Here are my thoughts on PRE8 "it donot work........"

A wast of money,it does not work , testing and testing, crash after crash not able to save , not able to do simple dvd's , crashs ,I have put it in the box of software that does not work. Now before the poeple that say check your pc check this and check that go to this link use the problem to endit all............ All our PC are biuld for NLE they are spec and they are tested. PPRo CS4 works well after 4 updates  , Canopus Edius 4.61 works very well, Photoshop cs3 work. After removing PRE8 I install, PPRO2 , to test the DVD side and it works very very well .
It seems every year the sitution with new programsand software  have more and more problems , thread after  thread from users have problems. It should not have to be like this,I would understand if the PC's that were used were  not working with the other problems but the work , PRE 8 should be robust and work as it is made for the layman and home use with  very little problem if any , I understand if the Pro version have problems.
Adobe I challenge you for once to make sure something that works before releasted , somthing which will work on most PC's ,Solid and stable.
Stop putting software on the market that is bug riden.

As Steve points out, we are all but "users," trying to help other users with issues. The only Adobe presence here is the logo in the upper-left of the pages. That is as far as it goes. Now, there might be Adobe employees reading, but that is highly unlikely and if so, is subrosa. We've only had one employee show up here in the last several months, and he came as a user, with some questions.
Again, if you have details, and explicit problems, it might be beneficial to post those, plus your full system, Project and Asset details. OTOH, if you do not wish to explore what might be useful, then that is your prerogative to do so.
Good luck,
Hunt

  • Someone asked whether ATV was worth it or not - here are my thoughts

Whether or not ATV is a good product probably depends on where youlive. Im writing from Adelaide Australia and ATV is a disappointmentfor me right now.
The best download speed my ISP can provide - which Ithink is the standard at moment in this part of the world - is simplynot enough to use ATV without major hassles. I have to wait at least 2hours for movie to download, so it takes quite a bit of spontaneity outof home movie watching.
There are also some features I just cant figure. For example, I purchased and downloaded a movie last week (took 2 hours) but could not watch it at the time. However, I went to watch this evening thinking that it would have been stored somewhere on ATV, but no.  I had message that it was downloading (again!) and would take(another!) 2 hours.
All of this is especially annoying because I thought ATV would be a better option to going to the local video store. Itisn't. Its just a nuisance and a waste of time and money for me.

BTW does anyone else have a problem in replying to postings? I cant (that's why Im writing here). I keep getting a red message saying there is an error. Thoughts?

The Apple TVs implementation of streaming is very poor. It works as if it has no buffer or cache so if you have a less that 5mb connection it is worthless for streaming of any kind. The Netflix, Podcast, and YouTube streaming works fine but the rentals simply do not work for users that do not have a extra fast connection.
I had to up my connections speed from 3mb to 6mb before it was acceptable. And then twice now I have been watching a rental and it stops right in the middle of the show and the show is never seen again on the Apple TV, unless I rent it again an hope it plays all the way through this time.
I use my Apple TV all the time for everything but Apple TV rentals because that system is horribly broken.

My wife has an iPhone with an Apple address and password.  I now have an iPad and am unable to obtain an Apple ID.  I have tried using her's and am  unable to create a Free Apple ID as our email address (Apple ID) is being used by her.  Any thoughts - Thanks Colin.
    PS Hope ths explains it

Why can't you use her ID? My wife, my daughter and I all use my Apple ID.
Go to Settings>Store>Apple ID and try to sign in there with her ID. Make sure that you are entering all of the information (password) correctly.
If you really want to create a new Apple ID - use your own email address, but I would recommend using only one ID anyway.

  • This is to sum up the problem. Here are facts :

This is to sum up the problem. Here are facts :
    1. Java process size grows to ~ 3G and eventually exhaust native memory. Only
data segment of the process grows in size.
    2. Java heap size remains stable, way under the max size. Perm generation
size is stable, way under the max size.
Here is a table showing evolution of Java process Virtual Memory
Start Monitoroing Java exited with OutOfMem
VmSize: 2764108 kB VmSize: 3094912 kB
VmLck: 0 kB VmLck: 0 kB
VmRSS: 1737364 kB VmRSS: 2020136 kB
    VmData: 2461448 kB => VmData: 2792252 kB
VmStk: 216 kB VmStk: 216 kB
VmExe: 56 kB VmExe: 56 kB
VmLib: 301488 kB VmLib: 301488 kB
Plase note that Exe, Stack and Libs are the same at the beginning and the endof the period. Data segment increased for about 0.4G. The memory leak takes place in the native code.

