How to create database link between oracle database and My SQL Database
Hi,
You can use the Database Gateway for ODBC (DG4ODBC) to cretae a database link from Oracle to MySQL.
Have a look at the following notes in My Oracle Support which give detalsl on the gateways in general and configuring DG4ODBC -

Oracle heterogeneous connectivity for DB2
Hi,
We want to connect DB2 database with Oracle 8i. We have read that it is possible with Generic connectivity and Transparent gateways.
Any one knows the differece between the two when connecting to DB2?
Which one is simpler if we have to use dblink concept
Thanks,
AjayDear Ajay,
I used heterogenous connectivity to connect to DB2 but it is very very slow. And checked about Oracle gateway to Db2 and came to know that it is also very slow. The next solution was using ODBC to db2 using Forms 6i Patch 13. The connectivity is very good otherwise u can use DB2 Information Integrator software (cost about $20-50 K). If you need any more information please let me know. -
Sybase oracle heterogeneous connection
Hi all,
I created a connection from oracle to sybase using oracle heterogeneous connection. However I have a problem with numeric characters, I cannot get floating parts of numbers.
when I use create as syntax it maps to correct data types(with the correct precision and scale) but 12,49 comes like 12,00.
My Database is 10.2.0.3.0 32bit windows
Any help would be appreciated..The problem was because of language settings. Setting NLS_LANG in the registery to correct setting solved the problem..

Heterogeneous connection between Oracle and Postgres.
Hi All,
I'm trying to make an heterogeneous connection between Oracle and Postgres since few days but i still having this error : "lost RPC connection".
First of all : I'm using Windows 7, Oracle 10g and PostgreSQL 8.4.
I have done the following operations :
1) Create a System DNS named "PG". (Test connection is OK)
2) Create the file "initPG.ora" in "$ORACLE_HOME/hs/admin" :
# This is a sample agent init file that contains the HS parameters that are
# needed for an ODBC Agent.
# HS init parameters
HS_FDS_CONNECT_INFO = PG
HS_FDS_TRACE_LEVEL = ON
# Environment variables required for the non-Oracle system
#set <envvar>=<value>
3) Configure the file "listener.ora" (in "$ORACLE_HOME/NETWORK/ADMIN") :
SID_LIST_LISTENER =
(SID_LIST =
(SID_DESC =
(SID_NAME = PLSExtProc)
(ORACLE_HOME = C:\oraclexe\app\oracle\product\10.2.0\server)
(PROGRAM = extproc)
(SID_DESC =
(SID_NAME = CLRExtProc)
(ORACLE_HOME = C:\oraclexe\app\oracle\product\10.2.0\server)
(PROGRAM = extproc)
(SID_DESC =
(SID_NAME = PG)
(ORACLE_HOME = C:\oraclexe\app\oracle\product\10.2.0\server)
(PROGRAM = hsodbc)
LISTENER =
(DESCRIPTION_LIST =
(DESCRIPTION =
(ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = IPC)(KEY = EXTPROC_FOR_XE))
(ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = Cédric-PC)(PORT = 1521))
DEFAULT_SERVICE_LISTENER = (XE)
4) Configure the file "tnsnames.ora" (in "$ORACLE_HOME/NETWORK/ADMIN") :
XE =
(DESCRIPTION =
(ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = Cédric-PC)(PORT = 1521))
(CONNECT_DATA =
(SERVER = DEDICATED)
(SERVICE_NAME = XE)
PG =
(DESCRIPTION =
(ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = tcp)(HOST = Cédric-PC)(PORT = 1521))
(CONNECT_DATA =
(SERVICE_NAME = PG)
(HS = OK)
EXTPROC_CONNECTION_DATA =
(DESCRIPTION =
(ADDRESS_LIST =
(ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = IPC)(KEY = EXTPROC_FOR_XE))
(CONNECT_DATA =
(SID = PLSExtProc)
(PRESENTATION = RO)
ORACLR_CONNECTION_DATA =
(DESCRIPTION =
(ADDRESS_LIST =
(ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = IPC)(KEY = EXTPROC_FOR_XE))
(CONNECT_DATA =
(SID = CLRExtProc)
(PRESENTATION = RO)
5) Finally, i create my DB-Link and test it :
CREATE DATABASE LINK "CENTRALE_POSTGRES" CONNECT TO "user_login" IDENTIFIED BY "user_password" USING 'PG';
SELECT * FROM "dual"@CENTRALE_POSTGRES;
I got this error :
ORA-03135 : lost RPC connection.
As you can see, i have activated the trace level (HS_FDS_TRACE_LEVEL = ON), but the directory "$ORACLE_HOME/NETWORK/trace" still empty.
Any ideas ?
Regardsthe tnsnames.ora alias PG is wrong - you need to have 2 closing brackets after the SERVICE_NAME so that HS=OK is outside of the CONNECT_DATA like:
PG =
<space>(DESCRIPTION =
<space><space>(ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = tcp)(HOST = Cédric-PC)(PORT = 1521))
<space><space>(CONNECT_DATA =
<space><space><space>(SERVICE_NAME = PG))
<space><space>(HS = OK)
<space>)
Please be also aware HSODBC up to release 10.2 has been desupported since March 2008 and it was replaced by its follow up product DG4ODBC V11 -
Heterogeneous Connectivity to Mysql
Hi Fellows.
I need to connect to a Mysql Database online from Oracle 10G (Create a link) I read some article regarding Heterogeneous Connectivity to other non Oracle Databases without ODBC or DNS. Does anybody has deploy this Oracle feature???? Does Oracle 10G has another choice to connect to other relational databases............If somebody has information to connect to Mysql Database wil be great!!!!
Thanks a lot.!!!!
Emmanuel.I'm still really confused by why you're talking about DNS. DNS is just a mechanism for resolving host names into IP addresses and that happens only at connection time and only if you have specified a host name.
Yes, normally ODBC is not the most efficient API in the world-- it was designed as a least common denominator API and designed with SQL Server in mind. That said, if you want to use Heterogeneous Services, you would either need ODBC, OLE DB, or a Transparent Gateway. If you are under time constraints, I'm going to wager that you don't have the time and budget to go out an purchase a Transparent Gateway. So you'd either have to use ODBC or OLE DB. I do not know if there is a MySQL OLE DB provider that runs on SUSE-- I would tend to doubt it. Which leaves just ODBC, assuming you've got a MySQL ODBC driver that runs on SUSE.
Personally, I've used Generic Connectivity to connect to DB2 and SQL Server databases from an AIX box (using commercial ODBC drivers) and to Excel files from a Windows box. I've never personally connected to a MySQL database, though if you're talking about ODBC connections, it doesn't really matter what database you are connecting to.

