Help with the USB Recovery Flash Disk Creation Utility
I've downloaded the utility (http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareDownloadIndex?softwareitem=ob-77449-1&cc=uk&dlc=en&docnam... and encountered no problems. But when I try run it I only get as far the license agreement window. When I click next after accepting the terms I only see a black window flashing once, and thats it.
What OS are you running?
Is your Recovery partition intact?

I can't help you with that specific issue, but if you can't get it resolved and you can read the 25 character Microsoft Windows product key on the bottom of your PC, make your own W7 installation media to reinstall W7.
Here's how:
If you can read the 25 character Microsoft windows 7 product key, you can download plain Windows 7 ISO files to burn to a DVD for the version of windows that came installed on your PC, and that is listed on the Microsoft COA sticker on your PC's case.
Burn the ISO using the Burn ISO option on your DVD burning program and burn at the slowest possible speed your program will allow. This will create a bootable DVD.
Or use the Windows 7 USB/DVD installation tool to compile the ISO file you download from Digital River. Link and instructions below. You need a 4 GB flash drive to use the USB method of compilation.

Use the 25 character product key on the PC to activate the installation.
The key will activate either a 32 or 64 bit installation.
Then go to the PC's support and driver page to install the drivers you need.

Need help with the "Erase Free Space" disk utility
When I use Disk Utilities to Erase Free Space (I use the single zero mode) I get a message telling me,
"Your Startup Disk is almost Full,
you need to make more space available
on your startup disk by deleting files."
This occurs about 90% of the way through the process (based on where the blue bar is at the time) during the "Creating Temporary File" portion of the process. I know from past experience that I will remain in this portion of the process forever unless I press the "Skip" button to complete the process.
My questions,
1. What is the startup disk and why is it full?
2. What should I do about the Your Startup Disk is Almost Full warning?
3. Is my computer actually talking about "regular" disk space (I currently have about 9GB of 80GB free but have seen this warning with 30GB available as well).
4. When I press "Skip" and the blue bar continues to complete the process, have I actually erased free space?

While doing this, OSX may notice the lack of free space on the disk. This is normal, but could cause problems if you are also running some applications that want some disk space. If you let if finish, it should delete the temporary files and free the disk space.
I prefer to run the Disk Utility from the Tiger install disk when doing a Verify, Repair, or Erase Free Space on my boot disk, so I know I won't be interfering with anything running. -
My iphone 4 is stuck on the lock screen with the USB cord pointing to itunes and music notes. I thought I was updating the phone for itunes but it is now teetering on the Recovery Mode. I do not want to lose my data, etc. Can someone explain how I can get my phone back? Apple support is not helpful.
Your phone is in recovery mode. All data on it are already lost. You must connect your phone to your computer and restore through iTunes.

Problems with the Toshiba Recovery Disk Generator program
Hi,
I have a Satellite Pro U400 laptop running XP SP3 - iyes t's old, but still running with newly added memory and a new battery.
I wanted to make a fresh set of recovery disks so I fired up the Toshiba app. It created the first disk fine. Then it prompted for Disk 2. So I put Disk 2 in. It contemplated for a bit, it said it would now create disk 2. Then, it prompts me again for Disk 2. There's no error message or anything. So, I ejected the disk and tried a different one. Several times. It just can't get past this to create disks 2 and 3.
I downloaded an "update" I found on the Toshiba site, but it didn't change anything.
Any suggestions?

I think you mixed up something...
The hidden Windows partition (Recovery Environment) has nothing to do with the Toshiba recovery disk or HDD recovery procedure. This is a Windows feature that is on all PCs and notebooks available so my suggestion is you read this good Wikipedia article about this:

The HDD recovery files are stored on the second partition of the HDD in the folder HDDRecovery. So if you use the HDD recovery function only the first partition will be formatted and you can only use this feature if you have access to the advanced boot menu. If you dont have it you must use the Toshiba recovery disk because the disk formats the whole HDD and restore the factory settings of the notebook (the HDD recovery too but only with the first partition).
You can change the partition size of both partitions but there should be enough free space on both partitions. Otherwise the HDD recovery does maybe not work.

