  • NO REMOTE BACKUP & RESTORE ON BLACKBERRY PROTECT ON BB10 OPERATING SYSTEM --- READ THIS POST

    Dear BlackBerry,
First of all I would like to establish that I am a very loyal customer of BlackBerry, so anything that I will say in this letter is because of the personal concerns shared by me and millions of loyal BlackBerry customers.
BlackBerry have launched the new BlackBerry Classic Q20 phone.
Apart from the reintroduction of the Navigation and Track pad that is above the physical keyboard and slightly bigger size.
What are the real differences between this new BlackBerry Classic Q20   and the BlackBerry Q10 ?
The main issues and concerns are that BlackBerry have reduced and in fact left out several features on the BlackBerry 10 operating system, for which was available on the BlackBerry 7 operating system, such as on the BlackBerry Bold 9900.
Some features may not be vital or important, but other features were vital and important and by BlackBerry leaving out these vital features, it beckons the question as to why are BlackBerry limiting the software functions and capabilities of the BlackBerry 10 operating system as to what the BlackBerry 7 operating system has in place.
Do not misunderstand me in what I am saying, BlackBerry is still the best in what it does and I love the product. And the BlackBerry 10 operating system does have features and functions that the BlackBerry 7 operation system does not have.
But the whole point of improvement is that BlackBerry keep the best and vital functions that are available on the BlackBerry 7 operating system and actually include those features and functions in to the BlackBerry 10 operating system. That would make sense and move forward.
There are two vital features and functions that I will now mention that are available on the BlackBerry 7 operating system but was left out of the BlackBerry 10 operating system.
Firstly, there is a feature on the BlackBerry 7 operating system, called   "SELECT ALL"
This feature allowed the user to go in to their,  photos or pictures or videos or music or documents or phone contacts folders and if the user wished to share all of those items in that particular folder to another phone device with Bluetooth or a computer with Bluetooth, or to delete all of the items in one go within that folder, then the user would not need to manually click on each item within that folder, which is time consuming especially if there may be in excess of one hundred items in each folder or more than one hundred phone contacts within the contacts folder, where the user needs to now manually click on each item using the "Select More" feature that is the available feature on the BlackBerry 10 operating system and is very time consuming.
But within the BlackBerry 7 operating system there is the feature and function that is called   "SELECT ALL"
This feature allows the user to "select all" of the individual items within the folder of their choice or the phone contacts folder, with just one click and be able to either delete all of these items or to share transfer all of these items to another device or computer that has Bluetooth.
Can BlackBerry bring this feature to the BlackBerry 10 operating system as an update as soon as possible ?
The next feature and function that was on the BlackBerry 7 operating system but was deliberately not included in the BlackBerry 10 operating system is the >
Remote Back Up   and   Remote Restore     on the  BlackBerry Protect.
This cloud back up and restore feature was vital and in the history of BlackBerry with Blackberry's advanced encryption and security, this cloud back up and restore feature was always safe and the security and protection of data being backed up and restored to and from Blackberry's cloud has NEVER been compromised or hacked or accessed in any way what so ever by anyone. And this made Blackberry's reputation for security number one and gave the loyal BlackBerry customers even more confidence in the BlackBerry product.
Now I will go in to detail why it is vital that BlackBerry must include and introduce this feature that is available on the BlackBerry 7 operating system but it is not available on the BlackBerry 10 operating system.
Firstly, the current BlackBerry protect that is available on the BlackBerry 10, has some lovely fancy features, such as remote locating of the phone and remote wiping of the phone, should it ever be lost or stolen.
The fact is, this is a good feature, but if the phone was lost forever or indeed stolen, then that's it, the device data is also lost forever and the only data that would be accessible to restore on to a new BlackBerry 10 operating system device, would be what ever the last back up that was available that was made using BlackBerry Link on the computer.
Now, doing a phone back up on BlackBerry Link on the computer, is all very well and good, but there are many limitations to this.
    Firstly,
if the owner of a BlackBerry 10 operating system device was to be at home or in the office and connect their BlackBerry 10 device to their computer to BlackBerry Link and do a full device Back Up. Then that device is now only Backed Up at that point and is only Backed Up to date at that moment.
