Hi-8 / VHS ARCHIVE Settings?

Hello -
I archived a Hi-8 tape into FCPX.
Now when I play back the footage, on the bottom of the frame, it looks like it's playing just a tiny bit of the next frame. This happens on the entire tape.
But when I play it back on the camcorder's LCD screen, it looks fine ... none of that stuff on the bottom is showing.
My setup:
- MBP-RD
- Canopus ADVC 110
- Sony TRV99 (Hi-8 Camcorder; no Firewire)
The TRV99 is connected to the ADVC 110 (via S-Video and RCA (audio only) cables) which is connected via FW to the MBP-RD (via a FW to TB adapter).
My questions are:
- Why is this happening and what is the cause of this?
- Is there a setting that I should be utilizing to help eliminate this?

Hi Tom -
Thanks for the reply and insight.
Here's the screen shots of what I'm referring to.
The first one is the entire frame.
The second one is just the bottom of the (same) frame.
1. ) Full frame screen shot:
2.) Bottom portion of the same screen shot above.

  • VHS (C) settings in Elements 11

    Hello
I have recently download a VHS (C) tape onto my PC with the free software that came with the hardware. The tape is saved as .mpg. There is a qualitative difference in the VHS tape when played via a VCR connected to my TV and the .mpg file when viewed through Windows Media Player. That is secondary, but the .mpg file was saved to the PC with the following settings:
MPEG2 format/codec with a resolution of 720x480 and an aspect ratio of 16.9. It is a UK camcorder tape so there are 25fps and a video bit rape of 8.0Mbps. The audio format has a MPA Codec and a audio sample rate of 48KHz. The audio channel is 2 and the bit rate is 192Kbps.
I attemped to emulate this in Elements 11 - that is the application I have bought - to see if I could obtain a similar quality. In Elements 11, I firstly went to File | New | Project and in 'Change Settings' I clicked on PAL (under Available Presets), the DV, then Standard 48KhZ (see _Settings screenshot).
I then added the movie. Then, to export it, I used the following settings (Settings4Elements screenshot).
The result, also an .mpg file and also played through Windows Media Player, is of a significantly lower quality. Most noticeable is that there are soldiers with trumpets (during a Disneyland parade) and, unlike the movie I can see when the VHS tape is played via a VCR connected to my TV, and unlike the finished movie from the free software that came with my VHS (C) tape hardware, I cannot hear the band AT ALL in the finished Elements 11 .mpg file. Moreover, the figures move a little like something out of the Keystone cops.
How may I improve the quality of the Elements 11 .mpg file, please?

    Steve,
Since a fair number of people have posted here about this same issue, would it be fair to say that Elements 11 is more geared to the demands of camcorder (whatever their guise) owners who use Elements 11 to capture and edit their work, as opposed to those who may have boxes of old VHS tapes stored somewhere and wish to burn them to DVD?
Not really. PrE works perfectly fine with digitized analog footage, BUT will only do so directly from an A-D Bridge, like the GrassValley/Canopus, hooked up to the computer via FireWire. When using many other digitizing devices and cards, thre can be issues, and usually with the software that they use. Before my Canopus, I had a high-end Turtle Beach card, but had to use it's software, since it was PCIe, and not FireWire. I always ended up with OOS of 12 Frames, even though that software could capture to DV-AVI Type II files - just a common problem with the software, that comes with most of those devices/cards.
With the Canopus units, one just basically plugs in the composite cables from the VCR deck, to the Canopus, and then use the FireWire to connect to the computer. The beauty of that arrangement is that one can then Capture directly into PrE. The only limitation is that one does not have Device Control, since the VCR deck is hooked up via its composite cables, which are one-way. With but a bit of practice, one will soon learn to hold the VCR remote in one hand, and the mouse in the other - start Capture with the mouse, then hit Play on the remote. You will get a few blank Frames, but those are easily Trimmed out of the Clips.
Good luck, and if John T. did not link to it above, please see this article: http://forums.adobe.com/message/3748554#3748554

    Hi
I 've a document library in sharepoint and I want the users to save files, change the filenamn.
BUT they should not have the possibility to delete the file.
How do I the settings/permissions for that?

    Hello,
It is true. When you change the file name then sharepoint consider it as new file and delete old file that's why you need delete right to change file name. Check this blog for more info:

  • VHS Archival

I have some VHS tapes that I would like to convert and store on my raid array. I have some old Hauppauge PVR-250's laying around that should do the job. Has anyone ever done this before? I know the video quality will be pretty poor, but probably no worse then hooking a VHS player to my TV. Does anyone have any experience with any USB based hardware? Lastly, what would you recommend as far as software? Something simple enough to do maybe a bit of editing if need be...
    Thanks in advance.

