HEY APPLE! What are upgrade policy plans for new systems shipping with 10.4

I just ordered a brand new Xserver, thinking that there would be some policy in place for brand new computers shipping with 10.4, to get the new version of OSX Leopard Server (without having to buy a retail copy) - however to my surprise, there is nothing currently in place.
Will there be an upgrade policy soon for users who have just ordered new computers, currently shipping with 10.4??? Or should we return recently ordered items, and stop ordering new systems until they start shipping with 10.5?

Assumptions such as this one are often a recipe for disappointment and/or for extra expenses; I've certainly learned to be cautious with these.
In this case, there is a policy that has been in place (AFAIK) since the Leopard announcement.
For details on and requirements of the Leopard upgrade policy, do read the [Mac OS X Up To Date|http://www.apple.com/macosx/uptodate> web site.
Those folks outside the Leopard upgrade window that are upgrading to Leopard (and that don't have a separately-purchased Right-to-Upgrade) will be purchasing and ordering the upgrade. You may end up purchasing an iLife upgrade, too — if you're using it, and not already at the current release — as Mac OS X and Mac OS X Server upgrades apparently do not include an iLife upgrade.

  • What are the best options for creating a PDF with bookmarks and a hyperlinked TOC?

What I'm interested in is whether or not there is an alternate process I could follow that would side step Word 2011's inability to export to PDF with bookmarks and hyperlinked TOCs. How do you create PDF documents with bookmarks and hyperlinked TOCs in your documents?
    Some background:
In Word 2010 and 2013 for Windows (and I'm sure this applies to older versions as well), you can export documents to a PDF file format where the exported file will carry over the bookmarks and hyperlinked table of contents. Specifically, by making specific text headers, will appear in the final PDF file as bookmarks on the side (see image taken from Adobe's website).
Regarding the table of contents, using Word's built in Table of Contents feature successfully ports the ability to navigate to a specific section by clicking on its chapter in the table of contents to the finished PDF file.
I've read several forum discussions that say it's not possible to do this from Word 2011, so my current solution is to just finish all documents on a Windows machine (either with parallels or a separate computer). The alternate process flow of creating a word document, exporting it to PDF, then rehyperlinking everything in Acrobat is just too time consuming to consider.

    Hi, beejasaurus
I found a possible kluge from this discussion here
    https://forums.adobe.com/thread/1008480
Create the hyperlinks in Word, save the file
Open that file with Pages, export as PDF.
The links work from that PDF.
Note, I did not try this with TOC but it worked with hyperlinks embedded in the Word document

  • My plan for new FCS install with questions

End-of-fiscal-year budgetary windfall enables a giant leap from a G4 running FCP 4.5 to a spankin' new 8-Core machine for FCS2. (Hello Motion!).
I'd like to identify any "gotchas" in a new FCS install before I jump into it. Your advice and comments from personal experience are appreciated.
Here's my plan, based on what I've read here, and a couple of questions:
    1. Update to latest available OS from whatever version is on the machine.
    2. Run installer from disks - repair permissions.
    3. Update FCS and Quicktime, if any updates are available - repair permissions.
    4. Connect to old machine via Firewire target mode - transfer project files, plug ins, and any universal applications that might be useful.
    5. Copy media from my old, external scratch drive to the internal eSata drive I plan to use as the new scratch - seems like a good time to repair permissions once more.
    6. Launch FCP, set up preferences and drives, open an old project and reconnect media.
I'm starting with existing DV media and timelines, but part of our studio upgrade includes new Sony EX-1 cameras, so we'll soon be working with XDCam files. I haven't decided which quality level yet.
Do the new mixed-format timelines work as advertised? Lots of legacy material to deal with.
Is there any advantage in capturing XDCam and DV footage to separate drives?
I'd like to repurpose my old external drive for automatic back-ups. Is the Time machine working well for everybody?
That's enough to wrap my brain around right now. Thanks in advance from a long-time lurker. Always great discussions here.
    Rob A.

    Rob,
Congratulations on the new toy! You gotta love those year end surpluses.
FWIW, I think that you are on the right track. I would second the other response that said to only migrate project files. Everything else needs to be installed, especially since you are going from PowerPC to Intel.
    internal eSata drive
This just made me laugh, it's kind of like having a "Hot" water heater. Anyway, the "e" in "eSATA" stands for "external" so having an internal external drive would just be strange.
Do the new mixed-format timelines work as advertised?
This is one of the most misunderstood features about FCS2. You have always been able to mix media on a timeline, and then render. The trick was that you had to choose what kind of timeline you were going to mix your media in. You remember on the old version you would open up a new project, bring in your media only to realize that you forgot to change the easy setup to the new media type. So now you have to delete "Sequence 1", change the easy setup, open a new sequence and everything was good. In the new version you open up a project, get your media, drop it on the timeline and FCP says, "hey, that media is different from your sequence settings, would you like me to change them for you?" Then you can go ahead an d mix media, and render.
Moral of this story, choose your sequence settings according to what the majority of your media in the sequence will be because you will have to render anything that doesn't match.
Is there any advantage in capturing XDCam and DV footage to separate drives?
    No.
    Hope this helps,
    K

