Help with VPN (DSL/PPoE)

Here is my network:
Speedstream 4200 Modem (DSL over PPoE) -> Cisco RV220w
I have created a QuickVPN client on the RV220w but when I use the public facing IP address and try to connect using these credentials, I just get a 'remote host cannot be reached' type of error. Is anyone familiar with the Speedstream 4200 modem? Do I need to change it to BRIDGE mode or change something so that it'll work with the RV220?

The modem is now in BRIDGE mode so the RV220w now has the public IP. I've followed the router admin guide to add a QuickVPN client and used the QuickVPN client software on an XP machine outside of the network to try and connect. I get the usual "failed to establish a connection" error message. And yes, I've disabled the Windows firewall on this machine.
I really need someone to hand hold me to get this set up, or at least point me to some pretty detailed walkthroughs online.

Need help with Verizon DSL & Windows XP

I am personally running Verizon FIOS without any problems. However, my father-in-law still has Verizon DSL, which he has been using without any problems for the last 4 years until now.
To make the long story short, it seems that the LAN card that came with his old Dell PC died. I pulled it (there is no LAN NIC on the motherboard), and installed a new LAN card, which supports 10/100 MBps and is RoHS complient. However, for some unknown still to us reason, he is getting the LAN "Limited Connection" error.
I have tried everything I could think of, and spent over 6 hours with 3 different Verizon DSL tech support folks. However, we cannot even get to 192.168.1.1 (which is the address of the Westell 6100). I have tried even slowing the LAN card to 10 Mbps / Half-Duplex (or Full). TCP/IPv4 is set to obtain IP / DNS automatically and etc... It's also set to DHCP.
We know fo sure that his Verizon DSL connection does work. Why? Because when I plugged in the same Ethernet cable into a laptop that I brought with me, we had an instant Internet connection (running Windows 7).
So it must be something within Windows XP that is blocking access. I am trying to do everything to not having for him to buy a new computer at this time and save the current system.
I have deleted any and all Network cards drivers in the Control Panel / System / Devices. I have NOT messed with any registry tricks, but am now willing.
Any and all help with suggestions is greately appreciated.

Best guess is that you need a WindowsXP compatible driver for your new LAN card. You definitely need a driver, so if you "deleted any and all Network cards drivers" it isn't going to work. Go to the company website for the new LAN card and they should have a suitable driver.
There should not be any need to mess with the registry.

Help with Airport, DSL, PPPoE

Here is the deal: I have a DSL connection in my iMac with a DSL modem (Trendnet TDM-300) and PPPoE connection. The Internet works when I use a cable directly plugged to my iMac but when I create a Network (The imac is connected via Ethernet to the Airport and I use a PowerBook for Wireless) with my Airport Extreme, I can't connect to the internet althoght the Airport network is OK. It appears "Looking for PPPoE host...".
I recently upgraded the Airport Firmware to 5.7 and I'm using Tiger.
Any help??

I have made this work but it took some doing and my experience may be of some help to others.
Befor entering the world of PPPoE my set up was as follows.
Airport Extreme
connected wirelessly to a G4 powerbook
connected WAN to an ADSL modem
connected LAN to a hub and a desktop G4 and printers
all working fine
I purchase a "NOW" radio modem ( the modem connects using radio to a local cell) This uses PPPoE to make the connection to the internet. It is not the same as airport
In the end I used this procedure to get it working
1) Turn Airport off
2) Connect the radio modem to my laptop with an ethernet cable
3) Go to system preferences - network - Built in ethernet - AppleTalk and turn appletalk off
4) Go to PPPoE and turn it on and as a minimum enter you Account name and Password
5) Press the Apply Now button you should see activity on the LAN and WAN lights if you have them on your modem
6) In your web browser go to the internal page of the modem in my case 192.168.1.1 and set up the same user name and password. You may be able to confirm that this is accepted from within this page.
7) Either way confirm that you can access the internet from this computer only
8) Disconnect the ethernet cable from your computer and plug it into the WAN side of your Airport ( In my case I was replacing the ADSL lead with the Radio Modem lead)
9) On you computer turn "connect using PPPoE" off and turn Airport on
10) Lunch AirPort Admin Utility . app which is in Utilities select your base station and press the configure button enter password if necessary
11) In the Internet tab select connect using "PPP over Ethernet (PPPoE)" enter your (ISP)account name and press the change password button in this dialog enter your (ISP)password twice tick the Always stay connected and leave all the rest as they are
12) In the Network tab tick Distribute IP addresses and activate. Share a single IP address (using DHCP and NAT) If you are your own network and you do not care what your internal IP address is you can leave the rest of this page as it is. If it does mater to you I assume you use one of the options in the pop up. this is confusing as there is a lot of talk about using the router ie Airport as a bridge but you do not and you do issue IP addresses to your net work but not to the Modem.
13) Just about there now hit the update button and let the new settings update the Airport base station (router). At this stage you might have expected it to work but it did not for me
14) Quite AirPort Admin Utility . app and lunch the AirPort Setup Assistant.app
15) Select change settings on an existing AirPort Base Station make sure it is your base station and log in accept all the settings and on the last page update the base station.
This done I can connect to the internet from my laptop via airport from my desk top via ethernet, I can communicate between my two computer using appletalk and I can print to my ethernet printers.

