HELP: X48 Platinum, lower FSB ratio to 1.6, no boot

Hi, everyone.  I'm new here, so I hope you'll forgive me if I ask a dumb question.
I'm having a problem setting up my system to over-clock my processor, and I'm getting caught in a very early step where I don't expect a problem, and I'm hoping maybe someone can give me some suggestions.
Here's my setup:
- X48 Platinum
- Intel Q9450 (45nm, 2.66GHz, 4x333MHz FSB)
- 4x 2GB Crucial DDR3, 1333MHz
I started by setting everything to defaults.  CPU multiplier is 8x, FSB is 333, memory/FSB ratio is 2.0, memory is using SPD, all voltages are on Auto.  (Except the memory voltage, which I had to bump to 1.58 to make it work with all four slots populated).  In this state, everything works perfectly.  I run stress tests, and everything is peachy.
Next thing I did was lower the memory/FSB ratio to 1.6, which would run the memories at 1066MHz.  When I do that, the system won't boot.  The LEDs on the motherboard say "ICH", which means that it's somehow getting stuck when initializing the southbridge.
Can anyone give me some insight into what is going on here and how I might fix this problem?  How could UNDERclocking the memory cause the system to not boot?  And how could I work around it?
I also tried manually setting the memory timings to what I know to be in the SPD, but that didn't help.  Another thing I did was raise the FSB speed to 417MHz so that the memory would be back up at 1334MHz and lower the CPU multiplier so it would be below 2.66GHz.  That didn't help either, but it's not where I want to start since I don't yet know the correct terminator and threshold voltages.  I'm not sure what else to do here.
Thanks.

Let's forget about wikipedia and books for newbies.
A DRAM is organized as a matrix (with rows and columns)
tRAS is the time interval between the row accesses.
This signal is also used to refresh the memory cells (the capacitors) on the rows.
High speed + tight timings = incomplete refresh.
In other words, corrupted data.
I'm not disagreeing with you.  Among other things, I'm trying to find some other reason to account for the memory having been adequate time, despite the setting.  Keep in mind that this is FOUR memory modules that are working at this speed.  One explanation is that the BIOS is simply lying about this.  That is, I can set the number to 9, but it's not really getting set to 9 in the hardware.
One way to test this is to run a performance test at 7-7-7-20, 7-7-7-16, and 7-7-7-9 to see if it makes any measurable difference.  If it doesn't, then there's no reason for me to use the lower number, because there's a risk that whatever magic is saving it's ass right now isn't always going to be true, such as when both heavy CPU activity and DMA are going on at the same time.
Quote
At 1066MHz and 1.58V, it's impossible to get stability if tRAS < 16.
So please, if you're looking for help here, post a screenshot of your SPD settings (use CPU-Z).
You'll see the real timings of your DDR3 modules (not that 7-6-6-9 aberration).
At the moment, I'm not using 7-6-6-9 but 7-7-7-20 as you suggested.  So regarding the CPU overclocking help, this is irrelevant.  While I am working on overclocking the CPU, I won't be using the "aberrant" timings.
On the other hand, the fact that it ran for 4 days straight error-free at 7-6-6-9 is interesting and may bear some investigation.
BTW, I'm not running Windows.  I'm running Linux.  I want to overclock, because this is a compute server, and I want my neural nets, genetic algorithms, and Verilog simulations to go faster.  If you'd like to see a screen shot of some tool, is there a Linux equivalent to CPU-Z?  I'm not interested in spending money on a Vista license just so I can run this program.  I do have a valid (and currently unused) license for Windows XP Pro (SP2), but I have a feeling that it won't fully support this board without extensive wranglings with trying to get drivers installed early in the install process.  Suggestions?
Did you mean to ask for SPD numbers, or the numbers currently set?  As for SPD, I looked up the micron spec on the chips on the memory module and found out that at 1333MHz, it's 9-9-9-24, and I also know the rest of the numbers.  I'm not at home right now, but let's see what I can remember.  tRFC=74 (but I think the SPD has it set to 60).  tWR=10, tWTR=5, tRRD=5... I'm probably misremembering some of those.  I'll report later.

