Help! x60s full recovery issue

I tried to restore the system to factory state with the recovery cd I purchased. But there comes an error in the process.
The messege is:
FCOPIER
File X:\Preboot\PYTHON24\LIB\SITE-PACKAGES\_XMLPLUS\DOM\EXT\READER\_INIT_.PYC could not be copied. error 999 = Error performing inpage operation.
And then the recovery can not continue any more.
Please someone, help me with that. Thanks.
By the way, my laptop model is 1705CTO, and the system I use is Windows XP Home.

Please HELP - huge data recovery issues

Hello all,
The hard drive on my MacBook (late 2008 unibody, less than a year old, don't get me started) has gone to ****, and I am trying desperately to get the data off of it before I get a replacement. Got it out of the laptop and into an enclosure, it shows up fine, but when I try to transfer, I keep getting code 36 errors, so it does look like some of the files are messed up.
So yesterday I bought Disk Warrior, hoping against all hopes that this would help, and I rebuilt the hard drive, but I continue to get the same errors. So then I tried Restore in Disk Utility, no dice. I have Carbon Copy Cloner running right now (I'm out for the day), but given that it got through 200-something MBs of a drive with about 150 GB of data in four hours or so last night, I'm not all that hopeful. I think my last resort is to use ChronoSync to just make it skip the bad files, I mean, I can live with losing them, but it's just driving me crazy that it stops it every time, there's no way I can sit there and keep restarting the copy after every error (I mean, it's literally like every 10-15 files).
The one thing I am really worried about though is my pictures. The iPhoto library is just one big file, right? So I tried to copy that, same problem. Any thoughts on that specifically? Is it actually multiple files within the library file, so maybe ChronoSync would work for that too?
I guess my main questions are:
1) Any suggestions on possible ways to recover this data, as DiskWarrior seems to have failed?
2) Barring possibility of recovering data, any way to make it keep copying and skip bad files other than ChronoSync?
Any thoughts would be MUCH appreciated. I am about to go insane here. Thanks so much!!

I've definitely seen scenarios where Disk Warrior can't resolve the issue but Data Rescue II is able to get more files. It really depends on what's wrong with the hard drive. If it's a mechanic failure then there isn't much of anything in the software category that's going to help you. That's where you get into a place like Drive Savers or OnTrack and it's also where things get very expensive... very quickly.
If it's a drive partition map or file structure corruption, software would certainly would certainly work in an effort to fix it. From my experience in using Disk Warrior as a solution for friends, co-workers and clients, I've seen about 35-40% success rate. Again, it really depends on what's wrong with the HD.
The iPhoto Library is actually a package, there are a dozen or so folders within the iPhoto Library and then multiple levels of folder structures within them (containing all of your photos and thumbnails). Data Rescue II, theoretically, should allow you to see the contents of the library and try to extract. The problem, however, is sometimes the application will spit out file types like 0000100142.jpg and then you have to go through every single file and figure out what it is.

Yes you can ofourse but dont be in idea that logging will be mininal. Loggign will be as per recovery model full. Every thing will be logged. If you are going to use bulk insert task you can consider switching recovery model to Bulk logged but you will not
have option to do point in time recovery.

Time Machine Full Recovery From Wireless Backup

I am reporting this as a learning experience for all.
I just had a hard drive fail on my MacBook. Apple Care was golden and now I have a clean install with Leopard.
Here is my situation. MacBook backed up via time machine on a wireless network. Windows on boot camp partition. Dedicated disk (1TB Buffalo) connected to wife's iMac via firewire.
I want to do a full recovery. I start up leopard and it gives me the option to do a full recovery during setup. I have no time machine backup list provided. I continue with setup. When I go to the recover option of time machine I am asked to select a file. This is when I call tech support.
Tech Support says I should have had the backup disk connected directly via firewire for setup to see it. Time machine stores the backup under these conditions as a Sparse bundle. Now that I am past setup I have to do a migration rather than a recovery. I start up the migration assistant and I still cannot access the sparse bundle as it is grayed out. The leap here is you have to mount the sparse bundle, double click, then it shows up as a disk you can migrate from.
Windows Partition, as TS puts it is "on its own".
The confusion for me was that I could not recover exactly as I had backed up.

