Help with video card drivers, etc.

I just bought a MSI GeForce4 ti4600 8x agp, but I cant get it to install as that card with the newer nvidia drivers.  I'm stuck on the cd drivers, v.3100 because I cant seem to change to the newest ones (43.45), since every time i install them it changes my card to a geforce4 ti4800.  i've tested it in 3dmark, and it seems i lose about 100 3dmark points if i update the drivers.  someone please help me find out whats wrong, or what i can do.
windows 2000
epox 8k5a+ mobo
amd athlon xp 2000+
geforce 4 ti4600 8xagp

Losing or gaining a few hundred marks is quite usual when changing drivers. Im guessing you havn't changed the BIOS since you've just got the card. All i would suggest is that you remove the display drivers (control panel - add/remove programs) and reload with the standard PCI display adapter. Then try a fresh install of the newer drivers.
See if that works, oh and btw, don't bother with the 43.45 drivers, they are terrible! go for 41.09, they're solid. You will lose the MSI display tabs but use coolbits if you haven't already, works just as well.
Best of luck!

  • Thinkpad t420s - Help with video card on Ubuntu 11.04

    Hi,
I just purchsed a Lenovo t420s with the following system specs:
Intel Core i7-2620M Processor (2.70GHz, 4MB L3,1333MHz FSB) with Intel
    14.0" HD+ (1600 x 900) LED Backlit Antiglare Display, Mobile Broadband Ready
NVIDIA Quadro NVS4200M Optimus technology (1GB)
    6 GB PC3-10600 DDR3 SDRAM 1333MHz SODIMM Memory (2 DIMM)
128GB Solid State Drive, Serial ATA
    Intel WiFi Link 1000
It's a really good machine, but unfortunately I am having problems making it work with Ubuntu 11.04. I am a long-term Linux user, a python developer and a supporter of open source software, I cannot use Windows for my purposes and  I need help to enable my vide card drivers.
I did a fresh install of Ubuntu 11.04 on my system, and updated all packages. I then installed the ltest Nvidia drivers available, and ensured that Optimus is disabled in the BIOS. After rebooting, nvidia-settings complained that my system isn't configured to rnu the drivers and I must run nvidia-xconfig so I did.
After running nvidia-xconfig, my system wouldn't want to run Xorg, and stayed in terminal mode. I checked the xorg log and found this:
(!!) More than one possible primary device found
    (II) Primary Device is:
    (EE) No devices detected.
    Fatal server error:
    no screens found
I saw something about this error here : ftp://download.nvidia.com/XFree86/Linux-x86/270.41.03/README/README.txt
I am running version 1.7 ov xorg, so this should be fixed. I tried to nvidia-xconfig --enable-all-gpus but it still wouldn't work.
The Ubuntu market is now at about 15 million Desktop users, and many more with other Linux distributions, I think Lenovo would greatly benefit by contributing to Ubuntu and helping the software be compatible with the hardware they sell.
Could someone please help me with this?
    Kind regards,
    Benoit

This will not help, but I recently tried 11.04 on a
Z560 (with just intel graphics) and had no luck
getting it to work. Previous versions work fine.
Is there any other linux distro that will serve your purpose?

  • Help with Video Card Install on Solaris 8

I have a video card with nvidia4 chipset. After installing solaris 8 on my system I get a screen that is too big to fit on the monitor, so I have to scroll down to see everything. Plus it displays 16 colors. I tried to install the FreeBSD drivers that are availble on the nvidia site but could not run "make" command. Anyone know how to solve this?

    There are two options:
    1. Install the latest Solaris 8 x86 video driver patch109401-14
    available at:
    http://sunsolve.sun.com/pub-cgi/show.pl?target=patches/xprod-Solaris_x86IntelDrivers&nav=pub-patches
This may add native support for your nvidia chipset. If it doesn't,
then you have the option to try the new VESA driver which is
included with this patch as well - the VESA driver is supposed to work
on all cards that have the necessary VESA support bios routines.
    2. Install the "Solaris XFree86 Video Drivers and Porting Kit"
    http://soldc.sun.com/developer/support/driver/tools/video/video-index.html
It adds support for many video cards by using XFree 4.2.0 video
driver modules. It also includes another variant of the VESA driver.