  • DDR3 problem on X48 platinum

    Dear Forum,
Yes, from the few hits on google search I know that my problem is an old one. Still I'm a noob to this and I hope to find some help/guidance to get through it. This is the situation
    X48 platinum MB (MSI 7353 v1)
BIOS is V2.2 March 20th 2008 for a Q9550.  CPUID tells me revision C1 for the CPU. And Live update 6 tells me that this is the latest bios version in accord with msi support site.
    2*2GB DDR3 1333 CL9 Transcend.
    And working fine,
Now I want to go to 8GB, and since the box tells me that it can do 1600 FSB I bought 4*2GB
(probably too fast buy, but the only one the store had, noob)
    Corsair Vengeance CMZ8GX3M4X1600C9.
And I don't get this working. I lowered to 1067 MHz by adapting the ratio in the BIOS. But when I start the PC I get a DRAM on the MB screen, and system hangs. Reading forum's I see that other people struggle as well with this. Only once it went through with (4*2GB @ 1067), but windows 7 crashes and keeps rebooting. So I took it out again (noob), but never came that far anymore. I'm aksing for help and willing to learn. I need an expert telling me what I should do and I will do and let you know. ( I would be happy with 8GB @ 1333 as well).
    regards,
    Eddy

    Hi,
Thx for the reply. Yes I'm running 2N.
I could increase the FSB in steps of 10MHz till at 380 FSB (DRAM at 1013/507) I get a blue screen. I did it again relaxing the DRAM from 9-7-7-20 to 9-9-9-26 but again a blue screen at 380 FSB. I don't know if it is CPU or DRAM or something else. I tried to put FSB to 340 and change the FSB/DRAM ratio from 1/1,333 (906/454 MHz, CL9-9-9-26) to 1/1,5 (1020/507 MHz, CL9-9-9-26), but then it doesn't pass startup, three long beeps for the DRAM. (The memory, quad channel XMP should be able to run at 1600/800 at 1,5V).  So maybe I need to increase CPU to 1,25V (lowest that the BIOS allows). Question : did I understood that if you put a voltage manually instead of Auto it is more stable. Should I do his with the NB-> memory related? If so how much should I set?
    regards,
    Eddy
PS I have a noctua cooler so it should be okay T~40- 50C) for the CPU

  • F3-14900CL9D-8GBSR + MSI X48 Platinum + Intel Q9550

    System
    MSI X48 Platinum (MS-7353 v.1 - BIOS:v2.5)
    Intel Q9550 (C1 SLAWQ)
    OLD: OCZ Gold OCZ3G16004GK
    NEW: GSkill Sniper F3-14900CL9D-8GBSR
    ATI Radeon HD6970 Crossfire
    Antec TPQ-850 850W
Hoping someone can help..  I saw a Black Friday deal on the F3-14900CL9D-8GBSR so I thought it would be a good upgrade.  I knew getting it that I may need to run it at 1600 and didn't think it would be a big deal.  I also figured it was a gamble since this MB is VERY picky about RAM.  It took me over a year and two RMA's to get the OCZ RAM stable.  It wouldn't even post at first with those either.
I am not running both the new and old RAM.  I want to run just the 8GB GSkill kit.
The X48 Platinum has a small LCD screen to tell you what is being checked during post.  With the Sniper RAM this screen hangs at "DRAM" and I get nothing on the monitor.  I can't even get in the BIOS.  My old RAM was non-XMP, so I thought it might be trying to use the 1866 XMP profile.  My MB states is supports XMP 1600 but there is no options in the BIOS to disable or configure XMP (not in Cell menu).  I thought maybe it doesn't show those options unless you have XMP capable RAM.... So I also tested with F3-12800CL9D-8GBRL (Ripjaws).  This is also XMP but at 1600.  The computer does the same thing as with the 1866.  Just says "DRAM" on the MB screen and doesn't post.
I would put 1 stick of my old RAM in to try to configure the new sticks.  I tried to load the optimized defaults.  I was using just 1 stick during testing just trying to get it to post.
OCZ RAM - Posted and could get into BIOS
Ripjaws and Sniper -  Didn't even post
I put the old RAM in and tried to manual configure the mem voltage and timings for the new ram.  Swapped the new sticks in and the same thing happend... didn't even post.
    I tried this over and over with different settings...different ratios...different multiplers...looser timings...tighter timings....different slots.
Honestly, I am at a loss.  I cannot get either of the GSkill XMP modules to even post.
So, my question is, does this motherboard support XMP or not?  It appears in all the documentation that it does but there are no options for it in the BIOS.  I have seen people in the forums say they have enabled or disabled it but they also had BIOS version 2.4.  Was this option in v2.4 and when MSI "Improved Memory Compatibility" in v2.5, was it removed?  I know the X48 chipset supports XMP.  What's the deal?
Also.. Any suggestions on getting the XMP RAM working?
    Thanks

