HG 10 Canon Video Camera...Cannot Get iMovie 8 to Recognize Camera

I just got a HG 10 Canon Video camera. I took it out of the box, hooked up the USB cable and iMovie doesn't want to recognize it. It almost did once, but then it was lost. Any tips? I've seemingly tried everything.

  • I cannot get iMovie 11 to recognize my old Sony DV recorder

Trying to import old mini DV movies into iMovie 11 but it will not recognize camera.  Using a firewire cable that connects directly from camera to computer.  Have reset computer, checked system profiler, checked connections, everything.  It will not recognize the camera.  I have used this same camera before to download into iMovie on this very computer.  Just not sure if I have used iMovie 11.  Any advice?

  • HT3775 I have a bunch of .MOD files I cannot play from our Canon video cam. I tried renaming the files as MPEG or MOV, I get the message "The document "001.MPEG" could not be opened. A required codec isn't available." Any advice on getting these to play?

Try installing Perian or VLC. Some AVIs require a codec which simply isn't available for Mac OS X.

  • Canon Video camera

I bought a Canon Video Camera and did not get a manual like I did when I bought my Canon SX200IS camera.  What is going on?????????
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

I am disappointed in the FACT that Canon will not put a manual in with their cameras.  I need a manual when I am out on a cruise ship or on a vacation trip.  In order have access to a manual on a cd, I would need to have a computer with me at all times which is thoroughly inpractical.  The fact that you said Canon is trying to be environmentally friendly is completely bogus.  Canon is only interested in saving the cost of printing the manuals.  I will not be buying any more Canon cameras because of this FACT which distresses me greatly because I really liked the Canon cameras.
    Thank you,

  • HT2518 I am trying to move across & view my home movie clips from my PC to Mac, but I can't view them.  What do I need to have installed on the MAC to view such files? (Originally put onto the MAC from a Canon video camera)

I am trying to move across & view my home movie clips from my old PC to my new Mac but I am unsure what software I need to view them.  They are from a Canon video camera originally.  Please advise how this is done!

Do they have a file extension?
How about anything on the camera which might indicate what it is, like AVCHD?

  • I cannot get my Mac to recognize my Sony DCR-HC21?

I cannot get my Mac to recognize my Sony DCR-HC21. Running a 13inch Macbook Pro 13inch mid 2010 model with Mac OS X Version 10.6.8.
    Things I have tried:
    1. Trying 3 separate Firewire cables (also tried two USB cables even though I know they wouldn't work, just wanted to see if the Mac would recognize the camera that way, no dice)
    2. Turning the camera on then opening iMovie '11 (running version 9.0.4.)
    3. Opening iMovie first then turning on the camera
    4. Turning the camera on then opening Final Cut Pro 7
    5. Opening Final Cut open first then turning on the camera
    6. Tried 2-6 once with USB Stream on, and once with USB Steam off (USB Stream is a function on the camera)
    7. Restarted the Mac then tried again
    8. Reset my PRAM and NVRAM then tried again, still no dice.
My camera is set to the "Play/Edit mode" where it's supposed to be and the camera recognizes that it's connected to the computer by showing a little "DV" icon in the upper right hand corner, but iMovie, Final Cut, and the Mac itself won't recognize it. I have searched all over the internet, tried everything every forum has said and still nothing. Can anyone please help me?

  • After bringing in the movie from (a Canon) video camera in iMovie and finishing a Project where do you save the project and make DVD using iDVD?

I am trying to burn DVD of the movie I have taken using a Canon and/or aSony video camera. I brought in the movie in iMovie. Enhanced  the movie adding titles and various transitions and completed the project.  Now how do I make a or several DVD of the movie using iDVD? please help.

You can either share it directly to iDVD by choosing Share > iDVD or you can export it using your favorite preferred settings by choosing Export to Quicktime. With the former method, iDVD will open automatically, with the latter method, open iDVD and drag in your movie. With both: choose a theme for your menu (what people will see when the DVD first starts playing) - you should play around a little to learn how to use iDVD. In any case, when done, you can burn directly from iDVD.

  • Canon video camera & mac?

We received a Canon FS200 video camera...when I plug it into the usb port my mac does not recognize it, & it doesn't appear as an import option in imovie...does Canon make any mac drivers or should we trade this camera in?

OK, I had the same problem. Also the software update with Apple says that your software is up-to-date, but it really is no. Neither Apple or Canon was able to help me much, but I got it finally resolved. Canon does not make any special drivers - the Firewire / USB connection to the Mac becomes your driver. If your Canon camera shows "DV In" on the camera display then the camera is communicating with your computer. You need to "force" your computer in recognize the camera. Here is what you do: Create a new Admin User account on your Mac ( just call it "Temp" with the password "temp" for example) - Make sure to give it 'Admin Privileges' and set you computer to "Display login window as: "List of users" under the Login Options in the bottom left corner of you Accounts window. Then disconnect your Canon camera and all cables from your Mac and turn off the camera and your computer. OK, this is important! -- You MUST connect your Canon camera to its power supply (not just battery) and then turn it to "play mode" not recording, but you don't want to have it actually play anything, just turn your switch to the that 'on' position. Reconnect all your cables and turn on your computer. You will be prompted to log in your accounts - select the 'Temp" account and type in your password. The new login will force the software update and it will actually find a software update for iLife, even though your other login could never find one and you always received the message that your software was up-to-date. Go into iMovie as well and you will find your camera to be connected.

  • My new Mac Pro will not recognize my old Canon video camera

My new Mac Pro will not recognize my old Canon video camera

We've used the 400 to 800 firewire cables with limited success in the past...dropped frames was the main problem. Only used them until the Sonnet FireWire PCIe Card came in to allow a 400 firewire.

  • Cannot get iMovie to open because it's looking for an old ext drive. help

I just upgraded to 10.6.2 and Life 09. When I open iMovie it tries to open an old external drive /server path and just goes unresponsive. I cannot get rid of this even when I dump iLife .plist to force a reset. Can anyone tell me how I can actually start using this application?
    Thanks

You cannot download and install iSync, as the version you require is simply not available for download. Instead, you must extract it from your original Mac OS X 10.4.x Install or Upgrade DVD* using Pacifist, then update it by applying the appropriate Combo update package, which you can download from Apple.
    Pacifist is available here:
    http://www.charlessoft.com
To extract and install it, do this:
Launch Pacifist. Insert your Mac OS X 10.4 Install or Upgrade DVD in your optical drive and wait for it to mount. Press the now-activated Open Mac OS X Install Packages button in Pacifist. Wait for the window to appear - it will take some time to load all of the resources - then double click on the Contents of Essentials.pkg file to open it, double-click on the Applications folder, select iSync.app then press the Install button.
That will install a copy of iSync 2 into your Applications folder. Then run the Mac OS X 10.4.8 Combo update for PowerPC, which will update it to release 2.3.
That specific updater is available at this link:
    http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/macosx1048comboupdateppc.html
*Note that the original DVD required to perform the extraction and this updater are only intended for use with a PowerPC platform. Your intel-based MacBook requires a different updater should you wish for some reason to update it. The install DVD supplied with the MacBook cannot be used to extract iSync 2 for use on your PowerPC machine, as that disk contains an intel-only version of the application.
