HH3 Gateway Address Problem

Hi,
I have just had Infinity installed and have an issue with the BT homehub3.
The hub has an IP 192.168.1.254 however when it assigns an IP address to either my desktop or laptop using DHCP  it assigns the gateway address as 192.168.1.1 and consequently I can’t get an internet connection. If I set the IP and gateway manually it works fine.
Any ideas as to why it isn’t setting the correct gateway?

Does it work if you set the IP address manually e.g
IP Address          192.168.1.50
Subnet Mask       255.255.255.0
Default Gateway  192.168.1.254
DNS                   192.168.1.254
There is no advantage in using DHCP, unless your computer is used on other networks. Static addressing is quicker and more reliable.
If you need to use DHCP, then make sure the subnet mask is set to 255.255.255.0
There are a couple of DHCP pools within the home hub, one is reserved for the BT Openzone/FON VLAN connection.
There are some useful help pages here, for BT Broadband customers only, on my personal website.

  • RSV4000 DHCP Gateway address problem

I have an RSV4000 which I'm using as a gateway. I changed the default 192.168.1.0/24 network to 10.255.255.0/24 and configured the DHCP address pool to use 64 host addresses starting at 10.255.255.64
Every so often users on VLAN 1 get a gateway IP address of 192.168.1.1 even though they received a DHCP address of 10.255.255.64, 65, 66, etc.
I ran a packet capture and the RSV4000 is actually giving out the wrong gateway address.
I have to power cycle the RSV4000 and it works until some random point in time, then starts giving out the wrong gateway address again.
Is Cisco going to fix this?
    I'm running version 1.3.2.0 and I do not have the V4 model so I can't run v2.0.0.3

    Hey mdoldan,
Were you the one that upgraded the firmware of 1.3.2.0 on the router or did you receive it like that.
This is a very odd case, where it is giving out ip address on the default lan even though you changed it.
Have you tried reflashing the firmware, factory resetting the router and reloading the configurations back to it.
I would try that and see if the problem persist.

  • Time Capsule, DHCP not providing correct gateway address

I have gone back and forth between my AP Extreme and Time Capsule and have determined that Time Capsule is not providing the proper gateway address to my wireless clients. Instead of providing the correct gw address it provides the address I assigned the base station. This is contrary to my Airport Extreme which provides the proper gw address to my wireless clients. Sounds like a bug in the DHCP base station software. Any thoughts?

I have a very similar problem. I originally had cable broadband and a Airport Extreme (AE) upgraded to 7.3.1 all worked fine. The AE was being used as a DHCP server to distribute the dynamic IP address provided by the ISP. I then replaced the AE for a Time Capsule (TC) and installed a new 802.11n Airport Express. I upgraded the TC and AExpress to 7.3.1. The TC was setup identically to the now replaced (disconnected and switched off) AE.
Unfortunately the TC failed to work as a DHCP server. It did not recognize the ISP provided dynamic IP address and replaced it with an 'Invalid' IP address which of course meant no internet access. I then replaced the TC with the original AE (identically set up) and all worked fine, including the AExpress.
While I wait for Apple to fix the TC firmware I am running the AE as the DHCP Server and the TC as a wireless bridge to the AExpress. Time Machine is recognizing Time Capsule and backups from two macs are working fine.

  • Get IPv6 gateway address on Windows XP

    Hi guys,
Windows XP supports IPv6, but if I want to get the IPv6 gateway address linked to an adapter I've a big problem:
GetAdaptersInfo can get the gateway address but works only with IPv4
GetAdaptersAddresses works with IPv6 and can get the gateway address, but the related parameter FirstGatewayAddress of its structure ip_adapter_addresses was added only on Windows Vista and later
Win32_NetworkAdapterConfiguration WMI class can retrieve IPV6 gateway address but it is available only from Vista
    What can I do?

No simple way, basically, on XP+ use GetAdaptersAddresses, it adds ipv6.
XP has been end of support by MS, so maybe upgrading OS is a better way to promote things forward.

