  • What would you do with this credit profile? I need your expertise.

    Hello MyFico Community,
I am trying to build a decent credit profile. Is there anything I should be doing or not doing to improve my Credit Profile? Currently I have one foot in the Garden-LOL!For the last coupe monthsI have been receiving a lot of mailers, Citi, BoA, US Bank, AARP and a few others, so its  sort of tempting.  My Fico Scores are:
760, 755 & 756. These scores are from my Discover, CapOne and Barclay statements. Goals scores are 800 across the board.   Reports:

Was also thinking i’d put everything I can on cards and PIF each month to take advantage of the 0% and rewards.
Is this a good plan? I'm still learning how to best utilize my portfolio. Are there other cards I should look at acquiring?  I appreciate any input.

What I'd do doesn't really matter.  These are not one-size-fits-all matters so each needs to determine his/her own strategy and tactics based on the individual's situation, goals, priorities, preferences, etc.  IMO you don't know what to do because you're not clear on these matters.  Very True, I am not clear but with the help of the community giving me things to consider I am getting there.
You need to define what you needs/want and then prioritize that list.  That will give you a list of critiera that you then use to select cards that suit you. Thanks. Good way to focus my thinking about it.
Rewards is a common criteria and if rewards matter to you then you need to look at your spend and where your money is going to select rewards with the most benefit to you. Since i’m going to be using a main CC, I’d rather have cash rewards first or rewards that are versatile for gift cards. I already have a travel card that works well for me so thats not that important.

AAof Credit:  Not sure about this Experian/Credit.com- 6.7 years. Credit Sesame says 1.8 months?  Thanks. Was wondering where they figured this. AAoA is just an average like any other average.  Add up the ages of the accounts and divide by the number of accounts.  Many find it easier to convert into months, calculate and then convert back into years.  You can use Excel and its date formulas if you don't want to do this manually.  There are also online AAoA calculators.  Experian is more likely to be correct.  CS is probably providing AAoOA.

Is this a good plan? You're really not leveraging a 0% offer if you're PIF'ing each month.  However, if you're not PIF'ing each month on cards without 0% offers then you're killing rewards.Okay this is confusing, would you mind clarifying? The Amex and QS have 0% interest for well into next year (not sure of exact date, I will look up again) so it would seem that it would not matter if i carry balance or pay in full until the real APR begins next year.
So whats the best way to utilize these as my main cards to get as much cash back(QS) and MR point as possible. Carry balance or pif, or does it not matter in this case for now?

Are there other cards I should look at acquiring?  As with all other request you need to tell us what you need/want so we have something to use to narrow down the options for you.
Now, I am leaning towards low interest being the most important to me, secondly would be cash back.
    RandomSpirit wrote:
Was thinking about BoA Cash Rewards offer for 12.99 because of the lower interest rateHere's an example of why a prioritized list of criteria matters.  If the lowest possible interest is a priority above all else then you shouldn't be looking at rewards cards as they typically come with higher interest rates.  If you want the lowest possible APR you need to fins a barebones card.  They're offered with rates as low as 6.x% depending on what you qualify for. This is most important to me
That said, rewards and a low APR aren't mutually exclusive but typically rewards cards will come with a higher APR as you aren't getting something for nothing.  While I do try to get my APR's as low as possible you might want to consider why APR is a concern if you're paying in full. In case I ever have to carry a real balance. Not telling you what to do here but consdier such things when prioritizing your list.  For example: is a lower APR more important than the biggest rewards for your spend?

    Citi Dble Cash and, perhaps
    Chase Freedom for sign-up bonus?
Honestly, I was thinking  to have a more diversified portfolio. I don;t have any Chase or City cards. So far we have:
    • 1 Low APR
    • 2-High rewards rate on non-category spend (Double Cash)
    • 4-Sign up bonus
    • 3-Diversity
Which is most important?  Which is least?  Where do the rest fall?  We can't tell you this.  You need to tell us.
Again, I'd recommend looking at your spend and ensuring that your card lineup maxmizes rewards on your spend.  The Double Cash is a good option for non category spend but if you haven't found higher rewards for a major spend category that you have then you might want to look into finding something for that category. Thanks for taking the time to offer your suggestions Tekeshi74. If gives me a lot consider.

