Help with restoring Photoshop Elements 8 on a new hard drive on Mac

I had a new hard drive installed on my Mac, and I get an error message concerning the license for Elements 8 when I try to use it from the back up. I have gone to the website and tried all the fixes, and nothing works. I want to continue to use Bridge, which I hear is not totally compatible with Elements 120. How can I get a new license number or fix this problem?

Restoring the Elements 8 from the backup must had broke the licensing which can be fixed by re-installing.
You can follow the steps listed at http://forums.adobe.com/thread/981369 to initiate a direct download for PSE 8.

I entered Iphoto for my user and only photo up until 2012 were in the library.  I thought the restore would do the incremental Time Machine backups too.....

  • So I formatted a brand new hard drive to MAC OS (Journal), I then could save on the hard drive. Not two days later Im back at square one, the program wont recognize the hard drive again.

So, hard to beleive, but I am having some trouble with Final Cut Pro X.
This last week I formatted a brand new hard drive to MAC OS (Journal),
so that I could save on that hard drive.
    Well it went great.
I saved my project on there and copied a few others over as to free up space on my Laptop.
Then, not two days later Im back at square one,
the program wont recognize the hard drive.
It wont even open the events up off my hard drive,
as to jog the program into reqcognizing the scratch disk (which worked twice before).
    What happened?
How do I get the program to re-recongize my newly formatted hard drive?
    Please help!

The name of the drive, or the name of some folders inside the drive, may fool FCP X into believing it is a camera.
Also, you should not use the drive for time machine backups.

  • Please help!  Cannot access TC backups on new hard drive with Lion!

I know this seems like a generic posting, and believe me that I have searched through countless posts to find the situation most similar to mine.  To start, the basic story (I am pretty computer illiterate, so excuse the lack of terminology):
-My computer was working slow, beach balling, etc. two weeks ago - took to Apple Genius Bar for help and they suggested need for new hard drive. I already had a hard drive crash in January, but since I have had a Time Capsule running Time Machine since September 2009, I hooked it right up and restored from a backup with no issue... so I wasn't worried about this.  I waited to make sure that I had the most recent backup (and needed to use my computer for law school for a couple days), so I turned it in a day later immediately after a complete incremental backup via TM on my TC.
-Got my computer back from the Apple "depot" with new hard drive and hard drive cable.
-Had an extremely hard time getting my TC to link to my computer and via AppleCare phone help, realized that Apple had given me back my computer with Leopard, and they said that I needed to go back to the store to get a Lion reinstall since the backups had been done in Lion.
-Went back to Apple store, reinstalled Lion... they told me there would be no issue once I got home and hooked up to TC.  Connected to TC via ethernet and went through "set up" procedure as if it was new computer - could never get past the "Select the Disk" page.  Either it was beach-balling or just sitting there, and I couldn't click continue or anything.
-Called AppleCare again, they said to try it through Migration Assistant instead of Set Up... again, could not connect to TC.  They said it was too complicated to do over the phone and sent me back to the store...
-By now, I am on vacation and spent 5, yes FIVE, hours at another store trying to migrate the data to no avail.  I obviously don't know everything they tried, but I know they tried installing each operating system since Leopard, going through set up and migration assistant, and doing a disk repair of the TC.  None of this worked.  Every single time my TC connects and you can see the title of the drive ("Data") and the two separate backups ("emilysmac" was my old computer and "emilysmacbookpro" was the dummy one we tried to make).  Emilysmacbookpro was accessible with no data on it, but once we clicked on emilysmac it just said "connecting" forever and never did anything.
    Basically:
-300GB of my TC shows that it has been used, so I know something is there.
-I can also pull up the data on another computer, and it shows files dated from September 2009 up to the date I last updated, but they do not look how they used to - they are "Unix Executable" files and cannot open through Time Machine.
I have a really hard time thinking that my TC AND my computer hard drive failed at the same time - which is actually what Apple suggested to me.  Is there anything that anyone knows that will help?!  I am desperate here!  This TC had backups of all my music, pictures and law school work over the past 2.5 years.  Any help would be much appreciated!