  • Gateway Address ???

I have an iMac which is connected via an AirPort router. I have no problems getting online. However, I am trying to connect a blu-ray player to the network and it asks for the Gateway Address. I can't find it anywhere. Can anyone help?

I believe it's the LAN address of your AirPort router, such as 10.0.1.1.

  • When they ask for the gateway address on the Tv what number is that or what number should I be looking for?

When they ask for the gateway numbers on the TV, what number is that or what should I be looking for? I am trying to connect my wifi network on my Samsung smart TV.

The "Gateway" address would be the Private (LAN-side) IP address of your Internet router. If you are using an AirPort base station for that router, the default gateway IP address would be: 10.0.1.1

I know how to get the IP address using InetAddress, but I have a few questions.
    1) Is is possible in Java to change the local PC's IP address?
    2) Is it possible and if so how do I obtain the local PC's Gateway IP address
    3) Is there a way of showing all the Network adapters within a PC?
This will be used on Windows XP operating system if ths makes any difference.
    Many Thanks

IP  192.168.0.4            ( this ip can obtain by get host address function )

    Hey Gerry -
To get the default gateway, you'll want to use the Win32 IP Helper API.  Unfortunately, this portion of the Win32 API is only available to users of the Full LabWindows/CVI package.
To retrive IPV4 information about your network adapters, you can use the function GetAdaptersInfo.  If you need IPV6 information, you'll need to use GetAdaptersAddresses.  I wrote a quick example of using GetAdaptersInfo and attached it, you can see the output below:

  • Problem using Gateway address

Having a little trouble setting up my macbook to connect to the work network. The way it is setup is that the wirless router I am trying to connect too requires the use of DHCP, but it also requires that you put in an IP Address for both the Gateway (Which I believe is refered to as Router in OS X) and the DNS Servers. While the DNS servers are not a problem, the Gateway(Router) Box is not available when configured to DHCP. Anyone know of a way to accomplish, both using DHCP and manually entering the IP of the Gateway?

Actually I got it working today with full manual mode. It seems that the IP Address that the router first assigned me with DHCP was not even in it's normal IP range. Don't know what was going on there. Thanks for the help though! Full manual mode did work

  • Fios quantum gateway router problem

Hello, when I connect my coaxial cable and power adaptor to my old verizon mi424wr router, the internet works fine. But when I connect my coxial cable and the power adapter that came with the fios quantum gateway router, the internet doesn't work. On the router, the internet icon keeps blinking white for about a minute, then it just becomes a solid non-blinking red internet icon. Assisstance would be greatly appreciated.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Your problem may be that you didn't release your WAN IP address before switching routers.  It's necessary to do so.
To release your IP address you could power off the new router, wait 2 hours, or overnight if that's more convenient, and then power the router back on.
Or to release the IP address more quickly, with the Actionec in place, follow the steps in this link:
    http://forums.verizon.com/t5/FiOS-Internet/How-am-I-able-to-change-my-ip-address/m-p/703336#M47733
After releasing your WAN IP, wait about 10 minutes and then fire up the Quantum router.  You should have a new WAN IP address and be connected back to the Internet.

  • Help debugging standard Gateway configuration problem

I've got a Mac Pro running Lion Server.
It connects to a fixed IP / direct connection to the Internet on Ethernet 1.
The machine, and the services it supports all have good access to the Internet.
It is configured to support a LAN from Ethernet 2.  Wifi connection is disabled.
I used the Gateway Assistant to set up, and:
Ethernet 2 is configured at 192.168.2.1, with DNS set manually to OpenDNS values.  These are the same values as used on Ethernet 1's fixed IP connection (which works fine).
NAT is set to IP Forwarding and Network Address Translation, External Interface is Ethernet 1, and Port Mapping Protocol is enabled.
DHCP is set to distribute values to en1 (which is Ethernet 2) in range 192.168.2.2 to 192.168.2.127.  DNS is set to 192.168.2.1.
The problem I have is, is that although client connections to Ethernet 2 set up pefectly, the connected machines have no connection to the internet: unable to see fqdns or ping IPs directly.
I must be doing something wrong... but can't see it.  Hopefully someone else can...
Thanks in advance for whatever help anyone can provide.

