Here is a movie i made with imovie

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kx3cbP8yPP0 Hope you like, please tell me your comments good and bad. Hope its ok to post this here.

You need to convert the VOB files in the TS-Folder of the DVD back to DV which iMovie is designed to handle. For that you need mpegStreamclip:
http://www.squared5.com/svideo/mpeg-streamclip-mac.html
which is free, but you must also have the  Apple mpeg2 plugin :
http://www.apple.com/quicktime/mpeg2/
(unless you are running Lion in which case see below))
which is a mere $20.
Another possibility is to use DVDxDV:
http://www.dvdxdv.com/NewFolderLookSite/Products/DVDxDV.overview.htm
which costs $25.
For the benefit of others who may read this thread:
Obviously the foregoing only applies to DVDs you have made yourself, or other home-made DVDs that have been given to you. It will NOT work on copy-protected commercial DVDs, which in any case would be illegal.
And from the TOU of these forums:
Keep within the Law
No material may be submitted that is intended to promote or commit an illegal act.
Do not submit software or descriptions of processes that break or otherwise ‘work around’ digital rights management software or hardware. This includes conversations about ‘ripping’ DVDs or working around FairPlay software used on the iTunes Store.
If you are running Lion:
From the MPEG Streamclip homepage
The installer of the MPEG-2 Playback Component may refuse to install the component in Lion. Apple states the component is unnecessary in Lion, however MPEG Streamclip still needs it.
To install the component in Lion, please download MPEG Streamclip 1.9.3b7 beta above; inside the disk image you will find the Utility MPEG2 Component Lion: use it to install the MPEG-2 Playback Component in Lion. The original installer's disk image (QuickTimeMPEG2.dmg) is required.
The current versions of MPEG Streamclip cannot take advantage of the built-in MPEG-2 functionality of Lion. For MPEG-2 files you still need to install the QuickTime MPEG-2 Playback Component, which is not preinstalled in Lion. You don't have to install QuickTime 7.

How do I change a music in a movie I have made with Imovie, (it is in Theater now)??

    Hello olemus,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
To add music to your iMovie project please follow the steps below.  Please note that you cannot do this in Theater, as you will need to be back in the Library portion of iMovie to do any editing.
    Add audio and music
    Take care,

  • .mov movie made with iMovie imported in iTunes

I made (with iMovie) a movie and imported in iTunes where it works perfectly. But when I go to advanced to use "convert selection for ipod" I can't. I have only the line convert to mp3.....
Any help? Maybe iTunes doesn't convert .mov files for iPod use?
    THANKS

probably yes, but I'm not able to open the .mov file in imovies. I made it when I had imovies 04 than after upgrading to imovies 06, all the files look like quicktime files and I can't open it in imovies 06.... So, now I have only the .mov file. It works in quicktime and iTunes but not anymore in iMovie. Any idea?
    Thanks in advance!

  • Does anyone know what "video rendering error: -50" means?   I am trying to back up a movie i made on iMovie and get that message every time, about 30 times...

Does anyone know what "video rendering error: -50" means?   I am trying to back up a movie i made on iMovie and get that message every time, about 30 times...   OSX10.9.2, iMovie 10.0.3, Toshiba externals 2TB etc

    Hi Babowa and Apple:
Thanks for helping me.   Here is my workflow:
I store any file that I save onto my external drives so that I don't fill up my main hard drive.....( I label each external hard drive by year + alpha, such as 14a, 14b etc.)  Is that a problem?   Any suggestions?
I know iMovie works from the main iMac HD and therefore needs to find the file that I want in the external drive, such as when I "import" a file from an external such as 14a into iMovie that has been previously downloaded onto the external 14a (I download all SD cards & tapes to externals)......and it sounds like you're saying that is causing iMovie problems because the file is not so easily accessible for iMovie?
I assume that iMovie processes the file that I have "imported" into an "iMovie Event" on my iMac HD.  I label that version as say "NLGE 3000E" for my 3000th movie, Event version, "events" that is always rough.
After I have imported media as an event and have labeled an event, "NLGE 3000E,"  then I go to "new movie" that I assume is a "project".....and I label that version "NLGE 3000P1"...."P" for "project" and "1" for the first edition....also to help me keep track of where my movies go.   I focus on "Projects" then when editing ...and watch which edition I am editing and which edition appears where.
I learned that I need to "share" all movies from "Projects" to save......and store my final versions on my external drive, 14a (eg) so that I am sure that I have a retrievable copy.   I try to share to YouTube from iMovie and succeeded 1/10 tries.
Evidently a movie is not saved unless it is in "theater"?
Please see next "reply" for other comments about retrieval.
    Thanks.