Heterogeneous Connectivity to SQL Server from 8.0.5
I read many topics in this forum relating to Heterogeneous Services (HS) but cannot find any documentation that details how to 'invoke' an HS connection through ODBC
We need simple connectivity to a SQL-Server DB so there is no need to install Transparent Gateway.
So, how do we invoke a "Heterogeneous Service" call from a SQL*Net script? Do we configure an ODBC connection to the SQL Server in the Win2k ODBC applet first? Then how do we make the 'call' to that ODBC connection?
We saw in some postings that the TNSNAMES & LISTENER files require some entries; what is the format for those entries?Mariano,
You want to use Generic Connectivity to access SQL Server. This is documented in Chap 7 of the Heterogeneous Connectivity Administrator's Guide.
http://download-west.oracle.com/docs/cd/B10501_01/server.920/a96544/gencon.htm#1656
you will need an ODBC/OLE DB driver for sql server.
I hope that helps. -
Heterogeneous Connectivity: Error when select data from table
Hi all,
I use Heterogeneous Connectivity in Oracle 10g Linux to connect SQL server Database. I use FeeTDS ODBC driver. After configuration, I create database link in Oracle, Database link is active.
But in SQLplus, I write: select * from all_catalog@DBL; It views all tables and views in sql server database.
When I write: select * from AA@DBL; It produce error:
ORA-00942: table or view does not exist
[Generic Connectivity Using ODBC]Record AA has no fields. Loading failed
ORA-02063: preceding 2 lines from DBL
Please help me. Thank you very much!I am sorry, i did not go through the entire message of yours
Does AA exist, does not contain columns, describe the table please.
Maybe you should not try Select * from ,,,, rather Select specific fields.. Also if in the remote database, the field and tablename are written in lower case you may want to try
select "field_name" , from "aa" etc

Heterogeneous connectivity to Mainframes
Hi Friends,
We have data-interchange with another company. They are using
IBM Mainframe z/OS 1.4 Database – DASD Records in VSAM format.
I have zero knowledge on mainframes.
I want to link it with our Linux Oracle 10g DB. Is there a heterogeneos
connectivity available to this VSAM database? How do I connect to
it manually? Please give me links docs on VSAM files connect.