Apple Updates: This is just to report a problem. I updated recently and on restart the computer restored up my 2012 desktop with all my 2014 files and data including stickies missing!!! Now I hesitate to do another Apple update. What would you do?

If all your files are missing
You may have logged in as a different user, such as Guest. Open the Users & Groups pane in System Preferences. Your name should be at the top of the user list, under Current User. See also this support article.
If files are missing from one folder
Change the Finder view mode; for example, from icon view to list view, or vice versa.
If files are present, but seem outdated
You may have started up from a different volume (disk.) Open the Startup Disk preference pane and check the selection.

  • What would you do with Intel iMacs with WM97/Thus-T in Word ?

In a school in Marin County there are 20 Intel iMacs running 10.4.11 (512 MB RAM) all networked and running fine.  Several students reported a Macro warning notice when launching a Word (Mac 2004 Student edition) document (.doc).    Have looked over the current available anti-viral programs running under 10.4.11 and submitted several files to three different websites which analyze the file against 20 or more virus detectors.  Most sites and local apps found the WM97/Thus-T virus in all the offending files.   The only free application which cured the files, rather than quarantining them or deleting them, and ran with 10.4.11 was Sophos.   Sampled only one of the iMacs with a full Sophos scan of the User folder, and it found 47  "WM97/Thus-T" infected files, and cured all of them.  Repeat scan of Home folder ----> no threats found.   Some of these infected Word files go back three years, and the machines are running fine.
The students are not supposed to bring files from home, nor are they supposed to take files home.  There are a few PC towers and PC laptops on site, all with anti-viral software. The students do not currently e-mail this files nor receive e-mailed files.  For fun, I tried e-mailing one of the infected files to myself, and aol and gmail both blocked the transmission.
QUESTION:   What would you now do ?  It doesn't seem this WM97/Thus-T is a threat to Macs.  Would you feel compelled or it's mandatory to run Sophos on all the Macs on site ?
What about liability ?   If one of these infected Word files found its way on a Windows PC would the school be liable ?   What is the worst case scenario of this virus on the Mac platform ?    On the Windows platform ?

Thank you for your time and help.

No viruses that can attack OS X have so far been detected 'in the wild', i.e. in anything other than laboratory conditions.
It is possible, however, to pass on a Windows virus to another Windows user, for example through an email attachment. To prevent this all you need is the free anti-virus utility ClamXav, which you can download from:
    For Tiger:  http://www.clamxav.com/download.php#tiger
and for Leopard, Snow Leopard and Lion from here:  http://www.clamxav.com/

  • What would you replace an ATI Radeon 9800 Pro (256MB) with?

    Hi,
I started a thread before asking whether I could replace a 256MB card with a 128MB card, even though the interface was a different shape.
But, as I know so little about Macs and graphics card, it seems wiser to ask
What would you replace an ATI Radeon 9800 Pro (256MB) with?
The computer is user for photo editing and normal internet/email use.  The photo editing is done on Adobe Photoshop for professional treatment of photographs.
    The computer is a Power Mac G5 (1.6GHz) and budge is £80 / $120.
    Thanks in advance, Franc.

    Hi-
Please check my recommendations in your other thread.
Better options for the 9800 Pro are the Radeon 9800 XT, Geforce 6800 GT, Geforce 6800 Ultra, or if one has the money or finds a good deal, a Radeon X800 XT.
For your budget and uses, the Geforce cards are a performance value buy.
BTW, I have owned all of the cards, used all of the cards, and tested all of the cards.
    Graphics Cards- ATI and Nvidia

Okay everybody...so I'm on the struggle bus so I'm going from Photoshop cs6 off my old broken laptop to trying to dwn Photoshop Cs2...either way I love PS. Now when I tried downloading it for free from Adobe...succeeded...but when I went to the download folder to install it, it said "Do you want to allow the following program from an unknown publisher to make changes to this computer?" I mean....what would you do? Is it safe to click yes....(Don Don Don...*sound effect*)..please help...

