Here's my Motivation: WWT - World Wide Telescope

Greetings All,
My first post so be kind. Motivated by WWT but it's currently offered for Windows XP or Vista machines only. I had the thought of installing Windows XP SP2 on my external WD 500GB HD using my iMac 24" 1GB, 2,4Ghz intel desktop model. I'd love to be able to, at start up, select which HD and respective OS, but desired to know if this was "smart" and the best option. Did I mention I LOVE My MAC? Completely?!!! Just a little concerned about the "Step by step for the how to install Windows etc. "If it ain't broke, don't fix it" floods my mind and with my Mac I'm completely fine. But basically, I don't want to screw this up. What's the best approach?
P.S. If there's a MAC version of WWT coming soon then disregard; with the release date if possible. Thanks in advance.

Hi and welcome to Discussions,
first: since WWT is from Microsoft one never knows if they will make a Mac version of it.
Sometimes these guys can surprise one.
Your only chance of running Windows XP or Vista on your Mac is the usage of BootCamp http://www.apple.com/support/bootcamp/ since WWT needs a dedicated graphics card which is not offered by the Virtualization apps Parallels, VMWare Fusion or VirtualBox.
Personally I found the usage of BootCamp to install Windows quite safe and straightforward.
However, 'Accidents can happen' (love that song) so before using BootCamp for Windows installation it is always a good idea to have a full bootable backup/clone of your Mac OSX on an external HD using either SuperDuper or Carbon Copy Cloner.

Stefan

  • World Wide Telescope and Parallels

    Greetings,
I am using Windows XP SP3 with Parallels 3.0 build 5584. Recently Microsoft released the spring beta of the World Wide Telescope (http://www.worldwidetelescope.org/ExperienceIt/ExperienceIt.aspx?exp=true). This is a wonderful astronomy program, however it crashes within Parallels. To run it, I have to enable Direct X Shaders (experimental) under the video options.
It runs fine on Windows only machines. Anyone else experience this? Is there a way to fix this problem?
Anyone know if an OS X version of this will be released?
    Thanks,

  • IMac G5, "World Wide Warranty", video issue

I think I have bought a very beautiful, expensive, piece of junk. I live in Mexico, which also compounds the problem. In May of last year a friend of mine brought me my iMac G5 refurbished when she went to Dallas. It worked beautifully for about 2 months. Then it developed the known issue of the video power. The local Mac dealers, a store called MicroHouse here in Toluca, were WONDERFUL. It's NOT our problem. I said look at the paper that comes with the machine "World Wide Warranty" for one year. "Doesn't matter" said they. Negative intransigence is wonderful. Finally another friend went to San Antonio. The Mac store there fixed it---or thought they did. It worked great for a week, then developed another problem. also video. I now have yellow stripes, sometimes vertical sometimes horizontal, and splotches. all over the screen. The problem is intermittent. Sometimes it's worse than others. The actual processor seems to be working fine, but having variable yellow stripes and blotches is NOT what I paid over 1000 US for. Also, when the there is a black background, the color is usually a strange blue with glittering yellowish flashes. Sometimes rebooting helps, and sometimes it's worse after. Of course I went back to my trusty friends at MicroHouse, and of course they said the same thing as before. The idiot who is the owner even said that the refurbished machines only have a three month warranty and tried to tell me what English means, he's from here but I think he does speak some English. I told him to look at the Apple page. My question is "Is the World Wide Warranty just a piece of useless paper?" It's too coarse to use in the bathroom and not absorbent enough to use in the kitchen. In short, I want my money back.

Just a quick question. Is Mac warranty valid for any country in the world?
    Yes.

  • How i upload a web page named index.html generated by NI Web UI Builder in thin client application on world wide Web

    Hello All,
I have an example which use simulated signal with its web service generated by LabVIEW. Then an application of this web service was created using NI web UI builder. And application was build and deployed on NI Cloud Portal, a zip file was downloaded of that project  after build and deploying application.
The downloaded file contain a thin client application like :index.html page, readme file etc.
Now problems is this index.html runs easily on http://localhost:8080/appname/index.html or on my computer name like
http://iaa42:8080/appname/index.html web page runs and shows updated values in indicators and graphs  but when i use ip address of my system like http://192.168.1.6:8080/appname/index.html , index.html runs but the values in indicator and graphs remains 0 (zero) constantly.     how can i get all indicators and graphs updating continously on by using my ip address like same when i use localhost or computer name in url bar.    1st problem is this.
    Now 2nd question.
I get a page index.html in a zip file built by NI web UI builder now i want this page to be viewed by every one world wide
where should i upload that code. Should NI Cloud Portal be my hosting server for that web page ? or i have to purchase a domain other than NI cloud portal?
     Thanks in Advance
    Regards
    Waqas

    Hi Waqas,
For your first question, my first thoughts turn to your router (which I assume you are using with a 192.168.x.x address). Are you sure you are configuring your ports and firewalls to allow NI services to function? Here is a really good resource on how to check if your ports and firewalls are configured properly:
    http://www.ni.com/white-paper/12402/en/
For your second question, when you deploy a web service you are hosting it on your local machine. If you wanted to host it elsewhere (i.e. another server or another domain) you would have to be sure that the server hosting your application has the LabVIEW run-time engine installed.

  • How do I set up Mozilla to accept connections on port "The World Wide Web service (HTTP)"?

