HH4 - most simple use of 5GHz wireless / Sonos net...

I've got a Sonos audio device and have set up its network - https://sonos.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/126/kw/mesh
With the 5GHz setting too, that means in terms of networks on my devices I see:
[Home network name] - the 2.4GHz variant
[Home network name]5 - the 5GHz variant
[Sonos]
[BTWifi] (or sometimes [BTFON] I think)
From what I can gather, there's no way of stopping the last come up as a network to connect to (unless someone here can advise differently), but what is the optimal way to get my devices connecting?
My main machine is a Mac, and I'm also connecting a PS3, a couple of Windows 8 machines and a couple of Android phones.
To further compound things, I have a TP Link Repeater TL-WA901ND as the signal at the back of the house is really poor (HH4 is at the front).
What I *want* to get to is a set up where my allowed devices (obviously) will connect to the strongest and most appropriate connection point, rather than me having to specifically select them (in my office, for example, we have extenders all over the place and I don't need to change selection as I walk around). As I have to do this manually, I must be making some daft error - can anyone give me any pointers?
Thanks in advance!

Hi there. Sorry for delay in replying - my whole connection went down (unrelated) and the Openreach engineer has just been out to fix it!
I've been looking at this thread regarding extenders too - http://community.bt.com/t5/Other-BB-Queries/TP-Link-WA701ND-Universal-Repeater-and-HH/m-p/742770/hig...
It seems like in that instance the gateway IP was set to 0.0.0.0.
My current set up on the TL-WA901 is:
Universal repeater
Static IP (on the same subnet) of 192.168.2.10 (HH is 192.168.2.1)
Subnet mask - 255.255.255.0
Gateway 192.168.2.1
Channel 6 (same as HH, which is fixed on that channel)
Channel width 20MHz
DHCP off
MAC of AP is correct
Security is in WPA-PSK/ WPA2-PSK mode
Version - auto
Encryption - auto
PSK password - same as on my HH
And I have an ethernet cable connected that is also connected to the HH.
Have I missed something out or made a mistake? The gateway, for example?
Thanks!

How can I set up a guest access point with a Time Capsule and an Airport Extreme? I am using a Telus router with the Time Capsule used as a wireless access point (bridge mode). I don't want the guest access point to have access to my network.

The Guest Network function of the Time Capsule and AirPort Extreme cannot be enabled when the device is in Bridge Mode. Unfortunately, with another router...the Telus...upstream on your network, Bridge Mode is indicated as the correct setting for all other routers on the network.
If you can replace the Telus gateway with a simple modem (that performs no routing functions), you should be able to configure either the Time Capsule or the AirPort Extreme....whichever is connected to the modem....to provide a Guest Network.

  • Using AX as wireless router, how to set up w/ security and airtunes on XP

I previously had a Linksys wireless router. I just purchased an Airport express to use as the wireless router (and remove the Linksys router) as well as use the Airtunes functionality.
After some trial and error, I have been able to wireless connect my computer to the AX on it's own (the linksys router is now unplugged and out of the equation). I can connect to the internet fine on my PC (XP Pro SP2).
Trouble is, when I use the Network Setup Assistant, it shows the apple network listed, but it can't connect to it, no matter how many times I try, reboot my machine or reboot the AX. I've tried both the "setting up a new network" and "editing an existing network" option, and in each selection, after a few minutes of trying to connect to the network, I just get a failure message.
If I try and use the Admin utility, nothing shows up in the left-hand list window, and when I Press re-scan, still nothing shows (it doesn't even appear to scan).
I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong. I can't find simple instructions on how to set up the AX as the only wireless router for a PC and set up security and Airtunes (I'm assuming enabling airtunes is done in these applications, as I haven't seen anything about that yet either).
Any ideas on how this is done with a PC? Much thanks!

