Hey Adobe!

I am a licensed user of Acrobat Standard 7.0. My computer crashed several months ago, and I have been trying....and TRYING...to re-load Acrobat, after contacting CS. I was sent an ftp download link that didn't work....and your 'chat' is always 'busy'.
CAN SOMEONE PLS HELP ME GET MY ACROBAT BACK?!
I am running out of patience with your "CS options". I am also disappointed in Adobe; I recall a much better CS experience several years ago.....makes me think twice about any future business dealings.

Unfortunately, Adobe generally does not live here. This is a user-to-user forum.
If you provide information about what you have tried we might be able to help, but your post gives no information. You first need the CD or copy of the program. Generally Acrobat has to be loaded as part of the CS package if you purchased it that way. There is possibly a work-around, but generally you might have to check the CS forum for such information. If you had a license issue (number of licenses installed), you will have to call Adobe on that to resolve it. If you need the contact info, it is generally on the Adobe site or ask here to get a good feel from those who have used the numbers as to the best numbers to use. However, let us try to help figure out the problem first.
If you do not have the CD (bad move, even with a download you should make a CD), you may be able to get a replacement from Adobe if you are registered. If not, they generally won't talk to you about it. It may be that they no longer provide them, though they may give you a FTP link for a download. You will still need the S/N.
If you have the product and are just having installation problems, then let's work on that. First, we would need to know your OS and such. If with the crash you upgraded to a new OS, you may have to upgrade AA7 also. AA7 may work on VISTA or Win7 if you are lucky, but there is no support for those platforms and many have not been successful with the installation and operation of AA7 there.

  • Hey Adobe... Why no startup screen for Photoshop CS4? And about those interfaces...

    Hey Adobe..
Kind of like the startup screens available on everything in CS4 Premium but Photoshop. Why not on Photoshop? I think it's pretty handy with the links and recent items lists..
And ( maybe a little whiny here as I have been battling the flu for days now :) is it just me, or does anyone else think the new interfaces look, well, have to be honest, kinda flat, clunky and graceless? I mean, sure they work ok with lots of bells and whistles, but honestly, they look like some stripped down old shareware program interface. Pretty humble for design software. Like paying a premium price for a new Corvette where the only available paint color is primer grey. Maybe somebody oughta offer skins :)

    >
"As far as work flow, rather than distracting, it's certainly easier and more functional to be able to locate something quickly with some color or design clues rather than search for something specific in a group of flat black text and links and icons on a sea of featureless grey."
Here's something you may not have ever consciously considered, Mike, though I'll bet you know it intrinsically:
Despite the fact that color and value can be an eye attractant, much of what makes for smooth, almost unconscious workflow is
    far more
dependent upon consistency of position than the distinctiveness of color, value, icons or text labels. This isn't just some UI philosophy I'm making up; smarter people than Iand entire institutionshave made deeply detailed studies of this.
Two things you can experiment with that will help you notice what I'm talking about (if you've somehow never noticed it before):
    Test 1:
Are there bookmarks or folders full of bookmarks in your browser windows' bookmarks bar that have been in the same place for a long time? Take a minute or two and rearrange them. Maybe add an empty dummy folder or two to the left side of your bookmarks bar. Leave them that way for a few days, so that you kind of forget you rearranged them. I'll bet you'll find that when you move to click on a bookmark you use somewhat regularly, your hand will unconsciously start to move your cursor to where it
    used
to be. I'll bet it takes upwards of a dozen or more instances of traveling to the bookmarks' new location before your brain re-naturalizes to subconsciously finding that bookmark in its new position. This is because it's easier for our brains to process a location, rather than having to read and interpret a text label every time it wants to perform a function like this.
    Test 2:
Like most of us, I'm sure you have your Palettes/Panels in different applications set just the way you like them. And if you've dug into the app, you've saved that Workspace set-up so you can return things to where you like them in the event of a reformat, or reinstall, or preferences re-set.
Go ahead and move all your Panels/Palette to significantly different positions. Save this workspace, and use it exclusively for a few days instead of the set up you're used to. And again, give it a day or three, so you kind of forget you rearranged your workspace. Your brain will find it a bit of a struggle to negotiate the app's tools and functions because now you're forcing it to constantly hunt for and make a new interpretation about where everything is located. To do that, your eys first have to scan and hunt for the icon or text label of the tool or function you want to use. Then it has to interpret that visual signal that then tells your voluntary motor control "Oh, that's where it is, that's what it is, let's move our hand so the mouse cursor goes there."
That "sea-of-featureleless-gray-with-black-text," as you call it, serves a very important function precisely because of its unobtrusiveness. It gets the heck out of the way and allows your eyeballs and the analytical part of your brain room to focus on the
    real
task at hand, that is: To make the best adjustments you can to the image you're working on. And that's not even mentioning the fact that a bright or colored interface can significantly skew your interpretation of color and value (because of the brain & retina's persistence of vision effect) where it really matters: In the image you're working on.
The interface may look different, but give yourself and your (almost)autonomic motor control some honest time to get used to it. As long as you set-up your workspace to suit your needs, I'm willing to bet that soon enough you won't even have to think about looking for differentiating color or reading text labels on a tool...you'll just navigate where you need to, almost without thinking about it.