If you already have a license for photoshop cs6, why do you want photoshop cs2?
You can just install photoshop cs6 on your new computer provided both operating systems are the same kind (both mac or both windows)
If you don't have an install dvd for cs6, you can download photoshop cs6 from here and use your serial:

  • What would you advise....

Upgrade time is here and I have been lurking on this forum watching for issues etc with the N97
Firstly, would you advise against me getting the phone? If so, what would you advise I replace my N95 8gb with?
Secondly, assuming the geek in me wins the argument and I get the N97, I was thinking the first thing to do would be a hard reset to get rid of the unwanted software and then an upgrade to the V11 firmware. Is this correct?
    Cheers in advance
    PP

There is a lot of confusion about this unwanted software issue on the N97. There is essentially 3 types of storage on the device:
The most obvious is the 32Gig of flash.. this is treated a bit like a USB disk.. Nokia don't put much on there and in some cases installing certain applications to this drive is not possbile. Further to this, when you use the phone in USB storage mode, the "drive" is disconnected from the phone and attached to the PC.. this means the phone has to close any applications that are running on the "e:" and looses its ability to read/write from there. This is a serious problem if you store your message repository on the e: as the phone will revert back to C: and you *may* loose all your messages
Then there is the z:. This is the ROM. and it is just that.. read-only.. If an application is installed there, you won't be able to remove it.. this goes for Quick Office and that boingo thing.. both are terrible apps.. You won't gain anything by removing them BUT there's the problem.. The boingo app is running all the time using RAM in the phone.. Since you can't disable it, it uses RAM rather than storage..
Lastly there's the c:.. this is flash that is always available to the phone. It is where your contacts, message, config, internet/browser cache and most things are stored by default. A bit like c:\windows on a PC.. So, Nokia in their infinite wisdom made it 70meg or so.. Brilliant.. I cannot stress how mind-blowing stupid that decision is and how it continues to ruin everyone's lives.
Many applications are installed on the c: by default. Why? because the 32Gig e: is not always available (see above about USB storage mode). When I transfered all my messages from my previous handset (using the sync thing) I was left with less than 5meg free..
This problem is NEVER going to be fixed.. there simply isn't enough storage on the phone to do this..
This is not the same as the low RAM problem.. the fact that, for example, you receive a text message or email with a hyper-link. you click open.. the web browser opens.. the phone runs out of memory and closes the messages app.. so now when you close the browser, the message app is also closed.. **bleep**?!?!?!?!?!?!
Nokia never fix their products.. ever.. anyone who claims they do is lying! Ok, that's harsh.. but..
In my experience (and I've owned many first gen Nokia products (7110, 7650, 770, 7710, 5800, N97) when Nokia sell a broken product, particularly if it is broken by design, they may release firmware fixes that update SOME stuff.. but they'll never fix most of them.. Instead they'll wait a few months and release a new product that doesn't suffer the same problems..
You'd think the N97 was fixing the problems with the 5800.. but the N97 is a very different beast.. It runs a different not entirely compatible version of S60.. They must know it was flawed from the start, though.. they introduced a Low memory set of features into S60 especially for N97.. Riiiight, Nokia.. you spent time and effort developing a way to handle low memory that actually isn't that good rather than just doubling the RAM in the phone.. how much is a 1Gig dimm these days?
This phone is terribly beta.. Even after v11 has been released it has a truely inconsistent look and feel.. You could get an N97, or you could wait for this fabled n97-mini there's recently been talk of.. or you could opt for a vendor that is trying to compete with Nokia in the smart phone market and so is actually making an effort to produce a phone that doesn't make their quality-assurance department look like kinder-garten nap time..
I've been disappointed with Nokia products before.. but NEVER so much as with the N97.. And in todays market are you going to pick a poor product in the hope that software may fix it later (bearing in mind it took over 3 weeks for Nokia to release the v11 firmware to all the phone versions.. that's right there are 100s of different versions of the N97) or are you going to opt for something the industry already accepts as a stable handset..
It's a shame.. I want to love it.. I've loved Symbian since its EPOC days.. but this phone is terrible in every aspect..
Quick office and Boingo.. that's a bit like bundling AOL and compuserv CD's with windows 95.. It feels that old!