Migration has no option for any part of the OS. It assumes you already have it.
If you recover your entire system from a TM backup (assuming nothing significant was excluded), you get your entire system back exactly the way it was: the OS, Apps, settings, preferences, user data, etc.
You don't load a new OS from the Leopard Install disc -- you only use it for it's copy of Disk Utility and the installer -- everything else comes from your TM backup.

We are not Apple, and Apple does not unlock phones. Sprint will unlock phones, but you have to qualify. One of the qualifications is to have been a customer in good standing for a period of time. You can check their website for what that is. After that, they can unlock the GSM side of the phone for International use, that is it. If you are on a CDMA carrier, then it cannot be unlocked. Are you trying to use a local SIM card in China?
Your only option is to contact Sprint to see if you qualify for an unlock. Only they can unlock it. Sprint is one of the poorest choices to take to another country.

Help: Collaboration Room Bugs/Issues

I have created my own collaboration room template by duplicating the standard Information Site template.
However, i am facing a few issues related to collaboration room creation, which might be standard features/bugs in collaboration room.
1. When i create a new Room, all the users of that room (members as well as administrators) get full access to room documents, headers, news, Faqs etc.
The permissions started working fine when i changed permissions in KM Content --> Room_Extensions.
All the existing rooms showed the correct permissions.
However, whenever i create a new room, every user gets full permissions to all the parts of the room.
This is despite the fact that i have removed all the users from full permissions to the room_extensions folder in KM and reset the child permissions.
2. I have attached the iView com.sap.ip.collaboration/TemplateContent/Homer/iViews/ com.sap.netweaver.coll.RoomMemberList (Team Members iView)to my room template.
When i create a new room based on my template, i do not get the users specific to a particular room.
What i get in the Team members list is all the users listed in the Contacts list in Collaboration Launch Pad.
3. When i try to preview some of the iViews stored in com.sap.ip.collaboration/TemplateContent/Homer, i get an exception. On attaching these iViews to the Collaboration Rooms, i get a message stating "Invalid Item ID" index.xml.
I get the same message even after attaching these iViews to a collaboration room template and creating a room based on the template.
Any help regarding these issues would be highly appreciated. Full points for helping me with these issues.

here my comments:
1) These are the standard settings (every room member gets full access) for the permissions of KM content created during a Room creation. Since KM can't distinguish between the room roles, we can't set 'better/stronger' permissions. You can only set manually permissions on concrete users.
2) It seems that you have not set the mappings for this iView. For the RoomMemberList you need the following settings:
StartURI        room_rootrolegroup_rid
path            room_rootrolegroup_rid
roomrid         roomid
in the documentation you find more mappings for iViews delivered by SAP, which You have to set in the templates.

3) That's possible since some of the iViews needs certain iView-Parameters set to work properly. Please check if this iView needs some mappings under the link in the documentation under 2)
4) Up to now we are treating groups as you described. We are working on a solution where we work with groups as room members and we don't resolve the members of the invited/added group.

Need Quick Help: LR and PS issue

In my work flow, I do all of my adjustments in LR but I do send certain photos into PS to get fine tuned and then the file is usually re-imported back into LR so that I can organize my files and upload them to various sites and services.
The issue that I am having now, is that when I choose to save the photo as a full sized JPEG it no longer automatically imports in back into LR even if I manually do it. It only re-imports the photos automatically if I save it as a Tiff.
Someone recommended on another forum that I might need to change the file names which worked, but no longer linked the photo to the original cr2 file.
Could anyone help me resolve this issue?

You might want to read the thread. The OP is rendering the file to PS. Irrespective of whether the RAW file is converted to DNG or not this requires the creation of a TIFF or PSD.
Converting a TIFF to DNG would be pointless ,DNG is a TIFF itself, and create larger files as TIFF's zip compression, which is lossless, is not only the same as used by DNG but can also support layers which DNG cannot.
Personally the only time I open a file from LR into PS is when I have a issue that requires the use of layers as anything else editing wise can be done in LR. I always save with the layers intact so I can reopen if I need. This does create pretty large files, from even smallish originals, let alone 21 MP cameras. However I have loads of hard drive space. If you are short of hard drive space then just enable TIFF's zip compression, this will be at the expense of longer save and open times, but otherwise have no effect on the files itself other than reducing its size considerable.