  • Hey, Adobe? A simple, heartfelt request from an accessibility driven designer

First - I adore Captivate, anyone wishing to troll the product please start your own thread.
Now - my  heartfelt request - which has already been sent a a feature request. (I ask those who also work in accessibility environments to add this request from their accounts as well, the more requests, the better our chances for the feature)
Tab ordering for the buttons was an awesome upgrade, but why did you stop halfway to perfect? Flash allows the developer to set the tab index for ALL the objects on the screen - text, image, animation, movie clip, navigation controls, etc) by simply assigning a number in the accessibility menu:
Add this to Captivate and almost every workaround and kluged fix (including seven tab, ten entry per tab conditional actions) I have had to slap on an otherwise simple and elegant project files disappear. Rollovers and feedback boxes are simply inserted into the reading order without a fuss. Long winded and boring slide notes that are read without pause by screen readers are replaced by easily digested elements that can:
Provide multiple ways to operate the technology and retrieve information so that users can choose alternatives based on their physical capabilities.
Provide support for the assistive technology (AT) that people with disabilities use for improved accessibility.
Ensure that all users have equivalent access to all the information conveyed.
In short, we can give the user a much higher quality, more engaging an interactive experience (read: not just a text equivalent, although it could still be an option) that better reflects the capabilities of eLearning, regardless of their sight,  hearing and/or mobility impairments.
If you think this might be valuable, send a feature request to Adobe.
If you're one of the Adobe folks assigned to monitor this forum - how valuable would this fix be when marketing this to a government agency anywhere in the world that insists on accessible materials?
    Justenuf

    Hello,
Just read your initial post regarding accessibility. I know your post is a year old but I would also like to echo your opinion that Captivate 8 should include some or all of the accessibility tools available in Flash(including some advanced actions to control name attributes for the screen reader). We have just begun using Captivate, coming from a Flash background. We will continue to use Flash for projects that do not require mobile deployment but use Captivate for the rest while gradually moving away from Flash (unfortunately). In my limited time using Captivate, I find that Flash can be made so much more accessible than Captivate, which is really disappointing given that it is from the same company. Maybe that opinion will change as I get used to Captivate but I have my doubts.
Anyway, one thing I do like in Captivate is the fact that a screen reader automatically reads the text in the "Accessibility" window (which should really be named the "screen reader text" window).
I have a couple of questions I wonder if you can answer:
    1. Is there a way to make the "Accessibility" and "Tab Index" windows stay up all of the time without having to close it to get to another button, object or screen? It is very annoying to have to close it every time to go and check on the name of a button so that I can put it in the correct tab order (same goes for the "accessibility" text window). You shouldn't have to click on the stage (to take focus away from a button) to get access to the "tab index" window.
    2. How do you make quiz questions keyboard accessible? I cannot seem to do this and without that functionality, Captivate fails as a tool to create accessible products.
    Thanks,
    dave

  • Hey Adobe, are you listening?

I have read al the 1.1 posts and yes, I know it will be out when it is ready. I am very annoyed that an update to support the Mark III was not released in the interim. I do not want to convert my files to DNG. It's my choice and I choose not to.
I am giving this another week then going back to Aperture.

