Document Raster Effects to 300 ppi, but the rulers still show 72 ppi and when I save it to jpeg, it is only 72 ppi.
How can I get a 1.5" x 3" document to save with 450px by 900px dimensions?

I am not certain I understand the need to pen this in photoshop and all this other stuff but you can simply export it as a jpeg.
I am going to show screen shots because this comes up all the time and everyone gives strange instructions.
1 Make the art and artboard 3 inches wide constraining the proportions (works out to 3 x 1.37) the art is of course a little smaller.
2. Export it and choose jpeg as the format (select use artboards)
3. in the jpeg options dialog choose maximum quality and then choose for resolution high, which is 300ppi.
Now you have a jpeg that is 3 x 1.367inches at 900 x 410 pixels

Drop shadow failing to blur with high document raster effects settings DPI

I have a 1024px square artboard (in Illustrator CS6 16.1.0 running on Mountain Lion 10.8.1) with some fairly simply artwork that has a drop shadow effect applied, shown here at 33% with the Document Raster Effects Settings (DRES) resolution set to 150 DPI:
If I change the DRES resolution to 300 DPI, the blur on the drop shadow disappears entirely:
If I leave the DRES resolution at 300 DPI, but resize the image to make it a little smaller, the blur on the drop shadow comes back:
I’ve wasted several hours already trying to get the desired blurry drop-shadow on the full sized image with the DRES resolution at 300 DPI, to no avail. Does anyone have any idea as to what is going on here, and what I can do to solve this problem?

The Gaussian Blur was rewritten for CS6 and should probably be similar in CC. Your screen shots did not get properly attached. Can you try again to attach them using the Camera icon in the reply window tool bar?

Document raster effect settings and Gradient mesh resolution settings...

        I need to set Document raster effect settings and Gradient mesh settings as high resolution in Illustrator 10.. Dont no which header file and suites have to use?
       How can i get and set the value of both Document raster effect settings and Gradient mesh settings?

I found Raster resolution values in AIDocumentList.h header file. Raster Resolution values is inside of the AIRasterResolution struct. This AIRasterResolution struct is inside of the AINewDocumentPreset struct.
Dont know how to get and set that Raster resolution of a current document? Pls someone help me.

How do I address / fix the issue that leads to this WARNING when saving my Illustrator CS6 file? All embedded images are 300 ppi.

The warning has nothing to do with your images.
It is simply a statement that tells you that you have not set Effect>Document Raster Effects Settings higher than the default screen value of 72 PPI.
If you have no raster effects applied to your vector artwork there is no need to worry.
If you have, you should consider which value is suitable.

How do I permanently change the default Document Raster Effects Settings from 72 ppi to 300 ppi in Illustrator CS2 for Windows XP?

Open the file called "Adobe Illustrator Startup_CMYK.ai" located at C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Illustrator CS2\Plug-ins. Make changes to the Document Raster Effects Settings & save the file, replacing the original file. Take a backup of the original file so that you can revert to it later on, if need be.

Document Raster Effects Settings? I can't find it!

I am using Illustrator CS5. I am looking for the document raster effects settings. I think they are at 72DPI because my drop shadows on my images are pixelated when I print out my design.
I want to change the document raster effect to 300DPI.
I googled it and in CS4 it was under the effects menu but in CS5 I don't have the effects menu anymore. It is under Objects->Effects but I don't see the document raster effects settings anywhere.
Any ideas?

You are showing us a screensht of InDesign which is different from Illustrator.
I do not believe that ID has a raster effects setting.
This is the Illust6rator Frum you are mixing up the tw different applications, they are not the same.

Change document raster effects to 300dpi??

Using Illustrator CS
Am up against a deadline for an image to be printed at 300. Made image using default of 72 dpi. As you would expect and I did not, when coverting to 300 dpi, the appearance of my gaussian blurs are diminished to the point where they can barely be seen, and instead of subtle blurs I have sharp lines. I understand that the correct way to do this would have been to work in 300 dpi all along, but it is rather late for that. Short of redoing all my raster effects, is there a way to preserve the appearnce of the gaussian blurs at 300 dpi?
If I do need to go back and redo all my effects, is there a shortcut or method or script I can use to speed this process up?
Help, please? Clock is ticking and I am not working on a new machine.

Help with ME21N Document Overview Layout

There are two sets of people who use ME21N to create Purchase Orders. I've created 2 layouts for them to be used with the document overview on. I know I can set one layout as a system default. Is there anyway I can have the layout assigned or defaulted per User?

