Help with saving movie with best quality and smallets size. PLEASE

I need to know how to save my movies with the best quality and the smallest file size. I'll be posting primarily to the web, so I need to keep my file sizes to a minimum, yet I want to retain as best quality as I can. ANY assistance is greatly appreciated!

Flash video is becoming popular because you can have a player embedded
in your web page that will stream video that will play on nearly any
browser without additional plug-ins. You can get decent quality at a
decent size.

  • InDesign Transparency Effects - Problems with Image Quality and File Size

    Hello,
    We are experiencing new problems exporting InDesign files to PDF.
    To summarize, though our largest workflow is to create files for offset printing, we also deliver our work to PDF for mounting on a website so our clients can download directly from the web. Our new problem is Transparency Effects, and creating a PDF that will both have a high quality (or resolution), and be a small file size.
    We are working with multiple page documents (24 to 48 pages), and would very much like to work with InDesign Transparency Effects. However, after spending much time testing a variety of PDF types, we are finding there is a radical difference between quality and file size. I was curious if anyone has had these problems, and if there is a simple answer. InDesign is an incredible program that allows us to design on the fly with Transparency Effects, but, if we are going to experience these problems, we will have to eliminate these wonderful tools.
    Can you help me or lead me to information online that will help.
    Thank you,
    Lain

    Please don't post in multiple forums. Your question has nothing to do with the PDF language and specifications, but rather PDF workflow or InDesign. I've responded to your other posting and am closing this thread.

  • Saving movies in good quality and small filesize.

    As far as i can tell the only formats you can save a movie in imovie hd are either huge in filesize or really bad in quality. The solution i've come up with is to "share" the movie in full quality, which with an 8 min video makes a file bigger than 1gb. I take that file and convert it to mp4 with a program called MoviePod( find on versiontracker.com), and then i have a file of about 40mb which actually looks good even if i view it in fullscreen on my "15. Anybody have any other tips about this stuff, or have actually figured out how to get decent file sizes directly from imovie hd? By the way, are the more advanced video-editing programs from Apple any more flexible when it comes to this?
    cheers.

    By the way, are the more advanced video-editing programs from Apple any more flexible when it comes to this?
    those and iMovie rely mostly on the Quciktime engine, which cares for all kind of media on a Mac system...

    you're confronted to this dialog:
    it offers in the drop-down menu all QTrelated codecs, plus many of them offer "options" (size, bitrates, fps, ...)
    e.g. using 320x240, motionjpeg, 75% quality, 15fps will reduce your file size dramatically by keeping an acceptable quality (video+grafics)...
    .. and you'll find a mpeg4 codec too..
    but as you, I prefer the mpeg4 algorithm used in a 3rd party app, iSquint (relies on open source ffmpeg)
    or, you use the mpeg4 encoder as part of the 3ivx project.....
    Compressor, part of FCP/DVDSPsuite allows much more, elaborated options.. but =>$$$$

  • FCP Novice needs help with video quality and FCP 5!!

    Hi,
    I have a real problme that I cannot seem to fix. I think its because I am doing something really wrong!
    I have a Sony HC42E MiniDV Camcorder which by default records video in full widescreen. I recorded several tapes this way and have now begun trying to edit them in FCP 5.04 (Tiger 10.4.6). Whenever I log and capture my clips they appear to be fuzzzy and unclear on the Mac monitor whilst being totally crisp and sharp on the camcorder viewfinder. I tried capturing using the DV PAL 48Khz Anamorphic Preset which keeps everything the right size (the final output needs to be true widescreen and not with black bars added) but the resulting video on screen is blurry and bitty. I then tried capturing using the DV PAL 720 x 576 normal preset and the video is a little clearer on the screen (for both presets I have chosen lower field dominance) but when I play back it plays back in widescreen on the mac canvas window but at 4:3 on the camera's viewfinder.
    I then assumed that maybe this is just becuase the mac screen (CRT by the way) doesn't use fields. So I exported the sequence as a QT movie using DV PAL 16:9 and used quicktime (OS9 Classic - my compressor has never worked because of the dreaded "unable to connect to baackground process" problem which I've never managed to correct) to convert it to MPEG2. When I import this as an asset into DVD Studio pro 4 and set the track size to 16:9 it comes through at the right aspect ratio. However it looks blurry on screen. Thinking that this will be fine on a TV I burned the disc - inserted it into my DVD player (a good one!) and watched it on my new 32" widescreen TV (a good one!) and the picture qualitty is poor. Its so much blurrier and bittier than the original footage looks when played through the camcorder's viewfinder!
    The final footaage looks like an old VHS recording that's a year or two old!
    Does anyone know how I can capture my footage in FCP with the maximum quality, edit it without quality loss and the export it for DVD again without such significant quality loss whilst all the time keeping it at proper 16:9 widescreen?
    Is there some presets I should be working to?
    I'm tearing my hair out! Help!

