Hi All,I have an iMac 24'' 2007 and my HDD has gone bad.

Hi everybody ... I am in desperate need of help,concerning the replacement drive! All I find on Amazon,for example,are SATA III drives,and my iMac,being quite old,has SATA I,I suppose?! My question is ... will my machine recognize the SATA III drive,once installed??? I know that the connectors are identical to all SATAs but,since the replacement procedure is quite complicated,I beg you to,at least,tell me if I have to do something prior to the replacement?
I've read somewhere that one should reduce the thoughput from 6 to 3 GB/sec,or something like that,whith some jumpers,but all that is alien to me!!!
I am pressed by work and deadlines,so I would appreciate immencely any feedback!!!

The reason I advise having this done by Apple service techs is if you open this iMac up and work on it yourself and you fail to get your iMac working again, you will not be able to bring to Apple, directly, any longer. They will not do the repairs or installations needed to your iMac. You will be forced to take it to a third party Apple authorized service center for repairs from now on if you attempt to do this drive replacement, yourself.
Tearing down and reassembling an iMac is not for a "newbie" or novice computer user/ upgrader.
iMacs do not have any easily serviceable or user upgradeable parts inside.
I have a lot of Mac upgrading experience and the newer flat style iMacs (and the much older eMacs) are about the only Macs I will not attempt to try and work on.
Too many screws and screw sizes. Too many really fiddly and fragile connections. Just too many variables of things that can either break or forget or hook up improperly. The 2005 and newer flat screen style generations of iMacs are just complicated and finicky puzzles to work on.

Hello, I have an iMac and an iPad 2. one of my kids have an iTouch and the other an iPhone 4S.
When their friends call, it shows up on my iPad 2 and the list of friends is the list of friends for my child
who has the iPhone 4S. To my knowledge, we all have to share an APPLE ID to share music and apps?...
So is that the problem....what happens if we have separate APPLE ID's....?
Even though we are an APple fam, I am still not sure how the whole thing works....

Actually you can have separate apple ID's for icloud and facetime but use the family one for purchases so you can share your apps, music..
Each owner opens up a Apple ID for only their device(s).. Log into icloud using new apple ID on each device for each person. Hit facetime in settings, and input your new apple id as facetime ID.. Done..
Now go to settings > store and make sure your family account is inputed there on all the devices so you can share your purcahsed music, apps, videos, etc....
I am sharing purcahses with my entire family but we all have separate icloud, facetime, apple ID etc.. Its imperative you have split Apple ID's for icloud otherwise all your phonebooks will mix and match.....
Also as far as iphone goes.. Iphone can be set up to use apple ID to call or phonenumber (by default) So if you facetime a number it will ring only on that phone, if you facetime an apple ID that is on the iphone it will ring on all devices associated with that apple ID

I have a 3rd generation IPod and the screen has gone completely blank. It is fully charged and will play music but I have no idea where anything is.

Oops - AppleTV1.
Unpower and restart it.
Check the HDMI cable.
Change the HDMI cable.
Use a different HDMI socket on the TV.
Try it on a different TV to be sure it's not your TV.
If not using HDMI try component out to the TV.
If you can boot to diagnostics menu (menu and down arrow for 6 secs) run diagnostics. You can also factory restore from there but that wipes it to shipping firmware (if version 1.0 it can be a faff to update it again) and removes all content ans settings so beware.
If all fails I suspect a failing logic board or GPU and it's probably not economical to repair even if Apple would offer you a repair which I doubt.

Everything papers to be archived, which I NEVER use, and when I try and move messages to where they should be, half of them get lost. This is in my shared gmail account for the rugby club.I haven't dared to look at my main sky account, or my own gmail account yet!

You can install OS X Mountain Lion. First, buy Snow Leopard > http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard Then, make a backup, insert the DVD and upgrade. Finally, go to  > Software Update and install the most recent version.

Can I fix this high fan speed?

Open Activity Monitor in the Utilities folder. Select All Processes from the Processes dropdown menu. Click twice on the CPU% column header to display in descending order. If you find a process using a large amount of CPU time, then select the process and click on the Quit icon in the toolbar. Click on the Force Quit button to kill the process. See if that helps. Be sure to note the name of the runaway process so you can track down the cause of the problem.
If the above doesn't help then create a new user account. Log into the new account. Does this fix the problem?

I would do a transfer of purchases from the phone and not sync. If you sync then it will want to start over and sync music that is on the MacBook Pro. If you want to transfer the music, check out the article below that will give you multiple options on how to move. I have also provided on how to sync with multiple computers.

I spent hours building a photo album for my parents only to find out that because my mac is earlier than 2007, even though I have 10.6.8, I can no longer order?! What is with that? This makes no sense. I can go online to various "photo shop" place and regardless of the OS and computer I am working from I can order a photo album so why can I no longer do this through iPhoto on my MAC?
How do I order my album now? If somebody could please explain as I am going home in 1 month and really wanted to surprise my aging parents with this book.

Welcome to the Apple Community.
Thats not possible I'm afraid, only the Apple TV can receive an AirPlay stream, and even then only one at a time, unless you stream from a computer.

Other than put disc in you don't give much info about what you've done. With the install disc inserted restart your Mac while holding the C key, that should start it up from the install disc. Should also work fine with a wireless Apple keyboard.

Sorry, no idea at this point with so few details to go on. It will probably help if you'll post what version of Mac OS X you're running and who your email provider is. Someone then may have some ideas.
