Here's how to make it work

Question

Over the last couple of weeks we've had all sorts of problems to get WLCS to
work. We've finally been able to get it working OUT OF THE BOX (OOB) using
the steps below. These steps apply to Win NT SP6a, JDK 1.2.2.
On WIN 2K the WLCS installer wont work and there is a workaround....but I'll
leave that out for now.
So, Here are the OOB steps:
1) Uninstall the 3.1.1 Docs
2) Uninstall WLCS 3.1.1
3) Uninstall WLS 5.10
4) Install jdk1.2.2
5) Remove the weblogic & weblogiccommerce directories
6) Download new weblogic server from BEA site (the old one will not work
anymore as the Cloudscape License expired on Oct 1)
7) Install new Weblogic Server
8) Install Service Pack 6 in THE FOLLOWING MANNER DO NOT READ INSTRUCTIONS
a. Extract SP6 in new directory
b. copy <SP6>\weblogic510sp6.jar & weblogic510sp6.jar to <WEBLOGIC>\lib
c. copy <SP6>\lib\weblogic-tags-510.jar to <WEBLOGIC>\lib
d. copy <SP6>\lib\persistence\weblogic_RDBMS.jar to
<WEBLOGIC>\persistence
e. copy <SP6>\bin\oci815_8\weblogicoci36.dll to <WEBLOGIC>\bin\oci815_8
(used for oracle)
f. open command console to set environment:
i. Change directory to <WEBLOGIC>\bin
ii. wlconfig -JAVA_HOME c:\jdk1.2.2
iii. wlconfig -classpath c:\weblogic\myserver\serverclasses;
c:\weblogic\lib\weblogic510sp6boo.jar
iv.
wlconfig -Dweblogic.class.path=c:\weblogic\lib\weblogic510sp6.jar;
c:\weblogic\license;c:\weblogic\classes;
c:\weblogic\myserver\serverclasses;
c:\weblogic\lib\weblogicaux.jar
9) Install the commerce server
10) start commerce server
Now, the example portal should work.

WLCS should work fine out of the box. I have installed it many times myself
without any problems.
There was an issue with the WLS cloudscape license expiring if you had
installed WLS5.10 a
while back. The solution for this was to reinstall WLS, and apply SP6
(following the instructions)