Exception in thread "CompilerThread1" java.lang.OutOfMemoryError: requested 612052 bytes for Chunk::new. Out of swap space?

100M doesn't seem too extreme ... I ran a test program that created 100 sleeping threads, and ps -l reported the process size as 77M. I don't know Linux well enough to know the threading model (I suspect it's LWP-per-thread, which means that ps -m will give correct output).
However, given what you've shown (heap doesn't grow, process map does, failure occurs in code that starts a new thread), it really seems that your problem has something to do with too many threads.
My first thought, since I've seen it before is that there may be fragmentation of the memory map, such that there's no available segment when the JVM tries to allocate the stack for a new thread. When I saw this problem, the JVM (1.3 Solaris) was using a pretty naive approach to mapping those blocks, such that a few long-lived threads would cause it to run out of space. This information is available in the /proc/maps directory (man proc for more info).
There could also be some limit to the number of threads you can create. I know that Solaris returns ENOMEM when it's unable to create a thread; not sure what Linux returns.
Finally, I'm going to suggest again that you put logging messages in the thread factory that you're giving to the pool. Since you control that code, it's an excellent way to watch what's really happening at the time you run out of memory.

Things You Can Do To Resolve Slow Downs
If your computer seems to be running slower here are some things you can do:
    Start with visits to:     OS X Maintenance - MacAttorney;
                                      The X Lab: The X-FAQs;
                                      The Safe Mac » Mac Performance Guide;
                                      The Safe Mac » The myth of the dirty Mac;
                                      Mac maintenance Quick Assist.
Boot into Safe Mode then repair your hard drive and permissions:
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions Pre-Lion
Boot from your OS X Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer.
    Repair the Hard Drive - Lion/Mountain Lion/Mavericks
    Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the Utilites Menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD disk icon and click on the arrow button below.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. If no errors are reported, then click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu. Select Restart from the Apple menu.
Restart your computer normally and see if this has helped any. Next do some maintenance:
For situations Disk Utility cannot handle the best third-party utility is Disk Warrior;  DW only fixes problems with the disk directory, but most disk problems are caused by directory corruption; Disk Warrior 4.x is now Intel Mac compatible.
Note: Alsoft ships DW on a bootable DVD that will startup Macs running Snow Leopard or earlier. It cannot start Macs that came with Lion or later pre-installed, however, DW will work on those models.
    Suggestions for OS X Maintenance
OS X performs certain maintenance functions that are scheduled to occur on a daily, weekly, or monthly period. The maintenance scripts run in the early AM only if the computer is turned on 24/7 (no sleep.) If this isn't the case, then an excellent solution is to download and install a shareware utility such as Macaroni, JAW PseudoAnacron, or Anacron that will automate the maintenance activity regardless of whether the computer is turned off or asleep.  Dependence upon third-party utilities to run the periodic maintenance scripts was significantly reduced since Tiger.  These utilities have limited or no functionality with Snow Leopard or later and should not be installed.
OS X automatically defragments files less than 20 MBs in size, so unless you have a disk full of very large files there's little need for defragmenting the hard drive.
    Helpful Links Regarding Malware Protection
An excellent link to read is Tom Reed's Mac Malware Guide.
Also, visit The XLab FAQs and read Detecting and avoiding malware and spyware.
    See these Apple articles:
Mac OS X Snow Leopard and malware detection
OS X Lion- Protect your Mac from malware
OS X Mountain Lion- Protect your Mac from malware
About file quarantine in OS X
If you require anti-virus protection I recommend using VirusBarrier Express 1.1.6 or Dr.Web Light both from the App Store. They're both free, and since they're from the App Store, they won't destabilize the system. (Thank you to Thomas Reed for these recommendations.)
    Troubleshooting Applications
I recommend downloading a utility such as TinkerTool System, OnyX, Mavericks Cache Cleaner, or Cocktail that you can use for removing old log files and archives, clearing caches, etc. Corrupted cache, log, or temporary files can cause application or OS X crashes as well as kernel panics.
If you have Snow Leopard or Leopard, then for similar repairs install the freeware utility Applejack.  If you cannot start up in OS X, you may be able to start in single-user mode from which you can run Applejack to do a whole set of repair and maintenance routines from the command line.  Note that AppleJack 1.5 is required for Leopard. AppleJack 1.6 is compatible with Snow Leopard. Applejack does not work with Lion and later.
    Basic Backup
For some people Time Machine will be more than adequate. Time Machine is part of OS X. There are two components:
    1. A Time Machine preferences panel as part of System Preferences;
    2. A Time Machine application located in the Applications folder. It is
used to manage backups and to restore backups. Time Machine
requires a backup drive that is at least twice the capacity of the
        drive being backed up.
Alternatively, get an external drive at least equal in size to the internal hard drive and make (and maintain) a bootable clone/backup. You can make a bootable clone using the Restore option of Disk Utility. You can also make and maintain clones with good backup software. My personal recommendations are (order is not significant):
      1. Carbon Copy Cloner
      2. Get Backup
      3. Deja Vu
      4. SuperDuper!
      5. Synk Pro
      6. Tri-Backup
Visit The XLab FAQs and read the FAQ on backup and restore.  Also read How to Back Up and Restore Your Files. For help with using Time Machine visit Pondini's Time Machine FAQ for help with all things Time Machine.
Referenced software can be found at MacUpdate.
    Additional Hints
Be sure you have an adequate amount of RAM installed for the number of applications you run concurrently. Be sure you leave a minimum of 10% of the hard drive's capacity as free space.
Add more RAM. If your computer has less than 2 GBs of RAM and you are using OS X Leopard or later, then you can do with more RAM. Snow Leopard and Lion work much better with 4 GBs of RAM than their system minimums. The more concurrent applications you tend to use the more RAM you should have.
Always maintain at least 15 GBs or 10% of your hard drive's capacity as free space, whichever is greater. OS X is frequently accessing your hard drive, so providing adequate free space will keep things from slowing down.
Check for applications that may be hogging the CPU:
    Pre-Mavericks
Open Activity Monitor in the Utilities folder.  Select All Processes from the Processes dropdown menu.  Click twice on the CPU% column header to display in descending order.  If you find a process using a large amount of CPU time (>=70,) then select the process and click on the Quit icon in the toolbar.  Click on the Force Quit button to kill the process.  See if that helps.  Be sure to note the name of the runaway process so you can track down the cause of the problem.
    Mavericks and later
Open Activity Monitor in the Utilities folder.  Select All Processes from the View menu.  Click on the CPU tab in the toolbar.
Often this problem occurs because of a corrupted cache or preferences file or an attempt to write to a corrupted log file.