  • Trying to import a .mov file made with gotomeeting - no problems in past yet says No importable files -None of the selected files or folders can be imported. Change the selection and try again.  re-recorded 3 times and still not accepting HELP

Trying to import a .mov file made with gotomeeting - no problems in past doing this. After 3 attempts recording the hour long video and trying to upload it to iMovie, it says No importable files -None of the selected files or folders can be imported. Change the selection and try again. What could the reason be?

After much research and troubleshooting, GoToMeeting replied with the final answer: We do not support the uploading of recordings to editing software. If you are having issues uploading a recording, unfortunately, we do not have tools or steps to resolve this. It is not a supported feature. I am sorry for any inconvenience this may have caused you.
The no longer plan to support editing of recordings made with their software.  So, we are planning to find a new meeting provider.

  • Move made with iMove can't be imported in another iMove-Film

    Hi,
I tried to import a movie (that I made completely with iMovie) in another movie in iMove. But importing I got that error message:
The Clip /../../.dv can’t be imported; QuickTime couldn’t parse it: -43
    What does that mean?
      Mac OS X (10.4.7)

then what should I do now? Import the "Timeline
    Movie.mov" myself?
Yes, that's one option. That will deliver all the Timeline video and audio to the new project as a single clip.
Another option, depending on what it contains, is to import the files in the Media folder to a new project.
Both imports can be accomplished by simply dragging the desired file to the Timeline of a new project.
If all you want is a copy of the original project, it may be best to use the Finder to create a duplicate project, or use iMovie's Save As commend. Then all your clips are retained as the clips they currently are. Open the new project and discard those clips you don't want.
Or you can simply Copy the clips from the Timeline of Project A and Paste them into Project B.

  • I am trying to burn a movie I made in iMovie to a dvd that can be played on a dvd and not just the computer

I have burned a movie made in iMovie on a DVD but cannot play it on the dvd for my tv it keeps ejecting the disc....please help.

Not all DVD players, particularly older ones, accept some home-made DVDs. Have you tried with different DVDs?
Could be poor media: most of us here recommend Verbatim DVD-R, burned at only 2x or 4x.
If you successfully burned the DVD with iDVD and it plays on your Mac, it is unlikely you did something wrong, but full instructions are here:
A good guide to iDVD 7 can be found here:

  • Coolest movie you made in iMovie?

Evening all - I've just got in to using iMovie and wondered what cool videos you've all made in iMovie (and what tricks you used to make them)?

  • Certain Movies not compatible with iMovie.

I've tried everything with iMovie, and there's nothing wrong with that-in fact, it seems to be a problem with certain movies. And there doesn't seem to be any pattern.
I can use a movie that I've taken from the beginning of a roll, and not use one near the end, however, all of my movies in my iPhoto library can be seen in quicktime.
I can import some movies into iMovie, just not all of them.
I'm rebuilding my thumbnail cache right now. Doesn't seem to be working.

    MilaUno:
Maybe you should post your question in the iMovie forum where you're more likely to get a potential solution.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • Cannot Import Video made with iMovie for iPhone/iPod Touch

I edited a video on my iPod touch using Apple's iMovie. The resulting .MOV file that iMovie creates will not import into iPhoto '11. While iMovie recognises the file just fine, iPhoto believes it is an unsupported file type. It's a .MOV for goodness sakes created with Apple's own hardware and program! Very strange. Just wondering if anyone else has had a similar experience.

Hey there. In answer to your question, all other clips that appear in my camera roll are easily seen by iPhoto. It is only those movies that I have created with iMovie for iPhone that iPhoto does not recognize. It's really strange, considering the fact that it's just a .MOV file. As a result, I've had to download a program called 'DiskAid' that allows me to transfer the .MOV file directly to my computer from the iPod Touch.
In answer to your question regarding whether or not iMovie for iPhone was worth downloading, I would have to say yes (assuming of course the import-to-iPhoto problem gets fixed). It's not a perfect program. My biggest complaint is that you have to import clips ONE at a time. There's no 'import all' option. This is really time consuming as you have to cycle through all the videos on your iPod or iPhone and manually tap each one and repeat. My dad likes to take a lot of 1-minute videos that then have to get spliced together and that can be really tedious with how this iMovie is currently set up. However, if you regularly think to add your clips to an existing project as you go along, things should be fine. It could do with a few more features and faster rendering times, but on the whole, it's a decent program. I have a feeling, though, that it was designed more for the YouTube generation who want to upload a five-minute video instead of people like my father and I who like to edit an hour or so and then eventually burn to a DVD. iMovie for the Mac still CERTAINLY has it's place.

