Help with running windows os on macbook

I have intuit for windows and wand to access those files on my macbook I was told I could by buying paralells for macbook but now I do not know what to do next any ideas?

Your mileage may vary due to differences in Mac OS X system version in use.
To search and compare notes may be of some help, also there is VM Fusion as an option, not sure what one may be better. Also, the amount of RAM installed in your computer and hard disk drive free space will make a difference in performance of either one, Parallels or Fusion.
https://www.google.com/#q=Mac+OS+X+Parallels
Or if you have a correct retail version of Windows, you could use Bootcamp to partition the Mac HDD so as to run a boot version of Windows, a second operating system. If you do that, then consider windows-grade AV protection software only for the windows system partition. Not needed in virtual system that would be running in a window within OS X.
Since I have used neither virtualization, we can hope you will get more replies to the Parallels question.
Good luck & happy computing!

  • Need help with loading Windows 7 onto Macbook Pro - Bootcamp and parallels

    Hi,
I have a windows PC and changing over to a Mac. I purchased today Parallels and Microsoft Office for Mac in order to use them on the MacBook.
Also please note - I need to use Bootcamp for some programs that I need to use - and then also be able to use parallels.
Where I am up to at the moment is - since there is no disc drive on the laptop where I can insert the disc - I have gone onto my PC and downloaded the Windows 7  usb/dvd download tool setup - however I dont know where I find the ISO file for Windows 7? So if someone could help me with that.
Alternatively - can someone please let me know if I can just pay and download Window 7 for Mac - and then run it through boot camp etc. If someone can please give me some advice on this - and also a handy step by step guide on how to achieve it.
Thank you so much in advance for your help!!!! I really appreciate it!
    K

Thanks Clinton  - When I went into Apple store today, I told him about the programs my husband needs to use for a CBUS course. The guy there said his room mate has done the same thing and cannot use parallels for the programs they need to run (it doesnt seem to work properly) so he is using boot camp to run them and it works fine. So I am wanting to run Boot camp first and then once the course is finished run everything through parallels.
So I have gone into Boot Camp - and because there is no Disc drive I cannot insert the disc - so I have gone back onto the PC to put windows onto a USB to then use with Bootcamp. I just cannot find the ISO file path for Windows.
I hope this all makes sense!
I am thinking I maybe i will buy the windows ISO file instead of trying to hunt it down on the PC. Do you think this is the best way to do it?

  • I need to run windows in my Macbook

    Hello,
I need to run Windows in my Macbook.
So I know I need to get Parallels or VM Fusion.
What I don't know is how do I get a windows program and which one? I checked and there are SP2 and SP2 ORM? Which one I need?
    Thanks
    ZK

Hi ZK and welcome to Discussions,
the OEM (not ORM) version of Windows XP with SP2 will work just fine with either Parallels, VMWare Fusion or Apples BootCamp.

  • I am trying to run windows on a MacBook Pro using bootcamp.

Can anyone help? I am trying to run windows 7 on my MacBook Pro, 17 inch late 2011,
    Mac OS X Lion 10.7.5
Intel HD Graphics 3000 384 MB
    This what I've done
I used disk utility to format a 8g flash drive in MS-DOS (FAT) format. Then I went on the microsoft site and made sure I was downloading the correct system for my Mac, using the correct bootcamp (4). I went with the 32 bit. I then purchased the full .iso windows 7 32 bit. I downloaded it and saved it to the previous flash drive. I went into bootcamp and downloaded the support software to the same USB flash drive. Then I ticked the box in bootcamp that says install windows 7, i partitioned the hard drive 40G windows and click install. The error message is that the disk can't be found. ok, not using a disk, but when I go back into my USB flash drive it says bootable :no. I hope this all makes sense to someone and you can help.
How can I make this USB bootable so bootcamp can install it? Where did I go wrong? Please be very step by step as I'm new at this.

  • How can i run Windows on a macbook Pro

    Hello
I am close to a business decission to use in future a MACBook Pro with Retsina Display
For Business reasons i have to be able to run also Winodws in a Virtual machine as some company internal applications need Windows
Which program would i use here on the newest MAC-OS
I want to use for private the MAC-OS and run Windows in a virtual environment to avoid Dual boot
Is the winodws Machine from Network, Printer drivers and all other transparent to the network?
bluetooth and other ports transparent supported in Windows?
any restrictions you may know on such environment
What versions of Windows are supported in such a virtuell environment?
Can i run Outllook from Microsoft in MAC-OS ?
Thanks very much for the answers