Now imagine after that Back Up was made, the computer in which BlackBerry Link is installed on and the Back Up was made, imagine the situation where that computer broke and all the saved data was lost or destroyed for ever or that computer that had the BlackBerry Link backed up data was stolen and never recovered ? Then everything that was backed up from the BlackBerry 10 operating system device to that particular computer using BlackBerry Link, would now be lost for ever. Which means that the Back Up that was made using BlackBerry Link is pointless in this above situation.
    Second Example,
This next example is even more realistic and is vital in my argument for the Remote Back Up and Remote Restore.
Imagine for example it is a day that you decide to do a full phone Back Up of your BlackBerry 10 operating system device on your computer using BlackBerry Link. Everything is now Backed Up only on that computer and is only up to date at that moment.
Then later that day, you need to travel to another town or city or state or country, for what ever reason and you may be away for a day or several days or weeks.
While you are away, the computer that you used to make the last full Back Up using BlackBerry Link, is at your home or in your office, hundreds or thousands of miles away from where you are with your BlackBerry 10 device.
While you are away, you input new contact details or new calendar schedule entries or new memo notes or new reminders or all of these above vital entries in to your phone.
You do this the next day when you leave and then throughout your business or personal vacation, you continue to input vital information in to your BlackBerry 10 operating system device, such as new contacts, new or amended calendar entries, new memos, new tasks. All the vital information that you need stored safely and secure.
Then your BlackBerry 10 operating system device is either lost or destroyed or stolen. But whichever, it is now gone for ever and all of the NEW vital information that you have in putted in to your BlackBerry 10 operating system device since the last full Back Up that was made using BlackBerry Link on the computer that is hundreds or thousands of miles away, has now been lost for ever.
What is the point in in putting any new data or information in to your BlackBerry 10 device if a situation as mentioned above was to happen ?
Where is the benefit of only the BlackBerry Link Back Up in this above situation ?
Now if the device was a BlackBerry 7 operating system device such as the BlackBerry Bold 9900, then if the above situation was to happen, if you was away from your home or office since the last full Back Up of your device was made on a computer.
If you were hundreds or thousands of miles away and whilst you was away on vacation you need entered new contact details or new memos or new reminders or new calendar entries or amendments in to your BlackBerry 7 device. Then you can immediately after in putting these new items of information and data in to your BlackBerry 7 device, you can do a Remote Back Up  to the BlackBerry Cloud   using any connected wireless network or your mobile phone network using your data that is on your sim card to do this Remote Back Up.
Then if after this Remote Back Up was done, if the BlackBerry 7 device was lost or stolen or destroyed, then you could simply go and purchase another BlackBerry 7 operating system device and input your primary email address that was used to register the previous BlackBerry 7 device, in to the new BlackBerry 7 device and then once set up, then open up BlackBerry Protect and click on Restore and select the last saved cloud Back Up and then all of the data that you last Backed Up over BlackBerry Protect Cloud is now installed on to your newly purchased BlackBerry 7 operating system device.
This was a vital feature for total security and peace of mind of all BlackBerry users.
All BlackBerry users do NOT want to download any third party application that makes claims to offering this service as any third party application is NOT reliable and NOT safe and NOT secure.
Only the Remote Back Up and Remote Restore on the BlackBerry cloud that is available on BlackBerry Protect on the BlackBerry 7 operating system, is the only proved secure cloud back up for BlackBerry and actually works precisely and is totally safe and secure.
So I now ask the question to BlackBerry,
Why is this vital  Remote Back Up and Remote Restore feature of BlackBerry Protect that is available on the BlackBerry 7 operating system, is not on the BlackBerry 10 operating system ?
Will BlackBerry please listen to its loyal customers and please introduce the two above mentioned features as an update to the BlackBerry 10 operating system.
These above two mentioned functions and features are vital and it's what millions of loyal BlackBerry customers want installed on their BlackBerry 10 devices.
Please can someone at BlackBerry please come back to me and tell me if these above two features will be introduced to the BlackBerry 10 operating system as an update or download ?  As its what we all want back.
    Thank You.

