HELP WITH SCREEN-SAVER FILE CONVERSION

Hello;
I have a family member (sister) who does web design and animation on her mac, but she has had a hard time finding a program or utility that would allow her to convert a mac screen saver to a windows screen saver.
She is familiar with the "iScreensaver" program, but that is very expensive, and she was hoping there might be a more basic mac utility to get the job done.
Does anyone here know of a reasonably priced mac program or utility that would allow conversion of a screen saver from mac to windows format? Your help is much appreciated.
Thanks,
Damon
Ps.
She is on an eMac 800 chip machine, running Tiger.
Dual 2.5 Ghz PowerPC G5

Thanks;
Think my sis was looking for a program that would not expire. But thanks.
Blessings,
Damon

  • Help with screen saver/sleep?

All right guys...this may be a very stupid question, but I cannot figure it out. I do not know how to prevent the system from "blacking out"(?). I'm not sure what the term is, but it's when it just shuts the computer down after it is idle for a while. I want to disable that so it's just running for a while, preferably so I remain connected to the internet for longer periods of time.
How do I disable the "Black Out"?
    Thanks!

Open your Energy Saver, where your battery and charge indicator are on your menu bar, and you can make the machine sleep or not, shut down or not, whenever you want.

  • Adding Photos to Mac Screen saver files

    Hi,
I'd like to add some additional photos to the "Cosmos" screen saver file that came with my MacBook Pro but I can't find this file through Finder in order to add my photos.
Has anyone any idea if it's possible, and if so, how ?
    Thanks.

Used to work, as in the past I added a batch of my own stuff to the Cosmos saver. As I recall I also edited some file that was there to list my additions (that might have been in Panther), Didn't see such a file in the Leopard Cosmos saver, so what I did was just rename my own astro photos to the same thing that was already there, then dragged my files into the Resources folder replacing what was there with mine. I just added some more, bringing my total up to "Cosmos18" and it still works fine. You'll probably want to repair permissions from Disk Utility afterwards.

  • I need help with a PDF file that is an image, the "Read Out Loud' option does not work, please help!

I need help with a PDF file that is an image, the "Read Out Loud' option does not work, please help!

You mean an image such as a scanned document?
If that is the case, the file doesn't contain any text for Reader Out Loud to read. In order to fix that, you would need an application such as Adobe Acrobat that does Optical Character Recognition to convert the images to actual text.
You can also try to export the file as a Word document or something else using ExportPDF which I believe offers OCR and is cheaper than Acrobat.

  • Screen saver files inaccessible

Ok. I've had this iMac for two weeks. Everything was working perfectly out of the box. I love Apple! Anyway. At some point in the last couple of days, my screen savers got nerfed. Not sure how. I initially had it set to "Word of the Day," and when it activated today, the only thing my screen saver displayed was the word "Quartz."
These are my screen saver options, now. All the original files are still in their folder under System:Library:Screen savers. My computer just doesn't seem to be able to access them anymore. Any ideas on how to fix this or what exactly is going on? I've tried adding the files with the "+" button, but since they aren't picture files, it's a no-go.
I have tried opening them directly through that Library folder. Depending on the file type, trying to open the files either: 1- opens the screen saver control panel under System Preferences, but the file itself does not open; or 2- opens Quicktime Player but again the file itself does not open.
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

  • Aperture No Longer Working With Screen Saver?

For years I've been using my Aperture library (specifically, the "Flagged Photos") with the Screen Saver in OS X.  Since I upgraded to Lion last night, I have discovered that my Aperture library no longer shows up as an option in Screen Saver -- only iPhoto does.
As I am remiss to ditch years of work and return to iPhoto -- I was hoping someone might have discovered a solution for this problem (perhaps something to do with the iLife browser in Lion?).
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Then, I checked the new sharing preferences and closed out Aperture.  I opened up the System Preferences for Screen Saver, and after waiting about 1-2 minutes, Aperture popped up in there as an option.
Can you please explain what you mean about "checked the new sharing preferences?" I see no way of setting any "sharing" preferences in Preferences or anywhere else in Aperture. Do you mean you just looked at the sharing preferences?
Since I've upgraded to the latest version, when I go to the System Preferences, Aperture is very slow in showing up on the ScreenSaver settings under System Preferences and the virtual Library folders no longer show up (they show up under the Desktop window though). However, after closing Aperture, the screensaver would display "looking for pictures" and would not display the photos.
The latest upgrade definitely broke something, although it greatly improved Aperture's response time, as it was getting pretty sluggish before the upgrade.

