Help with spry menu

  HI guys, very good forum! I am new to web design..
I am trying to build a web but i can not figure out how can get the menu button stay in diferent colour when is clicked and page changed.
I will give you examples
http://www.slugandlettuce.co.uk/
  Let say i inserted a spry menu bar horizontal and designed it how i like. What rule would i need to add to get buttons to stay the diferent colour when they are clicked/selected. Could you please help me wth that?
Thank you very much.
Roman

The way to make the button for the current page a different colour is to add an ID to the link, and create a separate style rule for it. For example, the following menu uses "here" as the ID to indicate the current page:
<ul id="MenuBar1" class="MenuBarHorizontal">
  <li><a class="MenuBarItemSubmenu" href="#" id="here">Item 1</a>
    <ul>
      <li><a href="#">Item 1.1</a></li>
      <li><a href="#">Item 1.2</a></li>
      <li><a href="#">Item 1.3</a></li>
    </ul>
  </li>
  <li><a href="#">Item 2</a></li>
  <li><a class="MenuBarItemSubmenu" href="#">Item 3</a>
    <ul>
      <li><a class="MenuBarItemSubmenu" href="#">Item 3.1</a>
        <ul>
          <li><a href="#">Item 3.1.1</a></li>
          <li><a href="#">Item 3.1.2</a></li>
        </ul>
      </li>
      <li><a href="#">Item 3.2</a></li>
      <li><a href="#">Item 3.3</a></li>
    </ul>
  </li>
  <li><a href="#">Item 4</a></li>
</ul>
With the following rule in the style sheet, the first item is a rusty brown:
#here {
  background-color:#C60;

  • Need help with Spry Menu Bar

    Hello,  I have two templates that I am using.  Both have a horizontal menu bar across the top of the page and then two Vertical Spry Menu Bars down the left hand side of the page - one above the other.  On one template, all menu bars are working correctly.  On the other template, 2 out of three are working correctly.  Not sure what's happening here.  The spry menu bar that is not working correctly is under "Books & Materials" heading.  The menu bar is supposed to turn green when you mouse over it, but instead everything turns white and looks like it "disappears".  I have no idea why it would work on one template and not the other.  Or for that matter, why it is working on one vertical spry menu bar, but not the other on the same page.  Can anyone help me?   www.springerlejoy.com/proanimals4.html  This is a page that shows where it is not working.  Basically, all of the products pages are having this problem.  If you go to the home page:  www.springerlejoy.com you will see that this page is working - using a different template.  Can anyone help me?  I'm at a loss!  Thanks!
    Debbie
    Here is the code for the template that is NOT working:

  • CS4 Help with spry menu bar. Want Top Centered and Subs left-justified.

    Hi there, using DW8 mostly, but have the trial version of CS4
    for the spry menu bar. WinXP.
    Can someone help me with the spry menu bar on this page? I'd
    like the main menu to be centered, as it looks better for
    appearance, and the sub menus to be left-justified.
    http://www.manmeetswoman.com/example4.html
    But I can't seem to do that, if I make the main menu
    centered, it seems to override the submenus even if I make a class
    just for the submenu to be left-justified.
    Am I doing something wrong or is this not possible?
    And the menu bar looks horrific in IE6. I assume it looks ok
    in IE7 and above. Can someone help me with a code just for IE6 for
    this?

    audio90 wrote:
    Not quite what I was looking for. I'm wanting the top menu to be grouped together and to the right and the submenu boxes to all a single square box, not just with backgrounds extending only the length of the word. Also, your menu bar doesn't display properly in IE6 either.
    1) You should be able to achieve a square box for your submenu items by fixing the widths of all of your submenu items to something larger than the content of your widest submenu <li> tag.  This should be achievable with a single change of setting in the following CSS rule.
    ul.MenuBarHorizontal ul li {
         width:???em;
    Set your width using em units, so that the box shrinks and grows with the size of the text when the latter is changed by the user.
    2) Getting your top menu items to group together to the right may be more difficult as the entire menu bar is built on an HTML list structure with left-floated <li> tags.  If it is possible, then you should begin your experimentation with the following CSS rule
    ul.MenuBarHorizontal li {
         float:right;
    Change the float property from left to right, as I have indicated.
    My suspicion, however, is that many subsequent adjustments will have to be made.  So, back up your current CSS file before you begin.

