HH 3 Type A - wireless issues (slows down/drops ou...

We have been experiencing poor wireless service for 3 weeks now, which means that we have to reboot our HH pretty much every day (and sometimes more than once).  Apparently it's not the same issue as the other long thread, as that only affects Type B Hubs, and not Type A - but it sounds fairly similar on the surface, in that we can work fine on the wireless for a few hours (or even a whole day if we are lucky) but then it slows down/drops out.
Nothing has changed in our setup at home - we have had the HH for nearly 4 years now - and we have no new devices in the house that could be upsetting things.  BT advised us to change the wireless channel, which I had already been doing - but this doesn't seem to make any more difference than rebooting the HH on the same channel.  We had been mostly hopping between 1, 6, and 11 - as per the standard advice - so I was advised to try 13 instead, as that one is typically used the least.  I had to reboot the HH again this morning so I switched to 13 at the same time - this seemed to be OK for about an hour, and then it dropped out and would not reconnect at all, despite numerous HH reboots.  It was so bad that I thought I might have to go out and buy a cable to ever get connected to the HH again!  However I eventually managed to get a very slow wireless connection, and was able to switch back to channel 6 to get us up and running again.  Since then I have changed again, to channel 7, just to see if that makes any difference at all.
My question for forum members is this - what would you recommend as the best way to check wireless channel usage, and/or wireless interference please?

So after monitoring inSSIDer for about 24 hours, and changing back to channel 1 last night (after channel 7 gave up on us around 6pm-ish - the usual thing where the connection just seems to die, and only a HH reboot gets it going again) - I can see that channel 1 seems to be the most consistent, with a Link Score that is usually in the 50 range.  I get notifications every so often suggesting that I change to channel 6 or 11, but both of those channels are very up and down in comparison to channel 1, so we've stuck with 1 for now.
Despite rebooting the HH twice last night, between 6-7pm, we still had to reboot it again around 10.30am today - however I have not seen any drop in the Signal or Link Score via InSSIDer either before or after the reboots in the last 24 hours.  Shouldn't I see the Signal and/or Link Score drop right down before a reboot is required?

  • Linksys Wireless Router Slowing Down Internet

Hi, I currently have Optimum Online boost through cablevision. I noticed I wasn't getting speeds anywhere near what Optimum stated my plan includes so I called them up. After troubleshooting they asked me to connect the cable modem directly into my laptop(bypassing the router) and run a speed test and then do the same speed test when accessing internet over the wireless router. The results of this showed that the wireless router was significantly slowing down my internet connection. I currently have a Linksys WRT54G V6 with firmware: v1.00.7, Feb. 16, 2006. Anyone have any ideas what in the router is slowing me down. FYI I am very close to the wireless router(excellent connection) with no interference around(my laptop and a dekstop are the only thing connected to the router) and I have tested this on multiple laptops wirelessly and it all shows that something in the router is slowing this down. MAC Filtering is disabled and the encryption is WPA - Personal AES-CCMP. Thanks! Hope someone can help. ppc

  • Battlefield 2 + x-fi issues (slow downs after 2-3 ma

    Hi,
I previously had an audigy 2 plat pro, and everything worked fine.
My system spec is as follows:
    AMD Athlon 3800 X2 | Asus A8N-SLI Premium Motherboard | Corsair TWINX2048-3200 DDR-DIMM 2048MB |Gigabyte Geforce 6800 Ultra | Hiper PSU ATX 525W | Vapochill Micro Ultra Low Noise Cooler | Creative X-FI Extreme Music | Creative Inspire 7. Speakers | Dual iiyama prolite e43S | x 60GB Western Digital 7200 |2x 60GB Maxtor D'Max Plus 9 - SATA (8MB Cache) | LG DVD-RW | Liteon LTR-2402B CDRW | Lian Li Alloy case | Windows XP Professional SP2
Recently i swapped the audigy 2 for an x-fi, did a complete reinstall of xp, bf2 etc. I used the latest drivers from the creative auto-update support site. I set the sound to x-fi in bf2 while in gaming mode using the mode selector for the card. The game works fine, great sound etc, but after about 2-3 maps the whole thing grinds to a halt, with the HD going mental, the framerate drops to about 2 frames a minute and alt+tab takes an age.
I've turned off just about everything in the background, nothing appears to help. I've even read about the nforce4/X-Fi issues and switched my dri'ves over to use the silicon image SATA controller rather than the nforce to try and avoid overloading the pci bus. None of this has made any difference.
I've seen a thread on here from way back when the .4 bf2 patch was in beta about a memory leak issue. It's worth noting that i don't have any crackling or popping issues with the card during normal use. I also have my page file on a seperate dri've (difference controller port) to the main dri've with bf2 on.
This is driving me up the wall. I upgraded my card and now everything has gone to $#!^. Is anyone else experiencing this? I should never have swapped out my (fully working) audigy 2 zs
    Thanks in advance