I second jopilkie's recommendation for Parallels. I've been using Parallels for years - currently using Windows 7 Pro 64-bit with MS Office 2013, a ton of Adobe apps, etc. I use it primarily for Office, Adobe Acrobat Pro, Adobe LiveCycle Designer and a few other apps that aren't available for OS X.
The answer is 'yes' to most of your questions - your network, printing, scanning, Bluetooth, DVD drive(s), external and internal hard drives, etc. can be accessed both in the Windows environment as well as OS X. And you can run Outlook either in on the Mac side or on the Windows side (personally, I signed up for Office 365 - $100 a year and you can install Office on up to 5 machines) - I use Outlook 2013 on the Windows side for three of my email accounts and Outlook 2011 on the Mac side for an additional 3 email accounts: it's nice to keep things separate that way!
I would recommend running Windows 7 - 64-bit, but whichever 'flavor' you prefer. Personally, Pro works just fine for my needs.
But beware Office 2013 on the Windows side - it really takes some familiarity until you become accustomed to it! Too much like Windows 8, but I'm getting used to it...
Call back if you've other questions.
    Good luck,
    Clinton

  • Running windows 7 on macbook pro lion

Hi, I just updated computers to a macbook pro with lion. Is there anyway to dual boot and run windows 7? If so, could someone please explain to me how to install windows 7?

Doesn't have to be a retail copy.  It can be a TechNet ISO or similar legal copy that you burned to a DVD.
The "Boot Camp Assistant" App in Lion will walk you thru the process.

  • Help with running bonjour

I can't get bonjour to run on my computer. I have tried uninstalling, installing the previous version and downloading bonjour for windows from apple. The service starts normally and is running but the IE plugin shows "bonjour service not available", running the printing wizard shows the same. I ran the dns-sd which shows
    c:\>dns-sd -V
    DNSServiceGetProperty failed -65537
    c:\>dns-sd -I
    Registering Service Test.testtxt.tcp.local.
    DNSService call failed -65537
I have itunes 8 installed, haven't found the need to use bonjour before so would usually uninstall it. Don't know much about bonjour, tried searching the forums but couldn't come up with anything. Can anyone help with this?

I get into the same situation consistently after switching the network connection from Ethernet LAN to Wireless LAN. The only fix I know of is to restart the PC.

  • Disconnect sound when running windows 7 on macbook pro 15"

First of all, here are some of my computer specifications:
         Using macbook pro 15"
         Mountain Lion OS X
         Windows 7
When I use windows 7, I occasionally here the disconnect sound as if I'm removing something from the USB port.  This happened more frequently this evening when I switched from using the mac operating system to the windows operating system using bootcamp.  I have had my computer for a month, and this has just recently started happening.  I have run upgrades for both the mac side and the windows side on the 24th of October.  I take good care of my computer and have not done anything to cause harm to the USB ports.  Please help.

I have exactly the same Macbook Pro as yours but mine has the matte screen. I bought mine in September 2006 but it is classed by Apple as the 'early 2006' Macbook Pro because they released the 'late 2006' Macbook Pro in October 2006, a few weeks after I bought mine :@. As I said in my post, http://discussions.info.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2307301&tstart=0 , Windows 7 is working fine on my Macbook Pro, so it should work on yours. Good luck!

  • Please help with reinstalling Windows 8 on the U410 touch!

    Hello,
I've recently dropped my U410 touch laptop from a small height, but it landed unfortunately and the hard drive was running, which eventually lead to its failure. After getting this hard drive replaced, I ordered the recovery disks in order to reinstall the Windows 8 OS on my machine.
Here is the problem I encountered: the U410 touch does not have a CD drive and thus I cannot insert the recovery disks in the device. I have access to my old laptop and I have been trying for the past few days to connect the two, ( with an Ethernet cable) in order  to be able  to use the CD drive of my old laptop.
    What I have done already:
    - repaired my hard drive
    - allowed access privileges to everyone on my old laptop CD drive
-recovered the Lenovo recovery disk for my specific model and Windows OS
    - tried numerous times ( to no avail) to get the cd working for my new laptop
What I would really appreciate help with:
    - instructions how to connect my old CD drive to my newer laptop
    - launch the recovery sequence from the CD drive of my old laptop
Any help would be really appreciated,
I am quite lost with this.
    Thank you, for your time.

  • Need help with HP Window 7 computer

    Hey everyone,
My mother is visiting me at a location that doesn't have a best buy too close by and her computer keeps blue screening whenever she lets it idle longer than 5 minutes. We are tryiing to figure out how to temporarily fix this issue till she flies home and can take her computer in to a Geek Squad. She does her schooling online so if anyone has experienced something like this before with their computer and knows a way to temporarily correct the issue I would really appreciate the help.
The laptop computer she has an HP Pavillion Entertainment PC and runs Windows 7. Her spyware is Spysweeper and the computer is about 2 years old.

Or you could try shutting off hibernation, sleep, and anything like that in the power options so that it runs all the time, both on battery and on power cord. See if it still does it. Don't know what good disabling start up items are going to do you in this case.