The saga continues..  I am working with OCZ for a refund for my failed RAM.  OCZ is out of the memory game so I need to find modules that will work.  I would prefer to get 1600 modules since that is what I had working.  I know I could get some standard [email protected] and they would work.
What 1600 modules can I get that will work?  I am having difficulties finding modules from the HCL.  The 8GB (2x4) [email protected].. I understand now why they didn't work...and I thank you for your help on that.
I tried these, as suggested by OCZ, and they also would not post.  I assume OCZ choose these based on the low cost.  These are 4GB (2x2)[email protected] CL8.  They had the same problems as the 1866 modules.  One module would not post after clearing the BIOS and trying every slot.
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820148517
I was also able to borrow a set of these GSKILLS from a friend (I know you mentioned GSKILLS are not preferred but it's what I had on hand to try).  8GB (2x4) [email protected] CL9.  They had the some problems as the other modules.  One module would not post after clearing the BIOS and trying every slot.  I was hoping I could get one up at 1333..no luck
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231277
This leads me to believe that this MB prefers overvolted 1066 or 1333 modules.  For example these...
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820145263
    http://www.corsair.com/cmx4gx3m2a1600c8.html
These are 1333 modules that are overvolted to 1.65v to reach 1600.  The SPD is set to [email protected]
Opinons?  Would these work?  Any other suggestions for 1600 modules?  OCZ will be refunding me $$$ so I want to get modules that work so they refund me the right amount of cash.
    Thanks

  • K7n2 delta2 platinum - changed FSB and can't boot or clear CMOS

    Hi all,
    specs first:
    KnN2 Delta2 Platinum board
    Athalon Barton 2800 XP
2 sticks of 256 pc 3200 ram and one stick of 512 pc3200
Last night I went into the bios of my new board, and unthinkingly set to CELL settings to manual and jacked up the FSB way up. Shouldn't have been working on my computer after a 12 hour shift. :( Anyway, it didn't boot when I reset. I tried clearing my CMOS and have unplugged the power, taken out the battery and the whole shabang in the CMOS clearing faq, but its still not giving me any beep codes or anything at all. I suspect my CMOS isin't clearing, however I'm wondering if its possible I've fried my new barton 2800 XP, my board, my ram, or all of the above. :( :(. I've read a ton of other delta boards having a safe mode jumper, j10, which will reset the fsb setting to 100 mhz, but can't find it anywhere for the delta2 platinum.
It was booting and getting into my OS before this, can anyone help?
    Thanks in advance.

Yes, this worked, however it was an acident. To test my chip I threw in my 1800 xp chip, cleared the CMOS again (which apparently was working fine) and suddenly it started posting beep codes. I assumed that meant I had burned my 2800 and returned it to the place of purchase. They threw it on a board and said it was posting fine, but I got my money back anyway. Going to go pick up another 2800 this weekend probably.
Anyway, I havn't actually tried the insert method. Oh, and yea, I jacked the FSB up to 300 or so... I think I'm somewhat confused, as I've got a 333 chip in a 2800 so I think I've mistaken something fundamental here.

I suspect my CMOS isin't clearing
Actually, it probably is clearing. On earlier K7N2, when the CMOS is cleared everything is set to default EXCEPT the FSB setting, that's why it's usually necessary when the FSB has been pushed too high by the user, to use the FSB Jumper (SAFE/USER) to reset the FSB to default.
I fail to see the wisdom of removing this jumper from later boards!
You should also try substituting your CPU with another - just to make sure it isn't the CPU that's at fault.
Sorry I wasn't of more help.

