Help with symbol libraries! (Illustrator CS2)

I am trying to make some symbol libraries of my most common symbols for ease of access. The problem is I want them to load up when Illustrator starts. I have managed to do this with one of the libraries but have no idea how!! The option of setting the window to persistent just appeared and now it doesn't seem to be an option for the rest? Can anyone help? what am I doing wrong?

Edit your startup files. There are two: one for CMYK, another for RGB documents. You'll find instructions in Help.

Help with Multiple libraries and one storage location for files

I cannot get an answer to this question anywhere and was really hoping that The [H] would be able to help.
Here is my current set up that allows my wife and I to have completely independent libraries and ratings, but use the same files:
-Shared folder with MP3s on a network drive.
-Two PCs, each with it's own Ipod associated to it with individual libraries but all pointing to the same network share for MP3 Files.
-Each PC is using the SAME Itunes account for downloads.
-Each account has it's own library folder also on a network share.
Now to my question(s)/problem with downloaded content:
(1) Is there any way to have a file that is downloaded from Itunes be automatically placed in a shared location accessible to both Libraries? (Say if I download the latest Jack Johnson album, can it automatically show up in my wife's library and vice versa?)
(2) Is there any way to share the album artwork versus having two copies of everything(one for each library)?
So my goal is to have two libraries with a central location for ALL files, including anything downloaded from Itunes by each individual user. Is this possible?

Have your wife transfer all purchases from the iPad into iTunes, backup her iPad and then sync with iTunes. Everything ... All media and other content will be available in that iTunes library and she will have a current backup.
Assuming that your son will still be sharing your wife's Apple ID (he is too young to have one of his own) .... When you set up his iPad, restore the iPad from your wife's backup and then select only the content that you want your son to have on his iPad in the iTunes library and then sync that iPad with iTunes.
The game progress is stored in the backup and should transfer onto his device when you restore from your wife's backup. You can always delete any content (apps, movies, music) that you don't want your son to have on the iPad, if you missed it when you synced with iTunes after setting the device up for him.
You can set your sync preferences - any way that you want to - for both devices and still use the same iTunes library for both iPads. So ... Yes you can sync any apps that you want to his iPad and any apps that your wife wants to her iPad. You just need to restore your son's iPad from your wife's backup in order to get his game progress onto his iPad.

HELP - the application Adobe Illustrator CS2 quit unexpectly

Hi, I have a room of networked Mac's (G4) OS 10.4.6 and we have had all twenty machines running CS2 and everything working fine.
Now that the machines haven't been used for a while I can only get 7 of the machines to work on CS2.
I get this error message when opening a new or saved document in illustrator " the application Adobe Illustrator CS2 quit unexpectly".
Version of Illustrator is 12.0.1 Any Ideas?

I – as well as many people here – could answer all your questions. Also, I could provide some misleading hints which could cause serious trouble for you in case you would use them in your exam.

Set the filename in a textframe with JS in Illustrator CS2 WIN

I found some possibilities to set the filename in a textframe. But only in applescript or for CS (WS-dateandtime v0.8 from Wolfgang Reszel)
b There is no JS-script, which works correctly in Illu CS2 Win.
Please, help me to get a JS-script that proper works.

Thanks a lot for answering me. I did it (renamed and added this two lines at new line 89 and 90 in the Script, selected Textframe and execute the jsx from Windows-Explorer) but nothing happened. Only a warning message appeared. It sayed: "You used an illustrator-12 Script " The Message is in German, I cannot to translate literally.
No filename and no date wasn't fill in textframe.
It's a great pity, the same Script runs in CS3 without problems. But I need it for CS2 :-(
What can I do?

Actionscript help with symbol control (Flash 8)

I have a bunch of symbols on the stage and want to control
them with actionscript to cut down on the workload. The attached
code is what I've created that works for the most part with 3
problems/customization desires:
1) When I test this the POST still sends my variables in a
querystring like a GET (only read by request.querystring). How to
make the POST act like a POST.
2) My mouse over creates a larger symbol. How could I get
this to animate the growth to a larger symbol?
3) My shadow effect is just a transparent copy of the
original symbol. How can I change the color to be transparent
black? Or is there a better way?

