HELPED NEED! AV Cable * Universal Dock

I purchased the universal dock and av cable hoping to play my music from my ipod on my stero system. The cable has a line that fits into the steroeo nicely but then it has three lines; one is yellow, one red, and the last one is white. I put them all in respectively while the music was playing and i can't hear anything. What should I do??

You've most likely connected the wrong connectors if you know what I mean.
The AV cable you have incorporates a vidoe stream. For listening to audio only, your cable would only have two connectors at one end.
You should still be able to use the cable though - connect the single plug at one end to the iPod dock, then connect the White plug to the Black port on your hi-fi and the red plug to the red port on your hi-fi. Make sure you turn your iPod volume up and change your hi-fi's source setting to Aux (auxiliary, line-in or something similar). The yellow cable is for video - you might have these three connections on your TV.

Apple iPod AV Cable is stereo audio/composite video only. S-Video requires iPod Dock according to local Apple Store. (None have yet to arrive in our area and I am anxiously waiting them to come in so I can return the unopened Color iPod dock I bought by mistake.

  • Help needed with BO universe recommendations

    Hi,
I wanted to know if you can point me to any BO universe design recommendations e.g max size of database, max number of joins etc.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks
    V

    Hi Vish,
There is not limit in the design of the universe when it comes to size and complexity. Mainly limitations are imposed by the database system.
In general, some good practices would include things like:
    - Do as much data cleansing at database level;
    - Avoid using a lot of joins between tables -the use of surogate keys is good practice (data warehousing);
    - Avoid outer joins;
    - Create classes in a logical manner grouping objects together so they are easy to find;
    - Test you universe by creating various combinations of object in reports, specially if you have contexts and resolved loops and chasm traps so you get the correct results...
Hope these steer you in the right direction

  • If I get the Apple Universal Dock , what cable do I then need to get video from the dock to my HDTV . What about audio ?

If I get the Apple Universal Dock , what cable do I then need to get video to my HDTV ? What about the audio portion ?

OK, so that part is correct. Then, do I just hookup and it automatically goes onto my computer? What will capture it, or will it simply show on my desktop and I need to open it with...what?

  • Apple Composite AV cables with the universal dock

    Hi,
    I have a classic iPod 80gb w/video (i think it's 5th generation)
I recently purchased the Apple composite AV cables to listen to my ipod via the RCA inputs on my stereo's receiver. This works well.
It also has a USB cable attached so I can charge the ipod while I listen to music.
I wanted to purchase the universal dock so I can replace my old CD changer and have a nice looking iPod sitting in a nice dock where the cd changer used to be. Plus the remote would come in handy.
Since my composite cables play music and charge I figured I'd just plug the 30-pin adapter into the back of the dock and pop my ipod into the dock (i realize I'll probably need a dock apadter for my classic ipod) and i'd be able to play music and charge the ipod.
I spoke with an Apple salesmen who says that this woun't work, I need to buy a headphone (3.5 mm) to RCA adapter cable for the audio and the USB 30pin plug is only for charging.
But right now, without the dock it does both, so does anyone know if this sales person is correct? They had to do a lot of research so I know he didn't know first-hand.
    Has anyone tried this?
I'd hate to have to buy a 3.5 mm to rca cord and then not use the 39 cables I just purchased.
Thanks so much for any help.

Your 3 rca connector comes with video (yellow) and audio (red and white) and the other one is usb which you can use for charging if you plug the charger on it. no need to plug 3.5mm mono jack.

  • Video Output on iPod Classic using Apple Universal Dock and Camcorder Cable

So, after a little experimentation and research, I've found a way to use Apple's Universal iPod Dock (Apple®-iPod™ Universal Dock-MA045G/A) and my camcorder's AV cable. That's right, no need to purchase Apple's expensive and proprietary AV cables. Of course, if resolution is a concern for you, this post is not for you. Note: if you don't already have a camcorder AV cable, they can be had cheaply online or in retail stores.
Here's what my output is like:
    Composite Video
    Analog Audio
    Here's how to do it:
    Step 1:
Get an Apple Universal iPod dock (if you are fortunate enough to already own one, your cost investment is $0). If not, you can order them online, just do a google search for the model # above.
    Step 2:
Go here (http://www.oreillynet.com/pub/a/mac/2005/11/18/video-ipod.html) and follow the details of the article precisely to allow you to output video and audio. Yes, I know it's an old article for the 5G video iPod, but it still applies if you are using the Universal iPod dock.
I just tested this all, so I know it works beautifully!
    Best of luck to all!
    David

For anyone else with similar issues - Apple removed that functionality in the iPod classic and you can simply buy Apple's cables to make it work.
Sadly, I cannot use it at my gym anymore, but at least there is a solution for the rest of you!

