Help with syncing my Iphone to my new Macbook pro!

Okay, so I wasn't sure whether to put this in with the iPhone questions or the macbook pro questions but here goes anyways;
So just yesterday I received my macbook pro. My computer before was a Dell, this is really besides the point, but if I am trying to figure my best route to getting the information (music, contacts, etc.) onto my new mac. I am afraid to just plug my iPhone in, because I don't want it to wipe my phone.
If i plug my phone in, will this happen? I'm just not really sure what to do right now. Thank you!

I'm in a similar situation as the OP. Laptop crashed, lost access to my iTunes library. Got a new Mac, repopulated the new library with all my music, audiobooks, etc. Thing is, my iPhone contains only a few hundred of the tens of thousands of songs in my library, almost all of which were ripped from my CD collection (yeah, I'm old) rather than having been purchased through iTunes, so Restore Purchases won't do me much good.
I'm really not interested in having to redo the years-long winnowing process of choosing which music from my collection to put back onto my phone once I sync it to my new machine and library. Nor am I interested in dropping thirty bucks or so on third-party backup software. And I'm *really* not interested in being told that I cannot manage my music, on my devices, with my computer, without having to start from scratch.
So the original question stands: It's not about whether I can sync my iPhone to a new library without losing the media I've put on the phone, but How. To. Do. It. Is there a way to create an index or playlist of what's on the phone prior to the initial sync such that iTunes will restore only those files from the library after it slicks the phone?

    No.
"The computer it is synced to is a dell"
So, copy everything from the Dell to the Mac.
Your iphone will be erased and the content replaced with the content from the new computer.  You need to amke sure that everything is on the new computer.

  • How do i sync my iPhone to a new macbook pro and start a new apple ID?

Ok, so I just go a new macbook pro for college, and what I am trying to do is sync my iphone with my new computer and get all my music etc onto the new mac. But i also want to start a new apple ID.  I previously have had my iphone synced on the family's imac under the family apple id. Now i want to sync that iphone onto my computer and also start my own apple ID linked to my iphone and computer.
I can't figure out how to do this without having to reset the iphone.
( I already created the new ID)
Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

  • How do i sync my iphone to my new Macbook pro?

I recently just purchased a new Macbook Pro and i'd like to be able to sync my iphone to it and use it as my main computer.  Whenever i try to sync it though it says that it has to erase all my content.  This wouldnt be a problem since i backed up my phone on the Macbook and i did Home sharing from my other computer, so all my music, movies, and apps are on my Mac, but im worried its going to mess up all my data on my iphone.  Is it going to erase my contacts, calander events, text conversations, settings, pics, and/or saved data on apps?  If someone could tell me everything that happens when i click erase all data, as well as a possible alternative way of syncing my iphone, i would be very thankful.

Follow this article How to back up your data and set up as a new device
In short: Disable autosync, set up at least one contact and event on your Mac, back up manually, tranfer your purchases, sync and let it get erased, restore from the manual backup you made.

  • Help with 'disappeared' photos after migration to new macbook pro

So I got a lovely new macbook pro and successfully seem to have migrated everything from my old G4 powerbook. But, when I go into iphoto all 3,000 plus pictures have only the slash dotted outline and no images. Any suggestions as how to remedy this. Terence Devlin, you were kind enough to try to help me when I was having trouble with getting my pictures to export edited but we never did figure out the problem, so if you're out there and remember me maybe you can advise me here, as I don't know if anything I did in attempting to resolve that issue would impact the situation now. The pictures still exist on the other computer so it's nothing dire but it's weird to have everything look like it's there (in otherwords, the whole thing is set up exactly as my old one was, with the same albums etc.) but no actual pictures inside.... Thank you!!

    To anwser my own question:
Had to highlight my User Home in finder, and then had to add myself as a user (and click the cogwheel to apply to all files within) and allow myself to 'Read and Write' in permissions.
For some reason, when I migrated across, it didn't add me as a user - even though I was the administrator of both the old and the new MBP!

  • I'm unable to sync my iPhone to my new MacBook Pro.

I bought a MacBook Pro two days ago, and I'm trying to sync my iPhone 4s. It goes through all 6 steps on iTunes, but then a notification pops up and says the required disk cannot be supported. I'm not very 'savvy' with Macs, so I have no clue what this means or what to do. Thanks for any help.

As Bob says, any iMap service can do this. GMail can, iCLoud mail can too.
Both of these can be used with Mail on any device.

  • Syncing my iphone to my new macbook

I just purchased a new MacBook Pro, moving from a PC. My iphone is synced to my PC, how do I sync my iphone to my new macbook without my iphone contacts and calendar being erased? Please help!