Question:  Do I need to run and anti virus program with MAC OSX Lion? Have heard different opinions! If so what would you recommend? Was looking at Sophos. Does anyone have any experience with this? Thanks

Do I need to run and anti virus program with MAC OSX Lion? Have heard different opinions!
You will continue to hear different opinions here, where thoughts range everywhere between "anti-virus software is the evil spawn of Satan" to "anyone not running anti-virus software is a fool."
Truth is, this is still a very personal decision on a Mac. Depending on circumstances, it is still very easily possible to stay safe without using anti-virus software, but circumstances and personal preferences vary widely. Besides which, anti-virus software cannot even remotely provide you a guarantee of protection!
To learn how to stay safe (with or without anti-virus software), and how to decide whether to use anti-virus software, see my Mac Malware Guide.

  • Random kernel panics on iPhone 4 GSM: what would you do?

    Hello all,
I'm posting here in hopes that someone could help shed some light on the matter before I give up and send my phone in for repair, provided it will be repaired/replaced given how random this issue is.
I've had an iPhone 4 since November 2010, a GSM unit as I'm in Europe. Jailbroke it on a dull day just to see if I'd have any use for that, restored it to stock firmware (using the backup I had created before applying the jb) about 24 hours later. No trace of jb on it at all nowadays, basically. The phone and the system are as vanilla as they can be. The only customization, so to speak, is the provisioning profiles in my name as I'm an iOS developer.
Ever since March, the phone will sometimes randomly reboot. There is no pattern whatsoever: I may be fiddling with it, I may be keeping it in my pocket, it may be charging, it may be placidly sitting on a table undisturbed. Out of the blue, the Apple logo will show up and the thing will reboot, and won't ask for the PIN either. I hadn't thought much of it as it was very rare, but lately it's become more apparent and I decided to look for some logs.
To my horror, I found that ~/Library/Logs/CrashReporter/MobileDevice/Jolliphone/Panics on my Mac was way overpopulated. The weirdest thing is that all the logs look virtually the same, although they all end abruptly in different points (which suggests that they were so brutal that there was no "time" to write the whole thing down.)
    Here is an example:

    panic(cpu 0 caller 0x8007f3e5): "buf_brelse: bad buffer = 0xd070aa98\n"@/SourceCache/xnu/xnu-1735.46/bsd/vfs/vfs_bio.c:2348
    panic(cpu 0 caller 0x8007f3e5): "buf_brelse: bad buffer = 0xd06fdf88\n"@/SourceCache/xnu/xnu-1735.46/bsd/vfs/vfs_bio.c:2348
…and so on. The caller is always 0x8007f3e5, and the buffer location is always in 0x0d6…–0x0d7… range. This is what leads me to think that it may be some memory problem.
As I said there is absolutely no pattern in this. Sometimes it will stay a month without panicking – after a few panics on April 1st, it happened again on May 2nd – yet in other occasions it will panic 4 times within 8 minutes as it happened yesterday morning.
Lately it's been happening more often when I charge it using the wall adapter, but then again it's fairly inconsistent: I have kept it connected since last evening on purpose, and it hasn't panicked once.
I have tried restoring it as a new phone, just to make sure that it wasn't a software problem, and the very same thing happened as soon as I connected to my father's iPad 2 adapter.
If you have read so far, I want to thank you very much for your patience. I'll get to the point: what should I do?
I spent 35 minutes on the phone with AppleCare this morning and was about to give the green light to have it picked up, but the woman told me that I couldn't provide the logs to tech support, and that they'd run some tests on their own and, if they could reproduce the problem, I would get a refurbished phone in place of this one, otherwise they'd send the same unit back. Considering that it's impossible to reproduce it on purpose, I'm afraid that I will just end up being phoneless for two weeks (with the added issue of finding a way to stick this micro-sim into a phone that takes regular-sized sims), and ultimately be sent back the faulty phone.
I told the woman I'd consider going to the Apple Store in Rome, so I could at least speak with a human person and expose the problem in more detail. I do have a repair ID and apparently I can just book a slot at the genius bar and have them access the repair ID data.
The problem is that I live 200 km from Rome, and it would take the better part of a day and it would be more money spent on this issue to get there and back. And I wouldn't even be certain that they'd replace it: even if they agree to replace it, what if they're out of stock on 32 GB units, for instance?
So here is the dilemma: I have a phone that feels very unstable given the 18 (eighteen) panics I've had in the last three days, and I'm facing either wasting time and money to go to an Apple Store, or being without the phone for the better part of two weeks, again without any certainty.
Going to my carrier (Vodafone) is pointless: they referred me to Apple; at most they will ship it for me, but at that point I'd rather do it myself.
As for the local Apple Premium Reseller, they are an authorized support center for Macs, but they don't offer any support for iPhones at all.
    What would you do?
    Thanks.