  • X48 platinum stuck on DRAM LED post

    Hello users
I have just built my own PC rig, but unfortunately I am having some issues with the system. Everytime I turn on the machine the LED Post on motherboard is displaying DRAM and it wont boot anything else (like Video). I have no chance of accessing the BIOS or to update it.
So far I have replaced the memory blocks since I thought they were defect, but I am having the same issue with the new memory blocks. I have tried running the system with only one memory block and in different dimm slots, but I still get the DRAM error.
According to the MSI the memory should not be a problem (http://corsair.com/configurator/product_results.aspx?id=552036). Any help is greatly appreciated.
    My system specs:
    MSI x48 Platinum
    Intel q9550, 2,83 GHz, 12MB L2 Cache, 1333 MHz FSB
    Corsair DDR3 - Twin3X4096-1600C7DHX G - 2 x 2GB modules (XMS3-1600, 2048MB, 1600MHz, 7-7-7-20, 1.90V, ver4.1)
    ASUS EAH4870X2/HTDI/2G
    ASUS VW222U
    WD Raptor 150GB
    ASUS DVD E818AT
    Logitech G5
    Antec 900
    OCZ GameXStream 850
    Vista Home Premium x64bit

hey and thanks for the fast reponse.
I took a look at the motherboard sticker and the only thing I could see relating to BIOS is MS-7353 Ver 1.0.
Hmmm, any ideas how to update the BIOS then, if I am not able to get any video display. I did some research to find a way on how to update BIOS, but nothing useful comes up. Any ideas how to update the BIOS without any graphic display? Or do I need the Local IT departmant to fix this?
Looked up my CPU at intel.com and it has C1 stepping. Atleast it says S-spec: SLAWQ on my processer box (http://processorfinder.intel.com/details.aspx?sSpec=SLAWQ).

  • MSI x48 cant change FSB at all

    hi,
i would like to ask if anyone of you encountered problems with changing FSB on MSI x48 platinum, because I'm encountering very weird "bug", everytime i change FSB save and restart bios showing me its running on ie. 8x350 but when i boot to windows and check it in everest/vista/CPU-z/whatever its showing only 8x333 which is default, after some tries i found that if i set any value to FSB it will boot up and bios will shows what i set and in windows its still at 8x333, i tried even some insane values like 8x600 and even 8x800 without any change of voltage only DIMMs i have at 1.92, everytime its booting up with bios showing 8x600/8x800 but its obvious that running 8x800 without any change of voltage is unreal so ....are there any secret values in bios which can disable "overclocking" ? can i access them ? how ? can re-flashing bios v2.2 with v2.2 from web pages help ? if it causing bad HW, which one ? CPU ? MB ?
PS: my brother have exactly same setup as me, and he doesn't have this problem, only thing we made different is that i installed Vistas with ACPI S3 and he with S1
PS2: i have 30-35°C on CPU idle and 40-45° burn depending on ambient temperature
NB is something like 50 ?
PS3: my setup is in signature, just ask for more details if its not sufficient

just want to inform you that today bios flashing to version 2.3 solved my problem...i was finally able to overclock my PC :P

  • X48 Platinum memory problems

    Hello everyone,
I recently put together my new system with the following specs:
CPU model and rated speed: E8500
    Memory : OCZ 2x1Gb DDR3 1600 (OCZ3P16002GK)
Motherboard and revision: MSI X48 platinum
    Motherboard Bios rev: 2.20 (latest)
    Video card:-MSI-ATI3870x2
Power supply: Cooler master rp m850
    Operating System: WinXP
I've had great trouble getting my system to run with all the BIOS settings on Auto (it didn't run at all actually, could get past the post but then the screen turns black).
I figured out that the problems came from the memory settings and thus lowered them to run on 800Mhz. Gladly this works stable.
I have tried to change other settings in the BIOS but with no succes. Now I keep reading and reading about memory timings/voltages/FSB ratios/Mhz/and a whole bunch of abbreviations however it feels like I'm only getting further away from a sollution to running my memory at nominal speeds.
I've also tested the memory and found the following:
FSB 400 x 8 (i've got watercooling so that shouldn't be any problem, heat wise)
    FSB/Mem ratio 1:2.00
    Timings on 7-7-7-24-60 2T
    Cpu voltage on Auto
Mem voltage on 1.88 (bios showed the numbers in red)
Tried with the above settings strip no.1 in slot 1 (closest to cpu) and ran without error.
Tried with the above settings strip no.2 in slot 1 also ran without error.
Tried with the above settings strip no.2 in slot 3 also ran without error.
Then tried both strips 1 and 2 in slot 1 and 3 and found heaps of errors.
    To be exact:
Tst 5 had error count 1 to 70
Tst 7 had error count 71 to 226
Tst 8 had error count 227 to 264
Can any of u guys give me some new insight on how to proceed from here, cause I'm starting to get lost......