  • How many books are approved a day - here are some stats

Do you want to know why it is taking forever to get your iBook approved? Do you wonder how many books are actually approved per day? I was asking myself the same question and because Apple doesn't release any numbers, I monitored the numbers on the iBookstore recently to get an idea.
Here are the numbers (just to get a rough idea, not scientifically proven)
The iBookstore has finally a feature that lets you browse only iBooks (aka Multi-Touch Books). It displays the numbers of all available Paid and Free iBooks. That is what I was monitoring each morning.
When I started to monitor the iBookstore on May15th it had a total of 3,217 iBooks. If you use January 19th as the start date, then Apple would have approved an average of 26 books a day.
Now here is a table where I wrote down the number from the iBookstore each morning of that day. The two columns next to it show the difference (how many approved that day) and the total number of approved iBooks (paid and free)
There are a few interesting conclusions you can draw from the numbers.
    * You see a drop over the weekend. Maybe that is proof that the department is located in the US and not in China or India.
    * The approval numbers fluctuate but the average is about twice as high as the 26 books from the original start. So they must have hired more staff (or reading faster)
    * Interesting that there was a big junk of free iBooks yanked off the bookstore
Another unscientific info about the bestseller ranking from my own stats.
With about 10 sales a day I land in the 30s rank.
WIth about 2 sales a day it ranges from number 50-100
Those numbers fluctuate wildly and I'm sure there are other factors (i.e. total sales) in that calculation.
It would be interesting to hear numbers and experiences from other users.