Try using the transaction code OMET.
Create new Function auth (say PO) there in which select FieldSel. in General Parameters tab. As mentioned that you had created two layouts, select this layout from dropdown using F4 on field FieldSel. then save the transaction.
Now assign this newly created Function auth (PO) to the specific users using SU01/SU3 in parameter tab in parameter as EFB with value as PO (as defined).

Help with Two Document folders w/ same contents

Could use some help.......
I migrated from an older Mac to a new Mac about a month ago. At the same time I moved from Leopard to Snow Leopard. I used the Migration Assistant except for applications which I reinstalled from scratch (except preferences, etc. which were migrated).
In doing so I ended up, unbeknownst to me, with my documents both in the root level Documents folder ( /Documents) and in "my" user Documents folder (/Users/my/Documents). At least I assume that this happened during migration.
Today I found this out and, very unfortunately for me, that some of my Spotlight launches and subsequent file edits have not been to my Document files but to the duplicate ones at the root level.
I need to correct this, then delete those unwanted/unneeded duplicates and then block Spotlight from accessing that folder just in case something gets put there in the future.
With that as background my questions:
1. What are default post-install root (computer HD) level folders? Want to make sure no other errors. The folders I have are:
Applications
Desktop Folder
dev-1 (note: locked)
Documents
Library
System
User Guides and Information (note: alias)
Users
2. Is there an Apple utility or other way to compare this root level Documents folder with the users/my/Documents folder to determine what might have changed in the former when it should have been a change to the later?
3. Do those who use Spotlight frequently recommend privacy setting blocks beyond external drives? That has been my setting but now I feel I need to increase the privacy blocks.

A Documents folder at the root may come from an old OS 9 system which did have a Documents folder at the root. In OS X your Documents folder is in the Home folder (Users/urshortname/Documents/.)
OS X has only the following root folders visible:
Applications
Library
System
Users
If you want to view the contents of the root level Documents folder just double-click on it to open a Finder window on the contents. There is no built-in folder comparison utility but there are third-party utilities you can find at VersionTracker or MacUpdate. Or just open a second window on the /Home/Documents/ folder and put them side by side.
I'm not sure I understand what you men by privacy blocks that you would need to create. Maybe you could clarify.

Need Help With Waveform-driven Image Effects

I've been working on a full-dome 3D animation for a couple of years now and I'm looking for someone to help with a custom plug-in for After Effects, Photoshop and/or Combustion. I need to be able to drive filters and effects like Brush Strokes and 'sketchy' noise with the waveform from an audio file. I've been using a very poor mans workflow in which I've mapped the waveform by breaking it up into vertical ranges of varying intensities and then applying respective levels of the effects and filters to the sequential images based on where they fall in the waveform ranges. So for the test Ive done, I've been literally applying Photoshop actions to very small packets of still images from rendered sequences, and it has been dizzyingly time-consuming. Ideally I would want to be able to do this dynamically with a motion graphics package, but really I'm looking for as much help as I can get.
This project began as my master's thesis and I'm working on it during the free time I have between teaching and freelance work; I don't have much money but I am willing to pay for help with this goal. There is still a lot of 3D work that I still need to do and the rendering process will be slow, so this wouldn't be a job with strict or tight deadlines. The final images will be very large (3200x3200) and with the growth in the full-dome market, these sizes could easily increase. Help with resizing document

Hi guys,
I am trying to resize my current document. It is currently 1000px and I want to make it 1300px but when I do that, all the elements that is near the top becomes off the screen to the top...Why is that? I only want the document to be longer in height from the bottom but not sure what it is affecting the elements on the top?
Any help appreciated.

Check you publish settings html scale, you might already have "No Border" selected, try publish with "Show all" or "Exact fit".
You may also edit the scale from html <param name="scale" value="noborder", try change it to showall or exactfit.
The swf scale can also be controlled by actionscript Stage.scaleMode

Help with gradient and 'ghost effect'

Hello. I created this image many years ago and I have forgotten how I did it.
I now want to create the same effect with this image ..
The brown is #a03506 - I have tried in vain to replicate what I did. Radial gradient? I just can't remember.
Can anyone help me please?

