Hex Characters in Comments Field

Hey there,
I was wondering if I could get an opinion/confirmation about something weird that I'm seeing after installing 5.0 on my Windows XP Home Operating System.
I get pretty elaborate in my Comments field, filling in Mood or "Feel" for each individual song, so I can pull up smart playlists of the exact soundtrack that I want to hear at any given time.
too much information here
So I download iTunes 5.0 and all of the sudden I notice that many of my comments have been overwritten with Hex characters.
Again, too much info here and here.
Do you think this may be related to iTunes' "SoundCheck" functionality? There is some talk on the innerweb about that, but not really confirmed anywhere.
Thoughts?
Would this make any sense?
The links I gave illustrate the issue with screenshots, pie charts and everything except blood samples, so it may help describe what I'm talking about.
Anyhoo, I'd be interested in any opinion/thoughts.
Thanks,
Zac

Is it possible that version 5 is "calling up" the wrong portion of the comment?
Possible? Obviously so. You're seeing it, after all.
Weird as ****? Definitely. It doesn't do that to me.
I don't know what to tell you other than to retag the comments on these files. I don't understand how an MP3 tag could break in that particular way. It's possible that Windows Media Player changed the tag in such a way that it damaged that bit (WMP likes to retag files that it finds without any sort of notification or anything), but it's very odd nevertheless.
There is a script available for "The Godfather" tagging program that will remove these hexadecimal comments. These comments are not actually needed by iTunes anyway, so removing them won't break anything. I don't know much about the godfather and scripting though. • After soundcheck (Hex?) Characters in comments field?!  (Itunes 6)

    Hi,
After running "soundcheck", I noticed that many of the songs have a bunch 'o numbers in the comments field, both in the Itunes browser, and when you "get info". I've rarely added comments, nor have I done anything editing the files beyound sound check. Should I worry? Any thoughts?

They are indeed related to using SoundCheck, but they only actually appear when you have buggy tags.
In other words, if the tags were correct, the SoundCheck process would add these tags in such a way that they wouldn't actually show up in the comments field in iTunes (although other programs might show still them).
However, removing them will not affect the operation of SoundCheck in any way. They're not used again to make SoundCheck actually work. I can go into incredibly long and boring detail on this topic if you're interested, but you're probably not.

  • Hex numbers apppear in comments field, artwork disappears

Other people have posted a similar problem, but I haven't been able to resolve it. In iTunes 7.0.2.16, certain song files, when choosing get info or playing the song, suddenly have a bunch of hex numbers appear in the comments field. For example: 00000000 00000210 0000078C 0000000000720264 00000000 00000000 00000000 00000000 00000000 00000000 00000000 00000000. The artwork associated with the song disappears, as does part of the track number info (for example, song 6 of 11 will become simply song 6). Under the Playback tab, I unchecked Sound Check. I ran AdAware and SpyWareBot. Problem persists.

Are my music files being corrupted somehow? I recently defragged the drive they are on, could that have caused problems? If anyone has any ideas on this, I'd be most appreciative. Clean install of iTunes? Quicktime? Both?

    Hi All,
I went through the beautiful weblog given by Eugene.. https://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/sdn/weblogs?blog=/pub/wlg/4059. I tried to use the code in my transformation logic and here how it looks.. I am using BI 7.0 and it is unicode system..

I am using this to load from PSA to DSO, the info-object name is ZPOTSTFL(Length 3, No master, No text) and source field name is POO_TAG, since in the source the field is a free form text field and it has some hex characters ...we need to keep the free form (like $, lowercase letters, ###. etc..) but we need to eliminate the hex characters with space as it is affecting our load.
I tried this code and it gives me syntax error. In the blog Pedro has suggested to declare some 30 char string and assign that string to info-object name... I don't know that much ABAP can somebody help me with the code??

    Hello Dilip
Out of three two of them are definitley possible. i.e
    1) CU&UC
    2) Upgrade first and then do Unicode Conversion ( 2 different downtimes)
third option is possible with R3 but with BW you need to consult the master guide. ( i am not sure).
you need to decide one of them based on your hardware sizing, database size, Downtime possible.
I would suggest Make a copy of production server. and perform the upgrade and then perform unicode conversion. this whole activity will give you exact timing you need. and possible errors you will face during upgrade and unicode conversion.
    i hope this helps.
    Thanks

