Heterogeneous copy or Migration

Hi,
I need to a heterogeneous copy or migration. I have a version of SAP 4.6c with db2 database. My query is:
1) It is possible to make migration of db2 to SQL Server (with Window 2003)?
2) Someone has a procedure to make this copy or migration?
3) The SAP version 4.6c, a version of SQL Server that I can take? SQL Server 2000 or SQL Server 2005?

David - There is a big difference between a copy and migration. You can only migrate from one brand of database to another.
SAP dose not support sql 2000 any more, so obviously you need to migrate to 2005. Migration is a highly complex work and should only be done by certified consultants. However there are many articles in sap service market place and SDN that you can search and get familiar with therms and requirments of this.

If you are performing an Homogeneous System Copy, no migration key is
needed. The migration key is needed ONLY if you are changing your operating
system or your database version, that is, you are doing an Heterogeneous
System Copy.
Please read the installation guide carefully, if you do any pre-steps wrongly..i.e enter wrong parameters...

The following are the software details
Source system
SAP Version = R/3 4.7 Enterprise Core 4.70 /Ext.set2000
(SR1)
Database = oracle 9.2.0
OS - Windows 2000 Server
Target System
SAP Version = R/3 4.7 Enterprise Core 4.70 /Ext.set2000
(SR1)
Database = oracle 9.2.0
os - IBM AIX 5.3
The server will be development server. Please let me know the prerequisite or Notes to install

Copy and Migrate query from BI 3.x to 7.0

Hello Experts,
We are going through the upgrade right now.
We have BI 3.x server and we are upgrading it to BI 7.0.
Now we have nearly 3200 queries, we want to copy those queries from BI 3.x to BI 7.0, and then we want to save it in BI 7.0.
So we will be able to keep the back up in BI 3.x.
As i have told you, we have lots of queries, so practically it is not phisible to go to BI 7.0 browser, open each query and save as with some different name.
Is there any other way for this?

You can open and edit queries from SAP BW 3.x with the BEx Query Designer from SAP NetWeaver 7.0, as required. However, as soon as you save a query, it is stored as an SAP NetWeaver 7.0 query. Queries from SAP BW 3.x and SAP NetWeaver 7.0 are stored in the same tables. Only the version information is adjusted as required.
Once you process and save queries with the BEx Query Designer from SAP NetWeaver 7.0, you can no longer open them with the BEx Query Designer from SAP BW 3.x. The queries are still displayed in the open dialog for the BEx Query Designer from SAP BW 3.x, but cannot be selected.
The reusable components of a query (structures, restricted and calculated key figures, variables) are also saved in the new version; this can result in dependencies to other queries. Likewise, these dependent queries can also only be opened with the BEx Query Designer from SAP NetWeaver 7.0. For information about eliminating these dependencies, see SAP Note 884629, which provides details about restoring temporarily stored queries
I am not sure but I heard that basis persons Can do migrate all queries from BW3.5 version to BI 7.0 at a time.Consult those persons you may get some idea

Can I pick which folders are copied in migration assistant?

I just reinstalled Tiger and i am trying to migrate my old system on an external drive back onto the origional. The total of the data on the external is way bigger than the capacity of the internal. Heres what is on the external,
- System folders (Want to migrate)
- A folder with data that was already on the external before i made it a clone. (Don't want to migrate)
Is there a way to select which folders to put back on the new OS? Or is there any way to make migration assistent not be able to copy that folder back on?

Copy or migrate web catalog from one environment to another

Reading docs and some posts, I understand that I should or can use the Catalog > Archive option in answers.
Our main objective is to migrate the privileges defined thru Administration >> Manage Privileges... We've tried a simple directory system copy (linux to linux) but it doesn't seem to be working.
Question is... while doing the Archive should I just select the shared folders and archive it ? or for copying the privileges I have to use the catalog manager ?

So I'd like to archive the whole catalog... pls. how to do it ? Maybe doing it in 3 parts: my, system, shared ?Is there any difference in zipping whole catalog folder and move to where ever you want and with archiving each folder?
I would suggest to move entire catalog folder when you want to archive root folder,for any specific changes (in Shared) do it Online mode when you want to keep same permissions.

Copying files/migration ...