Hello this is happening to us also (minus the Bluetooth speaker). We can't figure out what is causing the data usage. I turned off mobile data as soon s I activated the device, and got the message that unless I am connected to WiFi.....(that is exactly what I wanted). We watched Netflix for about three hours, then the alerts started. Like you we have many devices connected and never used over 2GB now all of a sudden we have used it in a matter of hours. My husband called Verizon and got the usual doubting Thomas response. I understand that they don't know my device settings. So over the phone we check all the settings and turned off every possible culprit eating up the data and end the call. By now I have purchased another gig for the month! Assured we are NOT using mobile data, we continue on the IE path to bliss. HA! A few hours later I check the mobile data usage on the Verizon website and that darn thing is still using data. After two more phone calls and two VERY uneventful trips to the local store we were told to take out the sim card. This has stopped the data usage, but it defeats the purpose of having the data plan. I could have just stuck with my Surface. Verizon sent us a new sim card. Its been installed and I have set my homepage to Verizon mobile data usage (just kidding) but I am on that site a lot. I am surprised at the number of complaints about this device. When we called the Verizon support acted as though this was the first time they had heard about this. Loved your post, you should write for a living.

Windows Installation Error after Full Recovery

I upgraded a Satellite A135-S4656 from a 160GB hard drive to 320GB hard drive. I did a full recovery with the recovery cd's. At the end of the recovery, I the following message:
"Windows setup could not configure windows to run on this computer's hardware"
After saying ok to the message above and rebooting. I get to the Windows Vista splash screen and then i get the following message:
"Windows could not complete the installation. To install Windows on this computer, restart the intallation."
I ran the recovery once again and went through the whole recovery - still get the same messages.
Your help with this will be appreciated.

Is your form running inside the browser window (with SeparateFrame=False)? If the browser is maximized, and your form is maximized, yet you cannot see the entire screen, you can run with SeparateFrame=True. You can do that on the browser line.

Full craw issue with specific web application

We are using SharePoint 2013 Enterprise (15.0.4569.1000). We have public facing (publishing site) with anonymous access enabled on it. While crawling this site we are using default Content Source called "Local SharePoint sites" where we have following
settings.
Start Addresses - http://SP2013APPSRV
Crawl Settings - Crawl everything under the hostname for each start address
Crawl Schedules - Enable Incremental Crawls
With this configuration we try to perform Full Crawl of this content source. the status of this content source goes to "Starting" then to "Crawling Full" and after some time then to "Idle" state. The overall crawl duration never
goes beyond 3-4 minutes. With this if we check the "Crawl Log" screen then except for "Successes" = 1 every other column shows 0 even the "Errors" or "Top Level Errors" column shows no record. Getting into the Success
items we found that the crawling was only done for the single item which is nothing but the start address that was specified into the content source settings (http://sp2013appsrv). Because of this it seems the crawling is not working correctly to pull all
the sub contents of the given host URl, instead it only pulls the top level link. There is nothing helpful in Verbose - ULS logs or event viewer either.
With further analysis of this we found that this issue only exists with single web application only. Because adding another web application URL into the same Content Source does crawls all the contents properly of that web application but still shows single
index item for problematic web application.
Could someone please help us with this issue ?

Based on your description, you have some problems in doing full crawl of a specify web application.
1. Check if the crawl account has 'full read' access to affected web application.
2. Check if allow this site to appear in search results in the search and offline availability in the site setting.
3. Check if you have
opened the urlMappings in SharePoint that will hinder the search function crawls. If you add the code as below into the web.config to open the
urlMappings, it will not crawl the web application.

