Heroes of Newerth - HoN Mod Manager

Anyone playing Heroes of Newerth? Up until recently due to my ATI card I had to play HoN on my Windows partition. But I just bought an nVidia card so bye bye Windows.
My problem is the Hon Mod Manager. I'm lost. Which one do you use? The native Windows or the Linux one? Both require Wine. :-/ Where should I put. Which is the path to the binary? Have you managed to get to work?
I'd appreciate your help. Thanks in advance.

I used the Linux one (it doesn't require wine, I believe it required mono) back in the beta days, but since my region is cut off I've just stopped playing and deleted everything. I don't remember it being too difficult to setup, though, just run it like 'mono honmod.exe' or something.

  • Heroes of newerth install, nothing but problems

i hope this is the right place to post this but ive been trying to install HON for like 2 days now. ive searched all the forums and cant seem to get a straight answer. it seems like alot of people have this problem but no one can figure it out. so i downloaded the .sh file from the official website and when i got it i right clicked>properites> make executeable or something like that. so i run it in the terminal and i accept the license agreement and it installs, says it was sucessfull and even puts an awesome icon in my apps drawr. but when i click on it it flashes something really quick, positions my cursor to the center of the screen and then does nothing.

Sorry for the late reply. I had the same issue with a fresh install recently. The workaround for this is to seed a HoN config file before trying to ./hon-x86 or ./hon.sh.
    More details here:
    http://forums.heroesofnewerth.com/showp … ostcount=2
    Could you try:
    mkdir -p "/home/$(whoami)/.Heroes of Newerth/game"; echo -e "SetSave \"vid_bpp\" \"32\"\nSetSave \"vid_refreshRate\" \"60\"\nSetSave \"vid_resolution\" \"$(xrandr | grep \* | cut -d' ' -f4 | tr x ,)\"" > "/home/$(whoami)/.Heroes of Newerth/game/startup.cfg"
That should seed your config enough to allow hon to launch - this will be fixed shortly

Do you really think people can magically know what your system is? I mean, what do you even expect. You give 1 bit of info (nvida) and expect people to be able to help you. Are you serious?
Provide at least these: lspci, lshw -C video, lshw -short, glxinfo|grep -i rend, pacman -Qs mesa, pacman -Qs nvidia, pacman -Qi linux, uname -a

  • Bootcamp question in respect to gaming (Starcraft 2 and Heroes of Newerth)

Hi, I have a 2010 Macbook Pro. Ive been playing games on it since I got it, and its gaming performance has deteriorated somewhat. Although at first it was decent, now its very obvious that the laptop is struggling to keep up with the graphics. I play Starcraft 2 and Heroes of newerth. On Heroes of Newerth I can put the settings on moderately high with few problems, but not with everything cranked up. Seeing that my 4GB ram is twice that of the system requirements Im wondering if bootcamp will help. I was also wondering if bootcamp affects my laptops performance in terms of video and graphics. The same for Starcraft 2, except I can barely run most settings on Medium with alot of the extra effects and settings off and it still gets fairly choppy during big fights. The graphics card is an Nvidia Geforce 320m. Is this something I should be asking on the Starcraft 2 and Heroes of Newerth forums?

I don't know how much help I will be.  I do know that a lot depends on what version of Windows you will run on the Bootcamp partition.  I used to run XP Pro SP3, which only sees a portion of the RAM, 3 gigs I think.  I would assume the newer 64bit versions of Windows would work better.  Good luck.

  • Heroes of Newerth - crashing OS X. also, fan problem.

Everytime I play Hereos of Newerth, the system will freeze. Sometimes the gray screen comes up telling me to reboot, but sometimes it just freezes and forces me to hard reset. Is anyone else having this issue ?
Also sometimes the CPU will hit 80 something degrees C and the fans do not come on. I have to force them to speed up using SMC Fan Control. Is this a ship-my-laptop-away-to-Apple kind of problem?
    thanks for any help!