Not saying you are complaining, I know it isn't what one likes, but just the way it is and quite normal.
You can buy a used one from somewhere and just continue on your same contract (if same type of phone, eg: You didn't have original one before and go buy a used 3G now..then you need to change plans). But if you had 3G before and buy a used 3G now, you can activate it and your contract shouldn't restart.
A used one you buy shouldn't have a SIM card in it but even if it does, you don't want to use it. You need to go to AT&T store and request a new SIM. They will give you one set for your account and you just go home and activate using same account (thus no contract changing). If you try to use another SIM without getting one from AT&T it could mess with your contract so best to deal with them first to get one coded for you. There is nothing wrong with buying a used iPhone and saying you want to put it on your existing account. You can do that with any phone. You already have the data plan etc required so they don't care.
That was useful info, and I'm not complaining (well, I am, but it does no good, so it's a rhetorical complaint)...
What I'm really looking for is opinions about what would be the most sensible/cost effective way to go right now, given the available options.
    Thanks,
    Lorraine

  • WHATS WOULD YOU SUGGEST ME

I installed the update Mavericks operating system and after that I lost iphoto and imovie. Because an application that I had already gone and is being charged in the App Store. this is absurd. I can not pay for a program that already had! What would you suggest me!

This screenshot shows which previous versions of iPhoto are compatible with Mavericks.  It also indicates which versions qualify for a free upgrade to iPhoto 9.5.1 and which require a purchase:
Note 1:  every day more users are reporting problems with iPhoto 8.1.2 so I've included it in the non compatible category.
Note 2:  If your previous version of iPhoto was iPhoto 7 (08) or earlier you'll need to download and run the iPhoto Library Upgrader 1.1  application on the library before opening it with iPhoto 9.5.1.

  • What Would you like to see changed in FC?

    Hello everybody,
just  a little introduction, as announced flash catalyst would solve the  problem of many designers to publish their work without one line of  code, well, here begins a death foretold. At  some point things to go well but then the problems begin a dependence  to have a programmer on the left arm in addition to the program is  rather limited. Flash is already incorporating the AS3 language, now wonder why launch a program with a new language, rather confusing, no? as  a designer I do not want to worry about programming, but concentrate on  the aesthetic aspect of my layout, which is why I found interesting the  coming of the catalyst. it was all a lie, or say one more death will be announced shortly birth. but we believe that all this will change and enable designers to express their skills as designers and media .... without a single line of code. otherwise the flash is fine and the catalyst becomes an obsolete program. finally,  each monkey on its branch and rethink that, besides confusing the  catalyst does not become functional in the optical designer.
What would you like to see changed in Catalyst?
    - Most states
    - can apply Form Email etc
    - better handling of text
    - No dependence with programmers, or if it is not possible to incorporate code changes in the proper catalyst
more there, and hopefully remember me
I  want to thank The Adobe team that created the opportunity to open new  horizons to the class of designers, I still think that the catalyst has  great potential ,.... but not the way it is.
    Thank you for your attention
and say what they liked to see
    cheers
    Mike

Well the forms for sure. At least an email form. This really just needs to be there. Ultimatley I think there just needs to be some training right now if they want this product to get used the way they intended. I am sure I will have a ton more to add to this list as I dig deeper into my first live job using it.
Not sure on the AS3 thing, it has been out since 2006, although I may have just misread what you were saying.
A way to change the loading bar would definitly be nice now that I am thinking about it.