  • Help with plan for new system

I was hoping to get a little expert advice on the system that I am planning on building. I was looking at picking up the "MSI Z68A-GD80 (B3)" motherboard, along with an Intel 510 SSD 120 gb drive. I am planning on partitioning the SSD into two drives, one for the max 64 gb ISRT cache, and the other with the rest of the space for the win7 prof 64 bit OS drive.
So my question is if the splitting of the SSD is possible like I mentioned?
and next, what should I pick for a data/app drive? I am not sure whether to go with my usual 2 drive raid-0 setup, or simply get one drive since I will be using ISRT. Any suggestions?
Another note, after I read about booting from USB devices, I plan on skipping the floppy drive
    Thank you for any input.

Booting of USB device can be set as a priority in BIOS.
SSD is like any HDD, just do the partitioning during setup.
RAID wise, it is up to your preference. Speed or Mirroring or Balance?

  • What are the payment plans Apple has for international buyers

what are the payment plans Apple has for international buyers

There are none.  If you want to buy an iPhone, then you'll need to go and buy one from an Apple store in your country or one of the phone carriers in your country that offer iPhones.  If you live in a country that does not have an Apple store, then go to an Apple re-seller.  You may be able to purchase online if there is an Apple store online for your country.
    These are your alternatives.

  • What is the best plan for me? *please read details*

My parents are getting me a 4S for my birthday but I have to pay for the plan.
    - I live in Alberta
    - I will use less than 500MB data
    - I have many friends in different provinces I will be texting
    - I never talk on the phone for more than 200 min a month
    - I'm currently with Koodo
    - I will be in Costa Rica for 4 months in the new year; I am probably gonna get a SIM card when I'm down there.
What's the best service provider, and what's the best plan for me?

    Thanks, Meg.
So would a Verizon device-only iPhone 5S still be the better choice if I plan to use GSM in the US (and not the CDMA part of the Verizon iPhone which would lock me to their service).
Ideally, if I had the device in my hand, I would like to use TMobile's prepaid plan (40$ for unlimited talk, text, and 500 mb of data). Upon getting the phone, couldn't I just discard the included verizon simcard (without my activation) and just pop in the TMobile SIM card since the Verizon device-only instrument comes with the GSM unlocked? ( In other words, I don't have to ask Verizon to unlock the GSM part of the iPhone 5S )
Also, if this is what my goal is (to use a prepaid Tmobile sim), I could just buy an unlocked sim-free iPhone 5S from Apple, right? I dont have to ask for a Verizon device-only iPhone 5S if I want nothing to do with Verizon or use their CDMA service? I'm guessing a device-only iPhone 5s (regardless of carrier label) is the same as unlocked sim-free iphone 5S?

  • What is least expensive plan for smartphone and wifi hotspot?

What is least expensive plan for smartphone and wifi hotspot?  I would probably want 1 -2GB or so of use for the hotspot, to allow access for my laptop when needed.  I don't need a lot of minutes, really my usage is 100 - 200 mins/month,  no or very little text, and some date use from phone, maybe 1 GB?
    Thanks for any ideas!

  • : HEY APPLE: WHERE ARE THE NANO TUBES

Hey Apple, where are my tubes... why are they taking soo long!
    ***

I suspect the delay with the nano tubes and some of the other accessories is secrecy.
Apple are becoming more and more secretive about every product release and therefore the best way to protect the details of the nano was to talk to as few people about it as possible.
I suspect Apple will have discussed the potential production of a new case for a new iPod with a 3rd party supplier (manufactured for Apple), but they did not see the details of the new iPod nano until it was launched.
Apple probably did a photoshop mockup of what the nano tubes would look like, but I bet there was none in existance when the nano was introduced by Steve.
On that day, I suspect the nano tube manufacturer got the final design and details of the nano and tubes and then had to start production, etc.
    That would explain the delay.
If the information had been passed to the nano tube manufacturer say 4 weeks before the nano was released, it is a sure bet that the design and info would have been on the internet before it's release.
It's unfortunate that Apple has to work like this, but I think it will be the case in future.

  • Hey Apple when are you going to fix the problems with IOS 8.3??

Hey Apple when are you going to fix the problems with IOS 8.3??
    Message is working weird.
I don't have internet service when I'm away from my WiFi, because my phone won't use LTE now.
Should I wait for a IOS 8.3.1 update or reset my phone to factory and start over?
If there's a fix coming when will we see it?
    (I'm using iPhone6 plus)
I've tried everything else to fix the problems I'm having. Soft restart. Hard restart. Used your chat line. Called Verizon. Reset network settings.... Help!!!!!
I've posted on the Apple Communities about all this and I've sent in a couple of bug reports.

Didn't they already have you do that? If you haven't, yes, you should restore your phone as new and test.
