Help with syncing contacts - 2 iphones

My husband and I both have iphones, share an itunes account and both sync with the same mac. I have no trouble keeping our songs and apps seperate for sync, but...address book does not recognize the sync settings to keep 2 folders seperate? Help!? I have set up 2 folders, one for his contacts and one for mine. I have checked the correct boxes for sync and it just ignores it!

I forgot to state the obvious, but just in case...we both are getting "ALL" contacts.

If you choose to sync with iCloud then I don't believe you can also sync to Outlook. You'll need to choose one or the other.

From the address book app on your computer where your contacts should be available as well and/or with the email account you are syncing contacts over the air with.

New to iPhone and need help with syncing contacts.

I know how to change the settings in the iTunes view so that I can set it to sync, but when I started the transfer of my iPhone contacts it tells me that 25% of my contacts will change. What does this mean? Does this mean that the contacts on my iPhone will change, or the contacts in my Address Book on my MBP will change?
I'm a bit confused by this. I don't want to lose my address book info (mostly e-mail contacts) and I don't want to contaminate my iPhone contacts with the data in my Address Book.

One alternative would be to set up iCloud and then sync your contacts there. This would keep them on www.iCloud.com (see http://www.apple.com/icloud/setup/ to set this up). Another would be to sync them with Google by setting up a gmail account as and exchange account, which enables contact and calendar syncing. Still haven't gotten an answer to my question yet. I want to perform a complete restore on my 4S before upgrading to IOS 6. The only data I want transfered over are my contacts. Can I do this without restoring from a backup via Itunes on my PC? Someone told me awhile ago that the only way to get contacts back on your iphone is by restoring from a backup. Please help. Thanks

if you're in the UK try a company called fixmyiphone. I had the same issue - Apple told me it was not repairable. I tried the 'hairdryer trick' (look it up on youtube) but it did not work and finally I found this company - fixed it on the spot for £40. Highly recommend. An iPhone without wifi is called an iBrick.....

Syncing contacts from iPhone back to iMac (Entourage)

Briefly, after both my Time Machine and hard drive failed, I lost all my data. My Entourage contacts re-main on my iPhone, and I want to sync them back to Entourage. I understand the process of "merging,"but I have run into a few obstacles: I am using the latest version of iTunes (7.6.2), by the way. First, under Preferences, I have no options available under "Syncing." Then, when I connect my iPhone, and select "Info," I have no options here, either. I do have a number of contacts in Entourage in my iMac, but, apparently, iTunes no longer recognizes the existence of this program, so I can go no-
where. (My Entourage Contacts have been duplicated in my Address Book, but that doesn't show up, either. Something must be terribly corrupted.) I'm both frustrated and perplexed, so any help would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks in advance. pah

Something to check when syncing contacts from iphone back to computer, make sure to open address book and enter at least one contact.
Then when you connect the iphone, you should get a message asking if you want to merge the data.
Click merge and this should copy all contacts from the iphone back into address book.
the same goes with ical also.
Make sure there is at least one event in ical.
Now to move the data in address book and ical to entourage is set in the entourage preferences in the sync services section.

iTunes Match is a subscription system that allows you to upload your own music (e.g. coped from CDs) to the cloud so that it shows (in the cloud) on your devices and computers without having to sync/copy it.
Automatic downloads allows to, for example, buy an app on your computer's iTunes and have it automatically download on your phone without having to connect and sync it or go to the Purchased tab in the App Store app on your download and download it yourself - but doing that, going to the Purchased tab and redownloading an app, should get it associated.
But no, I'm not aware of any problems that not having it associated causes.

Syncing contacts FROM IPhone MANUAL. PC

So this is basically a continuation of bsohl's thread Syncing Contacts FROM iPhone?.
For those of you that are in a similar situation to this:
1. You're on a PC.
2. Your primary storage space for contacts is your phone.
3. Your email client isn't compatable with ITunes.
4. You want to back up your contacts.
Follow these few steps to make your backup happen:
1. Sign up for a new yahoo email address.
2. In the info tab in ITunes select Sync Contacts with Yahoo Address Book.
3. At the prompt enter in your new yahoo email address and password.
4. Hit 'apply'. At this point you may have to hit sync or it might just do it automatically. I can't remember.
Here comes the magic

6. Select 'merge'.
7. Wait a few seconds.
8. Check your contacts in your yahoo email account and they should all be there.

You can also sync your contacts to Microsoft Address Book. Go to the info pane with your phone connected to change the settings.
Your iphone backup also contains your contact info. So before you sync, back up your phone manually, here's how to:
Disable autosync in iTunes/settings/devices, connect your phone to your new computer and right click on it in the device list and choose backup. iTunes will backup your phone without syncing.
Do the same to transfer your purchases by choosing "transfer purchases" this time.
When you connect your phone for the first time, all media content will be erased. But you can restore your settings and app data from your manual backup afterwards.
Don't forget to set up at least one contact and event on your new computer to be able to merge calendars and contacts when you sync the phone for the first time.

My approach to this problem has been to start by setting up the new os x 10.10 servers and just two os x 10.10 clients. I've plodded through setting up the server1 and client 1 and then checking that server2 replicates correctly and client 2 can be deployed and managed via DeployStudio and Profile Manager. At the moment I am using client 2 for my own day to day work to ensure I spot snags before the students do.
Once I happy with the microcosm I've created, it's a matter of syncing /Users on the old and new servers with rsync and telling DeployStudio that the hundred or so clients that are currently running 10.6.8 and are binding to 10.6.8 servers need to be re-imaged with the workflow that client 2 is currently using. (Actually I'll probably do one client per subnet first before hitting the 'Make it so!' switch.)
The most laborious part of the migration for me has been recasting MCX preferences set with Workgroup Manager as 'profiles'. I have never been happy with automated migration for servers. Setting up a server is not particularly difficult and you end up with a clean and documented installation that you understand fully that uses current methods and no legacy settings or obsolete hacks.
I've no idea whether this is the most efficient or best method, but it feels safe to me; even after deployment, until I shutdown my beloved Xserves for the last time I'll be able to roll the whole system back to 10.6.8 within a couple of hours if something goes wrong.

Click on your iDevice on the sidebar of iTunes and then go to the info tab at the top. check the box shown here:
This will put the contacts from an iDevice to the computer. You can then check the same box on the (let's say iPad) that doens't have any contacts and they will go from your comp to your iPad.

Hello all. I recently replaced the HD in my MacBook Pro. Just after, I retrieved my old files from the Time Machine backup, which I made just before the replacement. During the first sync of my iPhone via iTunes and while I was trying to sync my contacts I saw the message "iTunes could not sync contacts to iPhone because an error occurred while committing data". After that, I lost my iPhone contacts (I have them only from iCloud). The only problem is contacts, all the others (Calendars, Apps) are normally syncing. Does anybody has a solution? Sorry.
The iPhone is of no use until/unless the previous owner removes it from their account.
You will need to find the prior owner or return the iPhone.
