Helping me choose between the 13" and 15" refurb mbook pros...

hey...i've made the decision...i'm buying a refurb macbook pro from the apple store. after a few failed attempts to get one cheaper...i decided to just pay the extra money and know what i'm getting (and who i'm getting it from). i'm looking at the 13.3" 2.53 and the 15.4" 2.4 (both 1299).
all along, i've been looking at 15.4 screens...but with the sd card, longer battery, faster processor and more RAM on the 13.3 refurb, i'm torn on whether or not i'd rather have those extras or the bigger screen.
here are a few other questions i'd like to hear your thoughts on...
1. what is the battery life like with the 15.4 refurb? as i understand it, the 13.3 has the newer battery...but the 15.4 doesnt. how much better is the new one?
2. i'll mostly use it for work stuff and for my home recording studio.
3. do any apple stores carry refurb products or do i have to order them online?
4. anyone done the credit card sign up to get 12 mos free financing?
5. if i ordered before noon tomorrow, any idea when i'd get it in Indianapolis?
6. is there a drastic keyboard size difference? i've never owned a 13.3...is the keyboard going to drive me nuts? i will test drive one tomorrow, just want to hear from your experience.
7. any chance they'll have any newer model 15.4" mbpro's refurbed on there soon?

One thing to add... the 15" MBP will give you the dedicated GPU of the 9600M GT, in addition to the 9400M. Whereas the 13" MBP will only give you the 9400M, based on your needs that could be a deal breaker. Especially if you're into 3D animation, or enjoy some gaming.
1.) The better life on my 13" has been fantastic, I routinely get 5+ hours off a full charge with normal usage and have (on a few occasions) gotten well over 6 hours. On my 15" I'd get 3.5 hours under the same performance, running the 9400M. I never carried an extra battery with me, as I was never mobile for that long (away from access to power).
2.) Day-to-day usage, I don't think you'll see a huge performance difference between the two machines. Definitely the screen size boost might be important to you. I personally have my 13" & 15" hooked up to an external monitor when I'm at my desk so the screen size was never a huge deal for me.
3.) Apple Stores have EOL products (End of Life) right after a refresh of a product, but it's usually a limited time basis and a first come, first served basis. As far as refurbished machines, yes they're only available via the online store. The EOL products typically carry a 20-25% discount off their MSRP. So for example, when the MacBook Pro was refreshed at WWDC, for about a week after that my local retail store carried the "old" model at for $1499 (when it was $1999). The unit was still brand new, in sealed packaging.
4.) I did the Juniper card for a purchase about two years ago. It took them about 48 hours to approve me and it was for less than I felt my credit deserved. Not to mention their APR was through the roof (23.99%) and I didn't qualify for the 12-month incentive. Odd considering I'm a home owner and an AMEX gold card member for 10+ years now. There are better financing options out there.
5.) All of the refurbished computers I've purchased through Apple ship it about 2-3 days (regardless of whether it says 24 hours or not). It's never been an instant ship, like a new machine has been for me. With ground shipping, the machine will most likely come from Elk Grove, CA so I'd anticipate an additional 2-3 days in shipping.

It sounds like you have assigned the primary click on the trackpad to something else, perhaps a gesture.
Use your mouse, login and then open the Trackpad preference pane and see how you have the interface configured.
Oh and you can have both the Magic Mouse and Magic Trackpad powered up and working at the same time. No need to keep moving batteries around.

In a technical sense, the differences between the displays on the iPhone 4 vs 4s are vast. I'm mean, they are both attached to 70 - 90% of the internal components and far from interchangeable. There are no differences however, that are noticeable by the user.

Remove the iPhone from the list of devices in the car. Remove the car from the list of devices in the iPhone. Turn Bluetooth off on the phone and reset the phone. hodl the sleep/wake and home buttons together until you see the Apple logo and release. The phone will reboot. Turn the car on and put the radio into discovery/pairing mode. Turn Bluetooth on for the iPhone which puts it into discovery/pairing mode. The two should see each other.

Tethering via USB between the Z10 and a laptop or PC & and few Comments About the Playbook Tethering