Sure sounds like a memory leak. I know you wrote that you had youre pagefile on a seperate disk. But how much of pagefile do you have? BF2 requires quite a lot.. Have you tested youre memory? So everything else is up and running correctly? I know youre system worked great with youre Audigy 2. But still, things can happen when you are in the case and working. So dont take anything for granted!? Try to un-install the drivers, and instead of using the autoupdater, try downloading them youre self, and install them when having Windows in Safe-mode. Another last resort thing is of course to re-install windows if you alredy havent done that?

  • Extreme: does it slow down other users?

Does another computer, plugged into the Extreme base station and not wireless, get slowed down any? Or does the flow from pc to Internet pass through the base station without hindrance? My husband tells me it slows down his computer with we use the Extreme as a wireless and a regular router? Anyone know the answer... I'd love to hook it back up, even though it is very slow with the wireless connection.
    Thanks.

if user has B/G and N devices then yes the network will slow to the slowest device used at the time. A way around this is to use two routers. The secondary router must be placed in bridge mode(use Airport Utility "manual" to set it. Set the main router for 5 GHZ N speed and the secondary for 2.4 GHZ N+B/G speed. Tell your husband to use the appropriate router set for his speed device. You use the other.

  • Wireless slowed down, AP LAN interface txload 255/255

    Hello
Just built up a new office network, have 5 2602i controlled by a 5508 on FlexConnect local switching mode. One day ago when I tested my wirless, I can got full speed, about 40M, but today, after some 40-50 staff moved in, no configuration is changed, but I can only get 4-5M on speed test when connecting on wirless,  but at the same time when connected on cable number, still got full speed, so not an internet link issue.
I checked around, only odd thing I noticed, is that all my 5 APs LAN port, int g0, showed txload 255/255, alrought very low bps and pps on the port.

  • How to find out what is slowing down your wireless speed

The first thing you need to do is when setting up your wireless internet is do it right from the beginning. For starters unplug and remove the batteries from all the cordless phones. If you have a wireless door bell or a repeater shut it off and unplug it.. Anything that is wireless in your house needs to be turned off. This also includes cell phones, Ipad's and Ipod's.This thing of telling the homeowner that the mircowave is causing problem is hog wash. But don't have it running while you are setting this up. In other words nothing in your house should be running including the AC and heat. Anything that is pulling hi amperage should be shut down during the set up. Now unplug all cables on the router except for your computer cable and power supply to the router. Hold the reset button in long enough to clear all settings. Now you are ready to set this up right. Sign into your router and go to My Network, if it is showing something other that your main frame computer you still have something on that the router is picking up. Find it and turn if off and reset the router again. Once everything is cleaned and the only this showing up is the computer you are ready. Now go to Speed Net or what ever you check your speed with and write down your average speed. Do three or four speed test to get the average reading. BTW, clear all cookies before you check your speed. Now go back into your router settings and rename you computer to what ever so you won't get that IP address confused with the rest of your hook up. Next take only one of your wireless devices and turn it on. Once the router picks it up rename it and put the security code on for that device to connect to the wireless device. It should also show it as being a wireless device. Also if all your devices can except performance mode go for it because the speeds will always be faster. Also start selecting one channel at a time to find the one that has the fastest speed. Try doing this close to the router, like in the same room. If you are using the performance mode your upload and download should be close to your wired connection. Now go to different parts of the house. You will see some drops but that is normal. Don't do this test on a PS3 or a WII because those speeds will always be slow no matter what you do. All Apple products won't work with Speed Net. Once you get connected to the internet it is always better to go back into your router and write down the assigned IP address and the IP address to the router sign in and manually put them in to each device. Always remember the higher security setting you can set you the faster the speed will be. Do each device as said in the above way. Something else you also might want to do is after you have set up each wireless device go back into your router setting under Wireless settings and disable SSID Broadcast. Only thing this will do is make it to where nobody can see your wireless connection. That way when someone wants to hack your router they won't be able to see it...ya can't hack what ya can't see....lol. Once you get all said wireless devices set up and connected then go back and start turning on phones...ect..ect. If you are truly getting interference you will be able to change the channel on either that device or change the channel on the router for that device. Most of the devices in this day and time should be able to except the 802.11n or the next letter down. The bad thing about the newest Verizon router is the security is still outdated for the PS3. Part two of this is Sony is still using a crap-o-la wireless internet receiver, as a result I don't care what cha do unless you hard wire it in and that still only helps some. Also this thing of putting your router on the window seal or up near the ceiling is also poo poo. If this was a true case why not just hook up a High Def antenna in the room...lol Also this thing of stating don't put the router near a wall is also doo doo. Their would have to be a load of copper wire in that wall to prevent a signal from going through it. If you think about it all wall electrical outlets are wired low to the floor. They take one room and wire them all together. They don't wire it up and down the walls. So most rooms have the wiring a foot from the floor. The most wire you will find in a house at one location is at the circuit breaker box and the box should be on a outside wall in the garage. In older homes like the 40's and 50's some are in the kitchen or a bedroom closet. On the older homes try and steer clear of those locations. Now if you are getting interference from something in your home this will be a easy way to find it. One thing Verizon needs to stop telling it's customer and that is if you get a faster speed which is more money it will correct your wireless problem...hog wash Once you spend your hard earned money and sign the contract, they forget to tell you they only guarantee that speed if it is hard wired...lol for some reason they always forget that part.