    >Then you are just shooting yourself in the foot. DNG is a perfectly viable interim solution. --
    Wolf Eilers
It may be technically, but not if you have a photo editor that wants the original raw file. Then it becomes a workflow issue and you may have just blown the assignment.
    >You do not HAVE to delete the original NEF! --
    Jao
You'd be smart not to. That may be needed for archival purposes. However, having two work streams -- one native RAW+XMP, the other DNG does complicate version control issues.
    >In an ideal world of course we'd have a Universal RAW format that was acceptable to everyone, but in the real world that just aint going to happen - it's called 'commercial competitiveness'. --
    Alan Ingham
You might be right. Camera makers have traditionally secured their markets through core proprietary technology (lens-mounts comes to mind). However they've also been open to some universal standards -- especially peripheral product (ye olde screw thread cable releases, filter threads). At one time there was even M39 & M42. However I believe proprietary RAW data rests somewhere much closer to the core interests of camera makers and there is strong resistance to just GIVING that away.
However, since camera makers have taken on the responsibility for film -- for example how saturated the tone (Kodak, Fuji, Agfa), how wide the dynamic range (transparency vs negatives), and how clumpy the noise (ISO equivalents) -- they also hold the responsibility for managing those expectations. I'm not sure that's a responsibility they want in perpetuity.
At this point, it's still in the hands of the camera makers. DNG is generally not well received outside of an Adobe workflow, and the few camera makers that do support "in-camera DNGs" don't make up any substantial part of the market. The fallback option is native RAW format + XMP, but as more people invest time and money in workflow production tools, the camera makers are pinched to find a solution on two fronts:
The first: Managing their roadmap to obsolete product.
The second: DNG will have matured enough to become the most practical container choice.
    >However, I find that in about 10% of my images that Capture does a better job. --
    Foster Irwin
You are not alone in that observation. It could be IQ ... but it could also be the ease by which that IQ is achieved. While you can modify presets in ACR and LR, it's a big obstacle for many photo graphists to get a series of images to the same place that Capture, Bibble, NX can right off the start.
    >Since the RAW file is the digital equivalent of the film negative (IMO), it seems unethical for any camera mfgr. to make the RAW file proprietary in any way. --
    Mel Lammers
How would that be any different from software companies using SDKs or private maker notes to keep you from using your layered TIFF files or possibly DNGs with other tools? Is it unethical to use LR or PS? It's our data ... but the key is held by the software mfgr. :~)

  • Hey, Adobe, don't mess with MY desktop!!

I installed Lightroom 4.1 today.  I'm a Windows 7 user.  It's MY desktop.  The install messed with MY  desktop in two ways:
    1. It unpacked things to my desktop.  While it was nice enough to delete the unpacked files when it was done, but if something had gone wrong there would be this cruft on MY desktop.  Put the temporary files in %TEMP%.  That's where they are supposed to go.
    2. You created an icon on MY desktop without asking MY permission.  If every product I ever installed put an icon on my desktop, I'd need two big monitors.  Just ask.  Thankfully, most products do.  You didn't.
    Chuck

I kind of agree with you, but there are many, many more irritating things applications do.  In this case, deleting a desktop icon or folder are fairly easy, as you can see them (and there's no risk in removing them).
What annoy me more are programs that
load a load of trash at boot-up to check for updates (they could equally well do that when they run, don't slow down my boot-up)
leave stuff in memory to speed the launch of a program (unless I run it very very often, I don't want that)
leave services running when the corresponding program isn't running (Apple, are you listening?)
set tasks to run at regular intervals just to check - who knows what
add extra toolbars to other programs (unless you uncheck easy-to-miss opt-outs when installing)
Bad examples here: Sun java (update checker), Google (update checker), Adobe Flash, Apple (stuff related to itunes, ipods, ipads etc left running 24/7), Nikon (update service).  If you don't weed them out (with msconfig, autoruns or whatever) then you find boot-up takes extra minutes, and half a gig of memory is taken up with wholly idle software.

  • HEY ADOBE!!!! ANY PLANS ON MAKING BRIDGE CS3 OPERATIONAL!!!!!

This is by far the biggest piece of useless software I have ever used!!! I will not even be using it and when I go back to it, I have a message saying it has crashed!! Refresh rates are awful, I think you should refund the price of bridge to everyone or at least buy us a program that WORKS like maybe Extensis Portfolio or ACDSee Pro. I've used alpha and beta programs that weren't this bad!!!! TRY LISTENING TO YOUR CUSTOMERS!!!!