    Hi Guys,
    thanx for your replies.
    here's the latest:
    Brian, I followed your instructions and the DVD burned successfully. However the video quality of the dvd when viewed on my TV ('ve tried on all 3 of my tvs now) is still a lot poorer than the quicktime movie that was imported into DVDSP4. When I play the original QT Movie on my Mac CRT monitor it looks a little blurry and grainy because I guess its non interlaced however when viewed on an external Video monitor it looks great - very sharp.
    When I view the burned DVD on my television the picture quality looks like the non interlaced version of the original QT Movie that appeared on my Mac CRT and not the sharp interlaced (lower field) version that appeared on my external video monitor.
    Its almost like taking a sharp jpeg into Photoshop and applying a gaussian blur of about 0.3 followed by jepg compression compressing it down to 5% quality!
    I'm totally mystified. Can the conversion to Mpeg2 be removing all interlacing so that you get the less sharp computer monitor look? I just want the video on my final DVDs to be as good as the original source footage! I appreciate that along the way there might be loss of some quality but surely not that much?
    Does this make sense to you guys or am I still doing something very wrong?
    Robert: I have tried setting all manner of drives including a fresh external firewire HD with nothing on it (clean out of the box) but it doesn't seem to help.
    Brian: I tried the no network suggestion a few months back but I'm not sure if I got it right. At the moment I have broadband through an external speedtouch usb modem and am also connected (occasionally although not for the last 3 months) via a crossover cable to my PCs ethernet card. When I last tried the No Network solution I had immense trouble getting my internet to work again! Can you please help me by directing me to the best ay to do this while protecting my internet settings?
    any more help guys would be greatfully appreciated.

  • Help with URL Parameters and HTML DataSet please.

    Hello everybody!
    Looking at the example page: "Using URL Parameters to Control Data Regions", towards the bottom it gives an example of "Set by Product Name", from an XML DataSet using the following sample code:
        //Data set for the second example. var ds2 = new Spry.Data.XMLDataSet("../../demos/products/products.xml", "products/product");    //If the URL parameter 'product' has a value, set the XPath that includes a filter and then load the data. if (params.product){    ds2.setXPath("products/product[name = '"+params.product+"']");    ds2.loadData(); }
    Can anyone please explain how to amend this to work with a HTML Dataset rather than XML?
    The first example on the page (Set by RowID) works unchanged for the HTML DataSet, but I don't know what I should replace the 'setXPath' line with.
    I see this has been asked before, but I'm afraid I can't find any answer that works (or, more often, that I can understand properly!)
    Grateful for any suggestions.
    Len

    Wow! Thanks Ben.
    I hadn't thought about using Stacked Containers.
    I'll test this out tonight and let you know how I get on.
    Cheers,
    Len
    A few days later and at last I've been able to test your suggestions.
    I think I must be doing something wrong as the links and content don't work at all:
    http://www.myosanthe-bernhard-huber.com/html/stack1.php
    I know that the stacked containers do work (http://www.myosanthe-bernhard-huber.com/html/stack0.php), so I guess there are some errors in the coding somewhere.
    Would you mind reviewing, please?
    The important thing for me (in this case, anyway) is to get the called page's content using its 'Ref', and I'm not sure what benefit there is in using stacked containers as opposed to master-detail containers.
    The master-detail method works reasonably well for me at
    http://www.myosanthe-bernhard-huber.com/html/fotoalbum.php and sub-pages.
    Perhaps I am betraying my lack of knowledge, but as I said in my original post, I think that I just need the HTMLDataSet equivalent to:
        //Data set for the second example.
    var ds2 = new Spry.Data.XMLDataSet("../../demos/products/products.xml", "products/product");
       //If the URL parameter 'product' has a value, set the XPath that includes a filter and then load the data.
    if (params.product){
       ds2.setXPath("products/product[name = '"+params.product+"']");
       ds2.loadData();
    which as you can see uses an XMLDataSet, but does exactly what I need.
    (see http://labs.adobe.com/technologies/spry/samples/data_region/DataWithURLParams.html)
    Thanks again for your help, Ben.

  • Help with Wireless Keyboard and Mighty Mouse please!