As I understand it, jezonu, this game is still very much in "closed beta" mode as far as the current Mac version is concerned.
You'd really be better off addressing any problems to the makers of the game. Sounds like they still have quite a bit of work to do!
No, nothing you say suggests that you should send your MacBook Pro back to Apple.
    Cheers

  • [SOLVED] Heroes of Newerth Issue

Hello fellow arch users! Just got my build up and going last night and today installed HoN. Having a bit of an issue with it was wondering if anyone had some similar issues or has experienced this in the past.
In the game you use ALT + qweasd to access items in your inventory. everytime i try to use these it takes hon out of focus and goes to the console that i used to launch hon.
I'm using wmfs if that helps, i'd be glad to post any extra information, let me know if more will help!
    thank you!
EDIT:: found the binds in WMFS, thanks for your help! changed from ALT to SUPER

Do you have keybinded something in wmfs on ALT + qweasd? It looks like you do...
In the worst case you can rebind item access on something else... I've been using number 4,5,6,...

  • Xmonad: certain windows/applications get displayed on all workspaces

After recent upgrades (relevant pacman.log: http://pastie.org/8633439), some of my programs get wrongly displayed on all workspaces. Mainly, it's mplayer/mpv, the native Steam client and the native linux game "Heroes of Newerth" (HoN).
I start HoN on Workspace 7 in Xmonad and it should stay there. However, after I have started the game and switch to a different workspace, I still see the HoN screen in its entirety. However, I can issue commands to the program that is on the workspace I switched to. For example, I switched to workspace 1 where I have my browser and pressed CTRL+T a few times. After I had closed HoN, I could see that indeed the browser had a few more open tabs. So the focus switches correctly, yet I still see nothing but HoN. The same happens with mplayer or mpv. When I open any video in it and pause it, everything is as it should be when I switch to a different workspace. However, if I switch workspaces while the video is running, it will also be displayed on all other workspaces above all other programs. So I guess it has something to do with programs/windows that update themselves to show something new. Cause it's the same with every Steam window - whenever the Steam store window updates a screenshot or something, Steam will be on all workspaces.
I have tried to replicate this with Openbox to make sure it's got something to do with Xmonad, and yes, this does not occur in Openbox. A buddy of mine has the same problem with the same programs (plus a wine game), he is running xmonad on archlinux as well.
    Here is my xmonad.hs: http://pastie.org/8633442

To be more precise: I downgraded xorg-server-common (1.15.0-5 -> 1.14.4-1), xf86-input-evdev (2.8.2-2 -> 2.8.2-1), xorg-server (1.15.0-5 -> 1.14.4-1), libgcrypt (1.6.0-1 -> 1.5.3-1). Then i could switch workspaces as intended. But i got lots of errors with other applications. Like mplayer didn't work because the newer libgcrypt couldn't be found etc. And ofc i don't want to use some old crypto libs anyway.
But that has shown me, that somehow the upgrade to xorg-1.15 had broken things. But i can't really say if that is xorgs ord xmonads error, because it works well with openbox.
I'll take a look at xcompmgr. Thanks for the hint.
Edit: It works like a charm. Thank you very much.

  • Cry for help: a decent network profile manager

Am I the only one that finds the default arch linux network profile management a bit.. lacking? Maybe I just don't have it set up right, but it only works for my ethernet connection and connecting to non-encrypted wireless networks. Problem is, I run WPA2-AES networks at home and at work. I finally got wpa_supplicant properly set up (I'm on wireless right now), but I can't just select the network profile from the menu and be on my way.
Here is what I have to do to get connected right now:
    [root@cdl-magnesium chris]# wpa_supplicant -dw -c/etc/wpa_supplicant.conf -Dmadwifi -iath0
    [root@cdl-magnesium chris]# dhcpcd ath0
and I'm connected, everything working great. That's fairly simple, right? I'm thinking my network profile has a lot more in it than necessary.
    # Network Profile
    DESCRIPTION="57 May"
    # Network Settings
    INTERFACE=ath0
    #HOSTNAME=myhost
    # Interface Settings (use IFOPTS="dhcp" for DHCP)
    IFOPTS="dhcp"
    #GATEWAY=192.168.0.1
    # DNS Settings (optional)
    #DOMAIN=localdomain
    #DNS1=192.168.0.1
    #DNS2=
    # Wireless Settings (optional)
    ESSID="Galactica"
    #KEY=
    #IWOPTS="mode managed essid $ESSID channel 6 key restricted $KEY"
WIFI_INTERFACE=wifi0 # use this if you have a special wireless interface
    # that is linked to the real $INTERFACE
WIFI_WAIT=5 # seconds to wait for the wireless card to
    # associate before bringing the interface up
    USEWPA="yes" # start wpa_supplicant with the profile
WPAOPTS="-D madwifi" # use "" for normal operation or specify additional
    # options (eg, "-D ipw")
    # see /etc/wpa_supplicant.conf for configuration
    #AUTOWPA="yes" # automatically configure WPA
If I do a /etc/rc.d/network restart and select the profile from the menu, I get all sorts of errors about not being able to connect to wpa_supplicant (because for some reason it isn't running.. was I supposed to do something about that?).
I'm a bit tired right now so pardon any incomprehensible sentences or questions
ps: while we're on the subject, is there a way to re-sort the items in the network profile list? It always wants to connect to this broken wpa2 profile first, as I think it just goes in alphabetic order or somethin. I guess I should just turn off the timeout so it always waits for me to choose.

    i'm working on one.