I struggle from time to time with Bridge also but I've found that if I'm patient with it, it tends to be more stable.
What I mean is, Bridge seems to need to have a minute or two to sort out its complicated brain upon loading. If I push it too fast (trying to open folders which, when they don't open, I click on another one), then the program locks up and I have to force close it and open again.
Now I sit and wait a minute or so until the folder directory spills out in the left panel, then I go to work.
In XP it tends to be stable, but a bit slower (XP only uses 3GB of my 8GB memory). In 64 bit Vista, it's more stable, interestingly, because I have the full 8 GB available. Although reportedly Photoshop can only address 3GB, it still is noticeably faster. Bridge in particular.
It will still crash in Vista if I push it. But otherwise, it's very stable. It's just a matter of getting to know it's sluggish personality.
Plus I really like Bridge over Lightroom because I can select 20 camera raw files (CR2) which opens the Raw dialogue in Photoshop. I process them all, and they save in about 90 seconds, then on to the next batch.
I worked a bit with Lightroom but it seemed (even though I do have dual monitors) that I could only really work on one image at a time, so that means repeat steps for each image, which are done in batch mode in Photoshop's raw dialogue.
What I mean is, I can do batch changes in Lightroom, but in PS, the thumbnails are there in the RAW dialogue so I can individually adjust without a lot of trouble, then save the entire batch. In LR, correct me if I'm wrong please, I haven't worked with it much, I haven't found a way to work that quickly.
Do any of you use Lightroom for processing large batches of images at once, in a more efficient way than I've discovered? I'd prefer to use it, but Bridge, when it's stable, works so well for the way I workflow.
    good luck
    jim

  • Hey Adobe Team- is there a rationale behind not having the "auto-save" feature in illustrator? It would be a VERY helpful option :)

We have had several issues with illustrator just "shutting down" before we could save the item. Which causes much "double work". So we would LOOOOOOVE the auto save feature you have in photoshop.

I'd suggest that you look for the cause of the crash first. It really shouldn't crash that often!
Illustrator does not have an auto save function, unfortunately. Try to get into the habit of saving regularly. For extra safety, use something like Autosavior as mentioned above. Or if you want the additional confidence of using something that's been reviewed by Apple then you could use:
    Ai Auto Save

  • Hey adobe.. flash is full of bugs.  (report 0).

  • Hey Adobe... I'll trade you Contribute CS5 for Soundbooth CS5

While I can understand why Contribute is included - it's actually an app that I have my clients buy if it's going to be used in any of my projects (or I'll buy it for them.) I don't personally use it as part of my workflow as a Web developer, SoundBooth, on the other hand is something I'd find useful. Even though I could certainly use Audacity for quick edits - the 'round-trip' workflow between SoundBooth and Flash make it handy to have around - I find it annoying that it's gone missing.

    I'll throw in Catalyst. (Maybe)

  • HEY ADOBE, WHY IS CS6 KILLING ME?

I'm very unhappy with the performance of CS6. CS5.5 was OK with my setup, but CS6 is virtually unusable.  I thought that if I upgraded my video card, I'd get decent performance, so I got a GeForce 580 (and a new power supply).  The improvement was only marginal.
What makes the product unusable is that EVERY TIME I MAKE THE SLIGHTEST CHANGE, AE has to do this big screen update which takes up to 15 seconds.  IT usually causes the screen to flicker (showing what's behind AE on the desktop.  I was getting this flicker even BEFORE I installed the new video card.) Then I have to click the "MAXIMIZE" button continuously until a click gets through on an idle, and finally I can do something else.  As you can imagine, this makes for pretty slow going.
I've already checked to make sure I have the latest driver and the
    latest update to AE.(11.0.1.12)
Is this just a matter of not having a computer thats fast enough?  Or could something else be happening that I could fix without getting a new box?
I don't have a super computer, but its at least average, I'd say.  Here's the setup:
AMD Phenom 9500 Quad Core Processor 2.20 Ghz
    8 GB ram
    Windows 7 64 Bit, SP1
    Operating System:
    Windows 7 Professional, 64-bit (Service Pack 1)