Ditto on both points. Meanwhile I use the solution of a third party backup.

  • Restoring from blackberry protect on my old phone

    Hi,
I need to restore a backup on my old phone from Blackberry Protect, but I do not have a data service since it has been moved on my new Z10.  how can I retrieve the data?  I do have a wifi connection on the device!
    Thanks,

    Hello,
You cannot. On a legacy BB, you must have an active and adequate BIS account so as to have any use of the proprietary services, including BB Protect.
    Good luck!

  • REMOTE BACKUP & RESTORE on BlackBerry Protect for BB10 operating system ?

Does anyone at BlackBerry or anywhere else know if BlackBerry will introduce for the BlackBerry Protect on the operating 10 system, the >
REMOTE BACKUP & RESTORE feature as is available on the BlackBerry Protect on the
    operating 7 system ?
This is a vital secure cloud backup to the BlackBerry servers and was used by millions of BlackBerry customers on the BlackBerry Protect on the BlackBerry operating 7 system, but it was not included by BlackBerry on the BlackBerry Protect on the operating 10 system.
This is vital and needed most urgently so we can do secure and reliable cloud Backups and Restores from our BlackBerry 10 devices to the secure BlackBerry cloud servers.
All other third party applications to download and use as an alternative, simply do not work and are not stable or reliable or safe or secure.
This was the only totally safe and reliable and secure cloud Backup and Restore and BlackBerry must bring this feature back as either an update or as a new download, but it must be introduced in to the operating 10 software.
Please can anyone at BlackBerry or anywhere else tell me if it will be on the operating 10 software in the near future ?
Also BlackBerry must bring the ( SELECT ALL ) feature to its operating 10 software.
This was a vital feature on the operating 7 software that has also been left out.
This feature is vital when wanting to delete or transfer ALL files in a stored location on the phone or SD card.
If you have for example 100 songs or pictures or documents saved and you want to delete all in one hit, then you would just go in to that folder, for example, just the picture folder if you want to delete all pictures and then you would press >
( SELECT ALL ) and all the contents of that folder you selected would be deleted, in the same way, you can also click on > ( SELECT ALL ) on the contents of that folder to transfer those contents in one hit using Bluetooth to another mobile device or computer.
At this moment when you use a BlackBerry 10 device, this feature is not there and you need to go in to that folder and manually select each and every item that you want to delete or transfer, one item at a time, which is very time consuming and frustrating.
Does anyone at BlackBerry know if this >
( SELECT ALL ) feature will be available for the BlackBerry 10 operating system in the near future in a software update ?
    Can anyone please help ?
Any information on my above two issues ?

I know BlackBerry is working on their cloud service but no word on when or just what they will offer in the future.
As for "select all" that would be nice but haven't heard anything about it coming. It's not in 10.3.1.

  • Can data be restored, if BB Protect is wiped from a stolen phone???? HELP!!!

Lost or Stolen BlackBerry -- What to do to retrieve data?
    Hello,
I have a problem that goes a step further--my BB had BB Protect installed, but no password protection, when someone stole my phone. The carrier tells me that whomever has it has "wiped" the device (master reset?).....is there any way to restore my data when my new phone arrives? Or, I also have Total Equipment Protection app--can that help me?
The only pictures I had of family, some members who have passed away, were on the memory card. If I can't locate the phone, they are lost :' (
But there are also hundreds of phone numbers I infrequently call, but are my only connections to important people in my life; then there's also phone numbers for jobs I've applied to and the numbers I'm supposed to follow up with calls to (and names, email addresses, etc)?!
It seems like the owner of the BB Protect app should be able to retrieve their data somehow, that it shouldn't get wiped from the Protect account, even if someone wipes the phone.  Please tell me there is some way?
I really need all the info I can get--is there any way to restore what the theif wiped, at least???
Any help would be much appreciated!

You can restore the BB Protect data to any new device.  The data is backed up to a server, so the individual device is of no consequence.  However you have to take note of what data BB Protect actually backs up...  Not everything you listed is actually backed up by BB protect.  For example BB Protect does not backup pictures.  Those are only stored locally on the sdcard unless you uploaded them somewhere.

The only application that I have been using since my last back-up is whatsapp.however, I do not think that that has been causing the problem
I am using the phone in india.service provider is airtel

  • Can you retrieve BB Protect data with another program?

Can you download your Blackberry Protect date (ie. Address book) to another program?  I want to get my contact info but I no longer have a cell phone.