These numbers are upper bounds, as book titles can be in up to three categories. So the real number of unique titles is probably closer to 1/3 or 1/2 of the 1.33 million, which is close to K T's 700,000 number.
Amazon and Apple are similar in total number of titles (with a few different categories). I had expected there to be much less titles in the Apple bookstore compared to Amazon. So selection size isn't much of a differentiator anymore. That said, number of sales are still far higher in the Amazon store. Many early eBook adopters still prefer their Kindle over the iPad when looking for new eBooks.

have 2 imac computers and here are my questions: first, how to I transfer the information from my contact directory from my old imac into my new imac?  Once the information is transfered how can I print it? Second: I have a large music collection in my old Imac computer how do I transfer this information to my new computer? Also how can I share this information with other computers at home?

A Basic Guide for Migrating to Intel-Macs
The Knowledgebase article Intel-based Mac: Some migrated applications may need to be updated refers to methods of dealing with migrating from PowerPC chips to Intel with the Migration Assistant safely. The authors of this tip have not had a chance to verify this works in all instances, or that it avoids the 10.6.1 and earlier Guest Account bug that caused account information to get deleted upon use of the Migration/Setup Assistant. However, a well backed up source that includes at least two backups of all the data that are not connected to your machine will help you avoid potential issues, should they arise. In event it does not work, follow the steps below.
If you are migrating a PowerPC system (G3, G4, or G5) to an Intel-Mac be careful what you migrate.  Keep in mind that some items that may get transferred will not work on Intel machines and may end up causing your computer's operating system to malfunction.
Rosetta supports "software that runs on the PowerPC G3, G4, or G5 processor that are built for Mac OS X". This excludes the items that are not universal binaries or simply will not work in Rosetta:
Classic Environment, and subsequently any Mac OS 9 or earlier applications
Screensavers written for the PowerPC System Preference add-ons
All Unsanity Haxies Browser and other plug-ins
    Contextual Menu Items
Applications which specifically require the PowerPC G5 Kernel extensions
Java applications with JNI (PowerPC) libraries
See also What Can Be Translated by Rosetta.
In addition to the above you could also have problems with migrated cache files and/or cache files containing code that is incompatible.
If you migrate a user folder that contains any of these items, you may find that your Intel-Mac is malfunctioning. It would be wise to take care when migrating your systems from a PowerPC platform to an Intel-Mac platform to assure that you do not migrate these incompatible items.
If you have problems with applications not working, then completely uninstall said application and reinstall it from scratch. Take great care with Java applications and Java-based Peer-to-Peer applications. Many Java apps will not work on Intel-Macs as they are currently compiled. As of this time Limewire, Cabos, and Acquisition are available as universal binaries. Do not install browser plug-ins such as Flash or Shockwave from downloaded installers unless they are universal binaries. The version of OS X installed on your Intel-Mac comes with special compatible versions of Flash and Shockwave plug-ins for use with your browser.
The same problem will exist for any hardware drivers such as mouse software unless the drivers have been compiled as universal binaries. For third-party mice the current choices are USB Overdrive or SteerMouse. Contact the developer or manufacturer of your third-party mouse software to find out when a universal binary version will be available.
Also be careful with some backup utilities and third-party disk repair utilities. Disk Warrior, TechTool Pro , SuperDuper , and Drive Genius  work properly on Intel-Macs with Leopard.  The same caution may apply to the many "maintenance" utilities that have not yet been converted to universal binaries.  Leopard Cache Cleaner, Onyx, TinkerTool System, and Cocktail are now compatible with Leopard.
Before migrating or installing software on your Intel-Mac check MacFixit's Rosetta Compatibility Index.