    Memory : OCZ 2x1Gb DDR3 1600 (OCZ3P16002GK)
    Running stable at 800Mhz
Then upped the Ram voltage from auto to 1.88v and... dang!! Not stable anymore.
Then turned it back to 1.79v to find it stable.
Got it somewhat stable at 1067 but not at 1333.
The road to 1600 seems to be a hard one....
OCZ3P16002GK is in fact an overvoltaged DDR3-1066 (7-7-7-20 at 1.5V).
Something more: 99% of the DDR3 memory modules at 1600  or 1800 are overvoltaged 1333 or 1066 modules.
For future take care and don't buy ... nice heat spreaders.
    cheers

    Hi,
Do low hit ratio (less than 70%) for Export/Import buffer causes performance issue?
I didnt get any Note related to this.
    Any help will be appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Saurabh

    Thanks everyone,
Basicaly all the buffers(Program/Nametab/CUA/Screen/Genric Key/Single record) has hit ratio around 99% , but for export/import buffer its 60%. which is indeed less.
This is what i intended to ask, if this low hit ratio for export/import buffer has much impact ?
    Any note if anyone remembers?

  • Problems with X48 Platinum board

    Help!!!!
    specs:
    MSI X48 Platinum board
    Patriot PC3 10666 4GB (2x2GB)
Q6600, Not Overclocked yet... to many problems still
2 HIS 3650 DDR2 to support 3 monitors, not crossfire
    2 Highpoint Rocket Raid 2320
    13 hard drives, 6x500 gig, 5x320gig, 2x1TB
    and 2 water pumps MCP600
this is all powered by 2 Corsair 620HX PS, 1 for mother board, the other for all the hard drives, pumps and fans.
my problem is my random crashing in vista64, BSOD.
I have all my settings in the bios set to default, and have my ram running at 1:1 to figure this problem out.
I have noticed that the little led's beside my ram, in slot 1 it is blue while in slot 3 it is red. i don't know if it is suppose to be that way...
have swapped my ram around and still had the same problem. and has passed an overnight test of memtest.
Also if I remove 1 raid controller it crashes less often. but nowhere near stable. crashes just surfing the web.
It is a fresh install of Vista64, using the drivers off of the enclosed CD,
and latest drivers off of ATI/AMDs site for video drivers.
and board bios version is same as what is available on the MSI website.
my raid controllers have latest bios and drivers as well.
I switched from an asus board and never experienced such problems and it is driving me nuts... to the point of just buying a new board, not MSI.
    Thanks

i have manged to isolate the problem somewhat.
it has to do with the raid controller cards.
if none are installed it runs smoothly...
I add 1 card it screws up sometimes, drops the drive then on reboot doesn't recognise the drive at all.
this happens more often when i add a second video card though...
when both raid cards are in the machine it BSOD withing minutes.
I used windbg.exe to analyse the memory dumps...
and it crashes in the kernel or some other place. never seems to crash inside the raid drivers...
I'm wondering if it is possible that since both video cards are self powered,(no extra power connected to it) as well as the raid cards... that it is drawing to much power from the PCIE bus for the motherboard to handle...
also never got a reply weather the ram leds should be red in the 3'rd slot....

  • Can you help me solve my aspect ratio issue?

