Hey Mavericks, where did my multiple desktops go?!?

In Mountain Lion I was using a second monitor connected to MBP, and would have multiple desktops open and could swipe through all of the desktops with left & right gestures. It worked great. Now I upgrade to Mavericks and I'm no longer able to do this???
Now in Mavericks, the second display is a static display, while the MBP is the only display that's able to swipe between multiple desktops.
Is this the way it works now, why?? Please bring back multiple desktops.
Thanks.

You can setup as many desktops/spaces as you like and if you are using multiple displays, they can have their own separate desktops too. There are a couple of ways to set them up, depending how you work.
Many of Apple's apps and many third party apps have the option of Full Screen support. To use this, it is the icon in the top right of the app window of two diagonal arrows. When using that, the app automatically make its own desktop. No other app that ca share it, and nothing hides behind that app.
This implemtation is Ok, but I tend not to use it on a large display, as I don't need one app taking up my full 24" display. I do tend to use it on my 11" MacBook Air where display real estate is much more necessary.
Otherwise, you can create multiple desktops AND assign particular apps to those desktops, so they have their own desktop space. To initally create a new desktop, go into Mission Control, move the mouse cursor to near the top right corner and a '+' will appear (or just drag an app window there) and tap on the '+' and new desktop is created.
You an drag app windows to desktops within Mission Control. They should launch there from then on, but I find that function buggy in Mavericks.
If you assign an app to a desktop using the Dock, Control-click the app icon and select Options > Assign to Desktop (of your choice) then that app will always open on that desktop.
Going between desktops is easy, go to Mission control and click on the desktop at the top, or gesture on a trackpad using a side swipe with the number of fingers asigned in System Preferences > Trackpad, or Control-Arrow keys also works, your choice.

  • Where did multiple saved login names go in ios8 Safari?

Where did multiple saved login names go in ios8 Safari? In io7 you could have multiple logon names for a given webpage, and select which one you wanted, and even though these different names are saved in saved passwords in the Safari settings, I can't access them.  Safari now just allows one saved name/password per webpage, and if you want to change this name, you have to turn off saved passwords, and type in the new name and password.  Ios7 worked great, why did you mess around with something that worked?  If I could, I would roll back to ios 7.

You should get an Open In window that pops up in Safari that allows you to choose the app in which you want to save the PDF. If you do not have an app that works with PDF files (iBooks, Adobe Reader) you cannot save the file anywhere.

I recently upgraded to Mavericks and I now cannot find under the file menu the option to "Save As" in my Numbers application. Where did it go?

In many, many apps Apple has now created a confusing array of "save as..", "export", and "duplicate" all doing essentially the same thing - saving a new copy elsewhere possibly with format changes.  Drives me nuts.
    But its always there.

  • After installing Mavericks iTunes 11.1.3 does not find my recent iTunes Library. Where did my current library go?

After installing Mavericks iTunes 11.1.3 does not find my recent iTunes Library. Where did my current library go? The new iTunes opens a 2009 library on start up. My most recent library is ignored even when I go to it directly and start iTunes with it. In another thread someone suggested repairing permissions, I did that and it did not help. I ripped my entire CD collection over the summer (1000's of songs) and now they just don't exist...or I can't find them. They were there before I upgraded to Mavericks the other day. Now vanished. I have found no other issues with Mavericks (yet). Played the music last week; upgraded, now can't find my complete current library. If anyone has a clue as to what might be causing this I sure would like know. Thanks to anyone who can help.

Hi, sorry to hear you had this problem. Sometimes after updating iTunes the library appears blank because a new library (.itl) file has been created. Anyone else experiencing this issue may be able to resolve by following the steps outlined in TS1967. There is ofter a 'Previous iTunes Libraries' folder in the iTunes folder, by quitting iTunes entirely and replacing the currently named iTunes Library.itl file with the library file named by date in the Previous Libraries folder (should look something like 'iTunes Library 2011-08-03') and renaming to 'iTunes library.itl' and relaunching you should find the library looks the same as it did before updating (metadata intact).