I forgot to suggest one more thing. On your computer go to start/ run/ type in MSCONFIG and go all the way to the right and click start up and then at the bottom select disable all and then reboot. Windows will only load what it need to operate. After that go back into MSCONFIG and go back to the start up and put a check into what ever security program you are using and reboot. Everything will still work fine. The only thing you are doing here is not running all the programs each time you turn your computer on.What this will do if you do this is it will start programs faster and it also is less wear and tear on your pooter. If you want to see what I am talking about go here>> http://www.blackviper.com/ and he will explain and show in full detail what I am talking about as far as being robbed by unnecessary programs running in the back ground. He will also explain the correct way of disabling things that you will never use. MS is set up for remote operation. Like calling your pooter from a phone which I am pretty sure most don't use that feature. If you want to see what happens when you go to any site while surfing download the free copy of CrapCleaner, run it and let it remove all the internet clutter and cookies, then go to one site and close IE down and rerun CrapCleaner again. You will then see what is really slowing down your internet speed. If you are using Windows 7 or 8 you need to go to Control Panel/ Taskbar and Start Menu/ then select Start menu again/ Customize/ and scroll down to Run Command and check it. Now you will be able to see the run command. I don't know why MS removed that feature.

  • Dropping Wireless Connection & Speed Slowing Down

    Hi,
Up until a week ago I had two BT lines, I will call them line 1 and line 2.  Line 1 (front room) was used purely for phone calls, and line 2 (middle room) had Broadband activated on it. When it came time to renew the yearly line rental I checked and had it confirmed by BT that the available Broadband speed was faster on line 1, so I decided to cancel line 2, and move my Home Hub 4 into room 1 having arranged to activate Broadband on what in theory should be a line that gives a better speed.
My current problem is two-fold. Firstly I am not yet getting the line speed that I was expecting. I have spoken to the Technical Help Line, and understand that following the activation of Broadband on the line in Room 1 I should wait 10 days for the available speed to stabalise. Currently I am 7 days on from line activation.
A few days ago I was getting download speeds around 2.70 Mbps, with upload speeds around 0.38 Mbps. The IP profile for the download speed at that time was set at 2.77 Mbps. The IP profile for the upload speed was set at 0.45 Mbps. Over the past week I have done numerous speed checks and found that the speed did vary, as might be expected, but was generally always around these figures. Because of the line check speeds I was given by BT's own staff I was expecting the available speed to get better, not slow down! I was originally advised to expect line speeds of between 3.5 Mbps - 5.5 Mbps.
Over the last 24 - 36 hours the speed has slowed down, and a few minutes ago these are the figures I observed:
Download speed achieved during the test was - 1.3 Mbps
For your connection, the acceptable range of speeds is 0.8 Mbps-2 Mbps.
IP Profile for your line is - 1.33 Mbps
Upload speed achieved during the test was - 0.34Mbps
    Additional Information:
Upstream Rate IP profile on your line is - 0.45 Mbps
Line speed then is one issue, but there is another.
My second, presently very frustrating problem is that even though the Hub 4 is consistently powered, and maintains a steady Blue light showing that Broadband is available, my wireless connection that I receive from the Hub keeps dropping. I should add that the distance from the Hub 4 in Room 1 to where I work with my laptop in Room 2 is only about 15 - 20 feet. I used the old Hub 2 until a few weeks ago, and neither my daughter on her laptop, or myself, had any problems with 'dropping' the wireless signal, whichever room we were in, or even if we used our respective laptops elsewhere in the house. I was convinced enough by the publicity 'blurb' to believe that Hub 4 was more reliable, with fewer drop-outs. So far this has not proven to be the case.