1) you should use LoadVar.sendAndLoad - rather than just send
in order to maintain the current swf file - even if you only
specify a "POST" method param.
2) you should use the Tween class to 'grow the scale of the
button - and shrink back to size it onRollOut - without a need to
create a duplicate instance.

Help with Shared Libraries?

I don't have a "Look for Shared Libraries" under Preferences > Sharing (which the other two computers in my home do have), all I have is the "Shared Libraries" under Preferences > General > Sources (which this is checked). I have uninstalled iTunes and then installed it again, this did not work. The other two computers in my home are running off of Windows XP, but the trouble computer is running off of Windows Vista. Not sure if this could be the problem. Please help.

Usually when you are developing software you don't install the package every time you compile it. You just make sure that you can run it from the location where you compiled it. That way you can keep the latest stable version that you can use for leisure time and the development version for testing. Also for contributing to a project you should directly interact with the project's repository (svn, git, ...). So I refer back to my first post here where the PKGBUILD can give you an idea how to go about compiling the source code yourself.
Just don't run "make install" because that will leave your system in a messy state, a simple "make" (with the proper configuration) should result in a locally build binary that you can run from where it was compiled.

Help with multiple libraries: 1 local, 1 Airdisk

(Note: I posted this on the iTunes board, but I think it has more to do with my Airport Extreme / hard drive setup. It used to work when the library was a USB external drive attached directly. Now that it's on Airport, not so much.)
I have a new 802.11N AirPort Extreme, to which I have connected a LaCie 500GB HD/USB hub. I have a 100GB library of music on this hard drive. The hard drive is an AirPort Disk through the AirPort Extreme.
I used the iTunes consolidate libary option to locate my music files to this AirPort Disk. In the folder just above the music files, I've placed the Album Artwork folder, the iTunes library .xml file, and the library .itl file. To establish this library, I held down OPTION while clicking on iTunes in my dock, then selected this Airport Disk library to open. This worked just fine.
However, I would like to manage a separate local library on my MacBook Pro's hard drive to keep music to listen to at work and my podcasts, etc. In the past, I was able to use the multiple library option to do this when I had my music on an external USB drive (not via Airport). I could select one or the other library, and iTunes would remember the location in Preferences > Advanced. I could switch libraries back and forth often, and iTunes would remember the library location.
This isn't the case anymore. When I establish iTunes to use the Airport Disk library, it works fine. When I try to switch to a local library, it still keeps the AirPort Disk location in Preferences. If I change it to local, then switch back to the Airport library, it keeps the local address in Preferences. Switching it back at that point requires a lengthy process where iTunes has to reindex the file locations presumably.
Please help! This was totally unexpected. Being able to manage a local library is important to me (there are differences between the two, particularly podcasts--that I don't care to have in my "master" library on the Airport Disk).

Help with DNG program for CS2

I have photoshop CS2- I downloaded Adobe DNG 3.7- I can not figure out how to convert my NEF files from my Nikon camera- Program has no instructions- I also downloaded a camera raw plug-in file. What's that? How do I get theses NEF files to Photoshop! HELP!

You want Camera Raw 3.7 for use with CS2.

No, the D40x is NOT on the list of cameras supported by 3.7. Support was not added until Camera Raw 4.1 and DNG Converter 4.1.
You always want to use the most recent version of the DNG Converter, which is currently 4.3.1. Is is a stand alone program. It does not require any version of any Adobe software to be installed.

Totally frustrated. Need help with type tool in CS2.

Must start by admitting I'm embarrassed to have to even find myself asking this question. . . But after working with PageMaker since Ver. 2.0 in the early '80s, finally was forced to switch to CS2 when I had to replace my Mac/Intel computer 3 (or was it 4 years ago?). Did so fighting and cursing all the way, and I'm still having trouble typing in Photoshop . . . not just today, but EVERY TIME I sit down to work on a project.
Most are brochures and display ads, and though friends and colleagues insist my real problem is that I should be setting them up in InDesign, I'm convinced it's easier to work on graphics and text simultaneously in Photoshop.
My problem is in grabbing text blocks in order to edit them. Occasionally I'm able to highlight the text I need, but usually I keep getting new type layers instead. I know it should not be this difficult, but as soon as I select the text with the cursor, I get a new, empty text box.It doesn't seem to matter if I am in the layers or edit mode.
I may not be the most technically advanced Adobe user, but I'm not stupid. What the heck am I doing wrong? Can someone please steer me right?

