HH5 issues

So im on bt infinity 2 package.
got a HH5 and for the first few weeks it worked fine then suddenly started dropping wifi. bt tried the old refresh wifi channels twice and that didnt work so finally got sent a new HH5, sadly exactly the same type A one with same firmware. and the wifi dropping has started again. Stays connected for about 1 hour to 2 hours then drops for a minute and comes back.
heres the helpdesk info

does everything look ok? is it even worth getting another HH5 or just go straight for a third party router that supports infinity and bt tv?

The answer is here.

It's a pushed software update which has broken your router, as yet the only cure is to buy your own router which bt can't break remotely.

  • BT Infinity 2 - HH5 issues and not hitting speed? ...

    Hi, Thanks for reading!
I had BT Infinity installed mid April. My Wholesale Chart is below:
However due to a mix up I received a HH3 which was installed with separate OR Modem. My UL/DL at the time was 12MB/52MB.... nowhere near the speeds listed above.
When my HH5 did arrived I swapped over and yet saw no speed improvement.
My Current setup and speeds are shown below:
Do I need to get a DLM reset? You'll note that I have not had a consistent, longterm uptime. This isn't me "messing about" resetting Router etc.
Was the HH3 limiting me to 50MB and my IP Profile is fixed at that?
    Kind regards Neil.

Your IP profile is set to slightly less than the maximum speed the line can support. See link.
    http://bt.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/9760/~/what-is-my-broadband-'ip-profile'-and-why-is-i...
You would appear to have a Range B line which shows that your speeds are within the range for that line.

  • HH5 issuing wrong IP and DNS address

My Win7 desktop pc is connected via ethernet to a HH5 and worked until this morning when it wouldn't connect to the internet. Various restarts of pc and HH didn't work so I checked the properties of the pc network. It stated that the IP address was valid (192.168.1.65) but the DNS was 192.168.0.254 instead of 192.168.1.254. After I changed it it worked OK so I manually set it to the DNS values in the HH5 setup of 62.6.40.162.
All is working on my pc but now my win7 laptop is having the same problem when connected wirelessly to the HH. Also my Brother wireless printer wouldn't connect so I restarted it's network wizard which seemed to work until I checked the IP address and it's 192.168.0.104 so can't be seen by other devices.
However, assorted iPads and iPhones all seem to connect and get the correct IP and DNS addresses OK giving good internet access.
This only started this morning and as far as I know nothing has changed.
    What is going on ?
Oh and I have already tried a factory reset of the HH5 by sticking a pin in the reset hole.

Try disabling IPv6 on the Windows machines.
This suggestion by forum member  gg30340, should fix the problem.
    Select Start
In the Start Search field type ncpa.cpl and press the Enter key on your keyboard.
In the new window, right-click on your Wireless Network Connection and select Properties.
In the This connection uses the following items section, remove the tick beside (i.e. disable) Internet Protocol Version 6 (TCP/IPv6) and then press OK.
Left click on Internet Protocol IPV4, click on properties. Check the options to obtain IP address and DNS Server address automatically.

  • Yet another HH5 disconnect issue

I'm experiencing a lot of LCP termination requests and its very annoying to say the least !
I've read all the threads and the only solution appears to be to fork out on an aftermarket router, hardly a good start to my fibre experience !
I did PM a mod on here a couple of weeks ago but got no response.
Here are some stats for what it's worth, if anyone can shed some light on my issues it would be much appreciated but I fully expect to hear its the HH5 issue that's the cause, thanks in advance

Its not the best situation and I to was a little annoyed with all the hh5 issues.
However it did me a favour it the long run as those unlocked modems are great little things.
With out the HH5 having all the issues I would never of known about them. It was only through the good people on here they point me in the right direction!

  • Drop outs every few hours

    Hi all
hope someone can help as i am coming to the end of my tether with my BT Faster Broadband connection
it drops out every few hours and has done for almost 2 months.  i cant watch a movie or play a game without losing connection at least once, maybe twice if i am really unlucky.
i got a new hh5 a little while ago and was fine for a while. then the problems started - dropping 2 or 3 times a day.  contacted bt and they sent a replacement hh5. no change.  eventually in the last few days got worse and its now sometimes dropping at least a dozen times a day, rendering my connection little short of useless.
almost convinced it was a hh5 issue as they seemed to take an age to resynch, so bought an asus dsl-n66u and crossed my fingers.
soon enough, connection dropped again and again.
i have tried 3 different cables, between router and socket, removed the openreach faceplate and plugged a new filter  in to the test socket.  connected for around 4 hours and droped again.
Connection details from the Asus, with the filter in the master socket - the same as with the openreach filter (as you can see i lost connection again not so long ago.