  • Photo/Video editing PC build; what would you change and why?

I'm in the planning phase of my first photo/video editing PC build.  I've done quite a bit of research to this point, and I've finally come to a decision on all of the components (I think).  After seeing how helpful everyone is on this forum, I decided to post my plan and see what everyone thinks.
Miscellaneous info:  I am an amateur photographer looking to expand my horizons and venture into the video realm.  I will be running Windows 7 64bit with Adobe CS5 Production Premium and Lightroom 3 on a singe solid state drive and everything else will be on a 3 drive RAID 0 config.  Eventually I plan on purchasing a RAID card and a few more drives for a RAID 3 (or 5) config, but that won't be for a while.
    Ok, here's my planned build...

    Monitor
NEC   MultiSync PA271W-BK-SV 27" Widescreen LCD Monitor with SpectraViewII   Color Calibration Solution
So, what would you change and why?
I'm looking forward to your responses!

"I'll take your advice and go with Samsung F3s.  With the money I save  (by not getting the WD Caviar Blacks), I'll add a 4th drive and use the  RAID5 on the mobo until I can afford to upgrade to a proper RAID  controller."
I might be a bit late, but wanted to let you know about motherboard software RAID configs (at least mine):
I have an older system running an ASUS P5AD2-E Premium MB containing a Silicon Image 3114 RAID chip. I originally configured a RAID 10 array with four 74 G Raptors for speed and redundancy. Figured if I lost a disc, I could just rebuid the array. Come to find out, the Sil 3114 chip does not support rebuilding the RAID 10 array.
I had lost a disc (disc was okay, just power to the disc was interupted) so was running on three. Fixed my power problem, went to rebuild the array and couldn't. So I figured what is the point of having a RAID 10 that I couldn't rebuild. Went to a RAID 0 with a backup disk.
Never checked the documentation to see if software RAID 5 through the SIl 3114 was rebuildable.
Mind you, I am not a computer guru nor all knowledgable about software/harware based RAID configs. But after talking to others who are the guru's, I found that I should stay away from the motherboard software RAID arrays and they mirror what Harm said about hardware RAID boards. But on a budget, the RAID 0 with a backup drive works for me.
Just my 2 cents to help.
    Tony

  • HT4061 I lost my iPad and am concerned about privacy.  What would you do if you lost your iPad to ensure privacy?

I lost my iPad and feel exposed.  What would you do if you lost your iPad?  It wasn't locked.

  • What would you have?

I have the opportunity to get another Apple Mac Pro "Quad Core" 2.66 2gb memory. I have to replace it with something else though. Its my moms and she was doing some video editing a while back on it but has quit since then.
I figured it would be great to have another Mac Pro so I planned on getting her a new Mac Mini. What would you rather have? A new Mac Mini or Apple Mac Pro "Quad Core" 2.66 that was introduced sometime in 06 or 07?

What would you rather have? A new Mac Mini or Apple Mac Pro "Quad Core" 2.66 that was introduced sometime in 06 or 07?
Other factors such as space availability and usage aside and considering only performance, I'd take the Mac Pro, no question. It'll run circles around any Mac mini and never break a sweat. For many people, though, that extra power isn't needed but the compact size of the Mac mini would be an advantage. For use as a media device, for instance, the power of a Mac Pro would be largely wasted and it's size a serious disadvantage.
So which to choose would depend on many factors which you haven't enumerated here.
    Regards.

The first step in Upgrading... is to Snow Leopard = OS X 10.6.x
It is Not available as a download... It is a Paid Upgrade.
    Do this first...
Check that your Mac meets the System Requirements for Snow Leopard...