It's a little hard to tell what the original image looks like, but I'll give you some ideas of what you can do.
I'm assuming you want something like this:
If so, you need to turn the image into a layer.
Double click the thumbnail of the image in the Layers panel.
This opens the New Layer dialog box.
You don't have to do anything here. Just click OK. The image is now its own layer.
Click at the bottom of the Layers panel on the Add Layer Mask icon.
This adds a rectangle next to the image in the Layers panel. This rectangle is the layer mask. Anything you put in this rectangle will hide parts of the image.
Make sure the four "corners" of the layer mask are chosen, NOT the four corners of the image. This means that what you are about to do will affect only the image. (Don't worry about screwing up your image. Your working on the mask, not the image.)
Now go and choose the Gradient tool from the Tools panel.
Now, take the Gradient tool and position it over the image. For the ghost image I showed at the top of this post, I put the tool in the center and then dragged down to the bottom of the image. Look carefully and you can see the little line to the right of the door.
Release the mouse. The image should be ghosted.
Now, look at the Layers panel. See how the rectangle for the layer mask goes from white to black? That's because you drew a gradient on the mask. And anywhere there was black, you can't see the image and anywhere there is white you can. And there is change in opacity as the rectangle goes from white to black.
I like to teach people that the layer mask is like a dirty window. Where the window is clean, you can see through it to see the image. Where the window is black, you can't see the image. And anything in between lets you see a percentage of the image.
If you want a different effect, you can change the gradient shape. With the gradient tool still chosen, go to the top of the window and choose another gradient. For instance, radial. Then drag on the image making sure the layer mask is still chosen in the Layers panel.
This will change the appearance of the layer mask and the effect on the image.
You can use gradients or brushes or anything on the layer mask. Just make sure it is chosen and not the image or you'll be screwing up the image, not the mask.

Help with large document please.

I'm using a MacPro 2 x 2.26 Xeon/6GB RAM/Radeon graphics card. For the 6th year I'm producing an A4 product catalogue for a client with mostly full page photographs on every page. This year it will have grown to 400 pages. I'm half way through and already the file is becoming a bit unwieldy with daily crashes and slow to load. Does anybody know if increasing the RAM would help or should I try to split the catalogue into smaller chunks and then join them up into a book. That's not something I've tried before so am not sure about the drawbacks. The client does have a habit of changing the page order quite a bit which might be a bit of a problem if I have to move between the smaller documents. Or am I wrong?
Any advice most welcome.

Thanks for your comments Peter. I think I'm at a stage where I can easily split a duplicate file into 10 or maybe 11 documents but I will need to reference 5 or 6 words on each page for the index. Hopefully that won't tax the system too much!

Help with Secured Documents!

I have been using the same files for over a year with no issues. Up until today I was able to edit them with no problems. All of a sudden when I go to use a document I receive an error message stating that
"The security settings on this document prevent adding text and/or placing a signature on it from Adobe Reader. To fill and sign this document you need to print it out"
We have not made any changes to the files or our reader since the last time I used it to cause this to occur. Also, when I try to open an unsecured version from the original source I get the same error message. Other people can open on their computers from the original source without receiving this notification so it HAS to be something within my computer. I just don't know how to correct it. please help asI need to be able to fill in these forms.
Oh, and I am using a PC with Windows 7.

Help with Resolution on External Monitor

I want to set my HP Envy 15t to drive an external monitor, not as an extension, but rather as my primary monitor. My external monitor is a Viewsonic VX2250, a little older, and requires that I use a HDMI-to-VGA adapter. (The Viewsonic also has DVI inputs...not sure it that would make a difference.) On my current tower setup, I use the monitor in its recommended (or native mode) setting of 1920x1080. I like this screen a lot.
The adapter is a Bytecc HM-VGA005 and the specs seem to suggest that it can handle a variety of video resolutions - Full HD (1080p), WUXGA (1920x1200 RB mode), and UXGA (1600x1200 VESA mode).
The 15t currently runs in the recommended resolution of 1366x768. If I understand the specs right, in HD mode it's 1366x768 and in FHD mode it's 1920x1080. The graphics card is an Intel HD Graphics 4600. Is this the reason that I can only get HD resolution and not FHD resolution on the laptop?
But whenever I plug all this together and try and change the laptop screen resolution settings, the external monitor only shows 1024x768...pretty lousy. I have it so that the laptop screen is dark and only the external monitor is on. But there doesn't seem to be any choices I can make to improve this resolution. I've checked to see that the graphics driver is up to date and it is.
What do I do to get the best screen I can on the external monitor? Would buying a new monitor with HDMI inputs achieve better results? Do I need a different adapter?

Me again! Well, it was a bit of the nut behind the wheel. I checked in with the store that I've been buying my cables, adapters, etc. He said to bring the Viewsonic monitor by to see what might be going on. As I was setting up, he asked about power to the adapter. I had the USB cable but didn't think it was needed. But after putting everything together in addition to power to the HDMI-VGA adapter, I could see I was getting the resolution that I was hoping for. Why it worked on the Dell monitor, no clue...maybe a better monitor or different VGA cable. The Bytecc adpater didn't come with any instructions, so I just didn't know.
All is well. Hope this helps someone in the future.