  • Problems with the 'Comments' field in iTunes

First, sorry for my english (I'm danish).
I've read a lot of threads here and everywhere else, but can't find a solution for my exact problem. I use Windows Vista and the newest version of iTunes.
Most of my mp3 songs (35.000) are put directly in album folders to the folder 'D:My Music from another computer via a USB drive and the songs already have id3 tag information on them.
I then add the albums to iTunes and most of my tag information is now updated in iTunes. Names, Artists, Genre, Year, everything is okay. By the way the songs have ID3v2.3 tag information. I see that in my Mp3tag v.2.42 application.
But the problem is with the 'Comments' field:
Those tags (originally put to the songs directly in the proberties of the song in Windows Explorer) will simply not transfer to iTunes 'Comments' field. And if I write something in the iTunes 'Comments' field this will not show up in the fields properties in windows Explorer. It looks like the 'Comments' fields in iTunes and in the proberties in the song are not connected at all!?
I then found out, I could let iTunes convert the ID3 codes, but nothing happens except from when using v. 1.0 or 1.1, because then the comments tag are transferres, but unfortunately all the tags will only show 30 characters!!!
And there's also a different story:
A few albums though are put directly on my computer by using iTunes to import the CD. These songs have ID3 v.2.2 tags, so I guess iTunes import files in that format?
And here it's a little different story. If I put comment data directly to the file proberties in Windows Explorer (after the CD's been imported to iTunes), the comments will show up in iTunes, but only as several 0 and 1 digits! On the other hand, if I put information directly in iTunes 'Comments' field it wil show up correctly in the file proberties! But it's only a few songs/albums that are handled that way.
Well, bottom's line, I want to see my comments tags (which are allready there in the song's proberties) when I browse my music in my folders in Windows Explorer and I want to see the exact same comments if I go to browse my music in iTunes. That should not be a problem ... but it is not ...
Can I please get a solution or at least an explanation, and hopefully in not too tecnical terms.

I, too, hope someone will answer this! I am hoping to catalog my entire CD collection in iTunes and I want to include the storage box number somehow, thinking that "comments" would be a good place to do so. If I cannot do that I'll try to find a program other than iTumes to do it. Does anyone have any suggestions on this topic? ...perhaps I need to open a new thread?
    THANKS!
    Doug

  • Sender IDOC with HEX characters

    Hi Chaps,
I have a situation i.e. my sender IDOC is sending some HEX characters in the text fields, XI should interpret them and convert it into text fields to the target system.
Could some one guide me on the best approach for this?
    Your inputs are highly appreciable.
    Regards,
    Vijaya

    Hi,
You will need to loop at the string array and read it character by character. You can convert from HEX to unicode using the following line of code in your UDF -
    char c = (char) Integer.parseInt("str", 16);
where str is the four digit HEX character at i'th position.
    Hope this helps.
    Regards,
    Riyaz

  • Eliminating Hex Characters in Data

Is there a way to search for specific hex characters in the database?
I have a phone number field of type varchar2, which has some hex characters I need to remove.
When I do query I see the following record.
         PHONE     DUMP(PHONE)
    1     +001(718)380 4160     Typ=1 Len=18: 43,48,48,49,40,55,49,56,41,51,56,48,32,52,49,54,48,14
    2     +001(225)292 2812     Typ=1 Len=18: 43,48,48,49,40,50,50,53,41,50,57,50,32,50,56,49,50,14
The hex character isn't visible in this post, but it is very much there. What's the mechanism to find this specific character? I want to find characters like '0x0E' and '0x01'
I hope I am being clear in my request. The objective is to ensure that none of these affect the XML transformation mechanism.

you can display the non-printable characters using ASCIISTR() function

  • User Comment field available for reporting?

User Comment field available for reporting?
When doing custom reporting against requests with reportable dictionaries we have a user request to also include the user comments.  How do I reference / point to the comments field for a request?

If you are referring to the comments which are added in the Comments and History section of a requisition, this information is not migrated to the datamart and is not reportable.
If, on the other hand, you are referring to a comments field that you have included in a dictionary on the service form, that information will be available in the datamart so long as that dictionary has been made reportable.

  • How to read the comment field of the Leave of absence Workflow.

    Hi,
I have attached a custom Workflow template  to the
Standard class "CL_HRASR00_WF_PROCESS_OBJECT" and  event "TRIGGERED" for my Personal leave of absence approval.
During the Workflow step, once the approval goes to the final approval step and it is there in the Benifit Administrator's inbox (Portal) for approval, the Benift Admin is having an option of Withdrawing the process(Withdraw Process button). After filling the comments field, once he clicks this withdraw button the standard class "CL_HRASR00_WF_PROCESS_OBJECT" event "WITHDRAWN" gets triggered and it calls a separate workflow.
I need to capture this comment in the new Workflow but not able to do the same.
Can anyone let me know how can I do this. The event container does have any parameter to pass this value to the workflow container. And since the Step_Object GUID also changes I am unable to read it in the second workflow.
Looking for some real help as this has become critical for the project.
    Thanks is andvace.