I know that I need to wait a few days more till the 10 days are up, but would really appreciate some kind soul commenting on the above. I have looked at the Logs, but without knowing what segment would be helpful in aiding a diagnosis of my two issues I didn't want to provide unnecessary information. So if any particular element of the Logs would be useful, please let me know.
    Yours in hope,
    Alan
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Hello again,
With your help I was able to locate the place to change the channel manually, which I did, thanks for that. It only resulted in a marginal improvement, but any improvement is good I guess.
HH4 has now been showing a steady connection for three + days, so, as requested, here are the noise stats:
    16:14:16, 26 Nov.    ( 76.170000) DSL noise margin: 22.00 dB upstream, 12.20 dB downstream
    16:14:16, 26 Nov.    ( 76.080000) DSL line rate: 448 Kbps upstream, 3104 Kbps downstream
I have done several speed tests and they all show broadly similar results, namely that my download speed is usually around 2.67, whereas my IP Profile is set at 2.74.
I don't know whether this is worth mentioning but I only have an old style BT socket on my line, not one that has a test socket inside, so I can't do any of the tests using that facility.
Although my broadband connection has been stable and active on the HH4, as far as using wireless to connect my laptop in another room I do still get several dropped connections each day.
Even when I am connected to my HH4 by wireless, and my signal, as now, is only in the four bar bracket, by looking at the other Networks that are active in my street/area I can see, although it is rightly secured, that someone is using a HH3 and the signal on that is powerful enough to register a full five bar (excellent) strength on my laptop. How near or far away from me that user with a HH3 is I do not know, the point is however I can receive a more powerful and consistent signal from their Hub than my own. I must confess to being puzzled by that. What could be the reason?
Is there any further help or guidance that you can give that might assist in raising my IP profile, in the hope that my speed might increase? Or do you have any further suggestions as to how I might reduce the noise on my line to a more acceptable amount, so that my signal might give me a better wireless connection?
Thanks again for any advice or help you are able to give.
    Regards,
    Alan

Since downloading OS X Yosemite I have been having issues with Netflix. Video slows down which causes the audio to go out of sync. Netflix plays ok on ipad which makes me think it's the software which is the issue. Has anyone else had this issue?

    Try this:
Go to System Preferences - Bluetooth. Delete the keyboard from the list of devices by pressing the "-" button. Take the batteries out of the keyboard and reinsert them. In Bluetooth Preferences press the '+" button to add the new device. If the keyboard begins to pair, click the word "pair" and type in the passcode. Press return. The keyboard is now paired.
If the mouse is not pairing, try this: shut down the computer completely, unplug any USB mice, then turn off the power to the bluetooth mouse.  ONce the computer starts up again, wait for the pop-up looking for a mouse.  Turn on the power to the bluetooth mouse.  It should work normally now.

  • Slow down issue with Premiere CS4 on a Mac pro

I am having a similar slow down issue with Premiere CS4 on a Mac pro, but I don't have bloated prproj file size.
Here is what I am working with:
Mac Pro intel quad core 2.8ghz
    OSX 10.6.7 Snow Leopard
    6Gigs RAM
3TB storage between 4 drives, each drive with about 50% free space
I am editing a 10 minute HD video from avchd files.  The edited video is very heavy in photoshop files with a variety of different fx including green screen.  The system has slowed down to almost a standstill.  Anytime I move the playcurser, or try to do any action, it displays the spinning top "thinking" icon and takes 15 seconds to several minutes to unfreeze.  I am often forced to force quit and I have gotten unexpected quits several times.   The program also freezes on startup frequently.
No other programs are running.  When I export with media encoder, it took about 4 hours to complete.  The last 4 or so photoshop images I added seemed to tip the program over the edge.  It had been slowing down some, but those last few really dropped the processing speed.  Before those additions, export took 30 min to 1hr.
I did delete the render files (did not check if the file size was bloated beforehand, oops) but it has not significantly affected my performance.