  • How do I get FF to work with Mod Organizer (for mods used with ES: Skyrim)? I get an error message that it can't understand the address given.

I am an avid Elder Scrolls fan and am using the new STEP 2.2.9 setup. They've gone to Mod Organizer (MO) and I cannot seem to get my FF working with the download mod portion of things. I click the "earth" icon, which takes me immediately to the Nexus Mod files page but when I choose a file to download after clicking "Download with Manager" I get this error message:
    The address wasn't understood
Firefox doesn't know how to open this address, because one of the following protocols (nxm) isn't associated with any program or is not allowed in this context.
You might need to install other software to open this address.
The address given, when clicking "Download with Manager" begins with nxm://Skyrim/mods/ The address is such due to trying to download with the manager.
Any help will be greatly appreciated! I've pulled my hair out for the last few hours trying to find a fix. I've disabled Adblock, all other popup blockers and enabled the main address in my exception rules. It's just not working. Ugh!
    Thank you in advance!

In order to use ''nxm://'' links, Nexus Mod Manager must be installed and associated with the ''nxm'' protocol.

I use WPA2 with network manager without a problem.  It should "just work", im not sure why you have issues, can you switch your router to a different security protocol to test?

    Hi Charan,
if your ManagedServers are not in Configured for MSI Mode (Managed Server Indepence Mode) then you wont be able to start your Servers until the AdminServer is Already Running. I can see that the Exception u pasted that...your AdminServer is not reachable....It may be due to AdminServer Vs ManagedServer BOX Network Issue or Your AdminServer might be down when u tried to start the ManagedServer.

  • Gnome-network-manager problems

    Hello all,
I'm trying to use gnome-network-manager to connect to my wifi as it is WEP enabled and I don't know how to get it working in 'network'.
    I followed this tutorial: http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/NetworkManager
However, when I reboot under those settings, I can't connect to anything, including ethernet.
Is there a problem in the wiki or is there a workaround that hasn't been posted there yet? I'm utterly confused as to why it will not work.
Also, if you need me to paste any code from any file, can you also tell me an easy way to copy/paste between aterm and Opera as I haven't found a way to do that yet.
Thank you very much for any help.

I was originally not in the network and networkmanager group but tried adding myself in the course of reading your post, because I thought maybe that could be the reason, but it didn't change anything
I had to create the networkmanager group because it was not existent but https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Groups#Groups says this group should exist.

  • Setting wireless interface mode with PRO/Wireless 4965 AGN

I'm trying to set my laptop's wireless interface to run in Ad-Hoc mode. Currently the interface is in managed mode
    [root@nathan-laptop /]# iwconfig wlan0
    wlan0 IEEE 802.11abgn ESSID:"Farfel"
    Mode:Managed Frequency:2.422 GHz Access Point: 00:1C:F0:B8:4A:3F
    Bit Rate=60 Mb/s Tx-Power=14 dBm
    Retry min limit:7 RTS thr:off Fragment thr=2352 B
    Encryption key:off
    Power Management:off
Link Quality=100/100 Signal level:-55 dBm Noise level=-95 dBm
Rx invalid nwid:0 Rx invalid crypt:0 Rx invalid frag:0
    Tx excessive retries:0 Invalid misc:0 Missed beacon:0
When trying to change it I get the following error:
    [root@nathan-laptop /]# iwconfig wlan0 mode ad-hoc
Error for wireless request "Set Mode" (8B06) :
SET failed on device wlan0 ; Operation not supported.
To add the the mystery when I boot from an arch live cd I am able to change the wireless interface's mode. I'm using the latest iwlwifi-4965-ucode firmware as well as the iwlagn kernel module.
Does anybody know what the problem is?

The problem seems to have resolved itself after updating the kernel.