    Hello. I own the wireless Mighty Mouse as well as the wireless keyboard for Mac, and while ago I set them up to work on my Mac, but I don't use them very much so I want to give them to my parents for their Mac. The thing is, I forgot how to set it up or install it or whatever. Can anyone tell me how to get the wireless mouse and keyboard to work, or what the install process is for them? Was there a CD that came with them that I need to install drivers with or something? Anyways, I have the mouse and keyboard sitting up here next to this computer, and I've turned them on with the switches on the back, but they're not working. What do I do next? Thank you!
    -- Andrew

    Solution
    Turn your Bluetooth keyboard and/or mouse off for 30 seconds, then back on.
    If the keyboard or mouse doesn't respond, or if an alert message appears again:
    Connect a USB keyboard or mouse.
    Open Bluetooth preferences (choose System Preferences from the Apple menu, then click Bluetooth).
    Verify that Bluetooth is turned on. (You can also do this with the Bluetooth menu bar item, if enabled).
    Pair the keyboard or mouse by setting it up as a new device.

  • Help with instantiating objects and validating them please

    Hello,
    im working on an assigment where i have to make a milk tank object that simulates a Milk tanker (one of those things that carrys milk :P)
    It has a specific constructor that you can pass the volume and capacity to it. I was wondering how i could validate this and make it so the object doesnt instantiate and maybe return an error message if the volume of milk exceeds the capacity of the milk tanker?
    basically i just want to make sure an object is valid while it instantiates, otherwise bomb out and return an error..
    Thank you,
    Phill
    PS: im still learning java so some stuff might be over my head, but ive got a book next to me to help me understand :) (yes, ive checked and i cant find anything on this subject)

    public MilkTanker(int volume, int capacity) throws
    InvalidArgumentException
    if (volume > capacity)
    throw new InvalidArgumentException("Volume can't be greater than >capacity");
    this.volume = volume;
    this.capacity = capacity
    }This means that while trying to create a new object of this class you need to handle a possible exception:
    public static void main (String [] args){
       try {
          MilkTanker tank = new MilkTanker(100, 1000);
       catch (InvalidArgumentException _){
          System.err.println(_.getMessage());
    }In the case that an exception is thrown the object of this class will not be created and every line of code you might have after the constructor call (inside the try clause) will not be executed.
    Hope that helped

  • What's the best setting to save  footage (.mov) to dvd/cd with best quality

    Hi, I'm editing a little movie that might be played later on tv/cinema. I 'm trying to keep/burn my footage into a lighter format but I can't guess which setting is the best. Would the setting be good enough? (also do I burn it on a dvd or data cd?...) Is somebody could help me? Thank you, Laurence
    (my footage were filmed with a 4 chip camera)

    If you have the camera to import into iMovie I don't understand why you can't send it back to tape. That will be the best quality and the fastest time.
    If your PowerBook doesn't have a DVD burner you could take the tape and camera to a friend that has a Mac and a DVD burner. Send the file to iMovie and then iDVD for burning.
    Once you export to a lower quality QuickTime file some of the quality will be lost forever. The tape would be identical to the iMovie version.
    There is no "best" export method because every file is different. I would use Movie to QuickTime movie, sized at 640X480 and select the H.264 video codec and Apple Loseless audio codec set at 48kHz stereo. Use the same frame rate as your source and a bit rate about 2,000.

  • Video sharing with best quality

    I am not sure if this is the right forum to post it.
    I am new to this technology/area of preparing video by getting best quality and no pains in viewing it over web.
    I am going to shoot mostly family events or kids activities.
    I am planning to buy a HD camcorder.
    But to get best quality while capturing the video/source, what to look for in camcorder and any preferences about the models in the market?
    After capturing the video at best quality, what are the next steps in preparing this for web delivery? What softwares/tools do i need to use to get the best video quality for sharing over web with out any pain (like buffering/slow start) while viewing?
    I am more concerned about sharing videos of best quality and I am OK to spend extra bucks to achieve this.
    Please suggest me or direct me to any source where i could get this information.
    Thanks, Eswar