Transferring data with Setup Assistant - Migration Assistant FAQ
Because Migration Assistant isn't the ideal way to migrate from PowerPC to Intel Macs, using Target Disk Mode, copying the critical contents to CD and DVD, an external hard drive, or networking will work better when moving from PowerPC to Intel Macs.  The initial section below discusses Target Disk Mode.  It is then followed by a section which discusses networking with Macs that lack Firewire.
If both computers support the use of Firewire then you can use the following instructions:
    1. Repair the hard drive and permissions using Disk Utility.
    2. Backup your data.  This is vitally important in case you make a mistake or there's some other problem.
    3. Connect a Firewire cable between your old Mac and your new Intel Mac.
    4. Startup your old Mac in Transferring files between two computers using FireWire.
    5. Startup your new Mac for the first time, go through the setup and registration screens, but do NOT migrate data over. Get to your desktop on the new Mac without migrating any new data over.
If you are not able to use a Firewire connection (for example you have a Late 2008 MacBook that only supports USB:)
    1. Set up a local home network: Creating a small Ethernet Network.
    2. If you have a MacBook Air or Late 2008 MacBook see the following:
    MacBook (13-inch, Aluminum, Late 2008) and MacBook Pro (15-inch, Late 2008)- What to do if migration is unsuccessful;
    MacBook Air- Migration Tips and Tricks;
MacBook Air- Remote Disc, Migration, or Remote Install Mac OS X and wireless 802.11n networks.
Copy the following items from your old Mac to the new Mac:
In your /Home/ folder: Documents, Movies, Music, Pictures, and Sites folders.
    In your /Home/Library/ folder:
/Home/Library/Application Support/AddressBook (copy the whole folder) /Home/Library/Application Support/iCal (copy the whole folder)
Also in /Home/Library/Application Support (copy whatever else you need including folders for any third-party applications)
/Home/Library/Keychains (copy the whole folder) /Home/Library/Mail (copy the whole folder) /Home/Library/Preferences/ (copy the whole folder) /Home /Library/Calendars (copy the whole folder) /Home /Library/iTunes (copy the whole folder) /Home /Library/Safari (copy the whole folder)
    If you want cookies:
    /Home/Library/Cookies/Cookies.plist /Home/Library/Application Support/WebFoundation/HTTPCookies.plist
    For Entourage users:
Entourage is in /Home/Documents/Microsoft User Data Also in /Home/Library/Preferences/Microsoft.
Credit goes to Macjack for this information.
If you need to transfer data for other applications please ask the vendor or ask in the  Discussions where specific applications store their data.
    5. Once you have transferred what you need restart the new Mac and test to make sure the contents are there for each of the applications.

You installed a variant of the "VSearch" trojan. Remove it as follows.
This malware has many variants. Anyone else finding this comment should not expect it to be applicable.
Back up all data before proceeding.
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
    /Library/LaunchAgents/com.laser.agent.plist
Right-click or control-click the line and select
Services ▹ Reveal in Finder (or just Reveal)
from the contextual menu.* A folder should open with an item selected. Drag the selected item to the Trash. You may be prompted for your administrator login password.
Repeat with each of these lines:
    /Library/LaunchDaemons/com.laser.daemon.plist
    /Library/LaunchDaemons/com.laser.helper.plist
Restart the computer and empty the Trash. Then delete the following items in the same way:
    /Library/Application Support/laser
    /System/Library/Frameworks/v.framework
The trouble may have started when you downloaded and ran an application called "MPlayerX." That's the name of a legitimate free movie player, but the name is also used fraudulently to distribute VSearch. If there is an item with that name in the Applications folder, delete it, and if you wish, replace it with the genuine article from mplayerx.org.
This trojan is often found on illegal websites that traffic in pirated content such as movies. If you, or anyone else who uses the computer, visit such sites and follow prompts to install software, you can expect more of the same, and worse, to follow. Never install any software that you downloaded from a bittorrent, or that was downloaded by someone else from an unknown source.
In the Security & Privacy pane of System Preferences, select the General tab. The radio button marked Anywhere  should not be selected. If it is, click the lock icon to unlock the settings, then select one of the other buttons. After that, don't ignore a warning that you are about to run or install an application from an unknown developer.
Then, still in System Preferences, open the App Store or Software Update pane and check the box marked
Install system data files and security updates (OS X 10.10 or later)
    or
Download updates automatically (OS X 10.9 or earlier)
    if it's not already checked.
*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination  command-C. In the Finder, select
              Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar and paste into the box that opens by pressing command-V. You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.
    B
"ZipCloud" is some sort of cloud-storage service with a doubtful reputation. The OS X client is sometimes distributed along with malware. Although ZipCloud may not be malicious itself, it should be deemed suspect by virtue of the company it keeps.
To remove ZipCloud, start by backing up all data (not with ZipCloud itself, of course.)
Quit the application, if it's running, and drag it from the Applications folder to the Trash.
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
    ~/Library/LaunchAgents/com.jdibackup.ZipCloud.autostart.plist
Right-click or control-click the highlighted line and select
Services ▹ Reveal in Finder (or just Reveal)
from the contextual menu.* A folder should open with a file selected. Move the selected file to the Trash.
In the same folder, there may also be a file named
               com.jdibackup.ZipCloud.notify.plist
Move that to the Trash as well.
Log out or restart the computer and empty the Trash.
    C
The following Safari extensions are malicious and should be removed in the Extensions pane of the Safari preferences window:
              Searchme
Do the equivalent in the Chrome and Firefox browsers, if you use those. Never install any extension with the words "Spigot," "Conduit," "Genieo," or "Trovi" in the description.
    D
Some of your user files (not system files) have incorrect permissions or are locked. This procedure will unlock those files and reset their ownership, permissions, and access controls to the default. If you've intentionally set special values for those attributes, they will be reverted. In that case, either stop here, or be prepared to recreate the settings if necessary. Do so only after verifying that those settings didn't cause the problem. If none of this is meaningful to you, you don't need to worry about it, but you do need to follow the instructions below.
Back up all data before proceeding.
    Step 1
If you have more than one user, and the one in question is not an administrator, then go to Step 2.
Enter the following command in the Terminal window in the same way as before (triple-click, copy, and paste):
    sudo find ~ $TMPDIR.. -exec chflags -h nouchg,nouappnd,noschg,nosappnd {} + -exec chown -h $UID {} + -exec chmod +rw {} + -exec chmod -h -N {} + -type d -exec chmod -h +x {} + 2>&-
You'll be prompted for your login password, which won't be displayed when you type it. Type carefully and then press return. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you don’t have a login password, you’ll need to set one before you can run the command. If you see a message that your username "is not in the sudoers file," then you're not logged in as an administrator.
The command may take several minutes to run, depending on how many files you have. Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign ($) to appear, then quit Terminal.
    Step 2 (optional)
Take this step only if you have trouble with Step 1, if you prefer not to take it, or if it doesn't solve the problem.
Start up in Recovery mode. When the OS X Utilities screen appears, select
              Utilities ▹ Terminal
from the menu bar. A Terminal window will open. In that window, type this:
    resetp
Press the tab key. The partial command you typed will automatically be completed to this:
    resetpassword
Press return. A Reset Password window will open. You’re not going to reset a password.
Select your startup volume ("Macintosh HD," unless you gave it a different name) if not already selected.
Select your username from the menu labeled Select the user account if not already selected.
Under Reset Home Directory Permissions and ACLs, click the Reset button.
    Select
               ▹ Restart
    from the menu bar.