    Hey guys,
I'm posting this in hopes that someone can help me solve an aspect ratio issue with a project that I have to finish by tomorrow.
I'm trying to avoid having to re-edit the entire thing.
I shot the project with my Nikon D7000 DSLR. in 720p 30p (29.97)
I am running Adobe Premiere Pro CS5 (the trial version).  I have the full version of Adobe Premiere Pro CS3.
The reason I was working with the trial is that CS3 can't handle the H.264 MOVs that the D7000 records.
You can work with a timeline, but if you try to export anything, it never works.  I always have to convert my footage to ProRes MOVs with MPEG Streamclip before I can work with them is CS3.  That takes a lot of time and a lot of hard drive space.  After much research, I found out that CS5 is the way to go for DSLR footage.  I just need to save up my pennies for the upgrade.
So I thought I'd edit this short (1 minute) project with the trial to see how CS5 works with the D7000 footage.
Upon installing the trial program, I found that the project presets were limited.  I knew this ahead of time because it's clearly stated on the Adobe's website.
But I wasn't aware how limited they are.
Since "DSLR 1280x720p 30p" is not an option with the trial, I was going to use HDV 720p 30p.  But that was not an option either!
So basically, my only option for 16x9 30p was "DV NTSC Widescreen".  It's my understanding that this is 864x480 (in square pixel aspect ratio) or 720x480  (in widescreen pixel aspect ratio)   I needed the output file to be 864x486.  I downsized the footage to 69% in the "Video Effects: Motion" setting so it looked correct in the project.  I didn't think about those extra 6 pixels until I outputed the file and saw thin black lines on the top and bottom.  My guess is that Premiere is adding black pixels because my project is technically 720x480 (1.2121)
Any thoughts on how I can get a clean 864x486 export?  I'd rather not re-edit the whole thing...which I would have to do in CS3 after I spent a few hours converting the original files in MPEG Streamclip.  I don't know if there is a way to export something out of CS5 and then open a new project in CS3 to make this work.
    Thanks in adavance!

On export, just crop a few pixels off of each side; that'll let the image scale correctly to the output frame size without black bars.
I'm not running the trial, but you should still be able to create a custom sequence preset using the Desktop editing mode. Just switch over to the General tab when you create a new sequence, and choose "Desktop" from the editing modes. Set the rest of the parameters as you need them.
Even easier: once you've imported your footage, just drag a clip to the New Item icon at the bottom of the project panel; a sequence will be created matching your footage parameters. You can edit at full-resolution, and then export to your desired frame size when complete--you'll probably still need to crop a few pixels (in the Export Settings window) to eliminate the black bars.

Hello, those yellow slots are not PCI-Slots, but PCI-Express slots.  The X48 Platinum only has one PCI-Slot.

  • DRAM:FSB Ratio Question

I'm new to OCing & have put a mild 3GHz OC on my CPU. Everything is stable, the only thing I'm concerned about is my DRAM:FSB ratio. It is 6:5. I thought 1:1 is ideal & have been trying to search all morning on the means to achieve it before asking the question here. Here's what my Cell Bios look like.
    D.O.T.= Disabled
    Intel EIST= Disabled
    System Clock Mode = Linked
    FSB Clock (MHz) = 1333
Adjusted Dram Freq = 800 (greyed out)
    Adjusted CPU Freq = 9
    Adjusted DRAM Config = 4-4-4-15, 22trc, 2T
    Adjusted PCI-E Freq = 100
    CPU Voltage = 0
    Memory Voltage = 2.1
    UTT FSB Voltage = 1.2
    NB Voltage 1.2
    SB Core Power = 1.5
    Spread Spectrum = Disabled
It is my understanding that I don't need to up my voltages for a 3GHz OC. I got my memory timings stable after I discovered I have a bad HD & replaced them. What do I need to do to get to 1:1 or should I even be concerned about it?  Everthing is stable at this point & I'll stick with 3GHz until I can learn more.

I also noticed that Vantage also didn't get my FSB correct, I am running 417 but it showed 333. It also showed wrong clocks for my graphics card OC.

  • MSI X48 Platinum LGA775, CFire,DDR3,GBLan,SATA2,ATX not posting due to ddr3

I cannot get this board to post except once when I had first built it a few days ago. I then moved the pc and added some other usb etc and since then the  pc will not post. The post lcd shows ddr3 and freezes. I then reset the bios and it posts and asks f1 to enter the setup or f2 for minimum defaults. If I  alter anything in setup it goes back to the ddr 3 error. When using f2 and min defaults it posts but tells me I have a startup file missing. It then restarts to a ddr3 failure again. Can anyone suggest some steeings and a way around this? I appreciate I need to reload vista 64 as the startup file is missing but I can't seem to get to the point of being able to do that.
    Thanks
    my setup is follows:-

The entire forum is full of similar OCZ DDR3 issues.