Type Tool Tips for Photoshop
Most folks understand how to create text in Photoshop. You select the Type Tool from the Toolbox, or you tap the "T" key on your keyboard. Then, in the Character Palette you set the attributes for font, color, size, etc. A simple click in your document window will mark the spot where you may begin typing unbounded "point" text. Or, you click and drag in your document window to create a paragraph text box. Type out your text, then tap your "Enter" key to commit the text to its new layer.
It's pretty straightforward, and Photoshop offers a decent set of tools to adjust how your text looks. One hitch that long-timers will tell you about, though: It's generally accepted that Photoshop isn't the best application to be using if you have to have to create a lot of text because it doesn't have all of the adjustment functions necessary to produce large amounts of professional-quality text. Well, the real world being what it is, sometimes, and for some users, Photoshop is the only application they have to work with; might as well make the best of it, right?
So, once you have text entered onto a layer in your document, how do you then reselect iteither all of it or just a portion and navigate through it easily? What follows will answer some of those questions.
Note: The keyboard shortcuts that follow assume you are using a Mac. If you're using Windows, substitute the CTRL key for "Command."
Double-Click on the boxed 'T' thumbnail on the desired Text Layer in the Layers Palette. This will select and highlight all of the text on that layer.
Then, if you want, you can use some keyboard shortcuts to move the "Blinking Bar" Type Tool cursor through the text.
Assuming that your text is enclosed in a click-and-dragged out paragraph text box--When all text is highlighted:
"Home" key will move cursor to the beginning of first line of text.
"End" key will move cursor to the end of last line of text.When text is NOT highlighted, but cursor is flashing within the text:
"Home" key moves cursor to the beginning of the line it's in.
"End" key moves cursor to the end of the line it's in.
Command + "Home" moves cursor to beginning of first line of text.
Command + "End" moves cursor to end of the last line of text.
Shift + "Home" selects text from cursor position to the beginning of the line it's in.
Shift + "End" selects text from cursor position to the end of the line it's in.
Shift + Command + "Home" selects text from cursor position to the beginning of the first line of text.
Shift + Command + "End" selects text from cursor position to the end of the last line of text.Arrow keys can also be used to select text in various ways. When your cursor is flashing within the text:
Shift + Right Arrow cumulatively selects text one character or space at a time, from cursor position, progressing toward the end of the text.
Shift + Left Arrow cumulatively selects text one character or space at a time, from cursor position, progressing toward the beginning of the text.
⇒ Add the Command key to select whole words at a time, in either direction.
Shift + Up Arrow selects text from cursor position back to the next line above the cursor.
Shift + Down arrow selects text from cursor position forward to the next line below the cursor position.
⇒ Add the Command key to select text starting from the cursor position, and accumulating either back to the beginning of the first line, or forward to the end of the last line.
That covers most of what (or more than) you need to know to navigate through and highlight text. There are some other key combos, and now that you have an idea of what to do, I'll let you experiment and discover them on your own.
Type Tool Visual Indicators
Keep a close eye on your Type Tool cursor as you move it near to and away from a hunk of text in your document window.
When you see it as a plain old "I-Bar" cursor⇒
⇒...that means that it's ready to select a position within that text, or to select a hunk of that text.
When you see a "boxed I-Bar" cursor⇒
⇒...that means your cursor is outside of the selectable area for the current text, and is ready for you to click (to start right in typing some unbounded point text) or click-n-drag (to create a paragraph text box). This will, of course, create a new text layer.
How can you get a visual indicator of where that selectable area for current text begins and ends without blindly moving your Type Tool cursor around the text? Double-Click on the "Boxed-T" thumbnail in the Layers Palette. The text for that layer will become highlighted in your document window. See the black area that surrounds the text? That shows you the actual space occupied by the characters. If your Type Tool cursor is inside this area, it will display the plain "I-Bar" cursor. If it's outside of that area, it will display the "Boxed I-Bar" cursor.
Want to FORCE Photoshop to create a new Type Layer, even though you're seeing the plain I-Bar cursor?
Hold the SHIFT key, then either click, or click-n-drag out a paragraph text box.

