Here's what's going on...

I have a MacBook Pro 2011 13" and it was running absolutely perfect, no problems whatsoever. I went to download the new OS X Maverick, and while it was restarting and installing it would stop and say "Install Failed because the hard drive is damaged, please stop, back up your data, clear your drive and start again basically" Now I'm kind of freaking out because my hard drive is damaged? how does that happen, everything was running perfect ever since the day I bought it. So I try and quit the download and just log back into my computer and it won't let me. Every time I tried turning it back on or quitting it would try and install this new operating system and just fail every time. By this point I'm on the phone with apple support people because I'm covered, and the people have me trying different things running tests and trying to fix it on its own but nothing was working. They basically gave me two options; clear everything and start over or try and take it to an Apple store and have them try and "recover" the data for an additional fee of $99. Now I was all game for that because I need the stuff on my hard drive, only problem was there was no guarantee that they would even be able to recover my stuff but at that point I was willing to try. However the next day when I call to check on it they inform me that they were not able to recover anything and my hard drive was too damaged (damaged how????? I didn't do anything) it was only then did they refer me to a third party company who professionally recovers info off of hard drives 100% as much as they can, for an additional fee of about anywhere from $700-$2400 is what the guy told me and that is with a discount (why didn't they tell me this before I shelled out $100 bucks for them to "try" and get my data off?!) Now I don't know the first thing about getting data off of hard drives and I don't imagine it is easy but it is very aggravating having to go through all this just because I wanted to update my laptop. I lost EVERYTHING. and I even paid the extra for Apple Care a year ago and it is doing me no good. I still have to pay for a data recovery service that didn't even work from the Apple store. I just don't know what to do. This Maverick system totally screwed me over and I still am kind of in shock that everything I've ever had is gone. I feel helpless and it doesn't seem like anyone from Apple really gives a crap, even though it is their fault. Any thoughts/ advice on what I should do?

well what's funny is I have a gigabyte k8ns pro sitting here too(that i bought thinking it would work with my mobile chip, but was told it wouldn't, so I got the MSI...) and I'm thinking of getting a desktop chip and trying out the gigabyte mobo...and if that has no problems I'll probably stick with that, but I'm not sure I'll do this or not.

I have been waiting on hold for 45 minutes. THe server is down. It started playing up 5 hours ago (lunchtime UK). No one can open links or submit PDF forms.
I have a deadline for a form submission in 1 hour and this is causing me a massive headache (panic calls, emails etc). Certainly not something I would expect from Adobe. I doubt we will ever use this service again unless Adobe fix ASAP, apologise and promise this kind a fall-over will never happen again for a cloud service.

I noticed the same problem after upgrading a few iPhones to IOS 8, all use the same Apple ID. However, I now notice when I go into Message and instead of selecting a person from my contact list, I start typing their name which brings up a list of people, some of which are not in my contact list and are on one of the other iPhones. There's a circle/exclamation point next to the name which I click on, and one of the options is to "Remove from Recent". How did these names get from one phone to another and how do I remove all "recents"? They do not appear in my contact list. Anyone see this?

It wouldn't open unless I clicked "upgrade." The other option was "cancel." The Genius at the Apple Store said I had no choice. The new stuff looks idfferent but maybe it's just taking a while to go through all my photos. I can't tell what is going on exactly, but I'm nervous to see the last slideshow there is 2010.
We are backed up on Carbonite, but the hoops to go through getting specific items back seems daunting to me.

The single download means that you won't be able to redownload it from the store without paying, either on a computer's iTunes or an iOS device - it doesn't stop you from copying the audiobook to your other computers or syncing it to your iOS devices, you just can't redownload it. (I believe that they are all supplied to Apple by audible.com, so I assume that it's them requiring the one-time download.)
You can download audiobooks on your computer's iTunes and sync them to iOS devices, you do not have to buy them directly on the device (if you do then you can copy them back to your computer's iTunes library by connecting the device and using the File > Devices > Transfer Purchases menu option on your computer's iTunes).
What you are doing to sync them should work i.e.
- connecting the iPad to your Mac
- selecting the iPad on your Mac's iTunes
- selecting its Books tab and selecting the audiobooks that you want to sync to the iPad and syncing/applying that selection.
You should then get an audiobooks option in the Music app on your iPad. If they aren't appearing there then do they show in Settings > General > Usage > Music on the device - if you have audiobooks on the iPad then they should be listed there under an 'audiobooks' heading.
By 'restart the iPad' do you mean a soft-reset : press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.
You could also try closing its Music app via the iPad's taskbar : Force an app to close in iOS.
And do a soft-reset and retry syncing.