  • Original iPhone, latest firmware, universal dock, composite AV cable ...

    and a plasma tv...
I am trying to watch some ITunes U movies on my plasma set while working out. So i buy a universal dock, the composite AV cable for the iPhone, hook it all up and try to watch an episode. What happens is that the video on the iPhone becomes frozen with the title, and i get sound but no video on the Plasma. The Plasma (having S-Video and Video in connectors) displays S-Video as the input source...
So, a basic, stupid question. If i have, let's say an HD video on the iPhone, and try to play this over TV Out, is that supposed to work over a composite cable? Or do i need to convert those videos to 576i first? Meaning, does the iphone do any kind of conversion on the fly for the signal, or not?
If it does, what else could be the problem here?
    Frank

    Frank,
I am able to play videos from my iPhone using composite cables. I have a Panasonic plasma TV and when I first tried to play a video I found It would not play using my normal "cable" setting. I had to use the remote control that came with my TV and select another "cable" setting, after which it played perfectly (sound and picture). Finally, make sure that the input jacks are pushed in all the way.

  • Would the Apple Universal Dock work with any cables?

Does anybody know if the Apple Universal Dock works with any A/V composite cables for video out from the iPhone or the Nano 3rd gen., or do I have to buy the Apple $50 cables too?

I have a U2 iPod, and I can connect it to the TV with regular composite (RCA) splitter cables getting video and audio out.... I tried and now I know that I can't use the same cables to get video out of the iPhone or the 3 gen Nano, but I thought that using the Apple Universal Dock I could. So you are saying that even using the Dock I need the 30 pin to get video out?

  • Cable equivalent of Universal Dock ?

    Hi,
What I'm looking for seems quite simple but I can't find it anywhere. I understand the Universal Dock (latest version) is the only one that supports video out using the official Apple RCA cable (which I already have). BUT, I also want to make use of the speaker/headphone socket too on the dock at the same time as pushing video out through the dock. Is there a cable that does this rather than have to use a dock ?
I need this because I'm connecting an 80Gb iPod Classic in a car where I want to route video to an external screen but feed headphones off the iPod for sound (the screen I have has no speakers). I don't want to have to plug two things into the iPod - just take everyone from the dock connector i.e. video and audio. I had looked into an RCA to 3.5mm adapter straight off the RCA cable above but I believe the impedence would be wrong so I need a separate feed of sound for the headphones.
So, in summary, I want to feed video using RCA and sound in whatever form to headphones, but both from the dock connector. Is this possible ?
    TIA

You'll find the pin outs for the dock connectors (there are minor variations between them) here, Speedcheese.
There are only four pins for the audio (two for each channel), so whatever comes out of them is what feeds the lead to the RCA connectors, and , essentially, is going to be the "best you are going to get" out of the bottom port.
A problem that I suspect you may have is obtaining controllable volume output from the audio pins without the additional circuitry provided by the dock itself.
Using the "official" cable (or anything else which simply connects to the audio pins on the iPods dock connector) I suspect you may simply get a fixed level of output (which, whatever the impedance, isn't likely to be much fun with headphones). You can test this by simply using your cable to connect to the RCA inputs on a home stereo system (or the audio inputs on a TV, for that matter) . If the volume control on the iPod itself doesn't change the volume on the stereo in such situations then the output is fixed.
One way to overcome this would be to feed from the RCA cables into a small pre-amp with variable output control, and then run your headphones from there. Depending on your cars audio system you could simply hook your audio output into it, instead. Some also have headphone outputs if you particularly want to use them.
In many ways, though, the easiest solution for you, I reckon, would simply be to incorporate a real dock into the system. The Apple one would do, but there are others out there too. That way you could get controlled audio out and separate video and audio ports.
    Cheers
    Rod
(PS - One cable you might find useful if you decide to go down the path of wiring into your auto's audio system, rather than using a dock, can be found at http://electronics-pluz.com/peipdotorcao.html . In addition to the audio and video out options it adds provision for charging. )

    1. I have an Ipod universal dock, but now need adapters. how can I order 16 to 20 adapters only?
    2. Does apple has a lead which has iphone pin on one end and HDMI on the other so that I can connect my universal apple dock to my BOSE V-30 for better sound quality than a composite cable?

  • Ipod Classic 3G (40gb) - lost cables, charge universal dock?