    Hi Thomas,
Thanks for the info. Based on my experiments, that's the conclusion I had come to as well, but it's good to get confirmation.
My work around is to break every TX transaction into small pieces. The NI 8452 supports streaming sample sizes of up to 64 bits (8 bytes). I can make a transaction that is one sample long with "samples" of 4, 6, or 8 bytes, as needed. Continuing my original example, I can do this:
    NumBytes = 8;
    ni845xSpiStreamConfigurationSetNumBits(StreamHandle, 8 * NumBytes);
    ni845xSpiStreamConfigurationSetNumSamples(StreamHandle, 1);
    ni845xSpiStreamConfigurationWave1SetMosiData(StreamHandle, WriteData, NumBytes);
    ni845xSpiStreamStart(DeviceHandle, StreamHandle);
    And I see this transmitted:
    0x0102030405060708
You can repeat the SetMosiData and StreamStart steps for each additional block of TX bytes.
I would like to use the ni845xSpiWriteRead() function (that would be much easier), but that doesn't work with the broken pre-production SPI slave I need to talk to. (We will fix it, but I need to work around the problems for today). I need to generate a very small delay at the end of the transaction between when the serial clock stops and when CS deasserts, or else my transaction is ignored. I measured the delay between SPC deassertion and CS deassertion produced by ni845xSpiWriteRead() at 1.19 us. In order to talk to my broken SPI slave, I need a much shorter delay, on the order of one SPI clock period.
So yes, I hope to upgrade to the basic SpiWriteRead function in the future, but I can't use it today.
    Thanks for your help.

  • Restoring archived data from the blackberry protect site

Hi, I just switched devices I use to use a 8520 curve now I'm using a 9380, so I want to know do I restore my archived back up cause my previous device doesn't appear on the blackberry protect site but my archived data seem to be there ?
    Thanks in advanced...

Only backups which are displayed can be restored to your phone. If you don't see any older ones, something might have gone wrong with the backups being loaded to the site. Perhaps you have an older backup done with BlackBerry Desktop Software which you could reload?
    Cheers.

  • Restoring data onto new blackberry from Blackberry Protect, last restore was from my stolen Blackberry Style 9670

Help!  My Blackberry Style 9670 (BB OS 6) was stolen.
My data was backed up daily by Blackberry Protect and nowhere else.
Will newer Blackberry Phones be able to access and restore my data from Blackberry Protect, or must I find me a refurbished BB OS 6 phone or?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

If your phone is running OS 7 or earlier, you'll be able to access that data backup; BB10 phones cannot restore data from BlackBerry Protect.
    BB10 phones are the Z10, the Z30, the Q10 and the Q5.

  • I need BlackBerry Protect app to restore my data

Someone stole my Torch 9810, I hadn´t been able to sincronize it with my desktop due to and unknown problem, I just backed it with blackberry protect. I bought Q10 instead of other brand so I could retrieve my data with Blackberry Protect´s restore function but I hadn´t been able to find it. Can I get even a beta version?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Go to your Settings (swipe down from the top bezel) > BlackBerry Protect.
To your Q10, you will be able to get a one-time restore from Protect to your Q10.
For now, Protect will not backup your Q10 data, but you will that one-time restore option.

  • Blackberry Protect - Delete data command executed on new Z10 and not lost Z10

My BB Z10 was stolen and somebody took the battery off immediately. I executed command to display message and delete data using blackberry protect. Command will be executed whenever the thief turns phone on. Afterwards, I restored data from blackberry link on my new blackberry z10 using old blackberry id. When my new z10 phone was up the commands which i sent to lost z10 got executed on my new blackberry! Now I am not able to trace lost blackberry. Somehow same pin got assigned to new blackberry on blackberry protect. Is there any way I can bring back lost blackberry details on blackberry protect and trace it?

Hi and Welcome to the Community!
Firstly, you must get your current BB using the exact same BBID credentials that were used when your old BB was using BB Protect for backup. To do so, you will have to WIPE your current BB and, when you are setting it up new again, use the same credentials from your old BB. But, take heed of this:
Article ID: KB31489 BlackBerry Protect for BlackBerry smartphones does not display any backup files to restore
If, by "archived", you did contrary to what that KB states, then it is too late...there is no recovery of things that get deleted from the BBID account.
Your situation is a perfect case study as to why BB Protect is a fine component of a good backup procedure, but by no means should it ever be counted on as the sole component.
Good luck and let us know!

Not able to sign into Blackberry Protect.  Backup and Restore function not working. Message is: "Your device isn't associated with a Blackberry ID."  My Blackberry Messenger and Blackberry World is working fine so I am sure its not an ID issue on the phone.  I can sign into Link, Blackberry.com and Protect.  I see my device in Protect but cannot send messages or view it on a map.  Times out with cannot reach device message.  BB Protect on Device has a swirling circle beside the on/of switch.  Cannot turn off.
I have deleted Link and re-installed.
I have reset phone to default(factory) and signed in.

I managed to figure this out myself. I had to delete the device from the Blackberry Protect website.  protect.blackberry.com.  I wiped my device again and signed in with my Blackberry ID.  I dont know if the step of wiping was necessary as I did not try my backup with the current configuration on the device following the delete.  Restore is in progress for me!