The OR modem is a couple of years old, not sure of the exact model as it's mounted on the wall behind a piano.  Not used it since we have the HH5 or the Asus, but as i said earlier, the same happens with the OR modem plugged in to the WAN socket on the Asus and the HH5

  • HH5 & Infinity 2 Issue - Please Help

    Hi,
Ok i've had a morning of being passed from one department to the other online and on the phone, and nobody seems to be able to help. Have seen various posts on here suggesting there is an issue of people being stuck on the wrong IP profile when upgrading to HH5 etc.
I have been paying for Unlimited Infinity 2, which should give me 76Mbps, however, I'm only getting a max of 39Mbps.
Please can someone start the ball rolling, what sort of info can I copy and paste on here to see what the problem is?
As it happens, I'm now due to be leaving BT in about 10 days anyway, but want to see if I can try and get some money back for what seems to have been a well-documented problem.
    Many thanks in advance!

  • HH5 (Type A) - Drop-out issues now resolved? Still...

I have had a quick read about the forums - nothing conclusive on this one and as BT told us time and time again there wasn't a fault with the HH5 I don't suppose there will be an official post confirming a fix :-)
So, I had an HH3 with external VDSL modem - all was well. Upgraded to HH5 (Type A) and I had nothing but problems. Constant rebooting and my lovely 78/14 connection becamse 52/8 and wouldn't budge.
So I went back to the HH3, had an engineer visit and all was well once more.
Fast forward to yesterday. HH3 takes a nose dive. Don't believe it is PSU, but basically it switched off and won't come back on - it's looking rather broken.
So, I've still got my HH5 (Type A) in the draw and thought, well I do need fast broadband at home.
    So, to the questions.
Has the issue with the HH5 (which I had, many others had, BT said wasn't an issue etc.) now been fixed? I appreciate that I will have out of date firmware, however if I start to use it and I'm assuming the firmware will aitomatically update itself, will all the old dropped connection issues have gone away?
If not, is an acceptable option to use the HH5 togeother with my external VDSL modem? I remember this solving a lot of people's disconnection problems as it appeared to be an integrated modem issue in the HH5 and not using that seemed to solve all issues.
    Your advice greatly received.
    Thanks.

the firmware fix has for vast majority fixed the connection dropping problem of the hh5a  many chose to get modem and use that in conjunction with the hh5a and were happy with their choice as it stopped the conenction drops.  it also appeared to help connection in general
so you can try just leaving modem conencted and connect the hh5a to modem using hub wan port or you can conenct hub direct to master using the hub dsl socket

  • HH5 wifi speed fading issue - any resolution?

Having trawled the forum here, it does seem that there is a recurring techinical problem with wifi speeds slowing over a time period, or drop-outs, that require a re-boot to solve.
It is a wifi issue, not wired or line problems.
It still occurs having unsynced the 5 and 2.4Ghz and given them different SSIDs
    And Smart setup is off.
And automatic channel selection is off.
This does seem to be specific hardware issue with the HH5, and others before it.
Has anyone found a succesful route to either get it replaced or get it fixed?

I'm also a bit concerned that rebooting/reseting the modem may trigger some automatic speed reduction by BT, thinking it's a fault!  Wait, maybe that'll get their attention....!
no it won't - just result in a lower speed until the DLM sees line stable again and increases it which may be a few weeks

  • HH5 won't issue DHCP addresses to new devices

My HH5 has stopped issuing DHCP addresses to new wifi  devices. It not a problem on laptops etc, as manually entered addresses work but it's a no go for smartphones.  Existing wifi devices continue to work ok.
I've reset to factory settings twice with no luck but trying another router linked to my old white VDSL modem works fine.
    Anyone have any ideas?
    Thanks, Roger

This is not a large scale deployment.
If you want to test & see the difference you can create DHCP pool either on your DHCP server or WLC connected switch.
It does not make sense defining DHCP at different places if you have a proper DHCP server. (typically WLC DHCP use for guest services where WLC placed in a DMZ where no direct connection with other corporate services & from security perspective you do not won't to mix these traffic with your corporate traffic)

  • Ping/Latency Issues (BT Infinity 2 + HH5)

Since the 8th of December I have been getting random ping spikes from 20ms (normal) to 600ms (unusable) and it's making online game not possible.
Does anyone else have this issue and is there a fix?
I have tried power-cycling the hub (HH5) and sitting closer to the hub (wifi) and it makes no difference.
It happens on both WIRED and WIRELESS.