PS I have also looked through Pondini's site, but I am not sure if I am missing something since I don't totally understand all of it.  Thanks again!

  • I need help re-installing my OS on a new hard drive. Having MAJOR issues with this simple task.

I have a MacBook Pro 15" (mid 2009) I recently needed to get a new hard drive for it, the old one stopped working. It came with OS X Snow Leopard already installed from Apple, and it also came with the install disks. I have booted up using the install disks and put OS X Snow Leopard back on the computer.
I tried booting with a USB install disk of OS X Lion (10.7) but had no luck on multiple occasions. It would only get through the initial step of the install and then say it couldn't download additional components needed for OS X
So finally, I decided to try a full erase and reformat of my brand new hard drive (less than a week old) and stated with the basic software that came with the computer. Installing that worked fine, until I tried to do a software update through the built in program. My computer refused to download 10.6.8 from the apple servers, so I had to find it on a 3rd party website. Once I found it and downloaded it, I finally got it installed. There were 12 more updates after I did 10.6.8 and none of them worked when I tried downloading and installing as a group. I had to do each one individually, the last one being a security update.
Up to this point, the Mac App Store didn't work (even after the 10.6.8 update), I couldn't download any of my previous purchases. I needed to download lion, to see if having it on the Mac hard drive itself would help with the install, but I couldn't do that until after the security update.
Other than that, the Mac worked normally except for during each start up, the apple logo would flash along with the forbidden sign and the folder with a question mark on it. It flashed for a few seconds randomly, then would boot up normally or say that my computer would need to be restarted.i figured this issue would be fixed after I successfully installed lion.
FINALLY I got the App Store to download lion, and began the install process. Halfway through the install, it failed and when I tried to restart the computer, it continuously flashes through those three symbols at startup. I can't get it to do anything else. I'm so ****** off I'm ready to just sell it for parts.
    My questions are:
          1. Can I install OS X Lion OR OS X Mountain Lion clean from the start after a full format of the hard drive?
          2. How do I go about installing clean and get my computer to stop flashing those symbols during start up?
*I have performed the Apple Hardware extended test and all systems are reporting normal function*

Okay, so, fast forward from July to now -
    - I've visited my closest Apple store's genius bar twice now. (Over an hour and a half away.)
    - My computer spent at least 8 hours behind their closed doors in the workshop
    - Several complete erases of the harddrive have taken place
    - Most of the Apple geniuses I dealt with were nice and very knowledgeable, but they were and still aren't 100% sure exactly what is wrong with my computer.
    The good news is:
    - They were able to at least get it running again, with a clean install from their servers of OS X Lion 10.7.5
    - They believe that my problems stem from either 1 of 2 things:
            - Faulty Hard Drive (even though it is brand new)
             - The wrong build of software being installed.
Now, while the wrong build does seem like it could be the problem, it doesn't make sense in the aspect that all of the initial problems began when the first hard drive failed. The same problems continued when I changed out the failed hard drive with the brand spanking new one, and only slightly improved when I was able to successfully install the OS that came with the original disks for my computer. I'm not convinced this thing is back to normal, but hopefully I can make it last through getting a shiny new retina Macbook Pro in the coming future. Thank you so much to everyone who read and replied to this post!

  • How can I deactivate Photoshop Elements 5.0 on hard drive that will not boot?

I have Elements 5.0 loaded on a hard drive which will no longer boot. I have a new hard drive and can access the old drive as an extra internal hard drive. I cannot use Photoshop, so I was thinking I need to deactivate the copy loaded on the old hard drive and reload it on the new hard drive. Is this the best solution? If so, how do I deactivate? When I start up the editor, it does not have an option for deactivating as I read about in another post. Under the help menu, there is a grayed out option for Registration. After a few seconds, a window appears saying there is a problem with my serial number and the application closes.  Also, I would like to load Photoshop on a laptop later, so I do not want to waste one of my allowable loads. I would appreciate any help.

Yes, as long as you don't have it on more than two computers at once you're in compliance with the license. (Back in the days of PSE 5 adobe worked more on the honor system.)

  • How to restore my Skype onto my new hard drive

My new computer had to have a new hard drive installed.  I lost my Skype logo to get onto Skype.  I am having trouble getting it re-installed onto my computer.  What do I do to get it back operational?