Make sure that you have at least one contact and calendar entry in your computer, then when you sync for the first time you will have the option to merge.

  • I have a music library on an iMac and I got a new iPhone and a new MacBook Pro and I want some of the songs from the iMac library to be on my phone and my MacBook Pro and I have a new Apple ID on my phone and my Mac book pro

I have a music library on an iMac and I got a new iPhone and a new MacBook Pro and I want some of the songs from the iMac library to be on my phone and my MacBook Pro and I have a new Apple ID on my phone and my Mac book pro, is this possible if so how do I do it?

Providing specifics on all the ways to do this will take more time than I am willing to spend here these days.  You can do some of this with Home Sharing.  You can transfer the entire library from one computer to another, If you do that you can delete what you don't want from the transferred library.
Quick answer if you use iTunes' default preferences settings: Copy the entire iTunes folder (and in doing so all its subfolders and files) intact to the other drive. Open iTunes and immediately hold down the option (alt) key (shift on Windows) so you get a prompt to select a library, then guide it to the 'iTunes Library.itl' file in the moved iTunes folder. If you put the copied iTunes folder in the default location of Macintosh HD > Users > *User Name* > Music then you don't even need to start with the option key held down, iTunes will automatically look for it there. (Make sure there isn't anything already in the iTunes folder there that you want to keep since you will be replacing it with the one you are moving.)
You do not want to use a new AppleID.  Change the  AppleID on the new phone to the old ID.  Purchases made with one AppleID cannot be transferred to a different one and it will be a royal pain to manage two Apple IDs.
Change iTunes Store account on an iOS device - Log out of your current account with Settings.app > Store (Settings > iTunes & App Stores on iOS 6) > tap on your AppleID. Log in with a different account. Note, turning on automatic downloads or re-download past purchases may tie the device to that account for 90 days - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4627 https://discussions.apple.com/message/18484935 - "In order to change your Apple ID or password for your iCloud account on your iOS device, you need to delete the account from your iOS device first, then add it back using your updated details. (Settings > iCloud, scroll down and hit "Delete Account") When you delete your account, all the data that is synced with iCloud will also be deleted from the device (but not from iCloud), but will be synced back to your device when you login again."

  • How do I transfer my music from my iPhone to my new Macbook Pro?

I'm wondering how I can transfer my music, etc from my iPhone to my new Macbook Pro?

The iphone is not a storage/backup device.  The syncis one way -  computer to iphone.  The only exception is itunes purchases: File>Devices>Transfer Purchases
You should copy everything from your old computer or your backup copy of your old computer to your new one.

  • How do I sync Iphone 5 to new MacBook Pro without deleting what's on iPhone?

I just purchased a new MacBook Pro and I have an iPhone 5 that has been synced with my PC.  When I try and sync the iPhone with the new MacBook ti tells me that it will erase what is on the iPhone and replace it with what is on the MacBook.  I want to sync all that is on the iPhone with the MacBook and not delete what is on the iPhone.
How do I do that without loosing any music, emails, photos, calender appointments, etc.?
Thank you for the help in advance.

A device can only sync with one library at a time.  Ideally you transfer the library from the PC to the Mac so it is still syncing with the same library.
iTunes: How to move [or copy] your music [library] to a new computer [or another drive] - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4527 - a somewhat bewildering and not always easily understandable set of options.
Quick answer if you use iTunes' default preferences settings:  Copy the entire iTunes folder (and in doing so all its subfolders and files) intact to the other drive.  Open iTunes and immediately hold down the Option (alt) key (shift on Windows), then guide it to the new location of the iTunes Library.itl file in the moved iTunes folder.
For the record there's this reference for iTunes 11 but it really doesn't strike me as having the specifics you need. iTunes 11 for Mac: Move your library to another computer - http://support.apple.com/kb/PH12168
Windows users see tip at: https://discussions.apple.com/message/18879381

If you don't have the library anymore then it gets messy.  You will have to use third party software to transfer the phone contents to the Mac and rebuild your library there so its content matches that of the old library so you are syncin the content back to the phone.
Some of the information below has subsequently appeared in a document by turingtest2: Recovering your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device - https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-3991
Your i-device was not designed for unique storage of your media. It is not a backup device and media transfer was planned with you maintaining a master copy of your media on a computer which is itself properly backed up against loss. Syncing is one way, computer to device, updating the device content to the content on the computer, not updating or restoring content on a computer. The exception is iTunes Store purchases which can be transferred to a computer.
iTunes Store: Transferring purchases from your iOS device or iPod to a computer - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1848 - only purchases from iTunes Store
For transferring other items from an i-device to a computer you will have to use third party commercial software. Examples (check the web for others; this is not an exhaustive listing, nor do I have any idea if they are any good):
