HH5 with WiFi Extender??

Just thinking ..... rather than replace the HH5 with a non BT router to overcome the poor WiFi, has anyone tried / had any success with disabling the WiFi and using a WiFi extender plugged to one of the ethernet ports instead?

If you just want to provide an alternative wireless access point instead of using the HH5 wireless, and you are quite happy to just use the 2.4GHz band, then the TP-Link TL-WA710ND wireless access point will do the job. You just plug it into an Ethernet port of the HH5.
This page has the setup instructions, use the Access Point Mode. (AP)

  • ITunes homeshare will not activate with wifi extender

I have a wifi extender which has a different ssid. The problem is that it does not consider that connection as being pa of my home network where my mac is which has my iTunes library on it. This means that iTunes homeshare will not activate.
some reading talks about bridges but I don't know where/to configure such things.
The extender is a d-link power line wifi device.
    Thanks

  • Impossible to get access to my shared library with wifi extender

    Hi,
Due to a weak wifi signal provided by my internent box, I have bought a wifi extender (repeater). Now my signal is good in all my house but when I am connected to the extender I cannot get or a very difficult access to my Itunes library. The name of the wifi network are not the same. The wifi from my box is called XXXXX and the other is called XXXXX_EXT. I have no problem to access at my library with the wifi from my box. Unfortunately, my apple TV 2 is too far from my box and I need to use the extender.
Have you any idea to fix the problem ?
    Thanks

    Mikey,
As Labviewguru said, calling a LabVIEW DLL is no different than calling any other DLL from C. You will need your LabVIEW DLL, the .lib and .h files for your C code and the LabVIEW Run-Time Engine for the version of LabVIEW that the DLL was built with. Other than that, everything else is the same.

  • Problem using Apple TV with TP-Link Wifi Extender

    Hi,
I have been having problems connecting my Macbook Pro to my Apple TV via airplay and I believe it is due to the new wifi extender that I have installed in my home. Basically, the wifi extender uses the powerlines in the walls to extend the connection from my office at one end of the house, to my living room at the other. I am sitting here with my Macbook Pro in front of the TV using Apple TV, both connected to the same wifi SSID but still no option to mirror or extend my desktop onto the Apple TV. Can anyone help? Please? This is also affecting my Homesharing. It's as if the wifi extender is actually technically a second wifi network and my devices are getting confused and not finding each other.
    Joe

I have the same Activity set up for my Harmony One.  (First, I believe you mean "Devices," not "Components.")  You appear to have some of your buttons customized wrong for the Apple TV Activity, since you said other Activities work fine, like Watch TV, etc.  Within the Harmony software, go to the Activities (NOT Devices) tab, choose Watch Apple TV (or whatever you have named this activity), and then choose Customize Buttons.  Then click the Standard Buttons tab, and then go down the whole list (of dropdown menus) to assign, re-assign, or confirm that all the proper Commands are assigned to all the proper Devices.  For example, to correct your volume control issue, choose your Receiver to control the volume up and down Commands, etc.  If this is done correctly, you won't have to go to Devices (for the receiver) any more on your remote to control the volume. It will all be controlled within the remote's Activity function, as you've requested.  It has to work, since your other Activites are finding your receiver properly.  If not, then Logitech's Harmony support has been helpful to me in the past, assuming you're still in warranty, etc.  I hope this helps.  Good luck!

  • What WiFi extender is compatible with the MI424WR router?

My house is larger than the MI424WR router can service with wireless connectivity and I'm looking at adding a wifi extender, but want to be sure it will work with the Actiontec MI424WR router I have with FIOS. I'm thinking of the Linksys RE1000. Anybody know if that (or any other extender) would be compatible?
    Thanks.

You're not adding a "second line," you're just extending your LAN.
The key point to understand is that the primary router provides LAN access on three different media; wired Ethernet, WiFi and over the coax (using a system called MoCA).  Normally, the only coax clients on the LAN are set-top boxes.   However, the coax LAN is available to anything that plugs into coax.  Thus, all you need is a device that converts the coax LAN to something more useful, like Ethernet or WiFi.  This is called a "bridge," and is a different function than a router.
There are several devices that can be used to bridge coax MoCA to Ethernet and/or Wifi.  Actiontec routers can be run in bridge mode, and are suggested by many folks on these boards.

  • Can you help with why my Ipad, when streaming with Airplay, drops off my wifi extender?

