Help with broken? macbook. Boot commands dont work.

I have an old macbook that is from late 2008 and is kinda old. First time it did 3 beeps (ram error) So i exchanged the ram and now it starts. But i get stuck at greyscreen, and sometimes at a flashing folder with a Question mark.
I did try to go through the community here but i cant use any of the commands people are recommending..
Command + Alt + R dont work
Alt during boot dont work.
Command + alt wont work... No commands do anything except leaving a blank screen and a cursor.
If i dont hold any keys during boot i eventually get the flashing questionmark folder.
Any suggestions?
Can i reinstall it from a USB and how do i do it if i cant use the bootup commands? :S
(The keyboard seems to work so that cant be the issue)

Cannot help with troubleshooting since you do not know which OS is installed on your comp. If you purchased your MBP from a private party, ask them. Better yet, did the previous owner provide you w/the DVDs that originally came w/the MBP? If not, you purchased a glorified door stop.
If none of the suggestions in the KB Article work out, take the MBP to your local AS or an AASP.
There is nothing more for me to suggest until you determine which OS you are working with and you have possession of the system DVDs that originally came w/the MBP.

Help with volume and screen rotation.

Having trouble with volume and rotation. I have gone through the setting and made changes to lock screen and mute, but now it seems I have to choose between the two. The switch on the side also is not working. Any suggestions?

Help with 2009 13inch MacBook Pro Hard Drive!!!

My hard drive recently died on me and I'm new to everything about hard drives. To replace my old hard drive, I purchased a Seagate Momentus Laptop 320GB 5400RPM 8MB Cache. Is this the right one to buy for basic usage?
Also, when I turn on my computer, there is a flashing folder with a question mark in it, this happened initially when my hard drive died. Is this happening because I need to install the installation CDs?
Please, any help would be great!

That hard drive should work on your MacBook Pro. A question mark appears when your MacBook doesn't find any bootable partition to start, so you can't use your MacBook. To fix it:
1. Replace the hard disk, insert the OS X disc and press C key while your Mac is starting.
2. Go to Utilities > Disk Utility, select your hard disk in the sidebar and go to Partition tab.
3. Select Options and choose GUID Partition Table. Then, press OK, select Mac OS Extended (Journaled) in Format, and select Apply.
4. Install OS X. When the installation finishes, open  > Software Update and update to the latest version

Need help with volume I can't get rid of and terminal

I own a external HD named "elements". One day a second volume appeared named "elements". Every time I tried to save files to my external HD they were written on this mysterious volume. The volume isn't showed on my desktop - only when I try to save something with Opera (browser) or in the terminal I can see it.
I renamed my external HD so I can write files to it. So far so good.
But how can I get rid of this volume? The finder does not show it. Spotlight does noch find it. Only in the terminal I can see this volume and I can see the files in it.
the terminal command "diskutil eject /volumes/elements" or "diskutil unmount force /volumes/elements" did not help.

It sounds like a "false clone" was created on your internal HD, which can happen if the target volume of a backup program becomes unavailable during the copy process.
Try this:
First eject and disconnect all external drives, then:
Finder>Go menu> Go to Folder
enter /Volumes and click Go
Don't touch the alias to your internal HD volume, or any other alias.
If you see "elements," and it is NOT an alias, trash it and empty the trash.

Need help with my new Macbook

Haii there.
Got a brand new MBP some weeks ago, and has caused trouble for a week now
Offen when im just using Itunes or something like that, the music stops, program goes into retard "No responding"-mode and im stuck with the loading curser. Then i've tried to just leave it like that, but doesnt help anything, and at somepoint i have to turn off the power by holding the powerbutton down. Then when I try to start it up again i get stuck in the gray loading screen... Read some posts about this, which to me to start it up from the disc, cant make this work. When its starting and the loading bar starts it runs for a while and then turns off the computer.
I really bought a Mac because I thought the were stable for my school work, so looking for help.
Anyone out there who can help me?

First off your Macbook Pro is under Apple Care and they are obligated to fix it for ya.
If you are skeptical to to boot from Disk and run Disk Utilities then you should call Apple for their assistance.