I have found the 'DHCP Reservations' option on the AirPort Extreme to be buggy.  I seem to remember it causing IP conflicts for some reason.  I think what I remember is that if the computer with the reservation was off, and the DHCP server then handed out that IP to another DHCP client, then there would be a conflict when the reserved IP computer was turned back on.  Maybe it was an issue in ealier versions of the AE or OS X as the case may be, and maybe it's been corrected, but I've never bothered using it agian since the method I describe below has always worked without fail.  Also, I'm guessing DHCP Reservations would work fine if one manually enters IPs outside of the DHCP range but in the AE 'DHCP Reservation Setup Assistant' the IP options provided are within the DHCP range which to me makes no sense and increases the potential for IP conflicts.
Here's what I do to setup a mixed environment of static and dynamic IPs on my network.  It works like a charm and does not require the DHCP server (beyond the distribution of dynamic IPs to hosts using DHCP).
For machines on my network that are accepting services from the public network, I set them up with static IPs using the 'Manually' option (System Preferences/Network/Ethernet/Configure IPv4).  The settings for 'Router' IP address and 'DNS Server' IP address should both be set with your gateway/router LAN IP).  Use an IP address below or above the DHCP range of adresses (in AE/Internet/DHCP/DHCP Beginning & Ending Address).
i.e. if my subnet is 10.0.1.1 and my DHCP range is 10.0.1.100 to 10.0.1.150, you could set the static IPs on your local hosts as 10.0.1.x where x = any number from 2 - 99 or from 151 - 200 as an example.
All other machines and devices that do not require static routing are setup as DHCP clients and get a dynamic IP from the AE.  To me it's a simpler setup though it might take a little extra time to setup initially.

  • IMac and Netgear DGND3300v2 on 5Ghz wireless n network problem

Hi guys, I'm can't seem to be able to connect my iMac (bought around Christmas 2010) to my Netgear router on 5Ghz wireless N properly.
Everytime I restarted the iMac, it will automatically connect to the 5Ghz network as I have set it up before. However, as soon as I start trying to use internet in any way, the connection just drops and all I can find then is my router on the 2.4Ghz network, running 802.11g.
I know the iMac can definitely connect to the wireless N network because I also have Windows 7 Ultimate on it. When I boot to Windows 7, the network works flawlessly. No connection dropping whatsoever.
Also my MacBook can connect to the 5Ghz with no problems. And it was bought in late 2008.
My iMac is running Mac OSX 10.6.7. In system profiler, the Airport tab has the following information:
    Software Versions:
      Network Preference: 6.2.1 (621.1)
      AirPort Utility: 5.5.2 (552.11)
      IO80211 Family: 3.1.4 (314.1.1)
    Interfaces:
    en1:
Card Type: AirPort Extreme (0x168C, 0x8F)
    firmware Version: Atheros 9280: 2.1.14.5
    Locale: APAC
Country Code: AL (shouldn't this be AU or something?)
    Supported PHY Modes: 802.11 a/b/g/n
    Supported Channels: 1 to 13
    Wake on wireless: supported
    Status: not associated
Local wireless networks: just a bunch of 802.11g and 802.11n running on 2.4Ghz in my building.
Any help will be appreciated, thanks in advance!

I've seen some threads saying changing the security on the wireless to WPA2-PSK will solve the problem, and I checked - my router is running using WPA2-PSK.

  • How can I tell if my MBP is 5GHz wireless compatible?

I am not able to get my MBP to see my new Airport Extreme Base Station (n) when the AEBS is in 5GHz wireless configuration. When I change the AEBS to 2.4GHz (802.11b/g compatible), the MBP sees it and connects with it. Could it be that my MBP does not have an Airport card that is 802.11n (5GHz) compatible?
    My Airport Card info is:
Wireless Card Type: AirPort Extreme (0x168C, 0x86)
    Wireless Card Firmware Version: 1.1.9.3

Does your MacBook Pro have the Intel Core 2 Duo processor? ... or just the Core Duo? If the later, you will not be able to enable your MBP for "n". However, third-party vendors, like QuickerTek do offer a "n" wireless upgrade option.
To verify your MBP's processor type, use the System Profiler utility and look at the value for Processor Name under Hardware Overview.

  • IPhone 5 still not working with 5GHz wireless frequency?