I haven't done this for a while but when I did I used a composite video connection from the VCR to my MSI TV@Anywhere card (composite video is less sharp than s-video, which actually makes for a better recording!), used transcode to capture the video as mjpeg and audio as ac3, edited the recording with avidemux (easy because each frame is captured in full), and then recoded the video to mpeg2, again with avidemux.
This is the script that I used to use for the capture.  I've no idea whether it still works.
    #!/bin/bash
    # Generate recording filename
    if [ -z "$1" ]; then
    TMPFILE="tmp-`date +%F-%X`-mjpeg.avi"

  • Outlook 2013 archiving doesn't work when cached mode is enabled

    Hi All,
I have a problem in Outlook 2013 which I've been able to replicate on two separate PCs, operating against two separate Exchange servers.  In both cases, archiving of old items does not work in Outlook 2013 when cached mode is enabled.  It works
fine if cached mode is switched off so I don't believe the problem is related to the archiving settings.
Has anyone else come across this?
    Thanks,

Based on my knowledge, Outlook auto archieve setting is stored in registry and only affects on local host.
If the AutoArchive doesn't work anymore, please refer to the follow article to troubleshoot the issue
    http://www.howto-outlook.com/faq/archivenotworking.htm
If we are talking about Microsoft Exchange Online Archiving, I think it would run fine when you in Exchange online mode as your expected.

  • Archive not working in outlook 2013

I am trying to setup an auto archive for a user. I have gone through the process of creating the .pst to use and is stored in his network drive. I have configured the autoarchive settings to archive anything older that 01/08/2010 and also ticked the archive
items marked as do not archive. everything looks correct and when I run the archive I can see it quickly goes through all the folders and it creates the subfolders within the archive but no emails are actually archived. There are over 86000 emails in his inbox
and they date back as afar as 2005 so there is 5 years worth of emails that should get moved according to auto archive settings.

    Hi,
Network Drive .pst is not suggested for Outlook since this may cause some possible issues. some reference can be found below:
Network Stored PST files ... don't do it!
    http://blogs.technet.com/b/askperf/archive/2007/01/21/network-stored-pst-files-don-t-do-it.aspx

Please configure a new archive with the .pst file on local, then check the result.

  • Archived PO

    Hi Seniors,
Regarding a PO , i cannot find who has deleted the line item 10 of the PO. This PO is archived and the Item Changes does not mention this operation who has done. Is this related to the fact that the PO is archived?
    1. Please confirm that archived PO s are not automatically set to status "deleted" at line item level
    2. Will archived PO do lose the information regarding history changes on item line level and header level ?
    regards,
    janamm
Edited by: JanaMM on May 14, 2010 8:57 AM

if a PO is archived then it is gone from the tables.
It is not possible to archive only 1 item of a PO. Only the complete PO can be archvied.
If a PO is archived, then the change records of the PO are archived as well in the very same moment and archiving object.
Arching program has a preprocessing step, this step analyses the PO item for archiving and will set deletion indicators to all PO items  that meet the archiving settings. Only when all items have this deletion indicator, then the PO can be archved with the write step of archiving.
Here I agree to the comment that it is not easy to distinguish between a manual deleted PO item, and a PO item that got the deletion indicator because of an archiving run.
So the answere to your 2 question are:
    1) not confirmed, archiving preprocess sets deletion indicator to PO items
2)No, even the change logs can be seen for an archived PO, as they are archived together
However, you will not find a change record for the deletion indicator set by the archiving run, as change records will only be written for manual changes.

  • Archive not workng on a particular mailbox

Hi all, im having the following issue. I migrated over 2000 mail accounts from Ex 2007 to 2013. set retention tags and archive.
Al works fine, but on a particular mailbox that has a size of 90 GB, the archive is set but the process only archived 12.4 KB of email.
I tried to force it by stopping archive on exchange, also the start-managedassistanfolder command, recreate the archive settings.
Is there anything else to try?
Could be also an issue regarding mailbox size?
    Regards.
    DR.M3rL4

    Hi,
Based on my knowledge, this issue may be related to the following two reasons.
    1. Item counts are too high to process.
    2. The managed folder assistant is not being given enough time to run.
To decrease the number of items that need to be processed, you can change the value of
Age limit for retention in retention policy tag.
For example, if you move items older than one year before, now please change to move items older than two years to check result.
To give MRM more time to complete its operations, you can use the following command.
    Set-MailboxServer <servername> -ManagedFolderWorkCycle
Hope this is helpful to you.