    Hi
Don't switch the hh5 on / off two often as this could make the connection worse.
Sounds like the  dlm  (the dreeded line managent) has already interleaved the line & added impluse noise protection that will cause the increase in ping / lantency & reduce speeds.
Personnally I raise another fault & see if the line checks come back with anything that might need an openreach visit.
    https://www.bt.com/consumerFaultTracking/public/faults/reporting.do?pageId=21
Also check if there is anything up locally with openreach's new checker tool.
    http://www.homeandwork.openreach.co.uk/problems-with-your-phone-or-broadband/search.aspx
If the test come back with no fault found, then possibly research using a openreach modem with the hh5 or get a 3rd party non-bt all-in-one.
Happy Xmax/ hoildays dispite the connection mischief.

  • Alternative to HH5? WiFi dropout issues.

    Hi everyone,
This is my first post on this Forum and hopefully someone can give me some advice regarding my Home Hub 5 and dropout issues.
I am on the BT Infinity 2 package and get pretty good speeds (I'm close to the cabinet), 60-70 Mbps seems to be the norm and sometimes higher but it does fluctuate.
However, I do suffer from dropouts using wifi and have heard that many people have replaced their HH5's because of this. What kit would I need to improve this situation and give me better stability. The present coverage in the house is good in terms of wifi signal, I just want something that ensures I am always connected on all of my devices around the house and getting the best possible speeds.
If I bought a new router does it still have to be connected to the HH5 (as the modem?) and will just be used for the wifi?
By the way, my HH5 is positioned in an open space fairly central in the house (not stuffed behind the settee!! ).

The TP Link TD W9980 is a direct replacement for the Homehub 5, although if you have BT TV as well, there's a bit more configuration required.

  • HH5 Flashing Red light issues

    hello,
experiencing strange issues with a BT Infinity 2 circuit at my property.
    Symptoms:
    * 3 days ago the original HH5 dropped the broadband connection - it changed to an orange light with flashing red broadband symbol. No dial tone when the RJ11 is plugged into the SSFP Infinity socket but dial tone returns as soon as RJ11 unplugged.
    * reported to BT and after typical troubleshooting they decided to send a replacement HH5 out
    * whilst waiting for this I borrowed a Draytek 2850 from work and decided to test on the circuit - bizarrely this was able to connect to BT Infinity (albeit at around 45581 Kbps instead of 75000 Kbps i was getting last week) and dial tone present on phone
    * replacement HH5 arrived today, plugged in and exactly the same symptoms as original HH5
any ideas what could be going on?
    thanks
    Michael

Does your phone work if just conencted to test socket with filter?  Try quiet line test. Dial 17070 option 2 should be quiet and best with corded phone

the problem with the HH5a was over a month ago and BT issued a 'fix'  sounds like you have been just fobbed off by CS
have you tried connecting to test socket with a filter?  does your phone work?

  • HH5/Infinity UPNP Issue

    Hi,
I know the HH5 has a non standard UPNP which makes UPNP unreliable. I havent checked for a while, has anything changed recently to improve this or are people still having issues?
I have some Naim Audio streamers which often say no server due to this issue and its really annoying
    Thanks

  • HH5 -- switch -- switch issue.

After days of trying to work out why the HH5 kept having all sorts of issues, I think I have found the cause. But I do not know why and I would be keen to hear if I am alone.
I have the HH5 next to master socket.
From here there is a run of ethernet to a switch under the stairs.
From this switch there are a couple of devices.
There is also a run through the house wall to the garage where there is another switch with a couple of devices.
Not a complicated or unusual setup - however, the 2nd level of switching seems to cause issues. When i wire either of the switches directly the HH5 all is fine. When I have the set up above the unit crashes, wireless drops, ethernet is sporadic.
This same network config worked with my netgear router from before.
Has anyone else had a similar issue?

I seem to remember some time back somebody with a similar issue with cascaded switches and multiple IP cameras. Can't for the life of me remember the eventual solution though. If you have the energy, you could trawl the board for the posts.