Even with the latest 6.0.2 update, for sure the iPhone 5 has some sort of bug that prevents it from streaming properly using the 5GHz frequency in dual-band routers.  I just got a brand new Netgear 600N wireless router (for home) and brand new Belkin 750 dual band (for work).  Both have 5GHz band frequency option, but on either one, the iPhone 5 hardly downloads, or at all.  It's as if a 14.4 K modem and molases had a baby.
Switching to 2.4GHz, and download speeds are normal relative to my service provider.
It's not the distance of the iPhone to the routers either, because they're literally an arm's length away when I'm testing it.
APPLE, what do you have to say about this?

Hi Tom from Jabra - One question - I got IPhone 5 do I NEED to spend the extra bucks on a HALO2 Apple version, or save the dollar for other accessories ?
In other words: Will the HALO2 (not the Apple version) work with Apple and non Apple devices?
In advance thanks for your time!

  • Having trouble with the most simple of things: Static IP

I am having trouble with the most simple of things: Static IP.
    I am working in Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1.
    "Control Panel\Network and Internet\Network and Sharing Center\Local Area Connections>Properties>Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4) and Internet Protocol Version 6 (TCP/IPv6)"
IPv4: I have went to "ipconfig /all" and found the "preferred" IP Address and the Default Gateway.
    Assign DNS Servers?
IPv6: I used "netsh interface ipv6 show address level=verbose" and found 3 usable IPv6 IPs.
Assign IP Address, Default Gateway and DNS Servers?

    What is the question?

  • 5GHz wireless unavailable since upgrading E2500 to Firmware 2.0

My 5GHz wireless is unavailable since upgrading E2500 to Firmware 2.0.  I did a complete reconfiguration of the router after upgrading.  Anyone one have any ideas on how to fix this?
    Ed

I carefully followed the steps suggested.  I did a 30 - 30 - 30 second hard reset of the router, reflashed the firmware, then did another 30 - 30 -30 second hard reset.  Then I carefully reconfigured the router manually.  Still no 5GHz radio.  I then called Cisco support and they took me through severaltests, configuration checks, and reconfiguration steps.  They agreed that the 5GHz radio was not working.  I will be sending it back for warranty repair/replacement.
I configured my Verizon cable router wireless so I could take the Cisco router out of service.  I don't have the dual radios or the guest channel.
I think I may buy a wireless AP that is rated for small business usage.  I'm not sure the "home user" wireless routers are sufficiently robust for what now is home use.
Thank you very much to everyone who responded with answers, advice, etc.  Much appreciated.

  • Most popular uses for ACS?

What do most companies use ACS for?
    Thank you!

    HI
You can use the ACS for multiple IOS devices like Swicthes, Routers, ASA.
You can use it for following setup:
    1.Wireless authentication like , Eap-tls/PEAP/EAP-FAST, using AP/WLC/WCS.
2.VPN authentication/Authorization  like ipsec/site to site using Radius protocol on ASA/VPN concentrator
    3. For admin Access of the Multiple devices like switches/Routers/ASA/WLC/IPS/IDS/WCS and multi vendor devices using Tacacs and Radius protocol.
    4. It is used for command authorization on the multiple devices using Tacacs protocol

  • Is it best to use the 5ghz option on the airport express

Is it best to use the 5ghz option on the airport express

It would depend on your networking requirements. If the highest bandwidth is desired, the 5 GHz band offers approximately 2-3x more than the 2.4 GHz band ... but for shorter distances. Also, due to signal characteristics, the higher frequencies have more difficulty passing through objects like walls. Thus I would only recommend 5 GHz for a single room.
Also, it will depend on the wireless clients that you need to support. Not all support operation on the 5 GHz band, especially for the 802.11n radio mode.

  • Slow 5GHz wireless running Yosemite.

I've upgraded to Yosemite on my mid 2012 MacBook Pro Retina 2.3 GHz i7 and when I'm connected to my wireless ap using 5GHz it is miserably slow. I'm seeing various ping times to my router (anywhere from 5 ms up to 300 ms) and the good old screen flicker is back since I'm not on 5GHz. The screen flicker went away when I was able to use 5GHz exclusively. When I switch to 2.4GHz my speed and ping times are consistently between 1ms and 2ms - even when downloading large files.
Apple - you broke my wireless!! Is anyone else experiencing this or better yet, has anyone solved this?