    Hello Jayrajjpatel,
It sounds like you have a Time Machine backup on an external drive that you would like to use to restore your computer. The following article will help you get that done, named:
OS X Mavericks: Recover your entire system
    http://support.apple.com/kb/PH14185
If you’re restoring your system because of a problem with your startup disk, repair or replace the disk before following these instructions.
Make sure your Time Machine backup disk is connected and turned on. If your disk is on a network, make sure your Mac is on the same network.
Choose Apple menu > Restart. Once your Mac restarts (and the gray screen appears), hold down the Command (⌘) and R keys.
Select “Restore from a Time Machine Backup,” then click Continue.
    Do one of the following:
External backup disk: Select it, then click Continue.
Time Capsule: Choose your network from the AirPort menu on the right side of the menu bar, and then select your Time Capsule and click “Connect to Remote Disk.”
Network backup disk: Select it, then click “Connect to Remote Disk.”
If necessary, enter the name and password you use to connect to your backup disk, then click Connect.
Select the date and time of the backup you want to restore, then follow the onscreen instructions.
After you restore your system, Time Machine may perform a full backup at the next scheduled backup time. This is normal. Time Machine resumes incremental backups after the full backup is completed.
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
    All the very best,
    Sterling

  • Restoration of Lenovo T500 to new hard drive using Rescue & Recovery

I bought a new hard drive and I have been having a frustrating time trying to migrate the image of my hard disk to the new drive. When I bought my T500, it came with Windows Vista Business 64, but I have since downgraded it to Windows XP Pro.
Up to now, I was faithfully using Norton Ghost 14 to back up my drive to my USB Western Digital MyBook Mirror Edition 1TB drive. However, I get errors when I try to restore the image to my new drive (and I will be posting that issue to Norton's forum).
While I have not completely given up on Norton Ghost, I decided I might be able to restore the image using the Rescue & Recovery software. I downloaded and installed R&R 4.21.0016.00. After I installed it, I backed up my system to the MyBook Mirror Edition.
I then shut down the computer and put in the new hard drive (a Western Digital Scorpio Black WD5000BEKT). I used a disc that I burned from the ThinkVantage Create Recovery Media utility to boot the machine. While the environment loads just fine, it does not detect my USB hard drive. NOTE: I didn't make my USB drive bootable, I only stored the backup files there.
I tried going into the PC Doctor utility and discovered that there is an "unidentified" USB device under the mouse section, which I presume is the MyBook.
I have hunted high and low for an answer to this both on Lenovo and Western Digital's web sites, but I can't seem to come up with a reason why my drive is not visible to R&R, or a way to load the WD drivers into this recovery environment. I found http://forum.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkVantage-Technologies/Rescue-and-Recovery-does-not-recognize-USB-driv..., and I followed the instructions - there is a minus sign next to the USB boot device in the bios. However, saving the bios and rebooting the computer (as the post suggested) does nothing to change that setting.
I have tried upgrading the bios to the latest version, but still no luck detecting the USB drive.
I am thinking about resorting to buring a backup of my entire system to DVDs and then restoring using the DVD drive. However, since my current backup is 60GB, I imagine that will take 15 discs.
Whether that fixes my immediate problem or not (that is, transferring to my new drive), I still don't have an answer for a long term solution in case of hard drive failure. Ghost is not working with my current configuration. And if I use R&R for backup, it will do me no good if I cannot get it to connect to my USB drive to recover. Furthermore, as far as I can tell there is no way to burn an existing restoration point to DVD - meaning I would have absolutely no way to restore if my hard drive failed.
I have been working on this migration for 3 full days already, and since I had my system images backed up I thought that this would be a trivial task. Any suggestions at this point would be welcomed.

I'm experiencing the same problem. I wanted to restore single files from an USB disk. Two larger file (500MB each) went through that process quite fast (3 minutes). A folder with many small files takes forever.
What's strange is that my notebook hard drive is at 100% activity all the time, while the USB disk is hardly read.

