HFM Client

Dear All
I am facing problem with respect to connecting the client server for making changes in the Meta Data & Reloading back after changes in the Meta Data to the client server
I am following the steps given below
a) Logging in the Client by given the user name and the password
b) I am not entering anything in the Domain
c) Client is connected
d) Now I am opening the application
e) It asks for the cluster on which to be connected
f) I am giving the client server name
g) It goes to an option called Register Cluster. There are two option in that
1) Use automatic load balancing (in this i get the existing back up which I have in my desktop)
2) Use one server only
h) I am getting into option ( 2 )
i) i am giving the server name
The error message is
Unable to Register the specified cluster
Please help me in resolving this issue

When you provide the server's name into the dialog box, give the fully qualified name for one of the HFM servers. So instead of "server1" for example, try "server1.domainname.com". You may be seeing DNS issues with the server name if the short name fails but fully qualified name works. Another thing you could try is using the IP address and select Single Server Only. Finally, if the server name does return successfully but does not show up inthe cluster name drop down list when you exit this window, it could be that you don;t have permissions to write to the registry, since the server name is stored in the local registry under HKLM\Software\... Financial Management.
One more: try to ping the HFM app server from a command window, just to see if you can even reach the server.

Error While open the application in a Cluster on HFM Client

Hi,
I have added Cluster in Clinet configuration in HFm, after adding the cluster successfully i have logged into finacial management client then i have selected the Cluster and it opens pop up windows which we need to Select the temp folder for that application
my problem starts here after givingthe folder it thorws me an error( some times we were able to select the application and assigned the folder with out any issues, but some times we could not)
we tried with different credentials but no luck.

Cannot see application in workspace (Created App via HFM client not BPMA)

Dear All,
I have some trouble with my 11.1.1.0 installation. After installation and configuration, I try to goto workspace to find consolidation administration and cannot find it. Then I tried to create an app using the HFM client but after granting all security to the user account, the application will not show up in workspace.
Is there anyway to un-register the HFM installation from Shared Services and Workspace and re-register the HFM installation. There is an option in previous Hyperion version 9 but in 11.1.1.0 there is no such option under the EPM configurator.
Can I fix it or it's pretty much a re-installation. Please give me some advice

Tried uninstall HFM and reinstall again.
Ran EPM onfigurator and everything seem to processed ok.
I can log onto Shared Service and see that I have created an HFM Application and be able to provision users to the application.
But when I log onto Workspace, it just won't show anything related to HFM, the application is not on my application list and under "Classic Application Administration" only Planning shows up and no HFM.
I have Apache running on 19000 and IIS running on 80.
Any idea what I can do to trouble shoot?
I tried to create 2 apps, I using http://compter:19000/hfm as security url and 1 using :80/hfm and neither makes any difference.

Using HFM Client API from FDM

"Unreadable" squares are probably an indication that you are seeing non-printable characters due to the fact that the data is in one format (i.e. Unicode) and you are attempting to treat it as a another data format (ASCII). You may need to instruct the function to return data in a particular type or cast the result so that you are processing it properly.
In regards to the wrapper, I think he's referring to the fact that vbscript doesn't support UDT's. (User Defined Types more commonly referred to as structs) You don't really need to wrap the API itself, rather create a COM object (or other) that would expose a property for each struct field. In the vbscript you would then create an instance to the object and use that with the API call.
In regards to webservices, HFM doesn't have much out of the box. The comment was to create your own, etc. About the only thing you have going for you OOTB is Smartview. Smartview doesn't technically have a web service; however, if you monitor the data that goes in and out of Smartview it is dirt simple. For more than one project, I've taken advantage of Smartview as a means to get quick and dirty data out of HFM.

HFM client vanishes after trying to Extract Metadata

Hey!
When I installed HFM, I configured my DCOM with a default user admin.
Had to change recently because my Dataload via FDM with Drillable region was not working. So, changed to a domain account. Dataload is working now.
But noticed that I cannot extract metadata anymore. While trying to do so, my HFM Client vanishes.
Idea?

What is crashing is my HFM Client, not FDM =)
I cannot do any operation with HFM such as load metadata, extract metadata/data, nothing.
It just vanishes at the middle of operation (I guess)... and no log is recorded.
At the FDM machine I can do those tasks with no problem (same application)...

Port used by HFM Client

Can you please tell me What is the default port used by HFM "WINDOWS" client to connect to Server ?

HFM uses DCOM. The connection is initially made from the HFM client to the HFM Application server on the RPC mapper port 135. After initial connection a dynamically allocated range of ports are used, it is not a fixed range by default. If you need to fix the range you will need to do this on each HFM application server using the DCOMCNFG tool.

If you need to deal with firewalls you will need to allow traffic from the client to the server on port 135, and you will need to fix the DCOM port range.

HFM client patch installation

Hi,
We have an HFM - FDM - Riporting system which consits 3 application servers and 1 terminal server.
The HFM application server were updated to the 11.1.2.1.600 version, but the terminal server which only have an HFM client remained on the 11.1.2.1.0 version.
As the .600 patch instruction says, we must stop the HFM processes and the IIS.
If I want to install this patch only to the terminal server, is it a must to stop these services?
I think the answer is not, because only a client will change, but please ensure me, if somebody has experience about a situation like this.

