HFM Patch Rollback

Hi,
I am using version 9.3.1 and planning to upgrade to 9.3.3.
I just want to know that After applying patch for 9.3.3 is there a way to rollback to 9.3.1 in case anything goes wrong?
I think this would be a general thing to rollback to the previous state before patching.
Please, tell me how to do that.
Thanks
J

The 9.3.3 patch will potentially modify files in the hyperion home directory , relational database tables, and potentially .dll libraries within C:\windows\system32.
If you have a good backup you would be in good shape for recovering the system. However, I would use that as a last resort - you should probably commit to the upgrade process and try to work out issues as they come up and try it out in a development environment first.

  • HFM Patch 9976978 (11.1.1.3.50 Service Pack)

    Hi All,
Just curious if anyone has installed HFM Patch 9976978 (11.1.1.3.50 Service Pack). On a recent service request, Oracle indicated it was a mandatory patch for us.
Wondering if anyone has applied it yet and if there has been any issues with it?
    Much Appreciated,
    Mike

We are attempting to install the patch to our development system and have run into an error. The error message "An unexpected database error occured. Check event log for details. Error Code: -2147220900". This same issue had appeared on an earlier patch in 9.3.3. I have opened an SR and have not found a resolution for the problem as yet. The file referenced in the 9.3.3 that caused the issue is "HsvDSICM.dll". This file has been updated in the 11.1.1.3.50 patch and may be the problem. More laterz.

  • Best Practices for patch/rollback on Windows?

    All,
I have been working on BO XI with UNIX for some time now and while I am pretty comfortable with managing it on UNIX, I am not too sure about the "best practices" when it comes to Windows.
I have a few specific questions:
    1) What is the best way to apply a patch or Service Pack to BO XI R2 on a Windows envt without risking a system corruption?
    - It is relatively easier on UNIX because you don't have to worry about registry entries and you can even perform multiple installations on the same box as long as you use different locations and ports.
    2) What should be the ideal "rollback" strategy in case an upgrade/patch install fails and corrupts the system?
I am sure I will have some follow up questions, but if someone can get the discussion rolling with these for now, I would really appreciate!
Is there any documentation available around these topics on the boards some place?
    Cheers,
    Sarang

This is unofficial but usually if you run into a disabled system as a result of a patch and the removal/rollback does NOT work (in other words you are still down).
You should have made complete backups of your FRS, CMS DB, and any customizations in your environment.
Remove the base product and any seperate products that share registry keys (i.e. crystal reports)
Remove the left over directories (XIR2 this is boinstall\business objects\*)
    Remove the primary registry keys (hkeylocalmachine\software\businessobjects\* & hkeycurrentuser\software\businessobjects\* )
Remove any legacy keys (i.e. crystal*)
Remove any patches from the registry (look in control panel and search for the full patch name)
    Then reinstall the product (test)
    add back any customizations
reinstall either the latest(patch prior to update) or newest patch(if needed)
and restore the FRS and CMS DB.
There are a few modifications to these steps and you should leave room to add more (if they improve your odds at success).

    Tim

  • Regarding 9.2.0.8 patch rollback

    Hi,
My database is running in 9.2.0.6 version, now I am going to apply 9.2.0.8 patch. If anything goes wrong while I am applying patch, isit anyway there to rollback again to 9.2.0.6 version.

I think the patch notes (readme.htm) contains instructions regarding rollback in case of failure.
It is always better (and is recommended in the patch notes also) to take a complete cold backup of database before proceeding with anything.

  • HFM Patch issue

    Hi,
We have applied patch 9976978 on the hfm server which is at version 11.1.1.3.0 in order to upgrade it to 11.1.1.3.50.
The patch was succefully applied and the hpatch.bat lsinventory listed the patch after it was applied.
Now we have tried to apply a new patch which fails in the prerequisite steps asking for the patch 9976978.
I run hpatch.bat lsinventory and see no patches listed Strangely the patch which was applied disappeared.
Can someone tell if they have faced the same issue and also how can we make sure that the version is 11.1.1.3.50 even if it is not listed in the inventory.
    Thanks.

I've applied patch 50 multiple times and never encountered the behavior you are seeing.
You should be applying patches as the user who installed Hyperion. This should be a generic service user account.
If you are using an account other than the account you patched with this could be the case.

  • SAP GUI 7.20 patch rollback

    Hello all,
We are in the process of implementing SAP GUI 7.20 globally using Installation Servers.
I just wanted to pose a "what if" question...
Is there a way to roll back your SAP GUI's to a prior patch if SAP releases a GUI patch that causes major issues in our environment?
Ex: We are on patch 6, we update to patch 7 and there is a critical issue that was missed in QA, which breaks our production end users.
Can I simply apply the previous patch over the new one on the IS server?  Or would I be at the mercy of OSS Messages and waiting for SAP to release a hot fix?
    Thanks.