I have a 40gb Ipod classic that I lost the cables for during a move, was wondering if the universal dock will charge it, or just allow it to play music.
In other words, will this (http://store.apple.com/ca/product/MB125G/C) charge this (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:3Gipod_indock.jpg).
I know this ipod only charges with firewire, which is why I am wondering. If not, whats the next best option?

It only charges via Firewire? Does it not charge when you connect it to your computer to sync with iTunes using a standard dock connector cable?
If you really have a third generation iPod, according to the Dock's specs oulined in the link you provided above, it should work. If you aren't sure what generation iPod yours is, see either of these two links to help figure it out.

  • Does Apple offer RCA cables for their Universal dock?

Does Apple offer RCA cables for their Universal dock?

    Illass,
Thanks for the helpful information.  The price of the Belkin is right.  Is there a docking station with RCA cables that can also charge my I-Pod while it plays through my stereo?  Apple has an universal dock but it does not provide RCA cables.

  • Cabling from Apple Universal Dock to TV (with iPhone)

    Folks,
I am well able to get video signal from my iPhone sitting in my Apple Universal Dock to TV sets (and yes I am using Apple's Composite cable) but audio signal just doesn't come through using this cabling system. When I plug in an additional cable from the roung separatel "LINE OUT" port in the Apple Universal Dock and plug other end of that Y-cable into the audio in ports on the TV, I get the audio.
I thought the whole idea of using the "component" cable (yellow going into the yellow video port on the TV, red and white going into their respective audio ports on the TV) that the entire video and audio signals were sent out the long'ish horizontal connector from behind the dock and funneled into the red, white, and yellow connectors on the component cable's other end thus making it unnecessary to use both the "line out" port on the dock in addition to the long white horizontal plug.
What is up here and is there such a thing as one cable that has on one end the long white horizontal type plug as well as a line out plug and on the other end the red, yellow, and white plugs that go into the TV? There is none on the Apple site - just the COMPOSITE cable which is for TVs (the newest types) that offer essentially 5 ports - 3 for just video and 2 for audio.
What IS the correct way the user is supposed to be doing this????

I saw the Chart, I got the same problem as last year when I had my iPhone 3G 16GB. Apple NEVER SOLVE the issue and simply put the iPhone 3G being supported in the chart. It's not hard for them to add the 3GS for the next printed update.
Very dissappointed with Apple on the universal dock and AV component cable combo. They are not cheap either!
Anyone knows how can I connect the iPhone 3GS to computer monitor or projector just like what they did in WDC?

  • No video using S-VIdeo cable and Universal Dock

We tried using our Universal dock and my husband's Video iPod to view iTunes downloaded shows on our TV for the first time, and despite trying two different S-Video cables, we weren't able to get video (sound worked). Of course the warranty was up three weeks ago.
Any suggestions? Is it worth buying the special Apple video cable?
    Thanks,
    Natalie

Will just add to the above-are you 100% sure the iPod is completely seated in the dock?
I had experience where I was getting only audio, reseated the iPod and got video.

  • Usb converter cable help needed

I am trying to use an external microphone for iMovies.  It apears I can use a USB microphone I have, after talking to someone at Apple.
However, I need a cable which will connect the non-rectangular end of a usb cable to a 30 pin connector.  Or the newer connector if that's going to be easier.
Apple sells usb converter cables which have the "rectangular" end of a usb cable which leads to the 30 pin (obviously becuase it's the connector with the power brick).  But I need one with the different end -- the end that generally sticks into the printer or other device -- which will then connect with a 30  pin connector.  it's not a trapezoid, but more of that than a square.
Does anyone know where I can find this?  Do I need to worry where it's made?  I ask becuase I've used some Belkin cables in the past with iPods and had some issues with them connecting cleanly.  I've looked on the Apple site and seen ones that say they're for cameras, so I feared they were for the mini-usb connectors, or wouldn't work for some othere reason.
    Help would be appreciated.  Thanks.

It sounds like your mic has USB B, while the standard is USB A.
THe camera connection kit comes with a USB to 30 pin, but it's regular USB, which is A, not USB B. So maybe a USB B female to USB A male converter? Plug your mic into the converter then the converter into the apple connector.
But unless your mic is powered, I'm not sure if the iPad will power the mic through a converter, so whatever you play with you may want to make sure they have a good return policy.
If you try to use the lightning connection, which is the newer one, may be even more problimatic simply because iOS 7.0.4 activated software that looks for signed chips in plugins and those signed chips are only authorized to companies that have gotten apple's permission to make the connector.....which adds another element of 'might not work' to the whole thing.