Help with backing up Macbook Pro C2D

Hi - I've been searching around the Internet and have come across countless threads about backing up a Macbook Pro, but most seem to be outdated.
My wife has a Macbook Pro 15" Core 2 Duo which is currently running 10.4.11. We've been throwing around the idea of upgrading, but decided we'll just update the OS (so we can use iTunes/sync iPhone). I've read a lot of the same suggestion - backup the hard drive. This has never been done on this laptop, so I am most certainly overdue.
With that being said, what is the easiest (and preferrably cheapest) way to backup my entire laptop? I don't own any external harddrives, but I would be willing to purchase if it's the cheapest option. Cloud storage would be great, but I'm not sure which companies provide the best service (some I've seen only backs up data like pictures and documents, not the actual OS and applications). I don't have a 10.4 CD in case the 10.6 install fails. I also don't have any of my software CDs such as Microsoft Office.
I'm open to any suggestions and I apologize for my post - I'm sure it's something that comes up often, but I want to make sure I have current feedback.

Courcoul, thanks so much for your help. I'm currently searching for an external harddrive w/ Firewire - they certainly try to trick the consumer with selling a USB 3.0 with the option to "upgrade" to firewire.
A 500GB drive should do it, which would you recommend out of these options:

Need help with a 2007 macbook

i just got my macbook and i went to change the settings so that i would have a password protected loggin and when i did i went to check if it worked. when i turn it on it now sends me to a blue screen that has only a loading symbol at the bottom and a gear with the words " DeploStudio Finalize script log " spelt exactly like that. none of my buttons seem to be doing anything so if anyone knows what this is and could help me out i would very much appreciate it.

It acts like you have a failed installation of something (maybe deploy studio) trying to finish. Can you get to the major top menu (the apple in the top left corner)? If so, select apple > Force Quit .. then force any running program except Finder to quit. Does that kill the problem? If so, then figure out what the bad program is and uninistall it. How to do that will depend on the program.

Need help with battery on Macbook A1181.

I have a Macbook A1181, with removable battery. I just recently did a clean install, so not sure if I have to install anything for this and that's why it's causing problems?
When I plug in the adapter I get a quick blue light then it stays orange. When I'm logged on it says (not charging) next to the battery icon. Then under Condition it says: replace now. When I first turned it on after the install it had a X through the battery icon but then 5 or 6 updates installed and I restarted and it's now giving me this problem above. Hoping something maybe needs to be re installed or something? Thanks for any help. Never dealt with Mac so clueless.

You can get a new third party battery fairly cheap on eBay. Every MacBook from 2006 through Mid 2009 except the Late 2008 Aluminum Unibody and the Late 2009 and 2010 White Unibodies use the same A1185 battery.

Hi, we have a macbook air MC966LZ/A model A1369 - core i5 1.7 GHz, 4 GB RAM, 256 GB SSD. We require to upgrade the hard drive to 500 GB or 750 GB, Could you please tell us which would be the best compatible option? Well my blackberry curve 8520 is an exellent phone but i am facing a problem with a feature and i appreciate someones help.
well the side +volume button is not working and i have no volume at all using the headset andthe speakerphone and im a evryday music listner.

Help with volume slider for video player

I'm trying to set up a slider that will adjust the volume of
the video that is playing. I currently have a slider that adjusts
the progress of the video that works just fine. I set my volume
slider up the same way (as far as making it slide and the bounds
it's contained within) but it fails to actually be draggable. I
click on the slider and it disappears from view instead of allowing
me to drag it. It's been a while since I've done any AS work and
I'm struggling to figure out the problem here as everything appears
to be correct. Any help would be greatly appreciated. You can view

Obviously for a teenager she will be using it for facetime and the like. It would also be used for school work and games. She is not a big gamer, but does like the Sims 3.
My first question is are the specs ok? And other than the memory, which I plan to upgrade to 8, is ther anything I should look for? Is 2.4 ghz enough or do I need to get a faster processor?

It appears that you have selected a refurbished late 2011 MBP. About three weeks ago I got may late 2011 17" refurbished MBP. Excellent machine and it is the third refurbished one I have gotten. I consider that a fiscally prudent approach in purchasing a MBP.
The MBP that you have chosen is a good performer and the addition of RAM is a wise move. I think your daughter should be just fine with this unit.
Mt Lion is new to me and there are several aspects that do not thrill me. If the MBP is shipped with Lion, do not be in a rush to upgrade but DO get the upgrade code so that if you do decide later to install the new OS, you will not have to pay for it. Just to be on the safe side, query Apple support if there is a time limit to redeem the code.