  • Problems with screen saver image quality

Just got a MPB 15 inch. Very happy with it but have a small problem with the screen saver. I use my i Photo folders as the source for screen saver images. Some photos are shown in very good quality but others are very poor - as if low res. The original images are all of the same high quality. Seems to occur whichever video setting is used under power saving. A minor issue I now but any ideas?

Hi, Mark. Apparently some of the photos being used are low-resolution thumbnails, not full-resolution images.
What version of iPhoto do you have, and which OS version are you running? On my MBP running 10.5.6 and iPhoto 7.1.5, "All folders" is not an option in the Screensaver pane of System Prefs, so I don't know what you're actually choosing. But if I select "Pictures" (which refers to the Pictures folder in my Home folder), then the screensaver uses every .jpg file that it finds in any of the several iPhoto Libraries inside my Pictures folder. The thumbnails created by iPhoto are .jpgs, so they get used by the screensaver along with full-size high-resolution images.
The solution is not to select a folder that contains any thumbnails.

  • Interesting Issue with Screen Saver in System Preferences

Sorry for posting what might be a simple fix, as I thought it would be such, but apparently I just can't seem to figure this out. (as I trouble shoot for Pro Apps support requests every day at the office, but it's always the simplest items that seem to get us for some reason)
Just recently assisted installing Snow Leopard (Mac Box Set) on my sister's machine, clean install, and was in the process of updating her screen saver the way it was previously, Cycling through her Photos in iPhoto. When I first selected iPhoto within the screen saver system preference pane, it would give me a message saying that there were no photos selected/available. Yet, when I opened iPhoto '08, all her photos where all coming up as expected. No matter how many times I tried to select iPhoto in the screen saver pane, it wouldn't come up.
I figured I'd follow the request it was giving me, about using the icon at the bottom of the pane to manually add the "Pictures" folder where they all reside. Instead of just adding the "Pictures" folder to the side bar, it now shows ALL various sub-folders in the side bar list. (making the list about 100x longer than original)
I figured I'd try reversing what I did, selecting the various photo folders/sub-folders and use the to remove them from the list, but each of the various items listed all have the button disabled and cannot be removed. I then made several attempts to delete any/all preference files that were associated with *screensaver* in the various *.plst file namings. Though, no matter how many, or how many times I removed all the obvious screen saver *.plist files I could find, even after emptying the trash, and starting System Preferences once again, the HUGE list of photos were still showing up in the Screen Saver pane within System Preferences.
I appreciate any advice and/or guidance in how I might be able to remove the extra photo folders from the Screen Saver Sys Preferences side bar, and thank you very much in advance for taking the time thus far.
    Best Regards,
    -James-

  • Help with a "save as" query or an alternative suggestion

    Hi all
Hope someone can spread some light on this for me, im rather new to using adobe pro - and never ventured into java scripts as yet..
I have created a pdf document with various text boxes within the document. The document will be pushed out to external users who will only have access to adobe reader.
    My query is this:
I've created a save button, but can the file name automatically be set to include the data in one of the text fields. I still want the user to chose where to save the document but want the file name to be fixed to the data in the relevant text box.
If it can be done is it a relatively straight forward procedure.
If this is not possible, then as an alternative is it possible ible to create maybe a Warning or pop up box after clicking on the "save as" button to prompt the user to save with a different file name to avoid saving over previous versions etc.
Again if this is this possible, is it difficult to achieve?
Many thanks in advance for any help!
    Cheers
    Adam

This tutorial contains a lot of information about saving a file in Acrobat
    using JavaScript:
    http://acrobatusers.com/tutorials/how-save-pdf-acrobat-javascript
The bottom line is that in order to do it you must have a script installed
    on the local machine.
The alert is possible, but at the moment it is displayed the user can no
longer cancel the save command, so you can't really tell them to cancel it
    at that time...

  • Unix Scripting with screen saver

I have been trying commands from every version of Unix. I cannot find a way to start screen saver from Darwin. I am frustrated. Furthermore, is there a way someone can inform me how to connect to a bluetooth phone using a Mac Address. Similar to "hcitool scan" but for Darwin. So, I am looking for two things from a response from this post. 1) What is the alternative command for "hcitool scan" in Darwin and 2) How do I start my screen saver in Unix?
    Thank you all!