  • NVGRE Gateway Cluster Problem

    Hello
    We have following setup:
Management Hyper-V hosts running WAP, SPF and SCVMM 2012 R2 components
Gateway Hyper-V host: single node gateway hyper-v host, configured as a single node cluster to be able to join extra hardware in the future
this Hyper-V host runs 2 Windows Server Gateway VMs,configured as a failover cluster.
The following script is used to deploy these windows server gateway VMs as a high available NVGRE gateway service:
    http://www.hyper-v.nu/archives/mscholman/2015/01/hyper-v-nvgre-gateway-toolkit/
two tenant Hyper-V hosts running VMs which are using network virtualization
The setup is completed successfully and when creating a tenant in WAP and creating VM network for this tenant using NAT, the VMs of this tenant are accessible and can access Internet using the HA Gateway cluster.
The Gateway Hyper-V host and NVGRE Gateway VMs are running in a DMZ zone, in a DMZ Active Directory Domain.
Management and Tenant Hyper-V hosts, incl all Management VMs, are running in a dedicated internal Active Directory domain.
Problems start when we failover the Windows Server Gateway service to the other VM node of the NVGRE Gateway cluster. We see in the lookup records on the Gateway Hyper-V host that the MAC address of the gateway record for tenants is updated with the new
MAC address of the VM node running the gateway service.
But in SCVMM, apparently, this record is not updated. The tenant hosts still use the old MAC address of the other Gateway VM node.
When looking in the SCVMM database, we can also see that in the VMNetworkGateway table that the record representing the gateway of the tenant, still points to the MAC address of the PA network adapter of the other node of the NVGRE Gateway cluster, not to the
new node on which the gateway service is running after initiating a failover.
On the tenant hyper-v hosts, the lookup record for the gateway also points to the old node as well.
When manually changing the record in the VMNetworkGateway table to the new MAC address, and refreshing the tenant hosts in SCVMM, all starts working again and the tenant VMs can access the gateway again.
Anybody else facing this issue? Or is running a NVGRE Gateway cluster on a single Hyper-V node not supported?
To be complete, the deployed VMs running the gateway service are not configured as HA VMs.
    Regards
    Stijn

If i understand your post correctly you have a single Hyper-V Host running 2 GW VM's. I think the problem is that when you deploy a HA VM Gateway Cluster it wants to create a Cluster Resource (PA IP Address) on the Hyper-V host as well. So when you run 2
hyper-v hosts and 2 gw vm's and you move the active role to another host it will move the Provider Address to the other Hyper-V host as well. I believe this is by design. You should ask yourself also the question why running 2 vm's in a cluster on the same
    node ;-)
I would recommend to use 2 node Hyper-V Host Cluster (This is needed for the HA PA Address, And not necessary for your GW VM's )
Then run the deployment toolkit again. Now when that's done again, take a close look on how the Active node on the Hyper-V host has the corresponding PA assiogned on that Hyper-V host. Then do a failover, refresh the cluster manager and take notice
of the PA address that has moved along to the other Hyper-V host that is the active one. It is diffuclt to explain, in a couple of sentences but i hope you have the opportunity to build the 2nd Hyper-V host aswell and create a cluste.
Side note: if you want to keep the excising VM Gateway cluster. remove all gateways from VM Networks and remove the Gateway service from VMM. Then provision the second Hyper-V Host, Configure Cluster, Live migrate 1 GW VM node to it. Reconfigure
Shared VHDX for quorum and csv and  then add back the network service again. Don't try to leave it as a network service in VMM and move the VM to another node. It will not work when failover.