  • Help with Spry Menu Bar 2.0 customization

    I am having trouble converting my original Spry menu to version 2.0.
    On my website http://bucknellprimaryschool.org/ the 'old' menu system works just great but not in iPads (ie the sub menu does not pop out).
    I discovered hat Spry 2.0 does work but I cannot replicate the submenu of the original - I can get the menu to pop out but configuring the different colours for each button has me beat this time.  The original was modified using this piece of css to get the coloured rollover effect for the sub menus but I just cannot figure our how to replicate this.

    Thanks
    Graham

    I'm back again.  I actually managed to get the rollover effect to work by creating new classes in my css so I'm thinking of staying with Spry 2.0.  However I've found that using an image file for each of the top line menu items stops the menu popping out in my iPad.  If I revert to a coloured box it works just great.
    Can anyone please tell me how I can change the top level of the vertical menu so that I have a different colour for each item in much the same way as the old image version?
    http://bucknellprimaryschool.org/spry.html is my test file and I have (sort of) fudged the Home item with a coloured 'button'.
    Hope someone can step in to help me.
    Thanks

  • Help with spry menu bar in liquid layout

    I need help getting a spry menu bar with a 6-item list to stay in place in a liquid layout.  Trying to get it horizontally under the header image.  I am new to web design (new to html and code: reading books, searching web, and doing tutorials for many hours now), using CS4, working on a mac.  You can view my trial page on cc-tn.com.  I would appreciate any help offered!

    Problem stems from the fact that your page is looking for files contained on your local hard drive instead of the web site.

    In addition, the links to PDF files are pointing to your local hard drive.

  • Help with Spry Menu Bar 2.0 (vers. 1.0) - Placement of customized styles files

    Hello:
    I would like to congratulate the authors of the new Spry Menu Bar Framework 2.0 (vers. 1.0) -- it has truly been an advance and over the previous generation, and is much more user friendly for those without extensive knowledge of the spry framework.  I have also appreciated the tutorial created by David Powers that is found on the Adobe labs site, and find that it has been very helpful.
    However, I do have one general question that I would seek some clarification before completing the task of deploying the widget in its final form.  I have gone beyond the tutorial insofar as I have customized the styling to allow me to use background images for the menus and submenus in both static and hover states.  I have also gone directly (with add of the tutorial) to work on my own site rather than recreating the bayside tutorial.  I know have my styles embedding into a template page (.dwt).
    My question is whether those styles embedded in the head of the template page should be transferred to a separate styles page and attached (or possibly included in the styles page that handles the CSS for the layout aspects of my site), or whether it should overwrite the styles included in the basic styles skin for the widget.  The latter seems the most likely answer, as many of the classes are for the same names as those in my template page, but have different (and conflicting settings).  However I wanted to make certain of this before proceeding.
    Once again let me thank those responding to this query in advance for the helpful tips I have received along the way, and that will likely follow this post.
    I could post the css and the html with this querry, but I hope I have explained the question well enough that a general response will be all that I need.
    Thanks again for the help.
    Steve Webster

    Thanks for your helpful response.
    I had already tried the various options (overwriting basic styles, skins, etc) and quickly learned to back track as they were definitely not the answer to the question I posed.  I then included them in the customized style sheet for the entire site and clearly de-marked them as styles governing the spry menu widget 2.0 (1.0) with the warning that future developers working on the site should use care in amending them, and warning that they be remain included in the general styles file.
    I was going to indicate in response to my own query that this seemed to be the best practice, but your response confirmed what I had learned.
    Thanks once again for your helpful advice and intervention.
    Steve Webster.