    Hi All,
Thanks for your reply Trevor, but I guess you misunderstood my question. What I am not looking for is not the absence data. Basically I need to capture the comments put in by the Benifit administrator in the Leave of absence application form (Personal or Maternity/child care ), incase when he goes for withdrawing the Application submitted by the Employee.
To elaborate it functionality step by step...
    1. An employee logs on to portal and submits a LOA application with a few mandatory field ( Commencing date,Returning Date, Reason).
This kicks of a Workflow say WF1 attached to
    ABAP Class- CL_HRASR00_WF_PROCESS_OBJECT,  Event- TRIGGERED.
    2. Then after executing a few tasks to retrive data it goes to the Manager for approval. Once the manager appoves it goes to the Benifit Administrator.
    3. The Benifit Administrator can approve the application or has an option of withdrawing it.
    4. In case the Benifit Administrator goes for Withdrawal, after putting some comments in the form, it triggers the Event-WITHDRAWN of ABAP Class-CL_HRASR00_WF_PROCESS_OBJECT.
    5. This event in turn starts a new Workflow WF2.
    6. In this Workflow WF2 I need to pull in the comments put in by the Benifit Admin.
How can I pull this comment?

  • Is there a way to simultaneously add text to Comments field for multiple files?

Is there a way to simultaneously add text to Comments field for multiple files? I know I can use Option+Comman+i to bring up the Inspector window but it doesn't have a Comments field. For example, in iTunes you can select multiple files and change metadata for any field simultaneously and easily yet when it comes to the Comments field in the Finder, this seems to be missing.
In our production environment, Comments field is important because we place notes about what drive the file originated then when it gets transferred to LTO-6 tape via LTFS, we can quickly trace it in the event we needed to recreate the hard drive. Because tape archiving is linear, we can't store all of the files on the same tape.
We've tried using Apple's Automator but it too seems to not have a way to batch change text in the Comments field. Any help is appreciated.

    What is "order data"?

  • Id3 tags notes or comments field

I have MP3 files that contain ID3 tags with Comments fields that contain information. When inserted into iTunes library these show up with a blank Notes field. I don't see a Comments field available, so I assume that Notes is the label given that same field by iTunes. However, the content is not displayed.
By the way, I access those fields by right clicking on the song, picking Get Info, then going to the Info tab.
Any clues as to how to get the Notes/Comments field imported or displayed correctly?

    Notes? I don't have a Notes field -- I DO have a Comment field.
iTunes support for Comments fields is spotty. It does not support the short description field according to the ID3 specification; maybe it uses an older spec -- to be honest I'm not familiar will all of the ID3 specs, since there are several versions and they all have differences.

  • View whole annotations/comments field in Pages 5?

Is it possible to view the whole annotations/comments field in Pages 5? It's so annoying if you have to scroll through the annotations!!

Ditto. This is sad.  The app changes and loses features. The old app was pretty nice. The new one is pretty but not nice.
What is even more pretty (as in pretty sad) is that I have to use MS Word now more often because of Pages 5.x) to get things done... minor things like identifying the author of a document.
Hard to have faith in this company and products when they leave you swinging in the breeze with half baked products that have so much potential but like raw cookie dough, can give you an upset stomach after you commit to a plate full.
Put another way, to switch to using my iPad for work I have to be able to rely on Pages on my Mac and my iPad to not leave me swinging in the breeze like this (and this is one example of many many examples).
I really don't mind paying for Pages, even out of my own pocket, but it has to live up to some minimal Pages 4 standard.

  • Making the comments field Required in the Workitem

    Hello,
I have a GP Application wherein the initiator fills out a form which goes to the Approver using Visual Approval Callable Object.........now when the approver opens the workitem he sees the information entered by the initiator and a comments field at the bottom......we want to make this field required for them.......how can we achieve this.....while creation of the Visual Approval Callable Object i see the comments as a output parameter with the 'Is Required' checkbox option....but it is disabled and does not allow you to select it......Please help...
Any help would be highly appreciated...
    Regards,
    Anil

    Hi Anil,
Standard Visual Approval CO doesnt work like that.
Either you can create your own CO.
    OR
i can suggest you as follows, but it is making little complicated process.
    1. Create one Action with Business Logic callable object, which will check for Comment EQ space or not and have 2 different states.
    a. If Comments is blank, Go back to Approval Action
    b. If Comments is entered, Proceed for further actions.
    2. Set this action as target for Approval Action.
    Hope this helps you.
    Thanks,
    Tejaswini

  • Update Rule routine to get last 4 characters of a field

I am aware I can do this using a formula.  However, can someone assist in writing the routine which gets the last four characters of a field.  The field is part of the COMM_STRUCTURE? Thanks

    Hi,
For determining the length of the field, you have to use first the statement DESCRIBE so you get the figure into a variable (I do not have a SAP system right now, so errors can occur in the following):
    <b>data length type i.
    describe comm_structure-field length into length.
    length = length - 4.
    result = comm_structure-field+(length)(4).</b>
However, please shift your field is RIGHT JUSTIFIED earlier than using these statements. Please consider the instruction SHIFT. That will insure you that you get the right characters.
