Help with uninstalling Mountain Lion .. back to Lion

A few weeks ago I installed ML and after further review, I really want to revert back to Lion instead.  Without going into great specifics, I just liked Lion much bettter.  I have tried to research such a task, but to no avail.  I am on an 2011 imac running 10.8.  I have a little experience (little being the operative word here), Macs .. but, please be gentle .. not enough to do this.
How can I uninstall ML to eventually get myself back to Lion?
Thanks so much!

If your iMac came with 10.6 disks then you can hold c boot (backup your personal info first off the machine, not to TimeMachine!) and use that to erase the entire internal drive and install 10.6
Then call Apple via phone and say you want to upgrade to 10.7 as they still sell it to those who can only upgrade to 10.7, however they might review your records and see your able too or already upgraded to 10.8 and deny you.
Since 10.7 can only be installed via Apple download, they contol if you can go back or not.
If you can find a 10.7 USB Thumb drive on eBay or Amazon, then you can use that (hold option key and boot from it) as it's a 2011 iMac.
Howver again you need to make sure the boot drive is completely erased, there is a couple of hidden partitions that need to be erased so they are back to 10.7 state.
Again don't use TimeMachine for restoring your data, it only works on 10.8 now that you have updated it. If you didn't connect your 10.7 TimeMachine then it's  still good to restore from, provided you erase the boot drive and install 10.7 first.

i am trying to update my mac book pro with the mountain lion software. i have purchased this in my mac app store but do not see where to go from here to install... anyone know what to do? do i not have enough space to install the update? how do i tell?

What year is your MacBook Pro? Need to make sure you have the hardware spec for Mt. Lion. You should also consider 8GB of memory for reasonable performance.
Find how much storage: Apple Menu > About this Mac > More Info... > Storage
If you are within 80% of filling your current drive, you may have enough to install Mt. Lion, but the subsequent installation will not perform well due to storage saturation.
Before you update to Mountain Lion, you should do one last software update on Lion, then run Disk Utility and verify/repair permissions. Then back-up your home directory for safety, even though a Mt. Lion upgrade will not disturb your home directory.
If Mountain Lion actually did download, the installer is placed in your /Application folder as, Install OS X Mountain Lion. If you want a bootable USB Mountain Lion installer, now is the time to make it with Lion Diskmaker and a empty 8GB USB stick. After you run the Mountain Lion installer, it will de-install itself. Like Lion, you still have a bootable Recovery partition.

  • Help with downloading Mountain Lion with redemption code, please

I bought a new MacBook Pro. I was able to get a redemption code, but I don't know where to plug in the redemption code. I've been on the App store web site, but I don't see where to put in the code. Also, if my OS says version 10.8, do I already have it installed?

Launch the MAS app and click on the redeem link. Then, follow the directions.

home sharing does not work with new mountain lion update. Does anyone else have the same issue. Updated all computers in my home, deauthorized and reauthorized each computer. turn off home sharing and turned it back on. don't know what else to do..please help...

Our Apple TVs continue to lose connection ever since installing Mountain Lion on the host computer. The only thing that fixes them is to quit and relaunch iTunes, which only works unti the ATV goes to sleep. If a movie is paused for more than a few minutes and the ATV goes to sleep, pressing play again on the remote is greeted with "There are no movies on this computer" or "Turn on Home Sharing."
If we stop a video on one ATV and attempt to resume it in another room, the error begins again. The other ATV can't connect until iTunes is relaunched.
My guess is that it has something to do with the new [annoying] security settings. But I still haven't found a fix other than restarting iTunes everytime we want to watch something from our downloads. Fail.

  • How do I uninstall mountain lion and reinstall snow leopard

If I had known that I would not be able to use my excel files I would not have purchased OSX Mountain Lion.  Is there a way to uninstall mountain lion and reinstall snow leopard?
    Thank you,

To get more to the point the answer is the only way to go back to SnowLeopard is if you have a complete backup of your system from before the upgrade.
If you do you would boot off your original SL DVD wipe the disk and install SL and then restore from your SL backups.
Short of that here is no way to go back. But as the others have offered there are other less drastic means to deal with the problem.
    regards

  • How do uninstall Mountain Lion OS

How do I uninstall Mountain Lion and go back to Snow Leopard

Downgrade Lion/Mountain Lion to Snow Leopard
    1.  Boot from your Snow Leopard Installer Disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button.  When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu.
    2. After DU loads select your hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Note the SMART status of the drive in DU's status area.  If it does not say "Verified" then the drive is failing or has failed and will need replacing.  SMART info will not be reported  on external drives. Otherwise, click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
    3. Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed.
    4. Quit DU and return to the installer. Install Snow Leopard.
This will erase the whole drive so be sure to backup your files if you don't have a backup already. If you have performed a TM backup using Lion be aware that you cannot restore from that backup in Snow Leopard (see below.) I suggest you make a separate backup using Carbon Copy Cloner 3.4.1.
If you have Snow Leopard Time Machine backups, do a full system restore per #14 in Time Machine - Frequently Asked Questions.  If you have subsequent backups from Lion, you can restore newer items selectively, via the "Star Wars" display, per #15 there, but be careful; some Snow Leopard apps may not work with the Lion files.

  • Apple MacBook Pro 13" 2012 with OS Mountain Lion ships standard with iWorks?

We recently purchased an Apple MacBook Pro 13" new, but from a recommended third party seller because we needed the 2012 version with OS Mountain Lion on it due to Pro Tools incapatability with Maverick.  Our Apple consultant told us that all Laptops ship standard with iWorks, but our college student who we purchased it for, says it is not on the laptop & that no software was included except what was already installed on the laptop.   Is this typical now with Apple, that you have to go & download your own software from the ITunes App store?  And is there a purchaser's code or something showing that there is no additional charge for the software?  Please help!  These laptops are expensive & should come with the typical Apple tools & software!  Also missing iPhoto, is this the same condition or did the seller rip us off?

Just a caution when reading this forum for ML information ...
Over 3 million have downloaded ML.  Count the number of "complaints and b*tching" like some in this thread, and you will find the number in the thousands.  Simple math will tell you how many users have enough of an issue, real or imagined, to actually say so.  Most users who are happy are too busy just using it to say anything.
Now, as a reminder, you can download ML and load it on an external drive.  That way you can play with it to see what issues *you* may have based on your specific uses.  Of course external drives will respond more slowly than internal drives, but you should know if certain applications do not open.
Also, check this site for applications that simply do not work under ML as "research": http://roaringapps.com/apps:table

Only way is if you made a backup of your system before you installed Mt Lion.
Or if your system came with Lion Pre-Installed you boot to the online recovery system, Hold down Command+option+r at startup until you see a spinning globe in the center of the screen.

  • Is there an application like "snag it" for mac?  Does it come with the Mountain Lion OS, or do I have to buy it separately?

Is there an application like "snag it", which is part of the Microsoft Office suite for mac?  Does it come with the Mountain Lion OS, or do I have to buy it separately?  If it is a separate purchse, what would you recommend?

Built-in to OS X is the ability to capture an entire screen or selected portions. Snaps are saved to the Desktop by default:
    COMMAND-SPACE-3 snaps the entire screen.
COMMAND-SPACE-4 lets you select a portion of the screen to snap.
In your Utilities folder is a utility called Grab that provides similar functionality and more.
Then there are dozens of third-party solutions such as SnapNDrag and SnapzProX. You will find them and others at MacUpdate or CNET Downloads. Most have trial versions or trial times so you can test them out.