When attempting to embed a video in PowerPoint 2013, the message "Sorry we are having some temporary service issues" appears.
In researching the problem at Microsoft. com, the following message was received: Mozilla is not set up to accept connections on port "The World Wide Web service (HTTP)."

Hmm... PowerPoint should use Windows to connect to the internet and not Firefox.
    Which method are you using?
    (1) Insert > Video > Online Video
Apparently there was an update this month that enables this, as described in this support post (see top Answer just after the question): [http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/office/forum/office_2013_release-powerpoint/embedding-online-you-tube-video-in-powerpoint-2013/0bc00dde-420c-4c6a-bd47-3fb105ce40fc Embedding online you tube video in powerpoint 2013 - Microsoft Community]
Here's how it should work after the update: [http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/powerpoint-help/insert-or-link-to-a-video-on-youtube-HA104192855.aspx Insert or link to a video on YouTube - PowerPoint]
    (2) Developer > More Controls > Shockwave Flash Object
As documented on other sites, such as: https://www2.palomar.edu/pages/atrc/2013/09/17/how-to-embed-youtube-video-in-powerpoint-2013/

  • Any info on the World Wide Web Consortium

I kind of stumbled on this site, http://www.w3.org/ & was wondering if anyone had some input. A link from the site, lets you do a check of your website to see if it conforms to the open standards of the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) and checks for various errors. Here's the link http://jigsaw.w3.org/css-validator/
    I have three iWeb sites.
    1) links directly to my site using web.mac.com/user/site
    2) links to my domain name using web forwarding
    3) links to my domain name using .mac personal domain
If I put 1 + 2 in the CSS Validator, it says no errors were found & the site conforms to the W3C
If I put site 3, using my domain name as the URL, it says there are errors
If I put the web.mac.com/user/site URL for site 3 it has no errors & says the site conforms to W3C.
So my question is, does any one know if by using .Mac Personal Domain, would it make a difference in how a site would be validated by CSS

The validator just checks to see if there are grammatical errors in the code. Just as in written/spoken human language.
A browser may not understand what is being said. Just as in real life.
Most problems occur in executing the JavaScript.
Also, Firefox cs. have difficulty displaying the shades and mirrors of images. Just because they cannot interpret the JavaScript. W3 cannot check that.
Internet Explorer usually has no idea what a webpage is. Try [this page|http://web.mac.com/wyodor/boxsamples> and [this one|http://web.mac.com/wyodor/hello_world> to get the idea.
My impression is that iWeb is a bit too advanced for some browsers.
Ignoring some minor errors, iWeb pages validate correctly.

  • Experience with APO World Wide System

    Dear Experts,
Please let me know if you any one of you has an experience in having the APO as a world wide system in the your organization. If so please share your experience.
    Thanks,
    Siva.

    Siva,
There is not much to say.  SAP is designed to be expandable.  If you have ever set up SAP to run in more than one physical location, you already know what the issues are.  Multiply that effort by 'X'.
There is a culture shock for IT if they have never run a 24X7X365 operation before.  The business has to reevaluate the so-called 'night jobs', and decide when (or if) they should be run.  Since it is typically difficult to exclude users for any length of time in a true worldwide environment, hardware requirements may need to be reevaluated - do you have enough horsepower to run all the interactive sessions (which never cease) as well as the background jobs - simultaneously.  Basis has to step up here, trying to allocate active processes amongst the various servers (oh yeah, you will probably need to use a multiserver environment under SAP load balancing)

  • Adobe Partner Finder -World Wide

This link maybe helpful. As I understand it, this is a partner finder list for Adobe.  If your are at a site and need to see if this site is a partner with Adobe, check out this link.  I stand corrected if this is not as I see it. This list is world wide.
    http://adobedealreg.force.com/PartnerSearch?lang=en

The "hack" had nothing to do with any applications or whether they work or not so, that's not it. Just thought I'd toss that out there first before you go and panic a bunch of people unnecessarily.
    Now, try this:
Download the Adobe Cleaner here: http://labs.adobe.com/downloads/acrobatcleaner.html
Download the FULL installer here: http://get.adobe.com/reader/enterprise/
    Save the files.
    Close your browser.
Run the Cleaner to completely remove Reader.
Then run the full installer to replace it.

Reading terms and conditions page 3 of new account for iTunes Store before I  put in US$ voucher purchased in Zimbabwe. If I'm traveling world wide, willI I still be able to access the US services via this same account?

You can only use the US store if you are in the US with a US billing address on your account - the US store's terms of use (and they will be similar for all countries) :
The iTunes Service is available to you only in the United States, its territories, and possessions. You agree not to use or attempt to use the iTunes Service from outside these locations. Apple may use technologies to verify your compliance.

  • World wide web crawling and gateway

Hi all,We'd like to crawl a world wide web site and open the documents/contents thru the gateway. While we set up the www data source, with the "using gateway" option selected, the portal asks for a web service: which is the correct one? Do we need to create a new one and, if yes, what should we specify in Container URL, Document URL and Upload URL fields? Thanks, Federico

Hi, I would add to Susie, that depending on your Exchange version, as I guess you are at 2007 (as it support 2003x64), you can repair the IIS website easilly.
    That link got a good todo;
    - How To: Recreate OWA Virtual Directory 2007
Do you use that IIS to deliver other website ? or only the OWA ?  If only the OWA you can safelly repair it with the Exchange built-in commandshell.
If you tried in the past to remove the IIS, or such manipulation it break deeply Exchange, thus can lead to a buggy IIS. See that link if you tied some manupulation on the IIS (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/320202/en-us)