EXPLANATION
Catalog와 Controlfile이 모두 손상되었을 경우 full recovery를 수행할 수 있도록
하기 위해 oracle9i부터 Controlfile Autobackup이라는 New feature를 제공한다.
이 Feature가 활성화되면 RMAN은 자동으로 특정 형식(specific format)으로
controlfile을 backup한다 나중에 RMAN은 Recovery catalog를 access하지 않고도
이 backup을 인식할 수 있다. 이 형식은 "%F"라는 variable을 포함하는데
이 variable은 중요한 정보인 DATABASE ID를 포함하고 있다.
이것은 다음과 같은 CONFIGURE 명령을 사용하여 Turn-on 될 수 있다.

Controlfile backup은 backup의 끝에서 수행된다.
그리고 이 backup piece name의 두번째 string은 dbid이다(4159396170)
Current controlfile이 database와 함께 손실되고 Recovery catalog도 손상되어
사용할 수 없게 되었을 때 controlfile autobackup이 controlfile을 restore하기
위해 사용될 수 있다. restore된 controlfile은 db를 mount하고 datafile들을
restore하기 위해 사용될 수 있다.
Controlfile autobackup을 이용하여 full recovery를 수행하기 위해서는 아래와
같은 과정을 수행하면 된다.
1. Target instance를 위한 new init.ora를 생성한다. backup이 있다면 이것을
사용할 수 있다.
2. Startup nomount your new instance.
3. RMAN은 시작하나 어떤 connect statement도 수행하지 않는다.
4. RMAN prompt상에서 DBID를 설정한다. 만약 DBID를 모르면 controlfile autobackup
의 이름으로부터 이것을 알 수 있다.
RMAN> set dbid=4159396170;
5. Dbid를 설정한 후에 nomount로 startup한 target instance에 connect한다.
RMAN> connect target /
6. 만약에 backup이 disk상에 있고 controlfile autobackup을 non-default location
으로 지정하였다면 파일을 다음과 같은 위치로 옮겨 놓는다
ON UNIX : ORACLE_HOME/dbs
ON WINDOWS: ORACLE_HOME/database
RMAN은 controlfile autobackup을 찾기 위해 위 directory를 검색한다.
만약 controlfile autobackup location을 바꾸지 않으면 위 directory안에
backup이 생성되게 된다.
만약에 backup이 tape에 있다면 restore시 channel과 device를 기술하기 위해서
run block을 사용해야 한다. database가 mount되어 있지 않기 때문에
default device와 channel을 설정할 수 없다.
RMAN> run { allocate channel c_1 type 'sbt_tape'

7. Restore the controlfile:

10. file들을 restore한 후에 recovery를 수행할 수 있다.
이때 current online redo log가 없고 또한 backup controlfile을 사용하기
때문에 incomplete recovery를 수행해야 한다. 이를 수행하기 위해서는
"UNTIL TIME"을 설정해야 하고 open시에는 resetlogs를 사용해야 한다.

BUT Dear Mohammed,
It is not working accordingly. what I did is :-
1. I switched off the AUTOBACKUP
2. Then I took whole database backup, that means it included File # 1
3. But according to above it is going to include autobackup of controlfile and spfile in the same backupset .
4. But when I asked it to restore controlfile from autobackup it said NO AUTOBACKUP FOUND.
COULD YOU PLEASE HELP ME ONCE AGAIN DEAR.
If it works accroding to above then it should have my Autobackup.

Equium L - Lost power while doing a full recovery

Hi,
I have a Toshiba Equium L series.
I started doing a full recovery to the factory settings but unfortunately, I disconnected the wire to the AC and there was no battery either, so the computer shut down immediately. The product recovery dvd was inserted and was being used but the computer disconnected before I chose the type of recovery I wanted, so I assume nothing has been deleted in my hard drive.
The problem is that when I turn on the laptop now, it won't work. I just have a black screen and nothing else is happening. It seems like I have to dial a command or something like that. Could anybody help? I actually have some files on the hard drive that I would like to save before completing a full recovery to factory settings with the DVD. Its good news that you are able to start the unit and that the HDD is recognized in BIOS.
This means that everything is OK with the HDD.
You want to rescue the files on the HDD hmm try to boot from bootable system disk like WinPE.

This should allow you to get access to the HDD and to the files stored on HDD.
Maybe then you should be able to move the files to external USB HDD or similar
Finally take your recover disk and then format the whole HDD and reinstall the OS again.