  • Is the current MacBook more reliable running Windows than a MacBook Pro?

I have a newish Santa Rosa/Penryn based MacBook Pro. Unfortunately, I have to run some apps under Windows and am running XP most of the time. However, the MacBook Pro has proven to be a poor choice for this. I get a Windows Blue Screens of Death on a frequent basis (more frequent than I ever seen on any non-Apple notebook). Burning DVDs take almost 30 minutes now (it used to take 10 minutes). The wifi drops constantly. Audio glitches most of the time. It is really frustrating and has only gotten worse with time and updated drivers.
I have a MacBook for work that I run MacOS (and the OS from my employer) on and it seems to work more nicely that my MacBook Pro.
Does the MacBook run Windows XP more reliably that the MacBook Pro?

In this context, I think Kappy was suggesting that "defective" meant that your
XP had either not installed correctly or the installation had become corrupted.
I know it's a complete pain and would waste at least a day, but I'd be tempted
to reformat the Boot Camp partition and try installing again from the Win XP CD.
The BSOD issue with the MBP has been present since early on and reported by others as well. The problem is with the Apple supplied driver(s). (I have run diagnostic tools that point to the wifi driver being part of the problem, but not the entire problem. I suspect that there might also be an issue with the touchpad driver, but I haven't run any tests to verify that.) I just don't get the sense that Apple has much motivation to fix the problem(s). The nature of the BSOD problem (as reported by the BSOD) is something that could lead to the other problems that I have observed.
I have had my MBP for a few months with no sign from Apple that the issue is being addressed. The MBP is a great machine, but unless someone ports all of the apps that I need to MacOS X, I need to run Windows better than it does.
So, any more reports on how well XP runs on a MacBook?

  • Help with running multiple threads

I'm new to programming with threads. I want to know how to run
multiple threads at the same time. Particularly for making games
in Java which I'm also begining to learn. For running multiple
threads at the same time, do you have to put two run() methods
in the source? If not then how do you make two threads or more
    run at the same time?
    Thanks for helping.

    For running multiple
threads at the same time, do you have to put two run()
    methods
    in the source? Hi there,
Each thread is presumably performing a task. You may be performing the same task multiple times or be performing different tasks at once. Either way, each task would typically be contained within the run() method of a class. This class would either be a subclass of java.lang.Thread (extends Thread) or would be an implementation of java.lang.Runnable (implements Runnable). In either case, you would define a method with signature (public void run()...). The difference comes into play when you wish to actually perform one of these tasks. With a subclass of Thread, you would simply perform:
    new MyTask().start();
With an implementation of Runnable, you would do this:
    new Thread(new MyTask()).start();
This assumes you don't need to monitor the threads, won't be sending any messages to your tasks or any such thing. If that were the case, you would need to tuck away those returns to new MyTask() for later access.
In order to launch two threads simultaneously, you would have something along the lines of:
    new MyTask().start();
    new MyOtherTask().start();
Now it is perfectly possible that MyTask() would complete before MyOtherTask() managed to start in which case it wouldn't appear as if you had actually had multiple threads running, but for non-trivial tasks, the two will likely overlap. And of course, in a game, these tasks would likely be launched in response to user input, which means that you wouldn't have any control over when or in what order they executed.
Anyhow, it's as simple as that. You should also consider following the Java Threading trail which shows a simple example of using multiple threads. You can find it at:
    http://java.sun.com/docs/books/tutorial/essential/threads/index.html

    Lynn

    toz,
We love seeing pro-active thinking here at the Discussions! You're off to a great start!
And you've pretty well got the right idea of what has to be done. A few points to make things go a bit smoother, though.
..i was going to track down all my mp3's on my hard drive, (about 3 gigs worth), and then just copy them over to my .."my music.itunes", folder, and then when i have reinstalled my pc, just copy that back to the "my music" folder....will this work.
It probably would work but fortunately there's an easier method. Use the iTunes Advanced menu > Consolidate Library... command and iTunes will automatically find all the songs in your music library that are not currently in the iTunes Music folder, make copies of them and then put them into that folder (along with any songs that are already there).
With that out of the way, there are two main ways to make the back-up copies of your library. The one this article in the Apple Knowledge Base describes in detail is burning CD's/DVD's. That will take care of the music itself but if, as you say, you want to keep your playlists (and the information they depend on) intact, you will also have to make back-up copies of the iTunes Library files . That link tells you where to find them.
The other approach to creating your back-up is to use any spare hard drive you happen to have available and simply copy the iTunes folder (which happens to contain the iTunes Music folder and the iTunes Library files). Some of our Discussions regulars are quite fond of this method .
Once you've made your decision and successfully backed up your Library, restoring the music in iTunes onto your newly-formatted hard drive will be fairly straightforward but it will depend on which method you select. So post back and let us know how you're going to proceed as well as any other questions you may have.