  • Help with Spry Menu - stopped working

    Dear Forum,
    I used a Spry Horizonatal Bar menu successfully in a site I
    am building. After I modified it to suit my needs it was working
    fine (changed colors, font, variable width box, modified hacks for
    IE6) until I did some code cleaning to achieve WC3 validation. I
    had to change many things in the code, but as far as I am aware
    nothing was even remotely tied to the menu. After several passages
    I realized with horror that the menu (still there) are not working
    anymore. The pull down does not work. I attach the link of the test
    site here:
    site
    Is anyone able to tell me what's not ok in it. I must point
    out that senpai.js do not exists; should i remove that lin of code
    (I am wondering if it does create a conflict - I removed it but to
    no effect, then decided to put it back so I can show you the site
    as it is).
    I would appreciate any help, I am not expert, this is my
    first site and I am sure I am doing something silly; if I just knew
    what it is! I am getting mad trying to progress with this. Now I
    have valid code, with a menu not working! Not too good as you can
    see.
    Help, ideas anyone?
    Thanks in advance!

    syavar: Brilliant!
    I'm on Windows 7 64bit and this Pages panel stuff was driving me nuts: thumbnails at the far right, snapping shut panel when attempting to resize, no scroll bar, blank panel, everything poopy. I tried all the standard deviations: uninstall/reinstall, new workspace, Ctrl+Shift+Alt on startup, delete files manually, and only ocassionally did the Pages panel work as expected, then it would almost immediately revert to bad stuff.
    Your solution worked like a charm, and I thank you from the bottom of my heart...<G>

  • Help with Spry menu bar 2.0

    I installed a spry menu 2.0 bar for this site I am working. Test site is here.
    It seems to be working in every broswer but IE7. The menus will not drop down but I guess the links on the top level navigation (home about etc) work. I hate IE. I'm also unsure if it works in earlier versions of Firefox like 4.0.
    The Adobe Lab Browser either doesn't like me, or I don't know how to properly use it, but I don't understand how to make sure your links work. I do the control command click thing. But for example: It will work one day when I preview the page in IE8 but not the next day (and I know it works in IE8 because I have physically tested it in IE8). So the lab browser leaves me feeling confused.
    If anyone can help me fix the problem in IE7 (or other browsers, who knows what's going on I sure don't :/ ) I would be very grateful.
    Thank you for any help you can give me.

    Actually Spry Menu 2.0 is pretty stable.
    Using IE-Tester, your drop-menus appear to work fine in IE6, IE7, IE8 & IE9.
    Also works in Chrome & Firefox 3.6x.

  • Help with spry menu css

    Very new to this, so...in an effort to code a page using a spry menu bar for a mobile device, I made the following edits: 1) renamed MenuBarHorizontal to MenuBarMyCompany 2) renamed MenuBarVertical to MenuBarMyCompany 3) moved the SpryMenuBarHorizontal.css code to MyCompanyStyle.css 4) moved the SpryMenuBarVertical.css code to mobile.css. These changes are displayed exactly as I’d hoped in Dreamweaver CS5.5 Live View; however, the menu bar styling is does not display at all in Safari or Firefox browsers. Any advice? Thanks so much.

    When I reviewed the source, I realized I hadn't removed one of the style links. I am so sorry to have posted this question.

  • HELP WITH SPRY MENU BAR!!!

    I there,
    I'm a newbbie and I'm just learning DW with tutorials and try/error while I make my Cinematographer website. I've been fighting all aspects of DW that are relevant to my site, and I'm having serious trouble formatting the Spry Horizontal Menu Bar.
    My last "f***up" has been the following: I already had a pretty decent Menu Bar, but the submenus where a little too low under the parent button. I was trying to lower the space between them items, and I've f***ed up. Not only I haven't been able to make it happen, but now the submenus show all the time, instead of being hidden. This is my MAIN thing here.
    Now, if you feel liek helping all the way, I also need to place those SUBMENUs closer to the PARENT button. They seem to be in a "box" that I can't modify.
    And if you REALLY want to help even more! I want to set a border to the buttons on the submenu, a thin black border without affecting the upper PARENT button.
    How does it sound?? I would REALLY REALLY REALLY appreciate your help, I'm lost!!!