Hi, I use a wifi extender to get better coverage down the back of my house. When close to my router, I use airplay  from my ipad on my regular network, streaming to my marantz sr5007. It works perfectly. When I'm in the backroom, I choose the extender network for my ipad (network.ext) to stream music using airplay. After a few minutes (normally 3 but it's been up to 20minutes), the music stops and the ipad shows it's back on it's own speaker. No music is playing. I can then choose the marantz again, the music will start. Two minutes later the same thing happens.
This only happens when on the SSID of the extender. Strangely, when I use itunes on my pc to stream music, and place it on the extender SSID, it's stable and keeps the connection to the marantz.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks very much. I'm going to contact Netgear when I get home to see if they've got any ideas.
I'll also try to use a static IP for the marantz. That seems to have helped a couple of people.
    Thanks again.

  • WiFi Sync with iOS 5 doesn't work with Airport Express used as a wifi extender?

So in our apartment we have an Airport base station that doesn't reach all the way to the bedrooms, so we use an Airport Express as a wifi extender/repeater. The Wifi sync doesn't work when connected to the Airport Express. My iPhone and iTunes can't find each other. But if I'm sitting next to the base station it works just fine. Is there a workaround for this to get wifi sync working in my bedroom? I've updated both Airports to the latest firmware versions.
    Thanks
    Byron

Well, never mind. It magically started working.

  • Can I use Airport Express as a Wifi Extender?

Forgive my ignorance, but I just swithed to all Apple products a few months ago and I have a question about the airport express.
We currently have one airport extreme base station set up in our house. The only problem is that the g signal for my iPhone won't reach quite far enough to get to the third floor (its a very long and tall home).
I was wondering if you can use the Airport express as a wifi extender with no cords plugged into it, similar to the linksys extenders you can buy that extend the signal range.

    LukeW, welcome to the discussions!
Yes, an AirPort Express could be used with your Extreme to "extend" the wireless network created by the Extreme. I assume here that you have an "n" capable Extreme.
If you have an older 'g" Extreme, the Express could be used to "participate in a WDS" (wireless distribution system), which is a similar setup.
It will probably take some experimenting to find the best position for the Express (you want it to receive as strong a signal as possible and "extend", so a good starting point would be to place the Express at a point that was roughly half way between the Extreme and the area that needs more wireless signal.

  • Hello, I have a problem with my iphone 4 battery, it looses 20% over the night with wifi on and without receiving any phone call or notification. It also uses 1 or 2% each time I check my iphone even if it is just to check up my messages. Is it normal?

Yes this is fairly normal. When you have wifi on the phone, it drains the battery life of the device.
Here is an article that has some tips that you can follow so you can modify the settings on your device to extend it's battery life to the fullest.

  • Why can't I use my mac as a WiFi extender if it is receiving it's internet connection via WiFi?

Now I'm not the most tech savvy person, but why is it I can't use my mac as a WiFi extender if it is getting its internet signal via WiFi? Would it mess up the original signal it's receiving?

You can do it.. but we do not recommend the use of a computer to do a task that a cheap router can handle better..
But what you need is a second wifi card. In a Mac there are a number of ways to achieve that.. without card slots .. USB wireless sticks that are Mac compatible is one way.
You set up the computer with ICS (internet connection sharing) just look it up.
You receive signal on whichever network you have .. Ethernet being hugely superior of course.. and then the computer can act as router/bridge to duplicate that connection via any other network connection it has.. on a Mac with thunderbolt.. you could use a second ethernet via adapter.. or wifi with USB stick etc.
However.. a cheap second hand Apple router will work far better doing the same wireless extend.. without requiring your computer to be on 24/7 for any other client to use.

  • WIFI Extender Issue

I have an internet extender for our WIFI and the light is blinking and I can't figure out what to do to update or deal with it??  This is driving me crazy.  I see it on the Utility menu that there is an issue but even when I plug it in in close proximity to the router i get nothing?  Do I need to hardwire it to update it?