I think I will reply to myself as nobody seems to be helping here and I see someone else has the same fault as me
HH5 5ghz keeps dropping out. 2.4 ghz is stable.
I called up on Friday again. A supposed technical agent this agent then took remote control of my pC and merged the 2.4 and 5ghz signals back together depite my insistance that I want them seperate.
When I told him this, I got told that "if 2.4ghz is working, why would I want to use the 5ghz band?"
Is this acceptable customer support BT? Along with previous suggestions that I just "change channels when speeds drop" as if this was an acceptable solution?
I immediately asked for a supervisor and thankfully this guy was a bit more useful and split them back up. He changed the channel again (to 36 I think...I've lost track now having constantly changing from 36 to 40 to 44 them when speeds drop)
I told this supervisor that the speeds improved but it will drop again in 24/48 hours. I was promised a call back in 48 hours
Suprisingly just now I received my call back. After explaining the entire situation again, as well as explaining how a dual-band router works...(and I am no networking expert here!) They have acquiesed to my suggestion at the beginning and will be sending me a new home hub 5
The complete lack of knowledge by the agents is disgusting to be honest. Questioning what I say, telling me to ignore faults, the supposed advice given as stated above
And I must thanks for the complete lack of support and advice on here too. Does anybody in BT land have any technical knowledge at all. I'm seriously beginning to doubt it. I will update in a few days when my new hug arrives. Im not confident...

  • HT4628 I can not use the internal wireless card with my Mac pro 2012, I don't know if it is broken

I can not use the internal wireless card with my Mac pro 2012, I don't know if it is broken. The problem is happen recently, I have to use an independent wireless card now. Thanks!

When you enable Internet Sharing in OS X, you are creating a separate sub-net.
There is no option to allow this to be a simple pass-through from Ethernet to AirPort (or the other way).
The problem is easily solved by getting an inexpensive wireless router. You can replace your current router OR disable the DHCP server on the wireless router and allow the wireless clients to get an IP address from the current router.

I have a macbook pro. The wireless is always conected but it keeps stopping uring browsing for some minutes. However i am using teh same wireless on my iphone and it wok normaly without any stop or cut. Any help please?

I'm having the same issue. Different programs though, it's mostly browsers and adobe products. I thought maybe it was heat related but it's not. It seems that as soon as Lion was about to be released, the updates were updating in preparation for Lion. I delayed updating the software updates because Adobe (my career) isn't totally compatible with Lion yet. Before I even started getting update notifications, though, within the recent week, it's freezing up constantly. I don't know what to do. It seems to be happening with my brower choice, I'm using Firefox and Chrome as my main browsers. I keep alot of sessions open but that shouldn't cause (and has never caused) this constant freezing issue. I did install some extensions in Chrome and Firefox, maybe that's the problem... The issues began after those were installed though, 3 weeks to a month later... Maybe the software updates (that I installed thinking it would correct the freezing issue), maybe they are preventing other browsers ? Maybe Apple is getting rid of Chrome and Firefox ? I'm not having issues with Safari (yet) though I just opened it for the first time in 2 months... only because the macbook is freezing (and it's also rebooting while asleep, closing all of my projects and not saving them)...
My Macbook Pro is the same year and the HDD is a year new. The manufacture recall had the video whatever replaced a few months ago.
I've never had these kinds of problems with an Apple computer. I'm using Snow Leopard and I'm very attached to this laptop ! It's configured perfectly.
Why oh why does it freeze constantly within the recent 1-2 weeks ?
    Someone please help us !

  • Can you use a Epsom wireless printer to print from an iPad

Can you use an epson wireless printer to print from an iPaad

    Yes.
Certain models are air print compliant, check your manual.
If not I'm not sure if Epson  has an app, but there are third party printer apps such as Print n Share, Print Central and Printopia that should work for you (just to name the three most commonly recommended, there are plenty of apps so read the reviews and pick the one best for you)