  • What is the underlying issue?  Here are the symptoms...

I have a combination of issues here, and they all seemed to be linked but I cannot wrap my head around it.  Here goes:
    (1) System Preferences freezes when I try to alter trackpad settings
    (2) Mac Software Updates will not install and cites an "input/output error"
    (3) Google Voice & Video Plug-In will download but doesn't link properly to Gmail, and I continue to be prompted ot download plug-in
    (4) Skype downloads without a problem, but freezes upon first launch
I have rebooted many times, deleted downloads and repeated them dozens of times, and tinkered with a few smaller elements.  But what is my underlying issue here?  Any thoughts?
    Thanks!
    Nate

Repair permissions and restart your computer when done.

  • Hi there, i installed a system update earlier on my MacBookPro and now it wont connect to wi-fi, working through Network Diagnostics hasn't solved the issue.  all other devices here are connecting normally.  any ideas?

Hi, this has worked for a few...
Make a New Location, Using network locations in Mac OS X ...
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2712
    10.7 & 10.8…
System Preferences>Network, top of window>Locations>Edit Locations, little plus icon, give it a name.
    10.5.x/10.6.x/10.7.x instructions...
System Preferences>Network, click on the little gear at the bottom next to the + & - icons, (unlock lock first if locked), choose Set Service Order.
The interface that connects to the Internet should be dragged to the top of the list.
    10.4 instructions...
Is that Interface dragged to the top of Network>Show:>Network Port Configurations.
    If using Wifi/Airport...
Instead of joining your Network from the list, click the WiFi icon at the top, and click join other network. Fill in everything as needed.
For 10.5/10.6/10.7/10.8, System Preferences>Network, unlock the lock if need be, highlight the Interface you use to connect to Internet, click on the advanced button, click on the DNS tab, click on the little plus icon, then add these numbers...