  • Outlook 2010 Pro Plus not showing Retention/Archive Policies only on Terminal Server

I have Office 2010 Pro Plus (Terminal Server License) installed on Remote Desktop Services 2008 R2 and running Outlook 2010 against Exchange 2010 SP1 with Enterprise CALS for all users.  If I run Outlook locally on a PC (not TS Client)
I have apply folder retention policies and archival policies no problem but if I open Outlook on Terminal Server I cannot.  Everything is greyed out.  This is the exact same version of Outlook, just different keys but I can't apply any policies for
    the Terminal Server users.
So, to clarify, on a regular PC, I can click an Outlook folder, click on the "Policies" button on the ribbon and have retention policies as well as Online Archive settings as I should but when I use the same version on Terminal Server
the Policies button is greyed out completely and cannot set.  I am NOT using auto-archive settings and not using PST files, only Online Archive.
    Thank you

  • No archive after refreshing

I cloned the production system and after cloning, I enabled archiving in the cloned system.
today to refresh the target system with that of the source system, copied all the datafiles and it is working fine..but not, in the refreshed cloned instance, archiving got disabled
automaticalli..it shows the archive destination.. but
    SQL> archive log list
Database log mode No Archive Mode
    Automatic archival Disabled
    any comments ?
    Yusuf

you need to re-enable archiving in the target database each time you
refresh the database tier.I agree. If you do not want to lose archiving settings, then hot backup should be your choice.

  • Archive sent mail - Where did it go?

    Using IMAP.
My mail server has a low mail quota, so I need to Archive frequently, but I use multiple devices so leave what I can on the server.
    My archive settings are :-
Copies and folders: message archives: Keep message archives in: other: inbox 'mymail' on: Archive (Local folder)
Copies and Folders: when sending messages: automatically place a copy in: sent folder on: 'mymail@mydomain' (My IMAP) - the default.
Copies and Folders: archive options: yearly
When I select the inbox (on IMAP server), some mails, and click "archive", the mails go where expected (eg, Archive/Mymail/year/ inbox 'mymail')
When I do the same for sent items (on IMAP server), the mail just disappears.
Where does it go? How do I get it back?

If you are lucky, you might be able to restore individual messages. To do it, open Mail and then, open the Time Machine application (in /Applications/Utilities). Then, choose the backup you want at the right and you will be able to select messages and restore them.
After restoring them, they will appear in "Recovered Messages" in the Mail sidebar, under "On my Mac"

I am getting below logs, please advice, how to resolve the issue.
    Thanks.
    I am using LMS 3.2.1

Yes you are right that we have restore from backup and since then this problem occurs. We have uninstall the CiscoWorks from c: drive and install it on e:drive, due to high disk utilization issue on c: drive.
    I have checked the
RME > Administration > Config Management > Archive Management > Archive settings and setting is already e: /CIS~1/files/rme/dcma,
Also from dbreade, by executing the sql "select * from Config_Device_Archive" in rmeng, I can see that some file location is C:drive and orther files location is E: drive, so I have run the below sql to correct it, although it executed correctly, by I can see that Config_Device_Archive table that still some devices location is c:, others is e: drive.
    update Config_Device_Archive set
    location=replace(location,'C:\\PROGRA~1\\CSCOpx','E:\\CAPCIS~1')
Please advice, that how to resolve this issue.

  • XI Message archival

    Hello all,
I am working on XI 3.0 support project.
This project was implemented around 1.5 years back.
Hence there are lots of messages present in the current XI System
My company now wants to follow an archival policy for these existing messages.
I already have information on how to archive the messages.
What I want to know is which is the best policy that should be followed to archive such huge amount of data.
Pls let me know as this input is very vital for our progress.
    Thanks and Regards

    Hi,
There are not many different ways to archive/delete (w.r.t to settings).
    This link has information http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04/helpdata/en/0e/80553b4d53273de10000000a114084/content.htm
links from above replies give step-by step approach.
    1) Based on business requirements, the archiving/ retention periods are set for the msgs/interfaces.
    2) You need to arrange storage space for the archived objects..possibly in a different server, that is when you reach a stage that you may not need these messages immediately. but you can always restore the file to right location in the XI/PI server & the msgs can be viewed from the "archived msg" option
    3) Under normal circumstances you cannot archive the old messages from the above settings (for your scenario). You need to configure the archive settings for Interfaces which you need to archive before they are run.
For old messages you need to perform additional tasks as described in the note 789352.
    4) This sap note has a lot of information - 872388

  • Where are the archived log?

I've set my server to archive mail logs every 7 days, but I cannot find where they are archived. I do not see anything other than the normal complement of log files in /var/log. Yes it has been more than a week. But where do they go and what are they called?

It appears that you're assuming rather more around the word "archive" than exists here.
The archives that you seek are (also) stored in the /var/log directory.
The log files use the extension .log, and the log archive files use extensions such as .bz2 or .gz, and the associated data compression schemes.
    The following shell command:
$ sudo find / -name ipfw -print
will show you all files with the substring ipfw in the filename. Which will show you a few files here and there on your disk that are related to the firewall, including the man pages, and the /var/log directory.
    But no secret archives.
Run some tests with the archive settings over a week or two, and watch what happens in the /var/log directory.