Need help with Trapping on Illustrator CS3

I'm a graphic design student taking a class on digital pre-publishing, I'm having a difficult time with some trapping assignments.I'm supposed to do manual and automatic trapping using spot and manual colors, knocking away CMY colors by three points on a keepaway but I have no idea what I'm doing. Help with mulitple libraries

The last software update that I did for my itouch for some reason wiped everything I had saved on it. Everything should be easy to put everything back on my itouch but the problem is I had my itouch connected to 2 different computers, one at home and one at work and have had no probem with putting music on my ipod using either computer. But I rencently purchased a new computer for work and need to get all the music from the other 2 computes onto 1 computer. I transferred music from both computers using a flash drive and I have all the music in my itunes but all of the music from the previous computers have an exclamation mark next to them. When i go to play a song with an exclamation point it says the song can not be used because the original file can not be found. Also my new computer is authorized on my account.

It sounds like an older version of iTunes was installed when your hard drive was restored. Libraries made with newer versions cannot be opened by older versions. Upgrading to Mavericks won't necessarily upgrade all the applications too. Download iTunes from the tab at the top of this page. Install the upgrade/update. Start the new iTunes while holding down the option/alt key and select the "itunes library.itl" file in the Music/iTunes folder which also has all your old content.

Help with installation of Illustrator (CS3 on Windows Vista)

I downloaded Illustrator onto my laptop, but when I go and try and nstall it, it gives a message saying: installation cannot continue until the following applications are closed: internet explorer.
Please close the applications listed above and click 'try again' to continue the installation.
The thing is that I do close IE!! I've tried re-starting, pressing CTRL + ALT + DEL, but nothing works! I am seriously desperate. What is the problem and how do I go about fixing it? I need Illustrator installed.

I do not know your exact problem and I do not know if this is going to do the job but for what it is worth. Uninstall IE restart your computer then install AI. Then reinstall IE.
As I say I do not know if this would work but it might be worth a try.

I need a little help with my libraries

I have two accounts, one for me and one for my wife. I set up the library, in a folder under "shared", using my account and everything is in there. When I switch to my wife's account, I changed the library to the same folder and nothing shows up. I tried to drag and drop files; I also went through the menus to add files and nothing shows up. I read the apple article about doing this (multiple accounts, one folder) and followed the instructions. Nothing seems to work.
1. Can someone tell me something I can do to get this to work?
2. Once configured properly, will itunes pick up any new files I add to the music folder automatically.
I do see the benefit of using itunes but I have yet to master a few of the details.

OK. I followed the instructions from the other thread and it still didn't work for me. One thing that I did notice was the fact that when I try to add files while using my wife's profile, the files (songs) are grayed out. I think that is my problem but I don't know why. Is it normal for someone to have two copies of the same music on a mac for itunes? Oh, the files are in a "music" folder under the shared folder. According to the reading I have all users should have permissions for this folder. My wife's account is also has admin priviledges. Any more suggestions?
I have made some progress with the PB so tonight was interesting; I got my printer to work.

I need help with Importing my Illustrator file into After Effects, I'm having problems

Hello everyone, I'm new to this forum. I am having a hard time importing this Illustrator file into After Effects. Here's how it is in the Illustrator file
As you can see, I made all the layers separate so then when I import it I can work on each and every one. (I want them to bloom from the center)
but when I import to After Effects (I ask to import the composition and retain the layers), the size looks completely different:
Then when I drag down the layers folder to the Comp Panel, the layer order starts getting really messed up. Here is what I am talking about
What am I doing wrong and how can I fix it? Also how can I figure out how to let the petals boom? I'm thinking of scaling the center larger first and then scaling the petals from there. but first I have to figure out how to get the size distortion and the layer orders right. Thanks.

You need to open the comp not drag layers in a new comp.