My Apple desktop computer, 2.4 GHz Intel duo core, OS 10.6.8, stopped recognizing the WD My Book connected via firewire. It works fine with the USB port so it's not the drive. Help please?
It can be the bridge. It could need firmware update. or the FW ports may be an issue. LaCie seemed to invent the phrase/tip 'resetting firewire ports' due to the issues with their drive cases.
You can try an SMC Reset.
So far I have avoided name-brand and tend to see them mentioned. Often with a new OS (though you are on 10.6.8, but when 10.6 came out there was a common complaint and thread of users: FW or USB worked but not the other interface). -
Good day, please help do a manual reset on my iphone 4s. I was updating my itunes and all a sudden i discover the USB cord disconnected while updating which later show me itunes logo with the USB cord charger display since yesterday. Tried to upgrading ipad 1 from itunes and l guess it did not complete the process because all I have showing on the ipad is the itunes logo with the usb cable. When l try to connect it to my system, it resquest that a driver be used to install the device. Please help! How do I restore?
Restoration is relatively simplistic. Here's whatcha do. Plug your ipad in, open itunes, now if itunes doesn't recognize it then you may have a problem, anywho, click on the ipad in the devices interface and go to the info tab, click restore, and it'll be just like it was when it left the factory. To get you data back, it should ask if you would like to use a backup, just select the backup you want and you'll be good to go. That is if you regularly backed up your iPad.

Uninstalling Software: The Basics
Most OS X applications are completely self-contained "packages" that can be uninstalled by simply dragging the application to the Trash. Applications may create preference files that are stored in the /Home/Library/Preferences/ folder. Although they do nothing once you delete the associated application, they do take up some disk space. If you want you can look for them in the above location and delete them, too.
Some applications may install an uninstaller program that can be used to remove the application. In some cases the uninstaller may be part of the application's installer, and is invoked by clicking on a Customize button that will appear during the install process.
Some applications may install components in the /Home/Library/Applications Support/ folder. You can also check there to see if the application has created a folder. You can also delete the folder that's in the Applications Support folder. Again, they don't do anything but take up disk space once the application is trashed.
Some applications may install a startupitem or a Log In item. Startupitems are usually installed in the /Library/StartupItems/ folder and less often in the /Home/Library/StartupItems/ folder. Log In Items are set in the Accounts preferences. Open System Preferences, click on the Accounts icon, then click on the LogIn Items tab. Locate the item in the list for the application you want to remove and click on the "-" button to delete it from the list.
Some software use startup daemons or agents that are a new feature of the OS. Look for them in /Library/LaunchAgents/ and /Library/LaunchDaemons/ or in /Home/Library/LaunchAgents/.
If an application installs any other files the best way to track them down is to do a Finder search using the application name or the developer name as the search term. Unfortunately Spotlight will not look in certain folders by default. You can modify Spotlight's behavior or use a third-party search utility, Easy Find, instead. Download Easy Find at VersionTracker or MacUpdate.
Some applications install a receipt in the /Library/Receipts/ folder. Usually with the same name as the program or the developer. The item generally has a ".pkg" extension. Be sure you also delete this item as some programs use it to determine if it's already installed.
There are many utilities that can uninstall applications. Here is a selection:

Hi everyone! I tried to install the new iOs 7 on my iphone 4, but it wasn't completed (showing error 4005). Now, my iphone is stuck on the itunes' logo with the usb cord, and I can't use my phone. And itunes doesn't detect my iphone when I connect it on my computer, so I can't put it in recovery mode or someting like that... What can I do?? I tried everything they tell me to do in the apple support but nothing seems to work. Thank you!

Update: my PC USB hub was connected to a USB 3 port, I connected the 30 pin cable directly to my PC, And the restore worked just fine. Restored phone from iCloud backup and seems to be working fine.