If there are no HFM related processes running on the machine you are applying the patch then you should be ok.

This is not issue but is a common behaviour of HFM Client as far as I know.
The HFM Client requires a temporary local storage folder where it can place temporary files when you work with the application using the HFM Client. It will ask for this local storage folder only for first time when a user opens an application. It will not ask for this information when the user opens the application the next time.
If you think it is asking everytime when the user accesses the application then I would assume that the Citrix session might be deleting temporary folder created, for some reason which you need to check why with your IT team.

HFM client installation & configuration

I'm trying to access our HFM server from my local client. But I'm experiencing some difficulties...
1. I don't exactly know what products should I have installed (I have installed only HFM client and FR client)
2. How to configure HFM client to connect to our server?
I have successfully connected to the server from FR studio. But HFM isn't working...
Could anybody tell me what to do?

Hi,
You have to start the server and web configuration of HFM. If you only have instralled the cliient then you should see only one tab.
enter the servername (FQDN or ip.nr) of your hfm server in the first box. Choose use automatic load balancing (or single server only if you want to connect to one server). But this is more depending on the way you connect to reports in biplus.
Press Add cluster and the clustername of you hfm server should be available.
That should be all.

HFM Client (11.1.2.0.0) Installation Error Windows 7

Recieved error after running the installTool.cmd in the Foundation11121 folder. It said that it could not find Z:\Foundation11121\\jre\winAMD64\1.6.0\bin\java
The "\\" after Foundation11121 is what the error says, not a typo.
Client install works on Windows XP, but not on Windows 7.

Financial Reporting 11.1.1.3 Client "Access Denied" connecting to HFM

Hi,
I have installed Financial Reporting 11.1.1.3 Client on a PC running Windows Vista 32 bit SP1. When I try to access to a report created form another PC that connects to HFM, it says "Error connectiong to server" and "Cannot connect to database "X": Access Denied". The native user is the same that created the report; on the same machine, I can succesfully access HFM applications from HFM client and Rule editor.
Any idea?

Error trying to extract data via HFM objects

I've written a program to extract selected data from HFM (version 11.1.1.3.500) using the API objects. The program (shown at the bottom of this post) is failing on the 2nd of the following 2 lines:

where oOption is a data load/extract object previously initialized and lBudgetScenario is the long internal ID for our budget scenario.
The error is usually "COM Exception was unhandled" with a result code of "0x800456c7", but, mysteriously, even with no code changes, it sometimes throws the error "FileNotFoundException was not handled", where it says that it could not load "interop.HSXServerlib or one of its dependencies". The second error occurs even though HSXServer was previously initialized in the program and used in conjunction with the login.
I've carefully traced through the VB.NET 2010 code and find that all relevant objects are instantiated and variables correctly assigned. It also occurred to me that the data load DLLs might have been updated when the 11.1.1.3.50 and 500 patches were applied. For that reason, I removed the references to those DLLs, deleted the interop files in the debug and release folders and copied the server versions of those DLLs to my PC. I then restored the DLL references in Visual Studio which recreated the interops. However, the error still occurs.
The ID I'm using (changed to generic names in the code below) has appropriate security and, for example, can be used to manually extract data for the same POV via the HFM client.
I've removed irrelevant lines from the code and substituted a phony ID, password, server name and application name. The line with the error is preceded by the comment "THE LINE BELOW IS THE ONE THAT FAILS".

I stumbled upon the solution to my problem. The documentation for extracting data via objects defines member ID variables as Longs. In fact, I've always defined such variables as longs in previous object programs and had no problems. It appears that the datal load/extract "option" property of "Currentvalue" is defined as integer. When I changed all of my member ID items (such as the "lBudgetScenario" variable that was the right-side of the failing assignment statement) to be integers, the program worked.

Edit .app file in excel and then open it in client tool?

Dear Gurus,
I am very new to HFM and would like to know what practice a HFM consultant will use in editing the metadata.
My boss recommend me to edit metadata( .app file) in excel and save it into a format that can be read and opened by client tool.
However, I find no way to achieve this.
How can i edit metadata in excel and then open it in HFM client tool?

Good morning,
I think the best way to do it it's working with macros. You can work with an Excel file and then, convert it to the .txt format by using macros. A .txt is more suitable to be later worked as .app.
However, you can also do it by using Copy/Paste.
1. Open the .app in a Note Pad, so you can work with .txt file.
2. Copy the .txt data in the Excel file.
3. Then, it's just working with Data > Text to Columns to format the file. Then, you can work in Excel.
Then, you will have to put the Excel file in a .txt, so you will have to follow the data files requirements. You still can do this manually, but you will have to pay attention to the format (FILE_FORMAT=11.1.2, !VERSION=11.1.3609, !CUSTOM_ORDER=Custom1;Custom2;Custom3;Custom4, !APPLICATION_SETTINGS, !CURRENCIES, etc., as it is the Admin Guide). It will also depend on the HFM version you're working with, specially when working with customs.