Tethering via USB between the Z10 and a laptop or PC can be a bit tricky.
On the Z10 do the following:
On the Z10 go to the Settings.
Go to Network Connections.
Go to Internet Tethering.
Select USB.
Turn on Tethering.
On the computer run the Blackberry Link software for the Z10:
Once the software starts, connect the Z10 via the USB cable to the PC.
Open the browser.
You should now be able to cruise the net, and do emails.
With the Playbook, the Bluetooth tethering does not yet work. This may be an OS or communications issue.
The best way to tether the Playbook for full speed and functions is using the WiFi option. Simply turn on the WiFi hot spot option and follow the instructions. The Playbook WiFi must also be properly set up. The Z10 USB and Bluetooth tethering mode must be turned off when using the WiFi mode. You can leave the base Bluetooth active on the Z10. There is a lot of available information about using the WiFi hot spot from the Z10. The process is very similar to the past models of Blackberry phones.
If you use the Bridge mode to tether, the Playbook email client software does not work very well. The browser will work fairly well, but slower with the Bridge mode. With WiFi the Playbook can brows at very high speed. With Bluetooth it is restricted to about 1.5 to 2.5 mb/sec. Take care that the WiFi mode burns through battery time very fast on both the Playbook and the Z10. Using the Bridge mode uses less power consumption than WiFi.
To use the Bridge mode, make sure the Playbook and the Z10 are first Bluetooth mated. Also the Bridge mode has to be set up between the devices. You will have to first install the Bridge software in to the phone for this to work.
I did extensive testing between the Z10 and the Playbook. They function well together as far as Internet and email are concerned, in consideration of using either tether or Bridge, depending on what you want to do.
From what I understand the Bridge mode uses some compression. It will not be as fast as using WiFi or Bluetooth tethering. The data cost using the Bridge mode is probably a bit lower because of the compression.
As far as the Bridge phone options are concerned, these features are not yet available. From what I read in a number of articles there are going to soon be some updates coming out to fix this. The Bridge options are a big part of the tablet application with the Blackberry phone. This was the big original application point of this tablet, otherwise any generic tablet would do the job.

From the look of this thread it appears that no one outside of Canada uses an OS 10 BB yet. 247 views and no comments or help ? I'm sure I'm not the only BB user that uses Tether. If BB doesn't care to help then this will just be another nail in the corporate coffin that has been projected.
Maybe we need different forums for US users as the Canadians don't seem to have the same issues or cares.
The whole idea of the app Tether is not to have to pay the outrageous tethering fees that US carriers charge and it has worked well for years. But it can't work and won't work in the future without help from BB and the BB community.

Let me give the history - I started with an Apple Express being fed thru a D-Link EBTR 2310 cable Router from an RCA DCM315 Modem (Pure). Comcast service all the way.
Got the 1st generation TC in 2008 and merely replaced the Airport Express with the TC. Worked ok
A year or two ago I did try removing the modem and feeding the TC directly from the modem. Resulted in the same condition I have now - Continuous flashing amber on the TC. So I put the router back in the chain.
Some time later, at the recommendation of a Comcast rep, I replaced the router with (a Belkin F5D 5231) to see if speed and dropout problems would be improved. I thought it helped some at the time but now I am not so sure.
Last week I decided to see if a new modem would help with download speeds. So I got another pure cable modem (Motorola SB 6121- high on the Comcast recommended list).
Got up and running easily with Comcast help and with the modem connected directly to a computer.
Next I put the TC in the link and again could not get past the TC continuing to flash amber. Although I did get connected to the internet with this configuration I lost connection two both of my printers - one connected by USB and the other wirelessly to the TC. Again everything works fine when I put the Belkin router back in the system.
However with the router in there, the modem shows the downstream connection to be 10/100 ethernet speed. (Modem light changes color for indicating speeds.}
I have gone thru all of the combinations of powering down/ up, but all stays the same.
I can live with what I have but something still doesn’t seem right.

Can't establish wireless connection between the printer and computer.

I recently upgraded my wireless to an Apple AirPort Time Capsule. I'm able to set up the printer via USB cable. And I'm able to set up the printer on the network via the Airport WPA utility. However I cannot establish a wireless connection between the computer and the printer. When I go to the printers window in my system prefereces, there is no wireless printer available to add in the "available printers" menu. Only the USB version printer is listed and of course when I disconnect the USB cable it shows as offline.I've tried all the fixes on HP's support pages. I've tried reinstalling the printer on both the router and the computer numerous times. The only thing I haven't done is reinstall the printer using the "Install Wizard" software that is supposed to come with the printer - (mine never came with it in the first place and of course HP doesn't have it available for download). And when I reset the printer to factory settings, then connect it to the computer via the USB, there is no installation software that pops up. Cant even find the **bleep** thing in "Finder". (I'm assuming that it should show up as some sort of external device.) I've checked to make sure both computer and printer are on the same network. (sometimes my computer will grab a connection with the next nearest network.) I've checked all the settings for the printer via the HTML configuration utility. I've even updated my Macbook software and restarted it multiple times. Note: the printer actually worked for a bit when I first switched routers, but the printer's wireless function went offline several times and then quit altogether. Really frustrated that I bought another HP product thinking this time things would be different. HP is no help unless you want to pay $$ for a phone call. I'm about ready to take this thing out in the desert to use for target practice and never buy another HP product ever again.