Do you need all of those extra pixels in the stills? Are you panning the full 4976?
Two things to consider are that if you using, say a 1920 x 1080 Sequence Frame Size, you can only see that at any time, regardless of how large the images are in pixels. If there are extra pixels, i.e. the Pan is not using all 4976 pxls., I would Scale to just what you need in PS, prior to Import.
If you are doing any Scale in PrPro, its Scaling algorithms are not as efficient, as those in PS. [Note: CS5 and 5.5 are a major improvement on that statement.]
With many large stills (the max for CS4 is 4096 x 4096, if there ARE extra pixels, pushing those around will use up resources, and quickly. As a test, some years back, I was working on a "photo wall," and was using 4000 x 4000 images. The workstation had no issues with slowness, until I got to the 5th large still. By the 8th, the Project was too slow to edit. I had to wait for everything. Luckily, I have AE, and it handles large stills much more efficiently, and much differently, than PrPro. I just moved to an AE Comp, and completed the Project, finishing up n PrPro, after I Exported from AE.
Just something to think about. With Scaling in PrPro, this is one time, where bigger is not necessarily better.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • Songs slowing down when I type

I'm running iTunes 7.7.1 on a new computer. iTunes had no problem on my old one, but on my new one, the songs slow down when I type, which is rather annoying, since I listen to music while, you know, typing. I'm on WinXP Pro, and everthing else is working great. Any ideas?

What tools, Mostly I work with iWeb using iPhoto, Aperture, Photoshop TeXture Adobe FormsCentral for Acrobat etc. making and editing Web Sites. Often I have many Apps open simultanously.

  • CS5 and 6 slow down issue - was working fine

    Hi Everyone
Hoping you can help as i've tried pretty much everything I can think of to resolve this. I've been running CS5.5 production premium for a while now, powerful PC, everything was running fast and working great.
Now, all of a sudden Photoshop keeps slowing down to a crawl - im talking massive slow down, the mouse cursor doesnt even move properly. No hardware has changed, and no major software changes, all CS5 is up to date. All my other CS programs (after effects, illustrator etc) are working fine. Tried re-installing CS5, I also installed the PS CS6 trial to see if that works, but it also suffers from the same slow down issue.
So if anyone has any ideas, I would really appreciate them! Before I have to do a complete clean install of the whole system.
    Thanks
    Jack

More details on your set-up might be helpful.
    Boilerplate-text:
Are Photoshop and OS fully updated and have you performed the usual trouble-shooting routines (trashing prefs by keeping command-alt-shift/ctrl-alt-shift pressed while starting Photoshop after making sure all customized presets like Actions, Patterns, Brushes etc. have been saved and making a note of the Preferences you’ve changed, 3rd party plug-ins deactivation, system maintenance, cleaning caches, font validation, etc.)?

  • Intel Wireless N-1030: Bluetooth slows down WiFi

I own a Dell L702x which has the Intel Wireless N-1030 which is a combined Wi-Fi & Bluetooth device. Today, I connected a Bluetooth speaker to the laptop, which worked wonderfully, although the Wi-Fi was slowing down when the laptop was transmitting to the speaker (i.e. when the speaker was playing music). I haven't used the Bluetooth adapter for ages, so I don't know if this problem is recent or not. Has any of you had already a similar problem with this particular adapter or any other?

  • Can the wireless card in my mac wear out and slow down internet connection??

can the wireless card in my mac wear out and slow down internet connection??

Yes the WiFi card can wear out but not what you would really call wearing out like a pair of pants do. It can start to fail causing the connection between your computer and your Wifi router to slow down, IE transmit and receive less data in a given time period. And then it will fail completely.
But as to your internet connection being affected by a failing WiFi card no that can't happen.
If you turn the WiFi off and connect the computer to your router with an Ethernet cable does your internet browsing and downloading speed increase? If it does then there may be something wrong with the WiFi card in your computer or the WiFi section of your router. Hard to say which.
If after connecting the computer to your router with an Ethernet cable and your speeds do not increase then it is a problem with the router or on your ISPs end.

What you describe sounds like a hardware issue. Unfortunately, you'll need to get that checked out by Apple. If you have an Apple Store near you, make an appointment with the Genius Bar and take the machine in for evaluation.