  • Yosemite consolidating multiple desktops on dual monitors,

I have a Mac mini (mid 2010) - 2.4 GHz - 350 GB - Yosemite 10.10.2 - with dual LG monitors. Instead of using Mission Control I prefer to have multiple desktops on each monitor. I dedicate a single app to each desktop, e.g., Safari, iTunes & iPhoto on Mon1 facing Mail, Messages & Calendar on Mon2, and swipe between apps, which I find more convenient. Six numbered desktops plus Dashboard.
In Mavericks this arrangement was preserved on restart. However, in Yosemite, all apps on Mon2 are consolidated in a single desktop, the remaining 2 desktops - 4 & 5 - have migrated blank to Mon1, PLUS an additional blank desktop - 6 - is generated on Mon1. The single desktop on Mon2 is now 7. On subsequent restarts there become eight, then nine, then ten desktops, etc.
I've been up and down the settings options, tried System Help, outside searches, and even mentioned the issue in passing during an unrelated Apple Tech Support call. To no avail. I had hoped that one of the updates would resolve this. It is easily but inconveniently resolved manually, but as I mentioned this was a non issue in Mavericks.
I mentioned this problem in an earlier post, but in less detail. Has anyone else experienced or heard of this?

I did find a workaround........ that works so far....... If I put FCPX into full screen mode.  Then my events dissapear!!!!  But if I toggle on and off the "Window/Show Events in a separate window" menu then the Events reappear and I can swipe between desktops and all the windows behave as they should.  That's a relief.  The old method doesn't work but at least this one does.  I hope this helps someone who is swiping like a mad man like I was.

  • Where did Print Preview go in Firesworks CS5?

I upgraded from Fireworks 8 to Fireworks CS5 and I can't find Print Preview. Where did it go. I'm wasting multiple sheets of paper trying to print a group of images.

I think the Print command taps into the Mac operating system. I've got both FW8 and CS5 on Mac OS 10.6.8 (Snow Leopard). When I click Print in either version, I get the same dialog box:
I usually choose the PDF options at the bottom of this dialog. Come to think of it, if Preview is missing, you can print a PDF to your desktop instead. It's one or two more steps, but it will save you paper.
Also, for simple tasks, don't overlook the native Mac OS options. Mac's Preview application, in particular, has some great features. If you open up a photo in Preview and choose Print, you'll get a much friendlier print dialog, including a small thumbnail preview (this is in Snow Leopard):

    hi,
This is the first (oldest) Thread in the iChat forum (Page 691)
It started before the Change to the software before the current one (that was still Jive but it has been updated)
The reason you can tell it started before, is the Link in the post by EZ Jim which references this page  (https://discussions.apple.com/webx?128@@.68921c2d  - It no longer works as it refers to using a WebX page)
It is in his post of the 6th June 2005
If you do not know about Mac OS X Maintenance, I mean iTems a), b), and c) of these Regular Maintenance / General Troubleshooting tips. I know it says iMac at the top, but these tips really help keep OS X running smoothly on all Macs.
With WebX you did get a point for posting.
You could also get Plus and Negative Points  from any reader/Poster who had points they could allocate.
Unfortunately there were two forms of abuse that this suffered with.
    1) People creating multiple posting names and voting for themselves.
    2) Posters making personal attacks and using as many negative point allocations over prolonged periods as they could.
At the change a formula was created to effectively round up odd point number to fit in with the 5 and 10 points awarded in the current system.

There is no change to this problem after 6 months since the last post. Put simply, and as stated in the previous posts, there is no way to scan a document and receive the image on your PC. If you are working with graphics for any length of time or want to create an image for inclusion as an image in a document or web page using this piece of equipment will not allow you to do so.
Great shame as every other function works well - it cannot be beyond the wit of HP to include a Windows application that enables you to scan an image, receive it in the software you are using at the time (e.g. Outlook, Word, Photoshop...) and use it in your work.
HP Printers several years older than this £1000+ Enterprise printer were able to do this simple job and have done so for a great many years. Just being able to use Microsoft's Fax and Scan would be start.