    208.67.220.220
    Click OK.

  • Here are scripts for getting OAS302 working on RedHat 6.0

People have said this doesn't work. It works. It's just the
owsctl that doesn't work. I'm not saying that oas302 on RedHat 6
is the best solution anyone could come up with, but it does work,
and if you want to do it, here are some scripts that you can feel
free to modify and use as you wish. Various variables should be
updated with however you system is configured. Remember to start
the wrb (i.e. the second script) before you start any listeners.
Linux has a tendency to crash if you don't kill -KILL all the wrb
processes at the same time (i.e. the kernel gets an uncaught
    exception and dies).

    Hi Erick,
Your scripts for running the OAS302 on 6.0 linux had been very
    helpful.
In fact, I dont know what would I have done without them.
Now I am able to run the listeners and even able to create the
packages and users in the database via the OAS 3.0.2 but the
problem starts when accessing a procedure in the database using
the pl/sql agent. By the way i am using Oracle 8.0.5.1 RDBMS and
its home is different than the webserver home.
The browser just does nothing and even does not log any error
message ,I have to stop it after a while but all my other
    catridges are working.
    any insight will be appreciated.
    thanks,
Vikram ( Ironically enough I work for Oracle).

  • FINALLY - Boot Camp 2.1 Installed Successfully. Here are some stats....

Well, I believe I have finally successfully installed Boot Camp 2.1 for Windows Vista 32-bit on a MacBook Pro. After trying last Friday to install it, failing miserably, and a weekend spent reinstalling operating systems, etc. I feel a bit better. Although, these problems shouldn't have to happen to begin with, in my opinion.
I have learned to backup even more religiously than I have before -- you don't know how many restore points, complete PC backups, etc. I have done over the past few days.
Anyway, here are some stats that I would like to compare with other folks to make sure that I have everything that this update was supposed to offer. I wish Apple would provide the details about the update, but they don't. Here are my statistics, many probably Windows Vista 32-bit specific.
    _Miscellaneous Notes_
I have a MacBook Pro 2.2 GHz, 15", 4 GB RAM -- I bought it in June 2007 (I forget what the chipset is - Santa Rosa? - but it was a new model then)
    I have Vista Ultimate 32-bit
I had Vista SP1 installed before installing the BC 2.1 update
I did not have any other language packs installed
If I right click on the Boot Camp icon in the taskbar and say "About", the version I see is Version 2.1 (Build 210A12)
    Drivers
    Apple Built-In Bluetooth: 4/6/2008, version 2.1.0.1
    NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT: 1/24/2008, version 7.15.11.6763
Apple Keyboard: 3/10/2008, version 2.1.0.0 (I had two of these listed)
    Apple Trackpad: 8/28/2007, version 2.0.1.4
Apple IR Receiver: 11/1/2007, version 2.0.1.1
    Built-in iSight: 6/21/2006, version 6.0.6001.18000
Apple Trackpad Enabler: 8/28/2007, version 2.0.1.4
Atheros AR5008X Wireless Network Adapter: 4/15/2007, version 7.2.0.204 (there may be an update to this that I haven't installed yet)
Marvell Yukon 88E8058 PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet Controller: 3/23/2007, version 10.12.7.3 (there may be an update to this that I haven't installed yet)
Realtek High Definition Audio: 11/14/2007, version: 6.0.1.5512 (Note: This was disabled after the install of BC 2.1. I had to reenable it in the device manager. I think maybe my virus scanning program might have done something, but I am not sure)
Note: I had 3 monitors listed in my Device manager, but I only have two -- the laptop monitor and an external monitor connected to it. That is weird, I think.
    _Windows Experience Index_
    Processor: 5.1
    Memory (RAM): 4.8
Graphics: 5.9 (This might have went up with the new driver, I don't remember)
    Gaming Graphics: 5.4
    Primary Hard Disk: 4.6
Base Score: 4.6 (because of hard drive)
    _Final Words_
This wasn't a smooth update at all by any means.
I hope this helps a little. Please let me know if you have the same sort of statistics.
    Thanks.

In my quest to figure out why my keyboard backlighting is not working, I decided to extract the BC 2.1 installer using 7-zip to see all of the individual drivers separately. Now, I don't know which driver is for the keyboard backlight, but I did try to install the TrackPad separately, and guess what, the original installation did not update the trackpad driver for some reason.
So now the the stats for the Apple Trackpad are:
    10/9/2007, version 2.0.1.5