Setting Heterogeneous Connectivity Environment
hai,
i am very new to " ORACLE Heterogeneous Connectivity"..
and this is my senario..i need to connect oracle with microsoft access (and update 5 more tables regulary)..
so..
what are the pre-reqsites needed for doing this connectivity...
what are the drivers/softwarz,i supposed to install to achive my goal
Datebase:11g1
OS: wisdows XP
(i posted it at .. Forum Home » Database » Heterogeneous Connectivity..but no response..so any one who knows abt this,help me..)
regards,
jp@valapad1.First make an ODBC connection, make entry in System DSN(to create a data source)
2.Make an entry in tnsnames.ora
3.Make an entry in listener.ora under SID_LIST_LISTENER
4.Make an entry in file named init<HS>.ora file located "oracle_base\oracle_home\db\hs\admin"
5.Restart the listener
e.g:
1. create a odbc system dsn named like 'sqlserver'
2. sqlserver= (DESCRIPTION=
(ADDRESS=(PROTOCOL=tcp) (HOST=xx.xx.xx.xx) (PORT=1521))
(CONNECT_DATA = (SERVICE_NAME=sqlserver))
(HS = OK)
3. (SID_DESC = (SID_NAME = sqlserver) (ORACLE_HOME = oracle_base\oracle_home\db) (PROGRAM = hsodbc) )
4.Create a file named initsqlserver.ora and make the following entry:
HS_FDS_CONNECT_INFO = sqlserver
Alternatively, you can copy the file named inithsodbc.ora and rename it to initsqlserver.ora
and edit as HS_FDS_CONNECT_INFO = sqlserver
5. lsnrctl reload listener_name

Heterogenous connection with dg4odbc Oracle 11g: insert did not work !
Hi,
we just migrated to a 64bits version of our oracle 10.2.0.4 database.
We had a heterogenus connection who was woking "A1" at that time (in 32 bits). Now, we had some problems with the Odbc 64bits and we found on this site that we can use dg4odbc (Oracle 11g).
We tried it and it works well except for a case ... We have to refresh some Oracle tables using a Ingres database. We have a first script SQL that truncate a table and insert data from a table (using heterogenous connection) terminated by a commit. The second one do exactly the same thing but we use a PL/SQL anonymous block.
Does anybody know why the first script work and the second not ...
Here is the "log" of the execution of the first script:

Heterogenous connectivity - HS ODBC
Hi,
what are the licensing constraints for such a product? Does it work with standard version or requires it Enterprise Edition, or is it a package to be bought separately?
Thanks
CiaoSpecifically on the licensing question
Heterogeneous Services is included with your database license
In order to actually make a database link to a non-Oracle database, though, Heterogeneous Services needs either Generic Connectivity or a Transparent Gateway. Generic Connectivity appears to be what you are looking to use-- that uses ODBC or OLE DB drivers to make a generic connection to the non-Oracle database. Generic Connectivity is included with your license, though you would potentially have to license the ODBC/ OLE DB driver. Using a Transparent Gateway, on the other hand, provides additional functionality (such as two-phase commits and additional performance), but requires licensing a separate Oracle product (the Transparent Gateway).
And just to note, nothing I've written here is in any way binding on Oracle-- only your Oracle sales rep can make that sort of binding agreement. My comments are general licensing comments-- your organization may have an agreement with Oracle that changes some or all of the standard licensing terms. Licensing terms may differ in your country. Oracle may change licensing terms whenever it wishes. And should there ever be a question about whether you are properly licensed, relying on comments made by some guy on the internet with a playing card logo next to his name probably isn't the position you'd want to be in.