It's very hard to understand why do they need 1.7V if they're real DDR3-1333 CAS=9.
    Probably because they're not ...
Anyway, please post a screenshot of the CPU-Z Memory SPD settings.
    cheers

you can't add or mofidy partition numbers. especially not if and once you have windows installed.
boot from Windows 7 DVD afterwards
but first you have to tell us and Christopher what and how you partitioned your system.
Successful setup of OS X Lion + Data Partition + Bootcamp Win7 Ult
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3293948
So after many, many hours I think I've finally figured out how to successfully setup Mac OS X Lion on one partition, a seperate data partition, and Windows 7 Ultimate on a Bootcamp partition . Here is a screenshot of my setup on my 13" MacBook Pro

    Paragon CampTune
Paragon CampTune is a commercial product that is designed expressly for this task. http://www.paragon-software.com/home/camptune/ It consists of a downloadable ISO that needs to be burned to a disc and booted from in order to resize the partitions costs US$19.95.
    Securing Dual-System Configuration
Imaging is still the most affordable and robust way to secure computer data. Unfortunately Mac OS X backs up only HFS+ volumes, leaving Windows with dual-system configurations unsecured. You can permanently lose all of your data unless you have a Windows-compatible backup solution.
Paragon’s CampTune and Paragon’s Drive Copy for Mac can secure the entire dual-system configuration. CampTune creates traditional images of volumes or entire hard disks, Drive Copy can copy them to other disks. In case of an emergency, you can restore the previously created image or copy all your data back to its original state.
    GParted Live
GParted Live is similar to CampTune as it is also distributed as a bootable image that needs to be copied to a CD/DVD or USB flash drive. As free and open source software, distributed under the GPL, it will always be available free. Since it has more functions than CampTune, it may be harder for folks who are not as experienced with partitioning hard drives. http://gparted.sourceforge.net/
    iPartition
Coriolis Systems' iPartition is a £29.95 ($44.95 US) utility that runs in Mac OS X and allows resizing of all of the relevant partition formats, including HFS+, FAT32, and NTFS. It provides a Mac-oriented user interface that may be easier to manage than some of the free utilities. As it is not capable of resizing the boot disk, it requires a bootable external disk or a boot DVD. (A tool to create a boot DVD is included.)
    Paragon Partition Manager
From the makes of CampTune is a commercial tool that is similar in functionality to GParted Live, but has a more polished/friendly user interface than GParted Live. Previously only the US$79.95 Professional version supported all the features required for this, but as of version 11 the US$39.95 Personal version has also been reported to work. http://www.paragon-software.com/home/pm-personal/
    Winclone/Disk Utility
Winclone is a free tool for creating and restoring backup images of your Windows partition. One of its key features is that it can restore to a larger partition than the one the image was created from.
NOTE: Winclone has been discontinued, but for now remains available and capable of completing these tasks (including creating and restoring Windows 7 images).
Winclone updated to support Lion Winclone updates and download
Disk Utility can resize HFS+ (Mac OS) partitions, but is currently incapable of resizing NTFS partitions, so you could use it to reduce the size of the HFS+ partition and create a new larger placeholder MS-DOS (FAT) partition
    The full process would be:
    Backup Windows partition with Winclone.
(if the new Windows partition is smaller than the old one make sure you set the preferences in Winclone to save the image as an uncompressed dmg)
    Delete old Windows partition
    Resize current Mac Partition
Create new Windows partition as MS-DOS (FAT) in free space after Mac OS partition.
(If the new Windows partition is smaller than the old one an additional step is required: shrink the filesystem on the image by selecting Tools->Shrink Windows (NTFS) Filesystem)
Reboot your computer for the new Windows partition to mount properly (winclone may not restore if you don't reboot)
Restore Winclone partition over new Windows partition
An alternate Winclone based process is described in the External Guides section
    Native OS utilities
MR user Kazyua reports that you can use the disk management utilities provided with the current operating systems if you want to do it manually. Windows 7 and OS X both have partition resizing functions built in. In OS X, open Disk Utility and manually shrink the mac HFS+ partition by dragging the lower right corner. Then in windows go to the start menu and type "disk management" into the search box then hit enter. You should get an overview of the drives you have and the individual partitions. Right-clicking on the partition gives an "Extend Volume" option. The Windows NTFS volume should then be extended into the free space you created with Disk Utility. This method has not worked for other users, so try at your own risk.