  • Import movie files made with (pro)consumer camera

As expected there is no way to import and manage those little movies (.mov or .avi) made with a (pro)consumer camera.
For example when you are on holiday and shoot a little movie between making your photos.
Now I use Foto Album Pro to manage 15.000 pics AND movies AND panorama's (bigger then 10.000 pixels) and they support movies and I can see a (selected) thumbnail of the movie so I see that thumbnail (with data and keywords) between all my photos. Perfect!!!
    But.....
Now I am going to switch to LR (because of the editing capabilities and other modules) and beside that I CAN'T import my +/- 300 panoramas and also CAN'T import (just for managing not anything else) my avi's and mov's. Uffffffff.
    But I keep smiling:-)

LR is perfect for me:-).. I mean in 2007 and later:-)..but in the early days I made photos with Powershot G5 and took movies as well..since 2005 I have a Canon EOS350D and good (L) glass.
I just want all my "image based media files" to be managed in one library, in one program. Not more...shouldn't be so difficult?
FotoAlbum Pro is better in managing then LR at this moment and I use it in combination with PSE 3.0. I switch to LR because of the "batch/actions" possibilities in LR wich I dont have in PSE. So i wished LR is the only thing I will need to manage and edit my image based files.

  • QT for Win can't open .mov made with iMovie

    Hello
    Is it possible?
Joking around I created a clip with the built in iSight camera in iMovie, clicked share, email and of my two windows recipients one could hear not see, the other, nothing.
Tried saving the clip as quicktime movie seperately sent it via mail and still nothing. The one recipient said she had checked for the latest Quicktime and was current (free version) the other, my brother, wouldn't be bothered checking. I saved one of the clips to a dvd not using iDVD and a QT icon was there but only the sound would come through the DVD player.
Is it even possible? I'm wondering whether to give up on interacting with windows friends with the iMac, I love the iMac (my first) but I do have a windows machine I can go back to (hoping NOT to go back but......).
I know from experience chatting with them (Windows users) is near impossible so wondering if I should give up on this part of sharing as well.
    Paul.
    iMac 20 Core 2 Duo 2.16 2 gb ram   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

    Paul,
Try MpegStreamclip (versions available for Mac and PC).
    http://www.squared5.com/svideo/mpeg-streamclip-mac.html
    http://www.squared5.com/svideo/mpeg-streamclip-win.html
1.) You can convert your xx.mov to xx.mpg1, that should be playable on both platforms (Mac/PC).
    OR
Since MPEG Streamclip can save MOV files as AVI, you can import the AVI (Large file size) into "Windows Movie Maker" and export as WMV (small file size, Microsoft's version of mp4) for your PC family and friends to view.
Note: I believe you mentioned you had a PC, "Windows Movie Maker" is a free video editing program that's included with Windows ME & XP installations.

  • How do I get a DVD made with imovie by someone else imported into my imovie

A friend from out of town recorded a 2 hour video of my band performing. He imported the video from his camcorder into imovie on his mac and burned it into a DVD and destroyed the original files. I have the DVD and would like to import into my mac into imovie to create some individual song video files for our website. I don't plan on doing this frequently and I need software with a simple interface that is easy to understand. I have no problem purchasing software (but I'd take freeware if it were available) to easily rip the DVD into the best format to work with in imovie. I have imovie '08 but would use another software if it was easier or better. I don't want expensive or pro editions since this is likely the only time I'll do this. any suggestions?

You will need third party software such as Handbrake, Ripit; these you have to purchase.
    MPEG streamclip is free: http://www.squared5.com/
but you probably also need Apple's QuickTime component ($20): http://www.apple.com/quicktime/mpeg2/
With thanks to AppleMan, here are his instructions for doing this from a DVD to iMovie 8:
+I have found I get the best results when I use MPEG Streamclip (which is free). You also have to install the Apple QuickTime MPEG2 Playback Component which costs about $20. Once you install the QuickTime MPEG2 Playback Component, you don't have to interact with it, but MPEG Streamclip needs it.+
+Insert your DVD in your drive. If DVD player runs automatically, shut it down. You should see your DVD as an icon on the desktop. Open it is a finder winder. You should see a folder which has VOB files.+
+Open MPEG Streamclip and drag these VOB files into Streamclip. If it offers to fix timecode breaks, say yes. You can do the VOB files one by one if you want to deal with shorter clips. Or, you can drag all the VOB files at once and create one long clip, or use streamclip to separate them into smaller clips.+
+In Streamclip, select File/Export using Quicktime and choose Apple Intermediate Codec. You may want to check "Deinterlace" in this step. Try deinterlacing and see if you like it. It depends on your final target media as to whether this will help.+
+Now you should have MOV files in Apple Intermediate Codec which can be imported into iMovie+
Post back if this does not help. You do know that decompressing footage from a DVD causes some quality loss? But, better to have the footage with some loss than not to have it at all!