  • Need help with video card for my dual 1.8 G5

Ok, I've spent the last hour and a half searching around and really haven't found what I was looking for, although, it's probably right under my nose and I'm a moron. Anyways, here goes...
I have a dual 1.8 G5 and I'd like to add an extra video card. From what I've read, the "stock" location for the video card is AGP, but all three of the other expansion slots are all PCI-X, is that correct? I also, thought I had read that a Radeon 9200 PCI or a Sonnet Sonata SD will work in the PCI-X slot, is that true for just those particular video cards or will any PCI card work? If that's not the case, does any body know what options I have? I've spent a lot of time lurking on these forums and you guys have helped tremendously in the past, so I thank you in advance for any help you guys can give.
    Aaron

    Hi,
That G5 Mac will accommodate 66/33MHz Mac Edition PCI cards.
•The Sonnet Sonata is a 16MB VRAM card and will work in either a 33 or 66MHz slot, so it's okay. Slow, but okay.
•The ATI RADEON 9200 PRO 128MB MAC EDITION PCI card is a better choice because it has 128MB VRAM and is much faster. Unfortunately it's difficult to find new ones at the moment. There are several used ones on Fleabay right now for under $89.
•There are other PCI cards that will work too, like the ATI Radeon 7000 Mac Edition 32MB PCI model as seen on Fleabay as item # 200046086081. That's probably your cheapest choice.
Just make SURE you get a Mac Edition, a PC type will not work.
Adding another PCI card will have zero effect on graphic performance of the AGP video card. Each AGP or PCI slot stands alone, and will only affect the monitor it's attached to. PCI slots are much slower than AGP slots (8X slower) in G5's.
    Regards,
    Dave

  • Need help with video card

    Hello guys,
My Radeon 9500 pro was having some major problems, so I just sent it in to be returned, and ordered an G4Ti4200-VTD8X. The only problem is when I took the Radeon 9500 pro out, I forgot to unistall the drivers, So wouldn't that screw it all up, or should I just put it in the AGP slot, uninstall the older Radeon drivers, and download the latest drivers from Nvidia's website?
    Thanks!

Thanks a lot for all your help!
Reset Configuration Data (my understanding) will reset hardware data stored and managed by the BIOS. It can eliminate problems should a "no boot" situation occur.
I use it anytime I change hardware just to be safe.
In conjunction, I also set the BIOS setting "Plug and Play Aware OS" to NO in order to let the BIOS manage hardware instead of the OS.
As far as the drivers, there should be an archive available. If not then there are quite a few websites that host and archive previous versions of Detonators.
Guru3D is one of many. Try a Google search and you'll see.
The MSI drivers are basically the same core drivers but slightly modified in order to add MSI tabs for the clock speeds and such but often do not work properly and can cause problems. If you need to have clock settings enabled, the Coolbits registry entry will work just fine.
You can find that here in the MM forum if you search using coolbits as the keyword. It can also be found on the net.

  • Need help with video card purchase

I have a MS 6565 GNB Max mobo. Does anybody know if the MSI FX 5900 will fit the board (ie northbridge and memory) and run at AGP 8x, I currently have an MSI 4400 so length should not be an issue.
    Thanks for the help!

I have asked my contact at MSI, I will post when I get an answer.
Otherwise another user may have the same setup and be able to tell you right away.
    Stay tuned.........

  • Mac Mini video card drivers Win 7 64 bit sp1

I was running OSX 10.6.4 and dual booting with Vista 64 bit when Vista crashed.  I went out and purchased Win 7 64 bit SP1 OEM version.  I used bootcamp to install this sucesfully but whatever I seem to try I cannot find/install the correct driver for the graphics card in Win 7.  It still defaults to Standard VGA Graphics Adapter 1280 x 1024.
I moved from the U.S to Thailand but forgot to bring my bootcamp disc  (Otherwise I might not even be writing this post).  I purchased a copy of Snow Lepoard 10.6.3 which has bootcamp 3.1 on it but still not the correct video card drivers.  I have also upgraded bootcamp to 3.2 and 3.3 and tried all the Win 7 updaates but to no avail.  I have tried to install manually from bootcamp on the DVD, I have read a few forums with the same issue but it tends to be a MacBook Pro and not a Mac Mini issue.  I have also instaleld Nvidia 285.38 and 285.62 drivers and both of these give me a black screen, so I know these are not the correct drivers.
I purchased my Mac Mini in Nov of 2010 and its a model MC270LL/A.  If I look in OSX I can see my video card is the
    Nvidia Geforce 320 M
    Vendor - NVIDIA (0x10de)
    Device ID 0x08a4
    Revision ID 0x00a2
    Rom Revision 3546.
I am not sure why this has to be so difficult but it is!  Any help would be appreciated.  Thanks so much.