Hi,
I have a new MacBook Pro and would like to move/copy a few programmes from my old MacBook.
However, I understand that by using 'Migration', all programmes will be moved. Someone told me about http://www.econtechnologies.com/site/Pages/ChronoSync/chrono_overview.html saying that this programme allows you to pick and choose which programmes to move.
Does anyone have any comments about this programme or know of anything similar one can use to copy programmes from one machine to another?

Using Migration Manager, "if an application is on both systems, only a newer one will be copied to this system". For a fuller understanding of Migration Manager see this article. Alternatively you can just re-install those apps.

Copy / Move / Migrate partition within VHD to another VHD(X)?

I inherited a VM with a single VHD that contains three partitions 100 MB System, 250 GB C:, 750 GB D:. The C: drive has 40 GB maybe on it and is wasted space mostly. I wanted to move the 750 GB partition to its own VHD and then shrink the original VHD.
Is there an easy way to move a partition from one VHD to another? I know I can move the entire VHD to another but can I do a portion based on partition?

I have a small query.
I created a project in one system and my project was running nicely. Now i moved my project to another system and tried to run it with jdev but its not recognising my business components packages. Do i need to recreate my business components packages or is there any other way out?

How can I make a migration copy of my email addresses for use in another program.

It is necessary to make a migration copy of all our email addresses for transfer to windows express.
Our office overseas can not use Thunderbird & needs all our email addresses stored in Thunderbird copied for migration into their windows express program. How can this be achieved.?
I think we may also need to transfer email copies too, can this be done.?
If so, how.?

Ok I have googled, I have found a windows cleaning company in Switzerland http://www.windowsexpress.org/About-Us.htmland something called Parallels Desktop for Mac with instructions for installing windows on a mac.
So I think we need to go back to the beginning with "What is Windows express?"
Email programs as a general rule do not "export" their contents into another mail clients formats. The normal procedure is to "import" the foreign format so there are some obvious questions
What formats can this mail software import?
Are your existing mail accounts IMAP or pop?
you can export email addresses from Thunderbird as CSV which almost all programs can read (including spreadsheets) From the address book select the Tools menu (Alt+ T) and select the export option

Details :
Current : SAP R/3 4.7 (SR1) 1.10 IDES with Kernel 6.20 NU
OS : Windows 2000 AS
DB : Oracle 8.1.7.4.1
Proposed : SAP R/3 4.7 (SR1) 1.10 IDES with Kernel 6.20 NU
OS : Windows 2003 R/2
DB : Oracle 9.2 or 10.2g
I have gone through the sap pdf docs. But still not sure.
My questions are :
1) How to take backup current system data. With conventional db13 or any other way ?
2) After installing CI in new server how to use R/3load to
import the backup data to create DI for new system?
3) Can I use Transport the client-dependent and client-independent data here? If yes, How?
Can you please guide me with detail steps.

2)     As I donot have Oracle 8.1 CDs so first either I have to install Oracle 9i or 10.2g DB software. In that case your first solution Oracle datafile copy will be vapplicable or not? If yes can U pl. give me the detail procedure?
3)     What is the easy option ? using tools like R3load, R3ldctl and R3szchk or using SAP installation disk at the time of DI installation?
4)     Can you please explain step by step of the procedure You must first make an export and then do an installation with the created export set instead of the export set from CD.

Migration from OS/400 (iseries) case in-sensitive OS to UNIX (AIX) case sensitive

Apparently as400 is not case sensitive OS, AIX is so this is causing issues after the migration to UNIX (AIX). What do you recommend for analysis of what will need correction in SAP system - config / tables entries / variants / code? Is there a way to make UNIX files case insensitive?

Since it´s a heterogeneous copy you need to have a certified migration consultant on-site, otherwise you will loose support for the target system (see the FAQ at http://service.sap.com/osdbmigration).
Database is Oracle 10.2.0.2 .(only need to change the os not database)
I´d use the R3load method. This will give you a "free reorganization". There are however other ways of doing that (transportable tablespaces).
Be aware that Solaris on SPARC is a BigEndian platform whereas Linux is implemented as LittleEndian - so if you exchange binary data with other systems they need to be aware of that fact.

Error during system copy

                           I am doing a heterogeneous copy. During the Start Instance phase of the copy the instance fails to start. The services are started, the DB is up too, everything looks fine but still copy is not continuing. Here are my findings.

Just for completion: You need to have a certified migration consultant on-site to do heterogeneous migration, otherwise you'll loose SAP support for the target system (see http://service.sap.com/osdbmigration --> FAQ).