Cisco Pix 501 - Need help with VPN passthrough

Greetings!
Currently I have a Cisco Pix 501 version 6.3(1) which is in front of my Windows Server 2008 box. I am fairly new to firewalling, especially with the Cisco Pix; I have been able to accomplish some port forwarding for CCTV camera software, etc. but am coming to a standstill attempting to connect a company laptop (Windows 7 Professional) to the server via VPN.
Previously we had another facility which was able to connect through VPN but it has since been removed (and always seemed to not be very stable to begin with - though it was connecting to a Server 2003 box rather than 2008).
I have been through several articles both here and other forums and have attempted several of the proposed fixes. I'm almost sure at this point I've probably opened up more of my firewall then necessary and may have duplicate information attempted to complete this passthrough. My Server 2008 resides at 192.168.1.15, below is what I have thus far. The "crypto map" sections were all completed long before I took over, I believe this is how the old VPN was set up. What I have added since beginning this endevour is the "fixup protocol pptp 1723", the "access-list" entries relating to both pptp and gre, and the "static (inside, outside)" relating to the pptp.
I am still continuously getting an error on the laptop of "800" whenever I try to connect to the VPN. Any help would be greatly appreciated as I am rapidly losing hair attempting to get this situated.

Config looks good to me.
I would actually upgrade your PIX to the latest version of 6.3.x if you still have access to the software center as this PIX is on its EOL and you are running an extremely old version of code.
If you place your Windows server bypassing the PIX temporarily, I assume you are able to connect to the VPN?

I contacted all ready the Apple support, but they don't support VPN issues.
So, maybe one of your can help me and point me in the right direction. At home I have an SBS Server 2003 and a NAS System. Within the local network I can access my NAS and my data on the SBS Server via the Finder without any problem. From outside via OSX VPN connection I can access all data with Filezilla, running under OSX. But with the own Apple OSX Server connection ftp:\\192.168.XXX.XXX I have only the rights to read. And only if I connected via VPN. With smb:\\192.168.XXX.XXX I can read and write via VPN connection, but it is much too so slow for useage.
Is there any thing I can do to get it work, or does I have to use further Filezilla to get the job done.
By the way, when I connect from Windows XP on parallels via VPN I can read and write fils thru the windows explorer. Only the Finder in OSX gives me this trouble.

Perhaps your enquiry was focused on a VPN issue when infact it was an FTP issue.
Question is: Can I create a shortcut or alias on the desktop to have fast access to the root of NAS. I could only got one folder by folder as alias to the desktop, but not the NAS itself
you can create a clickable link I use a safari to do this
In the address bar of safari type
smb://user:password@serveradress
replace user:password with your actual username and pasword for that server and use the correct server address. dont press enter but click on the favicon(globe) to the left of the address and drag it to your desktop. This will make a clickable link on your desktop.

Help with VPN ASA5510 to ASA5505

Hello All
I would like to request help from the community. Let me say that I'm not really a VPN guy.
I just joined this company and they already ad a VPN to one of their partners that provides them access to some resources. We have now added a 2nd location but the partner wouldnt allow a 2nd VPN tunnel so the decision was made to give the new location a ASA5505 to tunnel thru the main office to access the resources at the partners site.
Using ASDM i believe i was able to setup the tunnel to the main office but there is no resource there to use. Now i'm stuck and i do not know what to do to get to the partner site

I really thank you for your help when i needed it. On top of your config provided, and with a friend's help we had to add the follwing to make it work:

Need Help with VPN and 10.5 Server

I am at my wits end trying to get my VPN set-up on my X-serve running 10.5 server. Here is what I have for a set-up.
I have set-up my X-Serve as a Standard Server install.
I have put "pinholes" in my router using the following port info:
1701 UDP L2TP - Mac OS X Server VPN service
1723 TCP PPTP - Mac OS X Server VPN service
When I try to log-in remotely, it says it is connecting and then comes back with "The Connection has failed. Please verify your settings and try again." I know my my log-in and password is correct.
Any help or direction at all would be VERY much appreciated. I am completely out of ideas after trying for a week. Thanks!

i've opened ports 47/all (called GRE), 50/all (called ESP), 1701/L2TP, 500/VPN and 4500/IKE-NAT when using L2TP for VPN. i'm not sure if 47 and 50 are related to VPN or IChat, but i guess it's VPN
the other ports you mentioned might be related to PPTP for VPN which you actually don't need. try restrict them to the ports i listed when using L2TP, try and if it doesn't work, open 47 and 50. it is important that these two ports support both TCP and UDP because actually they are not TCP nor UDP because they use something similair like ICMP (used for ping).

Help with c877 DSL configuration

I have a C877 DSL router that I am trying to connect as a linknet so that I can run an igp on it to route my public ip's and private networks back through the DSL. Here is a bad ASCII drawing.