    Hello Ben
no, that is not possible. The Patch scenario will compare the file versions during the
update. Only higher versions will copied to the client. A lower version does not copied
    to the client.
It is only possible, that you deinstall the Sapgui with command line
    nwsapsetup /uninstall /all /nodlg
Then you can install the Sapgui again, with the patchlevel you want.
    Best Regards

  • SLD s/w version incorrect after patch rollback, how to resynchronise?

After encountering a problem applying SP25 to our XI 3.0 java stack the patches were removed. In the meanwhile the SLD auto update occured and now the SLD technical system shows the wrong version and is causing issues. Triggering an update via visual administrator SLD data supplier service does not fix the issue
Does anyone know how to force an update with the s/w version and patch stack details for the J2EE core components (SAP-JEECOR, SAP-JTECH, SAP-JEE)
    thanks
    Alison

    Hi Alison
Assuming you have rolled back - the next update from (manually or automatic) from the SLD Data Supplier service should update
the latest data supplier information to the SLD - even if this is a previous SP version
If this is not happening then perhaps there is a problem with the SLD Data Supplier service - check user defined is not locked and is in validity date similiarly check the password is correct and not recently changed and check the user rights are correct for Data Supplier user
At the same time one other possibility is that the original update of SP25 information or the creation of the system itself was done by another data source - i.e via SLD sync (from another SLD) or manually added in which case no manual or automatic update may work - in these cases customers need to continue the same import line - i.e if data supplier information was added by a sync only a subsequent sync can update, if manually added then the system must be manually updated in future
    Best wishes

Was there any error during the rollback? Some times, the errors happen but still opatch says "OPatch Succeeded" in the end. Please post the log file of the patch rollback.
If the patch is successfully removed but just the inventory is not getting updated then contact support, they will be able to guide you. There is a tool called "rempatch.pl", which can be used to just update the inventory.

  • Inventory says that Patch is not available but regedit has the patch.

    Hello,
Ours is an HFM 11.1.1.3 and 3 months back we applied HFM 50 patch on it.
Last week when I was applying HFM 500 patch we noticed that when I fired "hpatch lsinventory" it did not had HFM 50 patch in it, but when I saw in the regedit I was able to see HFM 50 patch in it and also I could see HFM 50 patch in HFM client.
Then I tried applying HFM 500 patch but I got error saying pre-requisite HFM 50 patch is not available , so I applied HFM 50 patch again and then applied HFM 500 patch over it.
What I understood is that our inventory might have got created by somebody in our team, but my question is do we have to reapply all the patches every time when we re-create inventory and then try to apply higher version of HFM patch.
    Regards,
    Rajnish Singh

If you recreate the inventory you will lose the history of installed patches.
If you then need later to install a patch which has a prerequisite patch, you will need to reapply the prerequisites (as you did) before you can proceed with your new patch.
In short, you should not be recreating the inventory except in an emergency (corrupted) situation.
going forward, oracle will be trying to release less smaller Patch Set Exception patches and more complete PSU patches (Patch Set Updates). if you keep up to date with the Patch Set Updates and minor releases, even if an inventory is recreated somewhere along the line, there should not be too many additional patches to be installed.

  • Problem Updating Sample App v207 Turnkey Image to 11.1.1.6.5 Patch Set

I've been using the Oracle-provided pre-built Linux Sample App v207 image in a demo/sandbox capacity. I was hoping to patch it to 11.1.1.6.5 in order to squash some bugs, although I'm fairly new to the OBIEE patching process. I'm running into errors when attempting to apply the 1st patch of the set (14696072). It appears it's trying to auto-rollback one or more previous patches, as expected, but these backup rollback directories no longer exist. Perhaps they were deleted from the image prior to release in order to conserve storage space?
I searched the entire drive for traces of patch 14223977, as there were references to this patch with errors in the opatch log file. The directory it's trying to copy files from does not exist. I did find the two directories below which had references to this patch, but they don't include the subdirectories which OPatch is looking for:
    /home/oracle/obiee/Oracle_BI1/cfgtools/opatch/14223977_Jul_02_2012_16_48_19/
    /home/oracle/obiee/Oracle_BI1/inventory/oneoffs/14223977/
So I'm wondering if anyone else has attempted applying these updates to this particular image and has found a solution. Perhaps it won't be possible if the rollback or backup files for previous patches are in fact missing. I'm admittedely somewhat new to using opatch, so it's very possible it's not the image, but me that's missing something. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance for any insight.