Ok, thank you for providing the additional base station information.
Note: Your 2nd generation 802.11n AirPort Express base stations can only extend one of the Extreme's Wi-Fi networks. That is because, you have a 1st generation 802.11n AirPort Extreme, which can only operate on one of the radios (2.4 or 5 GHz) at a time. Most likely, the Express base stations will only be extending the 2.4 GHz radio. If you want both radios extended, you will have to upgrade your Extreme to a 3rd generation model or later that supports simultaneous dual-band operation.
    I would suggest the following:
Power-down all of your AirPort base stations.
Bring both extender (Express) base stations into the same room as the Extreme.
Perform a "factory default" reset on all of your AirPort base stations.
Temporarily plug both Express base stations into the available LAN (opposing arrows) ports of the Extreme. Do not plug either Express base station into power just yet.
Power-up the AirPort Extreme. Wait for it to initialize.
Verify that you can get Internet access from both wired and wireless clients connected to the Extreme.
Power-up one of the AirPort Express base stations.
Use the AirPort Utility to configure the Express to extend the Extreme.
Allow the Express to restart. Verify that you can still gain Internet access with the extended network.
Power-down the Express; place it at the desired location, and then, power-up the Express; allow it time to reinitialize.
Verify that both the Extreme and the Express have solid green status LEDs.
Power-up the second Express. Again use the linked procedure to configure it to extend the Extreme. Allow time for the Express to restart and initialize.
Verify that all three base stations have solid green status LEDs.
Power-down the second Express, and then, place it at the desired location.
Power-up the Express and allow it time to initialize.
Again, verify that all three base stations have a solid green status LED.
Finally, verify that you can gain Internet access from your extended network.

  • Wireless wifi extender. Airport express

I Am trying to use airport express as a wireless wifi extender. I can't get the hardware to connect to my existing wifi signal. What do I do. Obviously not a techie

Explain what you have as your current WiFi router.  Is it an Airport Extreme, Apple Time Capsule, or another Aiport Express?  If any of those, you should be able specify via Airport Utility on the added Airport Express:
Airport Utility -> Airport Express -> Wireless -> Network Mode: Extend a Wireless Network.
However, if your current WiFi router is from another manufacture, then I would suggest running an Ethernet cable from the existing WiFi router to the Airport Express, then configure the Airport Express as:
Airport Utility -> Airport Express -> Network -> Router Mode -> Off (Bridged Mode)
Airport Utility -> Airport Express -> Wireless -> Network Mode -> Create a wireless network
Airport Utility -> Airport Express -> Wireless -> Network Mode -> Wireless Network Name -> <specify the same name as your existing WiFi router uses>
Airport Utility -> Airport Express -> Wireless -> Network Mode -> Wireless Security -> <same as used by existing WiFi router>
Airport Utility -> Airport Express -> Wireless -> Network Mode -> Wirelelss Password -> <same as used by existing WiFi router>
Airport Utility -> Airport Express -> Wireless -> Network Mode -> Wireless Options -> 2.4GHz Channel -> different from existing WiFi router by 5 channels (1,6,or 11 ideal)
Airport Utility -> Airport Express -> Wireless -> Network Mode -> Wirelss Opitons -> 5GHz Channel -> any different channel from existing WiFi router
This will create a roaming network using the same WiFI SSID and Password.  Since the Airport Express is in Bridge mode, both WiFi devices are on the same subnet as specified by the existing WiFi router, they both have the same WiFi SSID and password.  As your devices move around the house, they will automatically switch to the WiFi base base station with the strongest signal (or at least when the loose one signal, they will switch to the other base station and you will not loose your connection.  I actually use this setup in my home, except I use 2 Airport Extremes, but setting up a roaming network using Ethernet connecting the WiFi base stations will work with any mix of manufacture's devices.
If you cannot run Ethernet cable, you may be able to use a pair of PowerLine Adapters, that use your home electrical wiring as a substitute for ethernet cable.  the speeds are not as fast as Gigabit Ethernet, but generally more than acceptable for most WiFi base station speeds.

  • Is there any wifi extender for time capsule?

Is there any wifi extender compatible with time capsule ?

You use Airport Utility and configure the Time Capsule's Wireless to allow the network to be extended. It's a checkbox. Configure the Airport Express to Extend an existing network and provide the name of your network and the password to sign into your network. These would have already been configured in the Time Capsule.

  • Time capsule as wifi extender

I have set up my time capsule in wifi extender mode and now I have lost acess to my backup disk in time machine. Airport Utility can not find my time capsule. I am currently using Mac OS X v 10.6.8. Thanks for the help.

The Time Capsule can be used to extend the wireless network provided by another Apple (Express, Extreme, or Time Capsule) base station. What is the make & model of the wireless routers that he is using? Just to make sure I understand, his network configuration is such that he is extending one wireless router with another that is located in your part of the duplex ... correct?