When I go to the printers window in my system preferences, there is no wireless printer available to add in the "available printers" menu.This could be an issue with your print system, I recommend resetting the printing system and then Repair Disk Permissions - after that try to add the printer again.

I'd like to toggle between the source and timeline and bypass the program tab - what is this called in the shortcut tab?

When editing, I have to press my shortcut twice to get back to the source window as it goes via the program monitor first. Is there an assignable shortcut just between the timeline and source? If so, what is it called?

If so many people have the same question and concern about this, why is it consistently ignored? I've seen countless posts like this that are told to ignore the logs or to only dump when asked to. How can those of us that have these questions get an answer? Can I im someone who can help me or are they being ignored because it it evidence that our devices have been jailbroken without our knowledge?
If you can point me in the direction of someone who is willing to help I would greatly appreciate it!

Using a KVM switch between the Mini and a PC

I've just bought a Mini to try out the whole Mac experience.
I'm having trouble getting a KVM switch to work with the Mac.
I have a Tripp Lite B034-002-R KVM switch to share between the Mini and my WinXP PC. The switch changes over to the other computer when you press NUM LOCK twice within 2 seconds. This is working in the PC (i.e. switching from the PC to the Mac is fine) but is not working in the Mac (i.e. the switch doesn't change from the Mac to the PC).
I have a MS "Natural Keyboard Pro" USB keyboard.
Is the NUM LOCK key somehow disabled or something on the Mac? I'm hoping there's some knob I can turn to get this working.

I bought an IOGEAR GCS632U KVM switch to move between my Mini and Windows XP Pro PC. The keyboard is an Apple Pro. The switch was perfect for several days, then every attempt at invoking the hot key mode would fail; resetting the switch would not correct the problem. IOGEAR Support had me try another keyboard, which is the current standard Apple wired keyboard (the $30 one); it had the same problem as the Pro keyboard. Also we tried other things, but all failed. Sent the KVM switch to IOGEAR and they sent me a new one. After two days using the new switch, the keyboard malfunctioned; this time it was the backward delete key that failed. Same problem using other Apple keyboard. IOGEAR Support, after going through the same previous routine in which nothing succeeded in correcting the problem, tells me to return the switch and they will send me another. Based on my experience, apparently the GCS632U model has an incompatibility problem with (some?) Apple keyboards. This is confirmed by two posts on other discussion groups sites. Also, IOGEAR Support would almost admit that to be the case. They suggested that I use a generic keyboard, but I refuse to buy one just to use that KVM switch. IOGEAR should post the potential problem on their website as a warning.
Does anyone out there know from experience that a particular IOGEAR model does work with an Apple keyboard? IOGEAR Support says that they will send me a different model if I pay the difference. Or can anyone give me the brand name and model number of any KVM switch known to be compatible with Apple keyboards (particularly one that costs less thatn $75)? A ConnectPro 2-port USB KVM switch will work, according to another discussion group post. Any advice or information will be much appreciated.

Differences between the T420i and the T420

Hey everyone,
I currently own a X61. I have been thinking of buying a T420, and right now, with the ongoing 4th of july sale, plus a corporate discount, it's a pretty good deal.
The only problem I have is that I don't quite understand what the difference is between the T420i and the T420. As far as I can see, the only difference is the processor (i3 vs i5), but other than that the configuration seems the same. I have looked at the tabook, and I don't see any significant difference. Still, the the difference in model nomenclature (that pesky "i") bothers me. Am I missing anything here?
Any help will be greatly appreciated.

ABC employee Effective date should be of future dated 10-jan-2011.
But ABC employee joining date has been entered on 10-Aug-2010.
amd also this date is also ended by updating on 10-Dec-2010.
But these records are wrong.This employee's effective date should be form 01-Jan-2011.
how to datetrack.

There are several possible causes for this problem.
1. Two (or more) computers on the local network have the same Bonjour name, such as "X's-MacBook-Pro.local".
2. You have two simultaneous connections to the same local network: probably Ethernet and Wi-Fi. If applicable, disconnect the Ethernet cable or turn off Wi-Fi.
3. A Mac wakes from sleep due to network traffic. This is due to a bug in OS X that may only affect some models.
4. A device that gets its network address from the router wakes from sleep, and the address it was using before has been assigned to another device.
5. A third-party wireless router has incompatible settings or firmware. In that case, refer to the manufacturer or ISP for support. Restarting the router may help, temporarily.

I just wanted to step in (which is not normal) to say something that most people overlook is that the EOS Rebel T5i has a self-cleaning sensor where the EOS Rebel T5 does NOT; also, the T5i can use an IR Remote (like the RC-6), and the T5 can only use cable releases. These are minor things until you need them!
I hope those two little things help!