Thanks for your reply, Jay. This seems to confirm my suspicion of the files being removed intentionally. This would imply that this image wasn't meant to be patched? So if this is the case, I'd like to confirm that there's not going to be any hope of moving this particular image to 11.1.1.6.5. I'm hoping someone may be able to prove otherwise, but it's not sounding very promising.
I understand that a new manual install is an alternative, but due to several factors, I'd like to avoid that if at all possible. It appears Oracle has not released manual install files for Sample App v207 (please correct me if I'm mistaken about that). I have several scripts based on this content/config which would make patching a much easier route, if possible.
Thanks in advance for any additional insight.

  • EPMA - HFM Metadata reordering structure

I have a strange one that we are trying to understand and diagnose...
This is 11.1.2.1, HFM patched up to 104, EPMA up to 600.
We have been seeing the metadata in the Shared Dim Library, for example Account and Entity members, becoming "reordered".
    For example:
    CONSUMER
         WWCODMRK
         WWPLSFLTTR
         CMRPDT
         HEATTRFN
    When it should be:
    CONSUMER
         CMRPDT
         HEATTRFN
    WWCODMRK
         WWPLSFLTTR
Business is suggesting, as are the consultants, that EPMA may have "caused" the reordering of the issue. Despite the fact that there has been ongoing work within the metadata for the last few months during this project.
Has anyone ever run into this type of anomaly in EPMA?
Ask me any questions you need to to get a better picture on this. And I appreciate anyone's input...
    Regards,
    Ed Puente

One possibility is to enable the "Organization By Period" feature, which allows you to effectively change your organization structure for one particular month without changing all historical time periods as well.

  • Shared Services 9.3.1.1 HyS9SharedServices.exe process

We recently started to notice that the HyS9SharedServices.exe process grows to use 1GB of memory. Currently this isn't causing any known issues, there aren't many users in the system. However about a month ago we had major performance issues with HFM / Smartview while there were "a lot" of users in the system. The problems in HFM were slow logins and slow switching between HFM applications. Smartview logins were also slow. Once in the HFM app things seemed to be fine. This lead us to look at Shared Services and we noticed that the HyS9SharedServices.exe had grown to 1GB.
Note: there was nothing in the Shared Services logs including in debug mode.
Ticket was opened with Oracle support and they first had us install HFM patch 9.3.1.4.10 siting this defect: 9056633 - HIGH NUMBER OF PROVIDER QUERIES WHEN USER BELONGS TO ONLY NATIVE GROUPS
Our user security is MSAD accounts belonging to native groups so this patch made sense and seemed to resolve the issue. Oracle also had us upgrade Shared Services to SP1 so we're now on 9.3.1.1 previously on 9.3.1.0.13
We've been monitoring the memory usage of the HyS9SharedServices.exe process over the last month and while it typically sits somewhere between 150-250MB memory usage twice, including yesterday we watched it grow to 1GB and get stuck there. Our servers are rebooted every Sunday so we expect the process to drop back down to normal again in a few days. Meanwhile we're concerned that something is triggering it to grow and get stuck at 1GB but we don't know what or if this is something that we should be concerned with. Oracle support is still working with us but still doesn't have much on this.
One other thing of interest when looking at various logs, for example the SharedServices_Memory_Profile.log you can see memory use is ~25455 kb right up until it jumps to 167091 kb and then to 681665 kb starting at 12:01pm yesterday right when the process started to grow. Then at 12:11pm according to the log it's back down to 25516 kb but this is not how windows is reporting it as it's still currently showing it at 1,059,676 K. Could this just simply mean that windows isn't reporting things accurately or is it tomcat? Any one have any ideas?
    Thanks,
    Eugene

One of the problems that show similar sysmtoms is data explosion, caused by poorly written rules. Rules can dramatically populate a database with many more values than what was loaded from the source system. To determine if this issue is affecting your application, first determine how many records are in the DCE (Entity) table and see how close that is to the number of records in the load file. You can run a query that will order all the records, and give you a count of how many records there are for each account. Look for accounts that have dramatically larger frequencies than others, and then trace them back to the source. Do the same for the DCN (Node) table.
The results of this can be compared with your load file to determine if you are experiencing data explosion from rules.
Are you getting any subcube warnings in the HSVEvent log?

    Hi again,
I have a question about upgrading DB to 11gR2. Using DBUA, performed upgrade, and reached the point where I'm supposed to set Database Initialization Parameters (according to 396009.1). However, during the upgrade, I chose option "Do Not Move Database Files", and now I don't have initPROD.ora in my new $ORACLE_HOME/dbs. Which files should I copy from the old ORACLE_HOME? Which to edit? Any advice would do, thanks in advance.
MayloYou should have the init.ora file under the same directory. However, if the file is missing you can copy it from the old $ORACLE_HOME as mentioned above.
Please refer to these docs for setting those initialization parameters.