Heterogenous Connection is Not Established
HI!
_1_. I am connecting Oracle with mysql using heterogenous services
a. I made mysql ODBC connection
b. Configured hs init file.
c. configured listener.ora
d. configured tnsnames.ora
e. created link in sql*Plus
_2_. But when i select table from mysql, it gives error:
ORA-12154: TNS:could not resolve the connect identifier specified
_3_ I have also used to connect through OLEDB, but the same error comes.
Note: I am using Oracle 10g, mysql 5.0.22, ODBC 3.5.27.
Plz help me in the same.
Regards!
Edited by: Kami_Lily on Jul 30, 2009 8:43 PM12154, 00000, "TNS:could not resolve the connect identifier specified"
// *Cause: A connection to a database or other service was requested using
// a connect identifier, and the connect identifier specified could not
// be resolved into a connect descriptor using one of the naming methods
// configured. For example, if the type of connect identifier used was a
// net service name then the net service name could not be found in a
// naming method repository, or the repository could not be
// located or reached.
// *Action:
// - If you are using local naming (TNSNAMES.ORA file):
// - Make sure that "TNSNAMES" is listed as one of the values of the
// NAMES.DIRECTORY_PATH parameter in the Oracle Net profile
// (SQLNET.ORA)
// - Verify that a TNSNAMES.ORA file exists and is in the proper
// directory and is accessible.
// - Check that the net service name used as the connect identifier
// exists in the TNSNAMES.ORA file.
// - Make sure there are no syntax errors anywhere in the TNSNAMES.ORA
// file. Look for unmatched parentheses or stray characters. Errors
// in a TNSNAMES.ORA file may make it unusable.
// - If you are using directory naming:
// - Verify that "LDAP" is listed as one of the values of the
// NAMES.DIRETORY_PATH parameter in the Oracle Net profile
// (SQLNET.ORA).
// - Verify that the LDAP directory server is up and that it is
// accessible.
// - Verify that the net service name or database name used as the
// connect identifier is configured in the directory.
// - Verify that the default context being used is correct by
// specifying a fully qualified net service name or a full LDAP DN
// as the connect identifier
// - If you are using easy connect naming:
// - Verify that "EZCONNECT" is listed as one of the values of the
// NAMES.DIRETORY_PATH parameter in the Oracle Net profile
// (SQLNET.ORA).
// - Make sure the host, port and service name specified
// are correct.
// - Try enclosing the connect identifier in quote marks.
// See the Oracle Net Services Administrators Guide or the Oracle
// operating system specific guide for more information on naming. -
MS-SQL Heterogeneous Connectivity setup.
The enviroment:
1)- Windows 2003. MS-SQL 2005. 64Bit AMD
2)- Linux x86_64 AMD. 10g.R2
Situation:
We need to stablish the Heterogeneous Services to synchronize data from MS-SQL 2005 to 10gR2.
Questions:
1) In case of Heterogeneous Services configuration. Can I install the service in the Linux Server? or I have to install a 10g database in the Winwdows Server?
2) What are my options?
3) I have problems in the pass with the AMD x86_64 with drivers, It is provided and any one have done it in this plataform in both windows and linux?
Thank you
Jose.Heterogeneous services is not clear what product you want to use.
In general for a SQL Server connection we offer a GATEWAY and GENERIC CONNECTIVITY; both rely on HS.
Generic Connectivity (=HSODBC) wasn't available for 64bit Linux in 10g and the 10g gateway wasn't available for 64bit Linux nor 64bit Windows.
BUT....
Starting with 11g we now offer the follow up product of HSODBC which is called database gateway for ODBC. This DG4ODBC is now available for Linux x86 64bit and it is also certified with a Oracle 10g.
DG4ODBC requires a 3rd party 64bit ODBC driver and as it is a generic connectivity it only supports a limited functionality. The follow up product of TG4MSQL is now called in 11g DG4MSQL and now also available in 11g for Linux x86 64bit and certified with an 10g Oracle database.
Both 11g gateway require 10.2.0.3 patchset combined with a compatibility patch or 10.2.0.4 patchset applied.
So to answer your questions:
1) Install DG4ODBC or DG4MSQL V11 into a separate Oracle_Home directory on your Linux database server.
2) DG4ODBC or DG4MSQL.
DG4ODBC is from the Oracle point of view for free; DG4MSQL requires a license.
3) You might check out DataDirect or Openlink; they offer commercial 64bit ODBC drivers. If you use the gateway it comes with everything you need to establish the connection. -
Heterogeneous Connectivity to MySQL with ODBC 5.1
Hi,
I have a setup with an oracle 10g XE version on an windows Server 2003 together with a MySQL 5.5
I setup a Heterogeneous Link using MySQL ODBC 5.1.
Every time I select something from a mysql table all varchar and text fields ignored in result set.
so the
select * from project@sugarcrm
returns only the non text/varchar fields (dates,numeric)
the select name from project@sugarcrm where name is char fiels
returns ORA-00904 'name invalid identifier '
ThanksI was looking for the sql.log in defined path if was in c:\ ...

Heterogeneous connectivity error
I am trying to access excel sheet data using database link.
I have set following parameters in inthsodbc file at orahome\hs\admin file
HS_FDS_CONNECT_INFO ,HS_FDS_TRACE_LEVEL = off
HS_AUTOREGISTER = TRUE,HS_DB_NAME = hsodbc
I have also set required parameters in tnsnames & listener.ora files.
I got following error,
SQL> select * from "Sheet1$"@my_excel_file;
select * from "Sheet1$"@my_excel_file
sheet1 is the name of excel sheet.

What is use of inthsodbc file at orahome\hs\admin ?The inithsodbc.ora file is a template that you can copy to help setup an odbc connection. The file helps the listener connect to the remote datasource.
Four things that are important for setting up the hs connection on windoze:
DSN
tnsnames.ora
listener.ora