    There's a complicated driver issue.
    I'm also a user of Mac mini(2010, server) with windows7 x64.
    My experience is:
The only newest nvidia driver for daily using without trouble is 267.76.
If you want to use 27x~ 285.62/285.79,
your primary monitor must be connected to Mac mini with miniDisplayPort-VGA adapter,
I got the same black screen with applying HDMI port as primary.
If you upgrade to 290.36/295.51(the latest one),
you can prevent black screen with HDMI port, sounds good, right?
But as long as you update to any of the newest two drivers,
you will suffer BSOD(Blue Screen of Death, abnormally reboot, error code:0x116) during checking Windows index
or just watching HD movies, that anything may cause GPU malfunction.
    Referece thread:http://forums.nvidia.com/index.php?showtopic=215256
I still searching the solution because the HDMI 1.4a 3D supporting of my projector was begun from 285.62.
I always got BSOD when I want to enjoy Blu-ray 3D films.

Tried a battery removed CMOS clear and reset after the UEFI/BIOS update? Tested with another PSU? Tried with just one RAM stick in the primary dimm slot, or with just two sticks?
    Results
1 Stick DDR3 - Freezes in "Starting Windows" screen when video card (HD 7850) installed.  Still works correctly with Integrated.
1 Stick DDR3 + swapping out CoolerMaster 500 Watt PSU for "Power" 500 Watt PSU - Freezes in "Starting Windows" screen with video card.  Using Integrated video, works correctly.
This is on an unflashed H67A-G43 (B3) new out of the box.

Did you find solution to your problem ^

  • Video card drivers location?

Hello. I have a pop up message when trying to run Firestorm virtual world client in Windows 7 (in Boot Camp on new MacBook Pro).
It says that the 'video card drivers did not install properly'
So i opened device manager and scrooled down the list and no 'video card' listed on menu but everything is all up to date except Other Device - Coprocessor and SM Bus Controller.
Right clicked to update these but no fix found online :-(
Could this be the problem though?
Or does some windows only application not run on a Mac even in Boot Camp?
    Thanks.

If you have a new Mac you also have Lion, or Mountain Lion. This means you do not have a disk, because there isn't one. Go back to Boot Camp, try again, the servers are notoriously erratic, be patient.

  • I had a problem with imac screen going black. apple store diagnosed prob with video card which they replaced. Brought it home, turned it on (have done this 4 times) it starts up, wheel turns, there is a long bar at bottom which fills up, then it turns off

Apple guarantees their work, take it back.

  • Need help with Video Categories Movies, Music Videos, ETC.

Is there anyway to put ripped videos into other categories besides just Movies? I would like to put some of them under Music Videos, is that possible?

Neither Quicktime Pro or iTunes have the ability to successfully encode a muxed video file with audio. You'll end up with video and no audio.
You'll need to use some other third-party software to do the conversion. There's a handful of software available. Just search the forums and you'll find many titles mentioned.
Videora iPod Converter seems to be popular amongst Windows users, although I've read that you might get mixed results using it.

  • G505 problems with video cards.

    Lenovo G505, 59-419907, AMD A6-5200, AMD Radeon R5 M230
I suffer second day. I downloaded a lot of different drivers.
    several times reinstalled windows 8.1.
after installing windows in my Device Manager, there is a Standard VGA Graphics Adapter and unknown video device
when I try to install vga drivers from the Lenovo site, or from the AMD site, both graphics card become with the error icon
     - Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43)
Catalyst does not see the video card with an error
if I'm disable in the BIOS a discrete video card everything is OK.
as soon as I'm in the BIOS to turn on an external video card in the device manager both cards an error.
I tried to put the first driver on the onboard video card and then on the outside. nothing helps.
please help me before I killed myself.

I have a same problem, I bought g505 (bios 3.00) but the wifi not work after few days. I think upgrade the bios, but on the official website was 2.04 version (i not understand, because i have 3.00, i think  "downgrade" it), now my bios is 2.04 but the switchable graphics not work, only other option (i not remember it, maybe UMA) work, and I can't finde the 3.00 bios.
Thank for the answer, and sorry my English

  • Problems with video card in CS4

I'm having what I think is video problems since I switched to CS4. No problems with CS3 before, or any other programs except CS4, now. Frequent apparent redraws leave remnants on screen, panels move back and forth, etc.
I have a Dell Precision 490 with 4gb ram and a nVidia Quadra fx 550 with 128 megs of ram. Open GL is enabled. I have loaded all the latest nVidia drivers.
If this sounds like a video card problem, can anyone recommend a good, not too expensive card? I don't play any games, just use the machine for PS. ID and Flash mostly.
    Thanks in advance.
    Jon

I am having the same problem with CS3 and CS4. Any luck on fixing your problem?
    Thanks