Wonderful! thank you very much. I will absolutely look into the Mac OS X Technologies forum. Big help!
I understand freeBSD and Darwin are not entirely equivalent. However, I checked out a book on Unix at the library. That book mentioned a few different versions of Unix including freeBSD. I basically used the book for it's commands and figured out which commands worked in Darwin. That took sometime but it is a long process. Now I am just using the manual pages with the command "man".
To answer your question, the cocoa application is not for me because I want to learn to program. I saw on YouTube I could program a script easily so I started.
I've been learning with computers and electronics since I was a young lad (approximately sixth grade for computers and electronics second grade). I learned quickly how much fun these two disciplines could be. In high school my parents pressured me to go into programming but I refused for little reason. Now I recently bought an Apple, after a exploring it a little I found I could download XCode for free. I tried programming in Objective C but my friend advised, "you should learn to program something more simple." so, I tried basic on my TI-86 calculator then I got bored with that and started with Unix. So, here I am learning to code in Unix because of pragmatism (meaning whatever is useful). I have a friend who once knew how to code who is guiding me in my experience. I am hoping to be a computational mathematics major at UCSC. Just waiting for a reply so I am programming to get some skill before I get to my school. I love this stuff!

  • IPhoto Smart Album works with Desktop, fails with Screen Saver

I've created a Smart Album in iPhoto, with my 5-star photos in it, calling it "My Favorites". In iPhoto, there are 116 photos right now. When I go to my Desktop settings, I see all the photos in "My Favorites".
When I go to Screen Saver, I get 5 of the photos in that Smart Album. I've got other Smart Albums, some with thousands in them, and they seem to display just fine.
I've deleted and re-created "My Favorites", even using a different name. I still get the same results.
Any ideas why Desktop would work, but Screen Saver won't, with the exact same Smart Album? How can I troubleshoot this?

    Terence Devlin wrote:
As the Desktop section is working, I would guess the problem is with the ScreenSaver. Try trash the ScreenSaver cache and see if that helps.
    Thanks.
The only cache I found was ~/Library/Caches/com.apple.ScreenSaver.Engine/Cache.db. Removing that had no effect; might this have been the wrong one, and if so, where is the right one?

  • 10.4.6 Issues with screen saver security and Finder Inspector dialog

Now that I've updated my system to 10.4.6, I no longer have password protection on my screen saver. I also can no longer right-click, select Inspector, and lock multiple files at once.
I can open Inspector and lock multiple files using the key command with no problem. It's just when I try to right-click that doesn't work. Inspector comes up, but it's available only for the entire disk -- it does not show multiple files. And a lock box to check doesn't exist anywhere in the dialogue box. Note that this is only a problem with files on my slave partition. My master drive is OK.
    Anyone else have these issues?

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
Sometimes if preference files are corrupt an update will simply reinforce their being corrupt. Try resetting them from the program that activates them. The password screen saver is in Apple menu -> System Preferences -> Security mentioned in:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=303548
As for the inspector, I don't know where that is controlled, but maybe someone else here will know.

  • Help with backing up files and opening from disk image.

I am trying to back up my hard drive so that I can send my PowerBook in for repair. I used disk utility from my Panther install discs to create a disk image of my HD.
The disk image was created successfully and mounts perfectly on my HD. I can open it and open all of my files from the disk image just fine when it is mounted on my PowerBook.
However, when I take it to a different Mac, things start getting sketchy. I can open Word files just fine, but Excel files claim they are read-only and cannot open. I checked the permission back on my PowerBook to see what was up, and the files were read/write for the owner and read-only for groups and others, but they should still open as read-only files right? I even checked the permissions on the Word files to see if there was a difference, but there was no difference.
I can take the external HD back to my PowerBook, remount it, and open everything fine, but then on the other Mac it is a no go.
I need to back this up for when it is out on repair, but I need to know that the files will open in case I need to restore my disk.
    Can anyone help??
BTW, I couldn't find the best forum to post this in, if there is a better one please direct me there...

    solution:
I went into the Apple Store nearby today to send my PowerBook off for repair for a screen issue, and in the process got help with my backing up issue.
It seems all one needs to do is copy the file from the external hard drive to the internal drive.
    It was that simple.