  • Question with installing operating system to my new hard drive

I just ordered a new hard drive for my macbook.  I've had no problems finding how to take out the old one and install the new one into my computer, but I can't seem to find information on how to install osx onto the my computer again.  Is it as simple as putting in the osx disks or are there others steps that need to be taken for the macbook to recognize my new hard drive?

Drive Preparation and OS X Installation
    1. Boot from your OS X Installer Disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button.  When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu.
    2. After DU loads select your hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Note the SMART status of the drive in DU's status area.  If it does not say "Verified" then the drive is failing or has failed and will need replacing.  SMART info will not be reported  on external drives. Otherwise, click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
    3. Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed.
    4. Select the volume you just created (this is the sub-entry under the drive entry) from the left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
    5. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Security button, check the button for Zero Data and click on OK to return to the Erase window.
    6. Click on the Erase button. The format process can take up to several hours depending upon the drive size.
    7. Quit DU after formatting has completed. Install OS X.
    8. Restore your files from your backup or put your old drive into an external enclosure so you can restore from your old drive.

  • Trouble Restoring Compaq Presario C762NR After New Hard Drive

I installed a new hard drive in the laptop and bought the recovery disks. The recovery runs for hours and then fails. It gave me a whole list of (Pass/Fail) items and it seems that the only part that failed had to do with .systemlogs
I wish I could just copy and paste the message but I can't. The error did not give any codes. My friend can't afford a new computer at this time and I was really hoping I could fix this one. Is there any solution? Is there a way to copy and paste the error report to make this easier?
    Thank you

If the original operating system is changed to a non-Windows 7 OS, or if the PC cannot access the Windows desktop, or the Recovery Manager cannot be started by selecting the f11 key on startup, you can use either the personalized recovery disc that you created, or you can order a replacement recovery disc from HP to start the PC and restore the hard drive to its original operating condition.
NOTE:Performing the recovery process using the personalized recovery disc that you created may take less than an hour. Using replacement discs ordered directly from HP may take four to six hours and includes several restarts.
If the HP Recovery Manager on the disc can access the hard drive, it will attempt to repair the recovery partition. If successful, a prompt is displayed to continue running the recovery using the Recovery Manager on the hard drive. If the program on the hard drive cannot be repaired, continue using the recovery disc in the optical disc drive.
Use the recovery disc to restore the PC by following the steps below.
Insert the recovery disc in the optical disc drive and start the computer.
If the computer is running, insert the recovery disc and immediately click Start and select Restart to force the computer to start from the recovery disc.
When prompted, Press any key to boot from CD or DVD, press any key on the keyboard.
Allow the recovery disc to start and load the required files while the Microsoft loading screen is displayed. It may take several minutes to load the required files.
When the HP Recovery Manager window displays, click System recovery .
Follow the on-screen instructions and perform the required actions.
NOTE:Do not interrupt the recovery process even though the computer may restart, or the Windows desktop may display, or the process may appear to pause for several minutes at various times.
When prompted, follow the on-screen instructions to back up the user files.
After performing the backup, when prompted, re-insert the recovery disc, and then click Next to continue the recovery process.
A status box is displayed to indicate the status of the recovery and the estimated time remaining.
If you used multiple discs when you created the personalized recovery discs, follow the prompts to remove the first disc and insert any requested discs.
When prompted to Insert the Supplemental driver disc , take one of the following actions:
If you purchased a replacement recovery disc from HP, and it included a Supplemental driver disc, insert the disc and click OK or Next . The recovery program checks the supplemental disc and installs the specific needed files.
After the Supplemental files are installed, a prompt is displayed to remove the Supplemental disc and insert the original recovery disc.
If you purchased a replacement recovery disc from HP, and it did not include a Supplemental driver disc, click Skip or Cancel . The recovery program will ignore the request and install the next file on the recovery disc.
If you created a personal recovery disc, press Next to continue.
Continue following the on-screen instructions to complete the recovery process.

Did you reinstalled iTunes ? It looks like you had a newer version of iTunes with the corresponding database, and now your iTunes seem to be an older version. If you are a little patient, you might easily fix this with iTunes 10.5 which should come out very very soon since iOS 5 has been annonced for tomorrow.