I have this working by using a BVI interface on the 877 DSL WAN (ATM0). See current configurations.
My problem is that I need to shape on the 877 as well as configure QOS (VoIP lives behind the 877) which from my understanding is not supported on BVI interfaces.
Is there some other way to set this up so that I can both shape and do QOS on the DSL?

unfortunately given the need for IRB you cannot use another type of interface you should look for applying QoS tools on internal interface
you are using RFC1483 bridge mode

Hello. I have installed Mac OS X 10.4 server on my MacMini. Works great. I wanted to find a way to VPN into my home connection and be able to use my "internet" Basically my network admin is blocking TONS of ports so I can't use my slingbox or iChat. So I guess I'm asking how to route my internet traffic through my VPN. Thanks!

Issues with vpn connection thru ATT DSL

Hi I hope someone can help me out...
At work we use Cysco VPN Client Verstion 4.8.02.0010
Everyone (about 18 people) can connect to it from their homes. For some reason I am the only member who can not connect.
I am tryihg to connect Via ATT DSL and Cysco VPN Client shows that I am connected, however,
I have no access to any of the networks from work.
I have tried connecting using Cox Cable from a friend's home and it connects just fine.
I have read many threads online that indicate that this is a common occurance with ATT DSL users but I have not found
the fix.
I am using modem/router type 2701 HG-B

Make sure the encrytpion and parameters such as VPN group are negtotiated properly between the client and the server. Refer http://cisco.com/en/US/tech/tk583/tk372/technologies_tech_note09186a00800949c5.shtml for most commonly occuring VPN issues . Contact ATT for configuring their servers.

Help setting up wireless network with Verizon DSL

I bought a MacBook Pro and an Air Port Extreme yesterday. I have an iMAC G5 from October 2004. I have Verizon DSL service and a Westell Series 6100 modem.
Bottom line --> I can't get the wireless connection to work.
I have successfully used a wired dsl connection with my iMAC G5. But, I tried to just disconnect the ethernet cable from my computer and put it into the Airport Extreme and that didn't work. I used the utility to set up the base station and the network, but I'm not sure if I did it properly.
I know a PPPoE is involved but I'm not sure of how to configure the system properly. I'm also not sure if the problem is with the configuration of the AirPort extreme or with my Verizon modem.
All I know is that I want to see a green light on that thing and not a flashing orange one.
Does any one have some instructions for setting up your AirPort Extreme using Verizon DSL? Has anyone else had similar problems? Thanks in advance!

Just finished solving this problem. I am not a strong tech guy, but I know that since it works for others it is just a question of poking and pushing. Anyway it was nine hours in the making...
My snow airport working with an airport express had been bullet proof with verizon dsl for a couple of years. I wanted to upgrade since I am now Intel mac and hit the blinking amber light.
I am only going to be able to give the big picture... The AEBS found and worked with all my computers from the beginning, so the problem became that the default IP Address and Subnet Mask were wrong and never automatically adjusted by the assistants.
Take your working plug-in ethernet connections or the working snow connections from the Airport Utility Internet Connect page. I used the manual configure process to access the info screens.
I copied all the numbers down, but I believe you only have to insert the IP Address, Subnet Mask, Router Address and DNS servers. I put "dsl.verizon.net" in the domain search box.
Go up to the IPv4 pull down menu and select manual and put in the numbers you copied. Then click Update. When the software returns control, the AEBS will still be orange.
Toggle the IPv4 to "using DHCP" Click Update.
This should bring the green light.
I think I then updated the Network Preference Pane, probably had to manually put in my wireless password again. Browser and mail program worked.
I think that was all. I may have had to repeat the toggle to make it stick, but I am operational for the last several hours, including the airport express, a G4 laptop and a Sony PC.

Hi, I'm trying to establish a vpn connection using shrew soft to the router cisco rv180w.
I look and read all I could find but the connection drops when opening the tunel.
There was some tuttorial here in the forum but the links are down.
What I want to acomplish is to establish a communication and be able to access my domain on the network.
Any help with the settings would be greatly apeciated. I'm new to vpn.

Prior to purchasing Airport Extreme had a standard modem/ wireless router from ATT for DSL. I have two macbooks both dropped connections while online with older modem.

you can't. the extreme is only a router. you need a separate modem (or disable the wireless part of your old router and use it as a modem - if that's possible).

Need help with setting up VPN on a Cisco EPC3925 Modem

I need help setting VPN on Cisco EPC3925 modem (I tried using Help and I have read the entire section in the manual but the manual is not the same as the window I get in my settings. For example in the manual they say I can choose "all" under Remote Secure Gateway but there is no option like that).
When I go to the VPN section this is what I get:
1. Does this mean that I can connect to my modem via VPN from some other location? I would like to be able to connect to this modem when I am not at home from some remote location from my computer in order to be able to use NAS-Storage.
2. If the answer on the first question is yes, what settings I need to enter for the:
Local Secure Group
Remote Secure Group
Remote Secure Gateway
My ISP is using dynamic IP but I have DDNS.
My router local IP is 192.168.0.1
Subnet: 255.255.255.0
Starting IP Address: 192.168.0.10

The status is connected. What can I do? UPC tell me this router has only vpn client so i will doesn't work.