    THANKS VERY MUCH FOR READING!!!!
    Hermes

    Hermes, the most useful thing for us to see will be the SpryMenuBarHorizontal.css file. The answers will be in your code.
    Short of that, if you create a new site and a new page with an unaltered version of the menubar css stylesheet, compare that stylesheet with the one you have edited on your own page. Working carefully from top to bottom and looking at the differences, you might be able to pinpoint the problems. As you will see, the stylesheet is carefully commented, and a careful reading will reveal much to you about how the styles are applied.
    One reason submenus might show all the time is if you have altered the style rule that places the submenus at a position of left: -1000em; That is a technique for 'hiding' the submenus way off to the left of the viewport until the Javascript calls them back on when you hover over the main menus. If you have altered any part of that rule, look at it carefully and replace your edits with original code.
    Submenus  are actually list items in unordered lists. If you can position the top of the unordered list higher, you will shift those submenus higher.
    In order to style submenus but not the main menu items, you will style rules whose selectors begin like this:
    ul.SpryMenuBarHorizontal ul
    That means, the unordered list that is inside the unordered list whose class is "SpryMenuBarHorizontal".
    To put rules around submenu items, style the borders of
    ul.SpryMenuBarHorizontal ul li

  • Help with Spry menu bar editing

    I posted this discussion topic, and have received loads of viewing but no comments:
    http://forums.adobe.com/message/4657643#4657643
    When I looked at the discussion just now, it was saying Read Only, but I don't understand why.   Can anyone help me the original query, or why the discussion has changed to RO.
    If you need more information, or I'm posting in the wrong place, perhaps someone could let me know.
    Thanks.

    Thanks, I understand GitHub a little better now.  I didn't link to the CSS and JS files on the Adobe Labs server so I'm glad to know my website will be ok.
    My site isn't live at the moment as I've taken it down whilst working on it.  However, my question was more about tring to understand how to do something' in principle'.
    I currently have around four templates and one individual screen.  When I add/remove/edit the Spry drop down menu, I currently go to each of the four templates + the screen and make the adjustments to each one.  It works fine, but is there a more efficient way of making changes so that I only have to do it once?
    The second question is linked to the first - having made the changes to the Spry menus, when I make the site live, the majority of users see the 'old' version of the website.  Am I doing something wrong, or is this just the way it works (presumably something to do with the pages being cached??)?    I advise them to use Refresh, but not all of them are happy with this especially as they have to do it for each page.

    I too have a similar problem if not exactly the same. I am
    finding it difficult getting information about it because I don't
    really know how to describe what is happening!
    In essence when I have a menu bar as you describe on the left
    and another placeholder AP div to teh right of that menus when I
    preview in a browser the whole things collapses and is very very
    sensitive when you try to navigate to the right and drop out menu
    Mine are vertical (popping out to the left!)
    Now if I remove the place holder all is fine BUT I need to
    use the place holder to position a collapsible panel.
    At one stage I thought it was the collapsable panel causing
    issues but an empty AP DIV tag all cause the issue!

  • Help with Spry menu bars needed please?

    Hi all
    I am brand new to this forum, so please forgive any mistakes!
    My problem is this:
    I have created a 10 page web site in DW, and created a Spry horizontal drop down menu within it. I have created all the links on all pages, and all is working fine. However - here is my question - if I want to add another page to my site (making it 11 pages) is there a way of just creating it on one page (say index.html) and then automatically updating the other 9 pages with this new page - or do I have to open every page to add my new page manually?
    Please help me out if you can.
    Many thanks and regards
    Mark

    Hans - that was exactly what I was looking fro - thank you so much.
    Have a good day

    Please post links directly to the page having an issue. I saw
    no tabs on the home page, but I noticed that there is a link on the
    bottom of the page to this page that has a Spry tab on it:

    That page refers to a Spry JavaScript file and a Spry CSS
    file, which should be at the following locations but are not
    present:
    http://www.so-nouveau.com/SpryAssets/SpryTabbedPanels.js

    Make sure you upload the SpryAssests folder and see where
