Hey. I've got a 3rd gen nano that I've just bought, used. When I plug it into mt PC, (win7) and open I tunes, I can't sync my library and under 'devices' in the 'file' colume it acknowledges this ipod but only to transfer purchaces. sync not available
I've got a 3rd gen ipod nano that i've just bought 'used'. When i plug it in to my PC, (win7) I can't sync my i tunes library and under 'devices' in the 'file' column it acknowledges this ipod, but sync and backup are not available. Only have 'transfer purchaces from....' which does nothing for me. any help would be greatly appreciated
Sorted it out. Is the iPod that connects an iPod touch? If not that does not mean anything since iOS devices like iPod touch, iPhone and iPad use different drivers than other iPods. -

You don't import photos from the iPhone to your computer using iTunes.

Note this only applies to photos taken with the iPhone. Any photos you previously added to your iPhone using iTunes should be copied from old computer to new computer. -
When I connect my iPhone to my PC iTunes no longer automatically opens. And when I open it myself, my phone does not even appear under devices. Help please!!
Things to try:
Try resetting your phone (press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button together for at least ten seconds until the Apple logo appears. When you see the Apple logo let go of both buttons and your iPhone will reboot.
Try a new sync cable (often the problem)
Make sure you phone is adequately charged
Make sure you are using latest version of iTunes -
Any decent car mounts for the 3rd gen nano that are not a total rip?
The only one I find so far is Proclip and there is not a chance I'm paying for that. Their separate mount and clip system just seems to me to be a way to gouge you twice. You have to buy the nano clip for $25 which by itself is useless until you buy the dash mount to connect it to for another $30. Add in $10 shipping and you are paying $75 for 2 pieces of about 10 cents worth of injection molded plastic and some adhesive tape. Gee can I please?

WHat do I do if my iPhone 4S won't sync to my macbook pro, and my phone doesn't seem to upgrade to itunes11.1? The upgrade should be on the iTunes upgrade page, but there's no icon.

My iTunes music is on an old laptop which I cannot access. What options do I have to play my music on the apple devices including a new Nano that I have just bought?
The files that weren't inside the media folder on the original machine need to be copied over to exactly the same paths as they had on the source machine. See this thread for an ongoing discussion of a similar problem. See also this post on migrating the iTunes library.

3rd Gen nano (RED) screen issue
I've just got my 3rd Gen nano (RED) but it seems that there is an issue with the backlight of the screen. Initially, when I tried to charge it with my MacBook with the USB cable, it didn't charge at all. I have to plug it into the power adapter to get it charging.
Also, I have to press the screen to get the backlight to "work" otherwise I can hardly make out what's on the screen.
What can this be? Also, is it a case of the iPod being fully drained of power? Please help! I'm getting this as a Christmas present for my girlfriendTo address the charging issue, make sure you are connecting the ipod to a high powered USB port (2.0) for it to properly charge on your computer. Often these ports are on the back of the computer, not on the front or the keyboard.
Yes, if your ipod is very low on battery charge the backlight will not come on.
Also, you should not have to touch the screen to turn on the backlight. In fact if it comes on when you touch the screen it is defective. It is only supposed to come on when you touch the clickwheel.
You should probably check to see what you have your backlight settings set to on the ipod. I have mine set to 10 seconds, so it comes on when I touch the click wheel and the light turns itself off after 10 seconds. If this is the behavior you see on your ipod, it is working fine. If you want to extend the time it stays on, you can set it to stay on longer under the settings. be advised the backlighting does use battery power, and your playlife may be affected by having the backlight on a lot. -
3rd gen nano locked in connect mode
I have a 3rd gen Nano that was disconnected while charging without being ejected. Now it thinks it is still connected and I can't get it to do anything. I have tried resetting, plugging back in and trying to eject and restarting computer with it plugged in, nothing. Any suggestions?
I did try that but it didn't work at the time. However it seems to have fixed itself. The way it was locked, it wouldn't even go to dark screen and turn off so this morning when I got up the battery was dead and it reset itself. Thanks for your input and help.

3rd gen nano. Lock click wheel volume control but NOT track control???
My title basically says it all. I have a 3rd gen Nano that I want to use solely for a car and it won't be removed. Problem? The track control has to be done on the iPod itself as the car stereo won't do it, but the volume can be controlled by the car's head unit. That said I want the iPod volume to always be on max. Apparently the volume lock feature isn't what I'm looking for, nor is the hold switch. I want to lock the volume from being controlled by the scroll wheel but still be able to change tracks using the scroll wheel... without having to go into a menu or anything. The iPod will eternally be on shuffle and any track changes will just be skipping songs... and all done blindly just by touch... hence why it's driving me nuts I keep scrolling the volume down. Hope that makes some sense. I'm long-winded and wordy but not always clear. Lol

Have you tried a different cable or connecting it to a different USB port on your computer?
Otherwise the only suggestion I have for you is to try and force your iPod into *Disk Mode*. If you are successfully able to do that, it may help keep your iPod mounted long enough for you to perform a restore via iTunes.

Refurbished iPod touch 3rd gen won't start. Just got it today to replace my broken one. It freezes at the screen with the apple logo, then flashes off and tries to restart again. Help!
I have tried holding the power home button but all that does is turn it off. When I try to start it again it goes into the same loop.

I have been running very well with my 30g Video iPod. I got an 8g nano as an award. I had just upgraded iTunes, tried hooking the nano up and now nothing works! iTunes never did find the nano. Did the r,r,r,r,r thing but could only reset because iTunes can not see the nano. Later I was syncing the 30g and was ejecting it and got a message stating it could not be ejected as there are files on it being used by another program. Did the 5R's on he 30g, the unit was syncing and the battery went low and interrupted the sync. Now iTunes can't see the 30g or the 8g. I did a reinstall of iTunes and still nothing. Well, I sent the Nano in, it came back, Apple found no problems with it. When trying to sync it acted as before. With Apple on the phone I tried syncing to my wifes machine!?? I'll be dammed it synced right up!???! Well Apples says it works because it works on my wifes machine!! Well, why wont it work on my PC?!!. Both machines are running up to date iTunes, both have the same firewalls and virus programs and both are running XP with all service packs and updates installed. Now I can work around this for awhile but I have got to get that Nano to sync with my machine. Help if you can and Thanks again, reo52To Apple,
822 unresolved problems in "Connecting 3rd Gen Nano to a Windows Machine" , 25-50% on each page are problems with connecting a Nano in Windows and getting it recognized in Windows or iTunes or syncing errors(1st 5 pages). I think this qualifies as a serious problem. Many state that their Nano works on a different Windows machines and or an Apple machine, but not the one they use. Others and myself have sent their Nanos beck and Apple. Apple states "unit works fine, can not reproduce problem, or words to that effect" then Apple sends it back! It still will not work for the customer. So who has the problem? Owners who can not use their Nano? Apple who has the owners cash but maybe not their goodwill? I do not know, but I can see a Customer satisfaction problem developing. So APPLE please do your best to resolve this situation. It could be to your own advantage and help with those 822 unresolved problems on the Nano Pages. Thanks, reo52 -