In attempt to burn blu-ray, I get QuickTime error 0. Takes hours to export a 7 minute movie from timeline, then get notice it fails. What's going on here?

New problem just started 24 hours ago. When I try to export from the time line to create a QuickTime file, a 7 minute movie on time line takes 3 hours to export and then the export fails, where as a few days ago, that export would take about 10 minutes at most. I get the same failure notice when I try to share to blu-ray, DVD, or Vimeo. Tried to use compressor, no such luck as compressor failed to make a .mov file. I get QuickTime error 0 message about 5 minutes into trying to share to Blu-Ray now. Does anyone know what is going on here? I'm running latest update of Snow Leopard on an intel Mac Pro and the latest update to Final Cut Pro X. I've also installed QT 7.6.6 to use in creating time lapse movie files.

Same problem here, too. Final Cut Pro X 10.0.3 on OS 10.6.8. However, it is only doing it on ONE of my projects. A 4-second test project burned successfully.
I'm actually going to use iDVD to burn copies for a few people, so I only need the movie file from FCPX.
Would someone please post best export settings for use on a DVD? In FCPX, the project is in HD (1080p) with all media optimized to ProRes 442. I know it will have to be down-sampled to DVD resolution, but I've always been curious to know what settings will result produce the best possible quality in DVD resolution.

Your problem has been reported many times, but causes are as varied as individuals.
Can we assume that a hard shutdown allows a normal restart?
Can I assume that you have used Disk Utility from your OS X install disc to repair the hard drive directory? The freezes and hard shutdowns require that the drive be repaired (not permissions) or soon the machine won't boot at all.
If the root issue is software related, in Console (the application) under Logs, there should be loggings around the time of sleep and logs that tell you what process went wild and froze the machine.
Network activity is also a common casue.

I do not know how to do this with an Apple TV (I don't have one), but as far as I know Apple TV only does mirroring.
If you have an HDMI cable long enough to reach your TV from where you sit, then it's easy. The TV could be set up in Extended Desktop mode (mirroring off) as if it was simply another computer monitor, and then you could just drag windows to it. If you have the Displays icon in your menu bar, that's where the setting is, or if the icon is not there, then the setting is in the Displays system preference. But again, that's for conventionally connected monitors, not Apple TV. If you don't have an HDMI cable and wanted a long one that's affordable you can get those at monoprice.com.
The answer we are still waiting for is if anyone knows if Apple TV can be used in extended desktop (non-mirroring) mode.

What's going on here? Terminal screen pops up after installing Mountain lion.

I installed mountain lion yesterday! all looked like it was working well. Just now I rebooted my iMac. The first thing I see on my computer is that it booted up in terminal mode! I have white lettering on black background with a lot of lines of text. At the end of many lines of text there is a copyright Regentss of the university of California."? Than it goes on with " MAC Franework successfully initialized."
The text goes on until " Root device is mounted read-only." than it ask if i want to boot system enter exit & hit return.
Anybody know what's going on here. I have never experienced this in my many years as a Apple enthusiasts!

Open up iTunes. Go to Store. Go to Account and sign in. Click on Purchase History. Find your purchase record.

No, dude, if this guy can use it, so can most of his other neighbors. Let's point out a few things:
1. This is very poor security, not to mention irresponsible of the neighbor to open his wireless to every person and pervert in his neighborhood!
2. This guy still has NO control over who's using is, so of course bandwidth will be affected
3. Until the neighbor locks it down to just 2 people, of course it will be slow
Let's start using our brains before we have the poor guy start deleting plists, getting the apple broadband utility, rebuilding his O/S, reinstalling the combo updates and/or repairing permissions (good one!) .... he simply has NO control over the speed of that which he's using/stealing.