    Eswar ~ The following is just one suggestion of many possible ways of delivering videos to the Web. Click on this link to see one of Apple's demo _MobileMe Gallery_ videos:
    http://gallery.me.com/emily_parker#100624
    ...at lower right of the video there is a fullscreen button you can click. That video was produced in _iLife '08_ iMovie s/w which allows it to be published in a wide range of sizes for optimal viewing on iPhone, Web, AppleTV, etc. See this video tutorial "_Sharing to MobileMe Gallery_".
    In iWeb, you can view a list of all the albums and movies in your MobileMe Gallery, and incorporate any of them in an iWeb page. Visitors can click to go directly to your MobileMe Gallery. See this _video tutorial_ — just over half-way through, where it says: +"To embed a MobileMe Gallery..."+
    MobileMe Gallery's maximum video resolution is 960x540. Alternative HD video sharing sites such as Vimeo support 1280x720. And according to this _comparison of video services_, also Dailymotion, YouTube and _HD share_. ...But with 1280x720, depending on their connection speed, some viewers may see buffering/slow start problems.
    Here's an example of an HD video on YouTube. ...Once on the page, click on "watch in HD" at lower right of the video and click the fullscreen icon. Another thing to consider is how powerful a CPU would be required on a PC or Mac to view 1280x720 video satisfactorily. Apple's MobileMe Gallery cap of 960x540 may be in regard to this, together with connection speed considerations.
    But to get best quality while capturing the video/source, what to look for in camcorder and any preferences about the models in the market?
    I don't have any specific recommendations, but one thing to consider is that Apple, like camcorder manufacturers, appears to be moving away from Firewire connectivity and towards USB connectivity — so you may want to concentrate your search for camcorders with that in mind. Let me... Well, see for yourself by clicking here.

  • Please help with RTAV files and Telecini import

    Hello,
    I am trying to archive old 16mm films. I purchased a telecini and i am importing in to a Panasonic DVD video recorder and burning on to DVD. I am not sure this is important. The challenge I have is that when I put the DVD in my Powerbook g4 it opens the DVD and reads as a RTAV file. When I open the RTAV file the file is empty. I have never experienced this before and I don't even know what an RTAV file is. Please excuse my ignorance if this is basic.
    The second question I have is....I would like to import from the telecini directly in to Imove. My powerbook does not recognize the telecini which I expected. I think I need software to recognize the telecini and bridge to Imovie. Any suggestions?
    Thanks!!!
    Carla

    welcome Carla to the  iMovie boards..
    your question stumbles into some hurdles.. :
    The Panasonic dvd-corder is one of the rare devices, which allow aside the 'standard' dvd-r/w usage of socalled DVD-Ram.. which creates RTAV files.. and which are NOT readable by your Mac (=empty) ..
    so, to solve your rtav problem, use 'normal' dvd-r/+r/-rw or +rw .. (I like re-writable disks for 'transport' issues.. after transfer, erase and re-use them) ...
    I guess, your telecini (cozy name ) device offers an analogue output.. if you have a manufacturers site url, post it here, maybe we find some additional info .. if so, you need a converter device, whch converts from analogue to digital.. there are some devices, Canopus, EyeTV which are supported by iM ...
    finally: I would let do the conversion by some professional service, which allows 'transfer' to miniDV .. best quality and best compatibility..
    ahh, forgot to mention: and if you use dvd-r in your Panasonic instead of DVD-Ram, to convert such stuff, the usual reply is....... :
    DVDs are in a socalled delivery format (mpeg2), which isn't meant and made for any processing as editing...
    for using the iLife apps, you have to convert'em first, in recommended order, choose one of the following tools/workarounds:
    DVDxDV (free trial, 25$, Pro: 90$)
    Apple mpeg2 plugin (19$) + Streamclip (free)
    VisualHub (23.32$)
    Drop2DV (free, requires installation of ffmpeg parts, google for it...)
    Cinematize >60$
    Mpeg2Works >25$ + Apple plug-in
    Toast 6/7/8 allows converting to dv/insert dvd, hit apple-k
    connect a miniDV Camcorder with analogue input to a DVD-player and transfer disk to tape/use as converter

  • Where's the music on iTunes, and what's with the quality and compatibility?

    I'm just curious as to whether anyone else has had this issue or not: Does anyone else feel like, after searching for specific songs, there's just little to nothing in the database? I feel like most of my searches are pointless because iTunes has either no data of my requested search and/or only has bits and pieces of it.
    Another question I have: After having a slightly successful search, why am I left with low quality tunes? I mean, you can hear the compression... badly. (I know it's not my speakers)
    Last question: If I'm paying for the song, shouldn't I be allowed to download a universal file? iTunes uses a unique format that no other application uses. In other words, more money has to be spend for m4a to mp3 converters (unless you're a cracker [not a racial comment]).
    To me, I value iTunes and its team, so I'm sorry if I've offended anyone. I understand there are contracts involved with the artists and it's hard to please ALL of the subscribers. But seriously, where's the music on iTunes, and what's with the quality and compatibility?

    Today I thought of finally putting lyrics on my songs. So I've been quite some time busy doing that, then I tried it on my iPad (2) and I can't find them. Just as the people above say. Then I went to search where I can find them and I found this page. I'm really dissapointed and I don't understand how something like this could happen. So I hope Apple will fix this soon.
